Evade has been my favorite backpack this size for a long time. It has all the qualities I like, it self stands, has bottle pockets, luggage pass through, load lifters, nice harness. I even like the tapered shape, it’s one issue was it was heavy, and the new version fixed that.
Hi Danny, Thanks again for doing these videos. First, I'll start by saying that I've lived with a GR1 26L for about 8 years now and is my go-to travel personal item. It's got a great amount of space and just enough organization to make it work. Pros: nice clean bucket to toss stuff into. Clean design. Always fits under the seat. If want to stretch out a bit, I just put my feet under the bag so that the bad is touching the top of my shoes and not the top. Cons: Lack of organization or admin panel. I have a field pocket molle strapped to the top of the inside for any sort of quick access. The front slanted pocket becomes a giant black hole so I end up forgetting what I put in there. Same with the inside mesh pocket. I like that they updated it with a bit more organization. I'm in the market to get a new personal item backpack and I think it would be great to hear your opinions and suggestions for some of your top contenders for personal item backpacks. Right now, one of my top contenders is the Aer Travel Pack 3 Small since it has a lot of the organization I want (basically being able to access it quickly while I'm on the plane). I really don't like it when I have to slide my bag all the way out just to get inside to get my Nintendo Switch or my battery pack. The field pocket I have molle'd to the top of my bag also just drops stuff into the center of the bag like crazy since the zipper goes all the way down (granted my setup is 8 years old so the designs have gotten a lot friendlier). Either way, I'd love to know if the Aer TP3 Small fits under the seat comfortably. Thanks again for your videos!
Very timely as I have been trying to decide between these two for EDC, Travel and Hiking. Evade wins for me based on the water bottle pockets, load lifters, self standing, expansion capabilities with the included cord as well as the substantially cheaper price. I only wish it had as comprehensive a Warranty as GR.
Great comparison video between two awesome packs! Couldn't agree more on your point about the harnesses. If you put an Evade-style harness on a 26L GR2, 21L GR1, or one of the newer double-compartment Bullet Rucks, it'd be almost perfect & blow so many other packs out of the water.
@@dannypacks yeah they upgraded the matirials to 500d cordura and ripstop nylon for the inner lining and also changed the layout and the harness system
Id like to see you review the Dragonfly 36L and compare it to the GR3 35L to see capacity difference 🥹!!

I have Dragonfly 30L in Ultra 800TX which is basically smaller 36L. It is my favorite personal size travel bag as it is very lightweight, sits great on my bag if not too heavy, very spacious and easy to pack. However, it lacks organization for EDC.
Had both but the Goruck is the one I kept. Goruck Straps are way more comfortable with weight and the organization is better. The Evade’s front admin panel not nearly as good as previous bags and the bottom quick access pocket not really convenient to use and doesn’t have its own volume. Also the bungee if attached blocks use of pockets. Top handle on the Goruck is great while the Evade’s just seems like they’re trying to save money. The Evade feels closer to 30l in use so not really useful for edc.
Another great comparison! Evade wins this one for me but you can’t go wrong with either. Would love to see you review some bags from Inside Line Equipment one day
Thank you for watching! I haven’t had a chance to try it as a personal item just yet, I feel like I would be ok taking onto a delta or southwest but if it’s packed out it might start to get iffy on the more budget airlines
Having traveled with both GR2 and the new Evade 1.5 on Delta, AA, Southwest, and international with ANA, both bags packed out will fit just fine under the seats in Economy as carry-ons. The Evade in X42 is a little more rigid on the bottom (which lets it stand up on its own), so you'll just have to give it a little shove under the seats.
Have you noticed that the earth/orange color of the GR2 stains easily? I want to get either that or the black but I’m worried about the green getting dirty.
Thank you for watching! I haven’t had any issues yet with the earth color thankfully and the ripstop fabric feels like it wouldn’t be too bad to wipe down if something got on the bag

Thank you for watching and I’m glad the video was helpful! Definitely a tough choice between the two!
I got to say I love how you do comparison videos.
Thank you for watching and for the support! I’m glad the videos have been helpful!:)
Have both Evade in xpac and GR2 in dyneema. Both great bags. Evade is a larger EDC champ, while GR2 is more suitable for travel as personal item.
Thank you for watching and for sharing your experience with the bags! :)
Completely agree. Whenever I’m traveling I continue to reach for the gr2
Always the best comparisons !!! Great video m8

Thank you for watching! Would definitely be killer to see a Goruck bag with that type of harness!
I've also used the GR1 for years now and my back is always sweaty if it's hot out and I've got a hike from the airport to the hotel.
I also wish that it stood up on its own.
Hi man love your videos!
please do a comparison between the GR1 21l to the Nitecore bp23 pro
Thank you for watching and for the support! I wasn’t aware there was a pro version of the bp23 I’ll have to see if I can get one to test out!

I was looking for a gr2 ripstop review yester 😮 thanks 👍

Thank you for watching and for the support! Will have to make sure to add inside like equipment to the list of bag makers to check out!
Great comparison video Danny... I'm curious, have you been able to use the Evade as a personal item?

are there internal pockets on the sides of main compartment of the evade?
Almost 2x the price isn't just "paying a little bit more." It's A LOT more.
Evade is more functional. Goruck is better looking… Love the minimalist boxy shape, raw materials, and zipper pulls on the Goruck
Thank you for watching and good call outs!:)
