Eating to Save Your Life: High-Risk Heart Disease | Dr. Neal Barnard Live Q&A
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 чер 2024
- The power of food is extraordinary. Every 33 seconds in the U.S. someone will die of cardiovascular disease, but you do not have to be a statistic.
For the first time, groundbreaking research is proving definitively that even patients who already have the disease, as well as those who are at high risk of developing it, can dramatically improve their heart health.
Dr. Neal Barnard discusses the analysis of nearly 2,000 patients and the effect that an infusion of nonanimal foods had on their cardiometabolic function.
The results point directly to the benefit of vegan and vegetarian diets to both prevent and, in many cases, reverse heart disease.
Topic Discussed
- How these findings differ from previous heart disease research
- Alcohol's effect on blood pressure
- Which foods are healthiest for the heart
- The effect of animal protein on heart function
- And more

I just started sharing videos on my youtube channel to share how our family of 4 has made this WFPB lifestyle for the past 14 years. We started on this path, in part, to keep my husband’s heart healthy. Keeping it simple is key for us.
Great idea !!! Keep it simple !!
ug, how White person? I was on the last heart attack diet for over 8 years since 2011 and lost 135 pounds and kept it off until too much stress with my wife's health and deteriorating condition 4 years ago. I started eating crackers and cheerios out of the box for the crunch. I gained 60 pounds in about 5 months and I just can't stay strict to vegan anymore because most of it is so disgusting and too difficult and time consuming that I don't have and not physically able to do now at my age. Is there a better meal plan than Dr. Esselstyne has?
Absolutely awesome. Dr Barnard you are an inspiration. Chuck you are a wonderful person too
Another informative video. Thanks Dr. B and Chuck for all you do!
thanks for being there - reaching out to us - to save our lives! Proud 1st commenter (unless someone beats me to it as I write).
As usual, great information ❤
I love hearing this podcast. It is so informative and reassuring that there really is hope for all of our chronic diseases. Thank you so much for all the hard work you do Dr Neal Barnard and team and especially Chuck Carroll for putting it out there so eloquently :)
There is a test called liproprotein (a) that people shoudl get. Unlike other lipids, Lp(a) levels are not significantly influenced by changes in diet and lifestyle. However healthy lifestyle changes can still be an important way to reduce your risk of heart disease. Early detection of elevated Lp(a) allows for proactive interventions to mitigate potential cardiovascular risks. Testing for Lp(a) can provide valuable insights and aid your healthcare provider in tailoring personalized treatment plans to reduce your risk of heart disease.
That was Excellent! Thank You!!
Wow I never realized my organic peanut butter had sugar and palm oil. I found one that does not on Amazon. The brand is Spread the Love. Thank you for the info.
We buy Adams brand (totally natural with only peanuts and salt) at Costco in Washington state. The oil and the crunchy peanuts rise to the top and I pour off the oil before mixing the peanuts in. LOVE this stuff, it's better than fresh-ground in my opinion!
@@annarebecca3384Adams's has a no added salt version as well. Been eating it for years but just found the one without salt today.
Smuckers only has salt and peanuts
There is peanut butter without salt available. Ingredients : Roasted peanutss. That's it. Added salt is not only unnecessary but harmful. So, easy these days, yet WFPB is way to go. Next level would be growing own peanuts and making own peanut butter. Stay healthy and keep up good work, friend.
Just a heads up that the standard PB2 powder product contains salt and sugar. You must look for its sister: PB2 Pure which is only defatted peanuts, no added salt or sugar. PB2 also makes a no added sugar/salt cashew powder too. They are pricey but a little goes a long way. Also, I think Responsible Medicine includes modeling behavior that keep our carbon footprint as low as possible. health and life itself requires a planet with clean air and water and temperatures surviveable long term. We are at a tipping point with climate change, polar ice is melting faster, the permafrost is melting and release methane, a much more potent greenhouse gas. Travel to a conference especially with Covid still circulating and disabling people with long Covid infections seems a poor decision. I would have attended a virtual conference, but could never justify in-person attendance.
