Stephen King was so impressed with Kathy Bates performance that he wrote Dolores Claiborne specifically for her to play the title role some day. Didn't take long for that to happen.
I absolutely love her in that movie!
Kathy bates. Great actress
Dolores Claiborne is always in my Top 10 fave movies list. Stellar performance, stellar script, stellar cinematography, directing, everything.
really ???
Breas😊❤
"Kathy Bates is not supposed to be this way." Indeed. What I love about this horror film is that it's so real. No aliens, no supernatural, just pure humanity at its finest.
“…and that’s why you don’t drive a Mustang in the snow.” Absolutely god damn right.
Facts.
Kathy bates actually won a golden globe for this performance. And during her acceptance speech she apologized to James Caan about his ankles.
That’s amazing lol
She took home the Oscar too
I love when your dog sits up like a squirrel. It is so damn cute.
Lol it’s one of my favorite things he do
Should I do my trick again papa? The people want to see me do my trick.
@@codybrown3326 He's a natural performer. lol. That was really cute.
My favorite little terrier boy used to do this all the time for tummy rubs. We called it Prairie-Dogging. RIP Preston
I love when he does too so cute
Anthony Hopkins said in an interview when discussing his role as Hannibal Lecter that the best portrayal of a mad person he'd ever seen was from Kathy Bates in Misery.
I swear to god, that dog….is the sweetest little confection ever!!!!😍😍😍
DUDE ! You freaked your poor dog out !! When she broke his ankles your dog never took his eyes off of you after that !!! That boy got some real love for you !!!!!
Check out their reaction to his reaction to The Mist if you haven’t.
This is nothing as far as them being concerned about him. LoL
@@EOMReacts tremendous thanks !! I love freak out reactions !!!! I like when the ladies freak too but the emotional ones are my favorite !!! Ashleigh Burton has them all beat there !!! She went off the deep end watching " mask " with cher !!! She even yelled at her cat !!!!!!!!
@@circletrack7538 Check out Alien, Aliens, Silence of the Lambs, Misery, and The Mist for sure. All have multiple great jump scares.
@@EOMReacts thank you !!! That's a definite !!!
@@EOMReacts your a pretty funny guy !! You're also quite emotional !! Did you do Forest Gump or the Green mile yet !!! I'll jump all over that !! Can I make any movie suggestions to you??
JL's dogs trying to comfort him when he freaked out over the hobbling scene is just precious.
Kathy Bates, Anthony Hopkins and Jack Nicholson are the top tier when it comes to playing crazy extremely well. Personally, I find Hopkins more chilling because he plays it in a more calculated, diabolical manner. But for over the top, bat sh*t crazy lunatics you can't outshine Bates and Nicholson.
Romulus and Drogo always make sure I’m okay. And I’m hoping to watch The Shining sometime soon bc I heard Jack Nicholson is great in it.
Shining is next month I believe. But it’s 100% happening.
@@J_EOMReacts The Shining is crazy fantastic! JN and Shelley Duvall are both insanely good in it. I've only watched it about 7 or 8 times, lol.
@@EOMReacts Romulus is gonna be busy comforting you during the Shining!
@Toodlescae I'd have to point out, you failed to mention Willem Dafoe
"I love how your eyes twinkle when you're going crazy." LOL
🤣🤣🤣
The freaking penguin to block your cussing is killing me😂😂🐧
The ending is pretty damn good! He is suffering from PTSD. It makes sense! The audience can connect with the protagonist.
In the original novel, the climax has Paul burn a stack of paper - but only the top sheet is from the book Annie had forced him to write. The rest of "Misery Returns" he'd safely hidden away, and he genuinely regarded it as the best book he'd ever written, due in large part because he was *literally* writing like his life depended on it.
