Have the Solar in our kit, mostly the kids play. The Solars suck! Low volume and dull sound. Great if you hammer them like Thor, as that's the only way to get volume out of them. Currently looking for a better hi hat and this comparison for budget hats was helpful. It helped me realize that anything is better than Solar. Cheers
They all sound different in real life. Anyway Zildjian are the worst while for the other it's just about a matter of taste. I like the paiste 101 chocke and the polished meinl hcs.
@BlindShorty11 Agree, I have those too and they are very good beginner cymbals. I still actually have them with a paiste 2002 ride and an A custom 14" EFX! But do not get the 18" crash/ride, it kinda sucks. :P
Personally I find that the Planet Z hi hats are alright if you're playing in a group with friends, but alone they do sound a little bit too dull. Meinl HCS would be the better option I think.
the best closed hat is sabian while meinl and zildijan suk while meinl has the best simi open sound while zildijan suks paste has the best open, and pretty good closed, and semi open so i thing it's first paste, then sabian , then meinl then zildijan
@tordvillegas NO. I'm 8 months too and i've been using Paiste PST 5 since the day i started drumming. I recommend you to get PST 5. If your budget is low, get the Meinl HCS or Meinl MCS. Zildjian Planet Z sucks!

As an inexpensive entry to cymbals, the Meinl HCS is the way to go. They sound much better in person.

Paiste are the best, by far. I use Sabian (though HHX & AA) but the Solaris are soooo bad it's embarrassing, as are the Z's.

None of them are good, i have the Meinl HCs because it went with my kit, and it kinda suck. The HCS Crash really suck tho!