Awesome video guys
Thank you both so much for everything you do 😇love the color of Chucks tie🙏
Great program. It would be very helpful if you would put links to the cited studies in the show notes.
Dr Neal looks great ❤
Have passed on to a friend who recently suffered a stroke. I told him it was a "stroke of luck" that it was only mild. He's done yo-yo dieting, including Keto as of late, and I have been warning him of the potential risks. Maybe he will now take the message to heart. (Pun intended.)
Jen, one of the wonderful benefits of a Whole Foods Plant Based diet is that we don't have to count calories EVER! I eat whatever I want (vegan) and my weight is stable at 129. It is so easy! Please take Dr Barnard's advice - "the weight loss is automatic"! Best to you!
Thank you
So glad I found you on UA-cam! This is awesome. My type one diabetic husband loves cheese and will never give it up. He says he will die a happy man. 😡I’m making oat milk to see if I can use it instead of my organic milk. Also making peanut butter in my vitamix. Slow steps. I can give up meat in a heartbeat. Need to learn to like beans. What a journey.
Buy soy milk, it is easier you can get it organic. It’s got more protein same amount of calories as skim milk with no oil. it’s really better for you and him.💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Thank you🎉🎉🎉🎉
I take a berberine supplement twice daily and am following a WFPB vegan diet. I’ve had wonderful success losing 40 lbs since February. I would like to know your thoughts on using berberine and can I continue to take it in the long term. Thank you! Vegan eating has changed my life for the better. 🙂love watching.
PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! Can you add a LINK for the JAMA article for the recent research findings? I'd love to have my meat eating doctor see it. THANK YOU.
Thank you Chuck great interview also Dr Barnard is a very brilliant doctor who have help many people include me l change to plant base since lam feel great. May God bless Dr Barnard you will live long.
Thanks
I LOVE THESE TWO💪🏻💪🏻❤️❤️
Me too 💕
Great info! It would be useful if you could include a link in the notes for the podcast to an abstract of the study mentioned. Thx!
Would you please add the link to the study that you are referring to in the description along with the other links to the conference and everything else, please? I'd like it for a presentation I am giving this weekend.c
Checked my ldl 18 days after going plant based. It went from 119 to 67

I'd love to see a link or at least the title of this meta-analysis.

unbiased truths........We aren;t discussing vegan diet . Vegan might eat everything but animal based including unhealthy foods. We are discussing a plant based diet which is absolutely healthy.
“The sequel to peanut butter. PB2” I cracked up when you said that!
Unfiltered coffee is one of the worst culprits for driving up cholesterol into the high ranges, even if you are on a healthy vegan diet.
I wonder why people don't talk about this more? I have friends from France who only drink coffee made from a French press and they are proud of it!
Good morning.
Whole food plant based. Work a job so brutally physically demanding I sweat for 8-10 hours a day. I'm over 45 and ripped. I'm in better shape than co-workers half my age.
I was fit before I went WFPB but NEVER like this. This diet makes you an absolute machine if you really follow it.
I had a personal conversation with Dr. T Colin Campbell about low HDLs. The purpose is to carry away the crap in your blood basically. If you eat a clean plant-based diet, meaning no oil or processed foods, you have very little crap in your blood, causing HDL levels to be low. ;-)
…. and most likely your body will be lacking substantially besides that matter you mentioned
@@bonsummers2657 yes lacking crap in your blood that makes you sick. So low HDL numbers in someone who eats a clean Whole Food plant-based diet is not surprising and it's likely that that person is very healthy- at least their cardiovascular system is
Specifically, lacking vital nutrition for excellent body integrity. People don't 'lack' crap, as you know, except satirically/scoffingly.@@optimaldietcoach1705
Librarians can help the public identify studies that are legitimate versus heavily-funded industry studies It's even difficult for us but looking at the things Dr. Barnard mentioned (the publication, the researchers, and who funded the study) is a good place to start.