If I remember right she also cut off his finger and put it in a birthday cake. Also, the hobbling scene is much different. I think she cuts his feet off with a hatchet and blowtorches his stumps to stop the bleeding. It's been like 20 years since I read the book but I remember it being much more disturbing than the movie
@@saltwatertaffybag the rat scene is straight nasty.
For probab;y a good reason, American women can be crazy
@@saltwatertaffybag I don't see the need to point out the differences between the movie and the book. The hobbling seen had a much more visceral feel to it in the movie.
@@SurvivorBriI don’t think mentioning differences is the same as comparing, different mediums require different provocations of the audience.
"Crazy don't die easy" You are the most fun reactor going. Love the dogs though the poor dog when you reacted to the hobbling. He was worried about you
I tell everyone this, but his reaction to The Mist is peak “dogs checking on owner”.
I greatly appreciate that comment. Stuff like that means the world to me. And they good boys, they always check on me like that.
“You just can’t out-plan crazy.”
Great stuff.
Scientific fact lol
FACTS! 😂😅🥲
She won the Academy Award for this and she presented Anthony Hopkins with his award for playing Hannibal Lector, the next year. Two of my favorite villains together.
This is why Kathy Bates is unbelievably amazing!
I was waiting for THAT scene and your reaction, and did not dissapoint . Thank you.
Lol I’m glad you enjoyed the video
27:55
Same here.
Apart from the fact that she whammed both feet. :)
Yeh I was waiting for that too, you totally freaked out, and your dog was adorable, like asking you "bro...you ok man?"
It's easy to see how Kathy Bates got her Academy Award for best female leading role!
She killed this part. Amazing
When you reference Sheldon's ankles early in the movie I thought "Oh, just you wait!" LOL.
"Paul, do you know about the early days at the Kimberly diamond mines? Do you know what they did to the Native workers who stole diamonds? Don't worry, they didn't kill them. That would be like junking your Mercedes just because it had a broken spring. No, if they caught them, they had to make sure they could go on working, but they also had to make sure they could never run away. The operation was called hobbling."
Fun Fact: In the novel, Annie cuts off Paul's foot to prevent him from escaping. Screenwriter William Goldman had stated that the reason he decided to adapt the book to film was because of this gruesome scene, and the effect it would have on the audience. However, Rob Reiner and Andrew Scheinman's script revision changed the method of torture to Paul getting his ankles broken with a sledgehammer. Goldman was opposed to the change until viewing the film.
Bonus Fact: James Caan and Kathy Bates clashed over their acting methods. Caan believed in as little rehearsal as possible. Bates, with her theater background, was used to practicing a lot. When she commented to Rob Reiner that Caan was not attempting to relate or listen to her, Reiner told her to use that frustration toward her character.
These facts have been brought to you by Gator
JL ...I love your "Crazy Don't Die Easily" line. That's so true. It would make a great t-shirt quote.
There is only a handful of King books i havnt read and unfortunately this is one....so ty for the foot amputation info...the sledgehammer in the movie is bad enough u remember everyone in the theatre screaming couldn't imagine removing a foot lol
Loved these fun facts! This stuff is right up my alley!
Kathy Bates was also looking forward to killing the sheriff with a lawnmower like in the book, and was kind of disappointed when the scene was changed for a more conventional shotgun.
Kathy Bates is an awesome actress & lady! When she won the Oscar for this role, she apologized for what she did to James Caan's legs during her acceptance speech.
Riding grimlock with a crown on fire and the 7 dwarves with machine guns is the best thing I have ever heard!! Your funny as hell! 😂😂😂
"We are learning to walk tonight!" 😂😂😂😂😂
"time to learn to walk. I'd be up and walking TODAY" lol so good. Really enjoyed this and looking forward to more!
I would’ve been up walking like I never had a accident lol. I’m glad you enjoyed the video and I hope you enjoy the rest
Same here. No other movie reactor has ever made me laugh out loud like Extraordinarily Ordinary Media. Same comment about walking today.
