      Hi Tornado, Sometimes different mental and physical conditions of our body gives a different level of control, hence we play some times better than other times. Try to observe next time when you sound good and see what other conditions you are in ( other than the location), this way you will be able to pinpoint the mattering fact and reproduce the good performance at your command. I wish you lots of rewarding discoveries!

    So if you are playing something very soft, romantically and very slowly the best way is to tilt then? I was told that there isn’t a good bow that don’t bounce or shake and if you have a bow that don’t bounce it’s a bad bow, better to throw it and buy a better bow. Now! I good bow bounce very easily and it’s great when you play fast doing spicato I think that’s the name of it. Maby iam wrong, please correct me if i am. Thanks for sharing. Domo arigato.

    • @JoyLeeViolin
      @JoyLeeViolin  6 років тому +1

      A good bow should be able to play all types of strokes including very soft/ light and fast jumpy. I think you were referring to " sautille" bow stroke when you said fast spiccato. Happy practicing Jose!

      Certainly it's a move in that direction. After 12 months FB I switched to the hold she shows here, and my playing was immediately lots better in lots of ways, so I use it all the time now. As well as no bouncing bow, it is also kinder to my wrist when playing at the tip, and I have much better control overall. Pretty impossible to graunch a note too! There are some things that don't work so well for me - things that require lots of finger movement - but they don't concern me atm. 🙂

    I replaced my bow this summer so it's brand new and should be in top condition. I just noticed that there's a thin piece of food sticking out from where the hairs are connected to the bow (around where you hold it). I don't think my thumb touches the wood but it's right around where my thumb is placed when playing. I can't recall ever seeing this on my older bows. I don't know the words for the parts of the bow in English btw, sorry. It would be weird if I had to replace it just 3 months after getting it. I always make sure to slacken the bow hair when I finish practicing so I can't think of any reason for why this piece of wood would be sticking out? I'll check with my teacher as soon as I can but if anyone has any idea what's wrong (or if it's fine) please let me know xD

    Thank you sooo much for this. I've had this problem for so long and there aren't any other videos on it. One additional thing I noticed is that when I practice I only do so with a rubber mute which absorbs some of the vibration and when it's a performance I take out the mute, thinking it's the same and I know how to play it, but now there's a lot of extra vibration which causes it to shake more. Thanks again.