And don't forget a reputable university or research clinic.
Don't live by you guys...how do I access the conference?
With plant-based eating and lifewave patches you don't have to get sick to die. That's my mantra 'You don't have to get sick to die'. Stay healthy and then when your time comes bid goodby.
My chest is tight when it gets cold, how can i be helped?
If you can’t post a link to the studies you’re discussing, then at least post the names of the studies so we can look for them ourselves. Thanks.
OMG! The lady working with the non-plant based weight loss coach… come chat to me! Happy to give you better guidance than eating dead food!
Eating dead bodies.
What about tachini? Thank you!! Greece.❤❤😊
Going back to IF and WFPB.
If there is a condition incompatible with the plantbased diet is ulcerative colitis. Now my inflammation is down, no steroids and I have only the immune suppressing medication but years of flare- ups that followed destroyed my gut so badly that nutrient absorbtion is heavily compromised. I am skinny, struggling to gain weight and while I eat nuts, seeds and avocados in reasonable amounts, it is not enough for weight gain. I still rely on animal fat though I eat the fiber rich diet by dr Will B. A healthy person would gain weight naturally over time. Not me. People turn towards the plantbased diet for weight loss. I turn away from it because I have the opposite problem. I can still be " plant- forward" and aim to be 80 percent plantbased that works for many UC patients. But when they go for 100 percent they encounter unwanted weight loss and deficiencies. UC patients in general are prone to weight loss not weight gain and it is suggested they keep their BMI on a higher ( but still normal) level so as to have reserves when flare-ups occur and do not drop beyond healthy weight. So yes, there ARE conditions when you have to consider if a WFPB diet is good for you. IBD patients often have difficulties eating the right amount of calories on a vegan diet as they may experience painful symptoms when eating and therefore need calorie rich food. A raw vegan diet is a counter indication for anybody having absorbtion problems. A junk vegan diet is just as likely to cause flare- ups as the standard american meatbased diets ( I still like to have a vegan burger once a month as a treat). I am not in pain anymore and can eat full plates of food but lets be honest, I will not gain any weight from the big plate of bulgur salad I ate for lunch today as it is only 300kcal. Even with avocado toast for breakfast and my half cup of pumpkin seeds for snack I just cannot make it to reach and maintain healthy weight and not be undernourished. I have to throw in an egg a day, bites of cheese and at least one or two hearty meaty meals per week ( plus fish) to meet my needs. Everybody can be 80-90 % plantbased but not everybody is thriving by cutting out all animal foods. I still think that plant- forward is the way forward and do not advocate meatbased diets ( I also went for unprocessed foods). I will never be a vegan but my diet works for me.
I have crohns and the doctors who are pushing WFPB have left those of us with bowel issues out of the loop...We are therefore forced to eat some meat and fish..Of course eliminate processed food
Fiber fills me up easily & one of the greatest benefits to WPBF is I never have that horrible feeling of having a high blood sugar.
I haven’t watched yet, but Dr. Caldwel B Esselstyn Jr told us this in the 1980s
Dr Benard what about the association with soy and fibroids. And making the fibroids grow. Would you please explain for all women
Stay away from soy.
Can you talk a bit about fasting in regards to improve your lipids?
What is the matching donation web address?
I am whole food plant-based for five years now SOS free, this way of eating does not lower everyone’s cholesterol. I’ve been tested many times over these five years and it stays in a 233+ range and I do take a low-dose statin to help keep it low.
Did you get tested for lipoprotein a which is hereditary?
Do you eat high carbs?
I heard so many times , it is not cholesterol that causes heart disease , body need cholesterol for many function like to make vitamin D . Just keep weight in normal and blood pressure under control , walk 30 minutes a day , stress manage . If diabetic keep under control . These are main things.
Hi how to lower triglycerides level without medication?
Listen to them! They are absolutely right! In 3 months I lower my triglycerides! From 244 to 144. In 6 months from 144 to 88! Go and check their programs. These doctors are right!