@@evelynne2846 lol glad you enjoyed the video
9:09... "I would learn to walk today." 😅🤣😂😅🤣😂 ... and your adorable little dog (who looks very comfy in the blankets) trying to comfort you when Annie breaks his ankle... omg. Awesome reaction. Glad I found your channel.
Welcome to the family!
Lol I would have got up and started walking like nothing was wrong. If you think that’s cute you should see them comfort me at the end of The Mist reaction that’s posted on here. And we glad you found us too, welcome to the family
lol the dogs reaction at the hobble scene
We don’t deserve dogs lol
Love it that you used the penguin as your own censor
“I wrote out whole text messages and accidentally deleted them. I bet, Paul is hurt.” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He's not lying. LoL
I've always said since the first time I saw this many years ago.... Nobody in any movie has ever acted better than Kathy Bates in this movie.... Ever! Anyone!!
The part with the ankles turned my stomach the way the foot just wilted like a dead flower but at least your dog came over to comfort u aw!
He’s a good boy
Lol. That last Jump scare always gets me. Love that u used the penguin for the curse words on this one. Good shit as always!!
When you said crazy has jump scares, then screamed at the jump scare, I had to pause cause I was dying, lol that was great. I seen this at the movies when I was 18, packed full theater and when he hit her with the typewriter I jumped out of my seat and started screaming, get her, lol. Great reaction !!
The dog standing up had me laughing so hard at the beginning.
Lol he’s does that a lot
😂....that ankle scene gets everyone every time
And she had the nerve to say I love you after that 🤯
Now that you've seen Misery and The Princess Bride, next up on the Rob Reiner train is the classic "Rock-umentary", 'This is Spinal Tap'. One of the all-time great comedies!
I’ve heard of Spinal Tap and honestly I thought it was just a song
@@J_EOMReacts Oh, if it's songs you want, check this film out! Brilliantly cheeky humor!
Oh, it’s been on the list. My love for This is Spinal Tap has be pumped for him to see it. LoL
Mud flaps 😂😂
In the book, instead of breaking Paul's ankles, she chops off one of his feet with an axe to permanently maim him, after which she cauterizes it with a blowtorch. Can't forget the moment she cuts off his thumb too. She was truly psychotic.
“Til death” followed by me spewing out my coffee in laughter! The book is excellent. You’d enjoy it
🤣🤣🤣 I hope your coffee didn’t mess up anything
The hobbling scene..... "Ohhh ohh .. you gotta fucked up way of showing love .. not you, not you you're beautiful.. im talkin bout that crazy bitch..!... "
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol he looked at me like what did I do.
Never thought I'd laugh so much watching a review of this movie.
This was a great movie because real horror movies are not about gore, they're about suspenseful scenes where you're not really sure what's about to happen, and just when you think everything's going to be alright, something horrible happens.
I love when a movie can builds tension and actually have you worried
Hobbling, gets me every time.
Real horror movies are what makes you afraid and that is gore for some folk. For me the greatest horror films are ones where the protagonist are trapped, metaphorically. Impending doom that just creeps up on you, overtakes you and leaves you behind, unable to escape. I've seen plenty of suspenseful films that just waffled the ending and the protagonist wins or escapes. That doesn't scare me. I want to leave the cinema with the dread still in my bones.
The book was crazy with gore in that she cuts off his feet and thumb...pretty darn horrifying!
I was around 10 when I watched Fried Green Tomatoes and that was the first film I ever saw Kathy Bates in. Shortly after I saw Misery and was in shock that she could play such polar opposite roles. She definitely deserved the Oscar she won for this role. This is such a good movie! Love your reactions! 😊
I never knew Kathy had this side. I was shocked. Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed. I’m looking forward to watches fried green tomatoes too
I love Fried Green Tomatoes... One of my favorites
Watch Dolores Claiborne, it's another Stephen King novel. King wrote it with Kathy Bates in mind for the movie
For another great Stephen King movie with Kathy Bates, check out "Dolores Claiborne". And for another great 90s Rob Reiner movie I'd recommend "The American President"
Haku, I totally agree, Dolores Claiborne is another must see. Kathy B smashes it in that one too. She's just an outstanding actress, period.
