Same but 12. My dad took me to see Jurasic Park and this within a few weeks if i remember right. Such an underrated film.
I was 19 when it came out, I was still blown away by it. It was one of those meta movies, before Wes Craven's New Nightmare, and even Scream obviously. The whole movie within a movie was handled so well, and Arnold and the kid just had great chemistry. Shame AFAIK the kid only acted a little bit after this though.

I was around 9 at the time but grew up on a steady diet of Arnold movies. Always infuriated me how people didn't like it on release, it was amazing.
Arnold has his "I'll be back" catch-phrase. Yours is "Shut the f*** up." Every time you drop it, it's right on point. Love the channel.

Music Enthusiast Fact: Big Gun (1993) by AC/DC was specifically written for this movie after Arnold Schwarzenegger personally approached the group and asked them to write a song for it.
Casting Notes Fact: Art Carney's final movie appearance. "I'm outta here" were favorite second cousin Frank's last words. Prophetically, those were in fact the last words Art Carney spoke on-screen, as he retired. Charles Dance said in interviews that, after being told that he had won a part turned down by Alan Rickman because of the salary, he wore a t-shirt on set which read: "I'm cheaper than Alan Rickman!"
Cameos Cameos Fact: When Danny Madigan (Austin O'Brien) and Jack Slater (Arnold Schwarzenegger) arrive at LAPD headquarters, Sharon Stone and Robert Patrick appear outside the front door as Catherine Tramell (from Basic Instinct (1992)) and the T-1000 (from Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)), respectively. Sir Ian McKellen played Death, a character out of Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal (1957). In that movie, Death was played by Bengt Ekerot. Tina Turner is the mayor. Jim Belushi, Chevy Chase, Chris Connelly, Karen Duffy, Leeza Gibbons, M.C. Hammer, Little Richard, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Melvin Van Peebles, Damon Wayans, and Maria Shriver are just the few people that I could identify that appear as themselves.
I saw this in the theater when it came out, i was 13. It's a great movie. It definitely had the misfortune of coming out at the same time as Jurassic Park. It was ahead of its time, and most people didn't understand it. I think people went in thinking it was the usual serious action movie. It was directed by John McTiernan (Die Hard). Great reaction as always.

The cat who you thought was Joe Peschi is Danny Devito. Great choice in movies man! This one bombed at the box office but totally underrated. Plus the soundtrack! Megadeth Angry again.

The screaming police chief was played by Frank McRae. Off the top of my head he was the teacher in the beginning of he original Red Dawn movie, the quiet boxer guy in Batteries Not Included, Rocky 2, 48hrs, and before his movie carreer he played for the Chicago Bears (Da Bears).

This was so much fun! JL kills us every damn time! "The other ticket" part had us rolling! Robert was a ticket taker for many years and still doesn't know what that damn podium is technically called.

I love this movie so much. It bombed at the theater in 1993 but I don't think audiences got the joke. Loved seeing that Arnorld didn't take himself seriously and wasn't afraid to poke fun at the action movie genre. Great film.
I'd say the reason it bombed was just pure bad timing with Jurassic Park released at the same time.
I f***in love this movie, it’s so cheesy but fun. I guess cause it’s a movie inside of a movie. Meredith who plays jacks daughter inside the movie is actually the same actress who plays Sonya in the first Mortal Kombat film from the 90’s.

Charles Dance is unforgettable as a villain. I watched this when it came out when I was a kid. I loved his lines. I constantly watched this movie.

I love this movie. It flopped hard and was not well-received when it first came out. It was poorly marketed, advertised as an action movie rather than a parody of action movies. Once you accept that it is parodying action movies in the same way that The Naked Gun parodies police shows, then it is great fun. I also love its subtle ode to the importance of escapist action movies, the kind of movies I have always loved from the time I was a kid like Danny. Notice how Danny's real life sucks. He has no power whatsoever to change his shitty lot in life. That's why movies are so important to him. Movies are an escape. And through a character like Slater, who does have power over oppositional forces in his world, Danny is able to experience through the movies what he can't experience in real life. Having Slater as a kind of father figure, a father figure that he lacks in real life, gives Danny the confidence to face the world and to be heroic even in his limited circumstances. Movies (and stories more generally) are powerful. Anyone who has a low opinion of the kind of escapist action movies that Arnold stars in should think about the Danny Mattigans of the world who need what these movies provide.

an amazing movie that I see way too many people give underhanded praise to. it’s rarely ever “it’s a great action comedy with great writing” and mostly “I knows it’s a dumb satire but I like it” or some variation of that.

In a sequel, the new villain could carry out Benedict's plan of recruiting famous movie villains (King Kong, Freddy Kruger, Hannibal Lector, etc.) and siccing them on Slater. We have already seen IP mashup movies, like Ready Player One, but a sequel to Last Action Hero could go all out with the meta-movie-madness.
This film just turns us all into kids while watching it. Reality suspended for some great action, humour, fun and crazy one liners "No sequel for you!" 👏
This is by far the best multiverse movie! And that guy with the axe is still one of the freakiest mother scratchers ive ever seen!

The cat is Danny Devito.
As weird as it may seem, Death telling Danny that he dies a grandfather would be incredibly liberating. Because he could live the rest of his life without fear, knowing that no matter what happens to him up until the point he becomes a grandfather, he’d live through it.
Not really given Jack wasn't on Death's list but was still dying till Danny's actions changed that. So while he might be on the list he can still change his fate for the worse.

This was the movie that explained Plot Armor to me as a kid.
The concept of a fictional hero/cop being transported into the real world has a lot of comedic potential. It's a shame they only explored that for they last bit of the movie.

Such a fun concept for a movie especially for the period of time it released. Watched it all the time when I was a kid. They could do a sequel or reboot and go all out with the different movies and large cast
Arnold and McTiernan wanted to do a sequel for a while, but eventually Arnold became Governor and after McTiernan had legal trouble and was in prison for like 8 years I think and only recently started directing again (around 2018 or so I think) and now any hope of a sequel is long gone I'm afraid. Unless they "reboot" it with someone else starring and directing.
I never saw this until my hubby. Thought it looked dumb. It is cute and clever and funny and I loooooove the dog scene lol

31:49... If you watch that scene where he is talking directly into the camera to us you can see the camera crew reflected on the glass. This wasn't an error but a realization that he can now see the crew.

I think what the audience forgets is these action movie characters have at least a bit of superstrength. The Ripper's axe-toss was scary as hell. Maybe Jack electrocuted him because he had the skill advantage for close-quarters combat?

I wonder if that was written into the script like that or if Anthony Quinn (the guy playing Tony Vivadi) improvised that one & they decided to just keep it in the film?