Hey, Joe Ordinary, and Jen, TVP (textured vegetable protein) is a great source of protein if you like a higher protein diet, as some people do. If you have it in the morning, or at lunch, it will stop you overeating from protein hunger later in the day. There are plenty of online recipes on how to cook with it.
Protein hunger?
@@ritabutler1951 Yes, protein hunger. Research done at the Charles Perkins Centre of The University of Sydney. I read about their research in SciTechDaily reported by University of Sydney on November 9, 2022. Check it out.
TVP is exposed to hexane in the process of separating out the soy oil from soy beans.
ApoB and Lp(a) are the markers that matter.
The cholesterol has to be balanced between the good and the bad , is ok for it to hi high but must be balanced
I highly favor coconut oil but the oils must all be as close to their proper ratios of omega 3s, 6s and so on
I’ve been looking at the carnivores channel, the comments are very interesting. Can’t wrap my head around that life style. And yet people are having amazing results?.
Beef MBA graduates and nothing more. Money can get you anything .
One should instead look into veganism and that non-human animals aren't object and suffer greatly just like us human animals. We wouldn't murder humans and specific pets but would easily pay a worker/slave to end some innocent life for our few mins of taste buds and so that we can get "protein" or some imaginary health that can't be obtained on plant based diet despite the largest nutritionist body in usa backing it ?! . Many cultures around the world barely include meat in their food and (meat isn't even food , it's just dead body parts that we can't consume raw or imagine getting it ourself ) . We aren't "carnivores" by any means ,would die easily in wild if not for fruits and growing crops . It's not like meat has some magical properties either.
Imo it's just a single food that body isn't having trouble with in short term since there is no fiber and barely any carbs and no "anti-nutrient" either . Absolutely destructive otherwise for our health(mentally and physically) and earth in every possible way. Even If one is ignorant about the reality behind meat they would go mad (as most carnist) by remaining on that diet..
Just stay away from that tribe when you know the truth and as much as possible try to include healthy plant food in your current diet by graudually increasing or as how you feel better. Talk to a good plant based doctor ,countless healthy recipes and info shared by good people and communities across other social platforms . How does a diet consisting of "murd***d body parts" fix in all this is or is even a question is disgusting thought. Even though it might not be disgusting for those who grew up on it not knowing the truth or forced themselves to like it but it's still disgusting stuff if you let a child know the full truth ...
With that said, plant based diet isn't perfect either if you don't have the discipline and enough reasons to stick to it.
Just need to be compassionate and open minded and try to do what as much as possible so someone doesn't have to die for your laziness.
Some transition to it immediately and do well (probably or don't complain like dumb "ex"- vegans and carnists) and for others it might take months/years to reverse the bad stuff(especially treating underlying health issues if any is a must) previous diet did and to increase the good gut microbiome.
Though there are cases like genetics(like in case of gluten ,lactose intolerance) where it might not work and as said damaged immune system and disturbed and/or bad microbiome which can be probably be made worse or are more noticable by ingesting variety of plants without knowing what you are doing.
And then there is sweet ,processed ,inorganic things ,couple that with sedentary lifestyle ,stress which most can't escape from and you have a recipe for diaster no matter how healthy plants are. There is no magic ofcourse if you see but a lot of work for unhealthy individuals and weak minds fall to the easiest sort term result elimination diet like that keto which they claim "cured" them but they don't go back to plant based stuff again unless ofcourse when they are dying.
Yet again, 'studies' are mentioned, such as drinking alcoholic drinks increases cancer risk without, sadly 😢, identifying them!!. Which studies? Please, please, please, in your Description section identify the studies to which you refer and give links to them!!!! This will enable viewers to get the details and to share your information with others, including the viewers physicians!!! Thank you!!!
I am very new on this plant based journey. Would you please share what should be on my plate every day? I don't know where to start. I eat two meals and a snack daily. Please help...