I forgot about Dolores Claiborne
Another Rob Reiner movie is actually a Ron Howard movie. It's called " Ed T.V. ". " Meathead " is so true to life in this movie. " Hey! "
Kathy Bates plays crazy so convincingly it's haunting. Love this movie so much.
I told him when he discussed after he watched it, that’s “believable” crazy. And it’s terrifying.
@@EOMReacts almost makes her portrayal in American horror story that believable
what a good dog.
He really is a good boy.
That pup saw those nasty legs and bounced right under the covers...
🤣🤣🤣
LMAO @ "the jump scare" holler...you hit that high note lol
🤣🤣🤣 I was shook.
Fell in love with Cathy Bates as an actress because of this movie

What absolute fun it was to watch you react to one of my favorite movies. This type of horror is so freakin' scary because it could be goin' on right down the street from you! You and your previous fur babies were awesome!

You know, watching this now with you - hilarious as always - it suddenly dawns on me ... she's asking him to bring Misery back when her 'death' book was burnt up. She's reviving a character she refused him to publish. hmmmm = kiss the doggies Ms. Bates won an Oscar for that role and RIP James Caan.
I will definitely kiss them for you and she absolutely deserved that Oscar. Lol I didn’t know she had this side in her
No, the untitled book was not a misery book at all. It was completely unrelated. The mystery book where misery dies is "Miserys Child" which she bought at the store. Watch the movie again.
Thanks! This was fun. Your dog is watching every move you make. Love when he stood up and went under the blanket!

I loved your reaction to this movie. You had me rolling. I was in 10 grade in 1990, when this movie came out, and believe it or not, I actually saw this movie at the movie theater, lol.
Kathy Bates went on to win The Golden Globe for Best Actresses, for this role.
Lol I’m glad you enjoyed the video and she deserved that award. She crushed this part. If I seen this as a kid I would have never trusted a nurse in my life 🤣🤣
She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for it also.
Same. I was twenty-something when this came out - back in the day when there would be huge crowds at movies.
You turn every movie into a comedy! You are so funny so glad I found you.
Wish I could get a poster of Misery that says "from the director of A Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally..."
Don't know how expensive it would be to have an artist make one for you...
Great reaction!!! Your dog is so cute! So cute how it comforted you after that scene haha 💕
I’m glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for showing my baby some love
I would recommend _Dolores Claiborne_ shortly after this. Another Stephen King story with Kathy Bates in it. The movie came out shortly after _Misery_ . And it played with my prejudice Kathy as a "bat shit crazy" person. At least it did so when it came out in theaters.
Your plan to seduce Annie had me dying laughing 🤣 🤣🤣

We really don’t deserve dogs.
Fun facts: In Stephen King's book (Misery) there is no "hobbling" scene. Annie chops Paul's foot off with an ax. Also, she doesn't just shoot the sheriff... she stabs him to death and then runs over him with a lawnmower.
Puppy had to comfort you at the hobbling scene, that was precious.
That’s my baby
This was the movie that made Kathy Bates famous. She was relatively unknown before this and only had smaller roles in the 80’s. It was fun to see your reaction because you only knew the sweet Kathy Bates. It was just the opposite for me as I was surprised to learn she was so nice! 😉
Lol if somebody would have told me she was like this in movies I wouldn’t have believed them

I first heard of "Misery" in 1988 because of an Anthrax song called "Misery Loves Company". Had no idea it was about the Stephen King book, even though the band has written songs about books and movies in the past. When I saw "Misery", I put everything together that the song was based on the book. Good song if you're into metal!!
Bates is also great in "Delores Claiborne".. Good flick.
