I'm so lucky that UA-cam recommended your video to me. You explained the challenges of holding the violin's bow for beginners like me perfectly. Thank you very much! Wishing you good health and a wonderful day! 🌻
Awww.. it is so nice to know that my video was helpful to you. You're most welcome dear Pals and I wish you lots of wonderful rewarding moments with your violin playing! Thank you very much also and happy practising!
Wow! You have cleared up for me many questions about bowing technique - especially how the thumb moves from tip to frog. I was under the impression with other violin videos on bowing that the thumb is to stay curved all the time - an impossible feat (for me at least). Thank you for clearing that up!
Hi Farsi, you're most welcome and I am very glad that my videos can be helpful to you. I wish you lots of wonderful practising! Warm greetings to you also from Canada
Hello, this is my first time here and I am a new subscriber. Thank you so much for this video. I will surely y practice what you showed in the video. I am just now starting out learning the violin as a seasoned adult. In fact, my very first lesson will begin at the beginning of Jan 2023. Thank You again :),
The final part is so important. Why do we want to enforce a German franco bowhold or a Russian bowhold? Transiting between both when it works best is quite logical
Excellant! Thank you. My biggest is index too far from 2nd. I'll work on curve index curve pinky. I'm using nylon around frog to lock 3rd finger to side of frog. I now place pad of 3rd on bottom edge of slide I have more leverage this way. You have made bow hold concrete clear now all I have to do is refer back to your vidio every couple days and I'm playing beautifully. I'm working on broadway hotel by al stewart thanks joy!😅
You're very welcome User-do5 and thank you also! I wish you much more positive and rewarding moments with your violin playing. Keep up the good work! Happy practising!
Luckily I'm (now) free from all these five :-) My big challenge at the moment is to find the suficcient amount of bow control with most possible relaxation, and being very fast in balancing these two... maybe a neverending story...
OMG! This is I am currently facing with. You are indeed totally life saviour. I almost want to give up on violin thinking that I dont have talent or skills. Yup, true indeed for the last tip. I thought I need to keep on the same grip position when nearing the tip during bowing. So, I been struggling to practice straight and long bow on open strings. Can you please show video solely on bowing and grip positions for open strings practice? I guess the way my wrist turning, bow grip holds and everything for open strings bowing is messed up. 😅 Thank you.

Hi Joy! Thank you for your video! I was going to ask you if it was normal that my pinky finger would hurt after a while of playing. Like it was over pressing or over supporting the entire bow. Then after shifting the support weight from there to the middle and 4th finger, the thumb would ache after a while. Turns out, as you said, weight shifting from index to other fingers was the cause. Thanks for your video! I’ll work on this more… I’m excited to see how it’ll improve. Please keep making more videos!
Thank you L H! Here is a video which might be helpful to you. I'll try to make a video about it too. Happy music making! ua-cam.com/video/WHiXx9EpdYU/v-deo.html
I started playing 2 weeks ago, so far just self teaching as my schedule doesn't work with the violin teacher in town. Sometimes I practice full bow strokes on open strings and struggle with going to the end of the tip even with the slight tilting you described. Maybe my arms are short, so I started to move the violin away as well. I noticed you are doing this too, but it maybe was only because you wanted us to see in the camera how your bow hold changes. Can You please let me know if this is correct to slightly move violin away to the left as I am bowing at the very tip of the bow? Thanks in advance! 🙂 ❤🎻
Dear Polery, welcome to the violin world! One needs to move the body and violin in a flexible way as the bow is also constantly moving. So moving the violin a bit to your left when playing near the tip of the bow is a good move. Happy violin playing!
Dear Daniel and Nickie, keeping both hands relaxed while controlling steady bows is certainly a hard task to master. I'll try to make a video about it. Meanwhile here is a video about general control of shaky bow. Happy practising! ua-cam.com/video/EAx8DrjVPAI/v-deo.html

My bow shakes when i bow down during shifting
Mine too. I was told it is caused by too much forefinger pressure.
@@nickiemcnichols5397 ya, because I using russian bow hold, the index finger I suppose is heavier
@@nickiemcnichols5397 I think the tricks here is pressure control , we release abit pressure during shifting at the same time left and right hand