They are quite many plant based recipes on youtube, for example pickuplime youtube channel😊😊❤
Oh but I do have to die someday. Lol. But I'm going more and more plant-based. All my blood markers having improved. Doctor is so happy. Still working on my lipid profile. He's giving me three months without meds to see if I can improve them. I keep lapsing a little because my husband still eats meat. But now that I see it works better my blood results are going the next step is removing eggs and limiting dairy and cheese. Changing to soy milk. Taking a little getting used to. Love it in oat meal. If that doesn't work in 3 months. I will ask for another 3 months and adding good-quality fish. And if that doesn't work will go back on mild medication for Cholesterol.
Is mostly the polyphenols, antioxidants and medium chain triglycerides in foods ( that also helps undo the damage from the lectins )
Vegans naturally tend to eliminate highly processed foods which is where the damage comes from, also animal proteins from K1 cows is mainly where the food problem comes from as is with their cheeses, Though, once a week is better than more
? If you are WFPB and have clean coronary arteries can one assume their brain arteries are also clean?
I've been whole foods plant based for years. I never ate junk I never added salt. My processed food was plant milk. I developed hbp and heart disease. I did regress some of it. I gave up nuts and seeds and avocados. That was the only thing that helped. There are no healthy fats...not for the cardiovascular disease anyway.
Who do u work for ? Animal agriculture ?
I can definitely relate to your experience, Betzib8021! I've also been vegan for 10 years and had a heart attack last summer. My main weakness has been sweets, a sedentary job and stress. You can still eat a lot of junk as a vegan. You have to be a clean vegan and adopt other healthy lifestyle habits.
What is meaning of vegitarian diet ,I saw the one of my relation on vegetarian diet ,she had cholesterol, pressures and later dementia
What about anti nutrients like lectins, gluten,And phytric acid ,high omega 6 ,those are very bad.😊
@@johnnysco I am a clean vegan. I never cheat. My only sweets are some fruits. I am so sorry that happened to you. I understand.
Im so confused. Videos about keto, and plant based. There is research to suggest all of them are great. Its not helpful to confuse people. I have artery disease and weak kidneys. My doctors NEVER address the benefit of diet.

What's left to do if total cholesterol and LDL are where they should be, but HDL is lower than the desired number and triglycerides are higher than what's deemed healthy?
Listen to Tom Dayspring on The Proof to learn more.
HDL doesn't matter anymore.
@tonycollyweston6182 Thanks! Dr. Dayspring swears by the apo B test, and probably for a good reason.
He shoots down all kinds of ratios that others still use as predictors of CV events, but gives his approval (in the absence of an apo B test) to the use of the non-HDL cholesterol level as a reliable predictor of CV events. Others call it a surrogate for the apo B. He calls it the poor man's substitute of the apo B.
But the dilemma is that with TC at 144, LDL at 65 and non-HDL at 115 (target 130 or less), what do you do with triglycerides in the range of 192-249?
An apo B test will probably confirm what the non-HDL level suggests.
But no matter what these markers suggest, the triglyceride level is still high.
Given the other markers, the likely event may not be CV but pancreatitis!
Either one is a wonderful choice! 😉
Thanks again!
Most informative -- thanks, you two! One question, though, which pertains to the unhealthy findings of alcohol. For the most part, this is really nothing new. I think most whole-food, entirely plant-based eaters know this. We always hear from the medical doctors that we should really, really abstain from alcohol or, at least, substantially reduce our intake. But no one ever offers an alternative of what we're supposed to do to get our buzz. I'm not trying to be funny. We drink alcohol for that buzz, so when we're told to abstain from it, we're never offered an alternative. Thus, a very substantial majority of us are going to continue to indulge in alcohol consumption, even knowing the health risks.
Cannabis is the best alternative.
@@sevendeadlychins Thanks! I think you're probably right. 👍
@@Jim_LI can say that as a former alcoholic quitting drinking completely changed my health and my life. I'm 5 years sober.
As a cannabis user I find it has almost zero effect on my physical health and a very positive effect on my mental health.
Everyone is different, but alcohol is basically poison, while cannabis is a potent, but extremely useful herb. If you haven't tried it, just do your research - and be very careful and moderate. It's not for everyone, but it won't kill you. Alcohol was most definitely killing me.
I’ve read Tequila made from 100% agave is the healthiest spirit you can consume, if you’re going to imbibe. It’s made completely from the Agave plant, which provides a number of health benefits, it has less sugar and fewer calories (64 vs 90/100 for 1 oz compared to other spirits) and because it’s 80 proof, you only have to have 1 or 2 1-oz servings, sipped slowly, to give you that “buzz” you may be craving. Sip it neat, no additives. Another way to drink it is to have a shot glass of homemade tomato-based bloody Mary (called “sangrita” you can Google it) and sip it alongside the shot of tequila. Just make sure the bottle says it’s 100% pure agave.
the liver makes >70% of total cholesterol even if diet has zero cholesterol
One of the best ways to get rid of cholesterol is through bowel movements. Beans are one of the best ways to have large bowel movements.

I've been vegan 4 months. My total is 165, but my LDL is 100. I was surprised by that. Im hoping next time i get ut checked, it's lower. I'll have to make sure I'm not getting tropical oils. I'm thinking it's the vegan chocolate chip chocolate muffins I make regularly

Perfect diet plant based diet.
Does refined sugar cause cancer to grow?
Are egg whites just as bad for my heart n cholesterol?
I have been vegan for 10 years plus, My weight has not changed & Istill have clogged arteries so what else can I do??
Eat less processed food and exercise more. Vegan doesn't mean healthy.
You can't expect the diet to do it all. Some physicians believe that sugar causes elevated cholesterol. Get rid of all sugar in your diet and engage in at least 45 minutes of cardiovascular exercise at least 3 times a week!
Don’t eat ANY seed oils. Eat meat. This diet may not be for you. I was 15 years vegan and health declined until I recently went carnivores. So much better. We all have different body chemistries and microbiomes.
Yes my cholesterol is higher than ever .. gotta be the all the coconut milk / cream
And Dr. Hyman says coconut milk is okay. He doesn't look as healthy as Dr. Barnard, but he had a lot of heath problems as a younger man.
"They" say that the overeating of carbs turn into fat, is that true or eating beans and potatoes, rice really okay
Beans, rice and potatoes are definitely ok 😊
Just watch the quantities. If you want to be vegan, most of your diet should be non-starchy vegetables. Ideally, you should eat (depending on your size) 8 to 10 cups of vegetables a day.
Plant based did not bring my weight down. Granted i only need to lose about 10lb. My blood sugars were horrible on it though. A lot of the plant based food takes forever for your sugar to go up...i did not know how to bolus for the food. I tried mastering diabetes.. the 2 guys.. they wanted like 6k. I'm sorry but i don't have that kind of money just laying around.
I'm now on a raw diet of fruit and vegetables only. My blood sugars have been way better.
Eat whatever … just cut out SEED OILS, SUGAR, PROCESSED FOOD, CARBS. Lots of vegetarians dropping from heart attacks.. After 15 years vegetarian.. ruined my health. Only healing after eating meat. Gotta start paying more attention to blood type.
Wasn't he the same Dr that pushed the jab?
???
How about just coconut water
Great episode! I learn so much from this podcast. I recently had my doctor order a blood test - kind of a "pop blood test" and my results are scary. My cholesterol (bad) is 315 and my triglycerides are 480, my non-HDL Cholesterol of 256, my Hemoglonin A1C is 5.8 and my Direct LDL is 182. I am close to a year into eating WFPB and limiting my intake of sugar, oils, and salt but with these results, it looks like I am eating cookies, ice cream, and a gallon of soda a day. Since I eat quite healthily, the explanation I can come up with is a family history of heart disease, high blood pressure, and stroke. I am upset that my doctor has NOT mentioned the results of my blood test. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm with you. Went strict WFPB 6 years ago. 4 years in I was in the hospital getting another heart stint. I am not overweight, do not smoke, do not drink alcohol, and an avid cyclist. I am at my wits end.
@@Hopeinthee Do you eat high carbs - even if they are healthy? I think high carbs can be a problem and am now trying to lower mine.

I eat carbs, but primarily whole grains and very little processed foods. I cook all the time it seems like.
See if you can check with a dietician. Maybe they can look at your diet see if there's areas that can be improved to improve your lipids. Cut out the oils and fats, if you haven't done that already and see what happens. I know people may scream at me hear but try adding some good quality oily fish like salmon and tuna and sardines and see what happens after 3 months. All the research I've done it looks like the Mediterranean diet which is basically vegetarian with fish improves those lipids better than strict vegetarian for some people. @annfrank6488
Hi Angie..just saw your comment...maybe watch your carb intake..I eat to many carbs I have to watch it... it raises my blood sugar too high get yourself a glucose meter very affordable great tool...
I wish someone could help me. I feel like im dying. My annual visit and bloodwirk is awful. Im 55 and i feel 85. I look as bad as i feel. I know i need to change, but im so miserable. i just eat. I drink coke like water. I have no energy and can not sleep. I don't even know where to start.
Cut out sugar in coke or anywhere else. Eat whole food plant based. No oil. Best I can offer.
You just have to instill discipline into your life. It takes courage and a made up mind to do it. You CAN do this!!!

yesssss
True 100% confused. One dr said one thing n another said the opposite wtf.
So confusing. Maybe we should try each one for two weeks and see what happens LOL.
I think you have to experiment with yourself. I honestly believe some diets work well for some people & other diets work better for others. Being in a state of ketosis isn't bad, but most of the time you should do it through fasting.
I have been doing a mostly vegan diet. 6 days a week my diet is vegan, but 1 day a week I have one meal with some wild caught canned salmon to get B12 and Omega-3s in the most bioavailable way. I supplement on other days, but one day a week I get them through fish.
Though at the moment I am actually vegan 3 days a week, pescatarian 1 day a week for 1 meal, and fasting 3 days a week at the moment to shed my excess weight. I am also resistance training on three of my feeding days and eating more than maintenance on the feeding days while trying to hit 1 gram of protein per centimeter of height to gain muscle while losing fat. If my bioimpedenve scale is to be believed, I have shed 33 lbs of fat while adding 6 lbs of muscle in the last month. I don't know that I think the muscle mass gains are accurate, but strength is improving so I I do believe over the course of the next year I will be able to add enough muscle to maintain my BMR.
That's like cutting down smoking to one day a week.
@@JeffC-fq1be no it really is not.
@@jeremybarlow2291 Not the the exact same as smoking, but same concept.
@@JeffC-fq1be my thoughts are if Ralph Nader has concerns about the 2 things lacking from a vegan diet ie B12 and Omega-3s and he supplements, that 1 meal a week with 2 servings of salmon which makes enough of those elements available to you in one meal a week in the most bioavailable way, is not going to hurt you. I only know those are Ralph's concerns because we share a mutual friend. I figure Ralph is one of the smartest and healthiest people at his advanced age I am aware of so, I am going to address the one weakness of the vegan diet with one meal a week that fixes those deficiencies.
@@jeremybarlow2291 Eating foods with saturated fat once a week is better than every day, that's for sure. The same with palm oil. I doubt that Dr. Neal would think it's a good idea. I'll stick with taking B12 every two days.
I've been vegan for 10 years and WFPB most of the time. I suffer from low blood pressure, which makes me feel very weak most of the time. Unfortunately, adding more salt didn't help. Anyone have any ideas what I can do to raise my blood pressure?
See a cardiologist so that the cause can be pinpointed. Then the solution can be clear.
Eat a little wild caught salmon, sardines, grass fed beef. No reason to not include a little of these foods in your diet.
Always stay well hydrated so much so that your urine barely has any color. I've almost passed out a couple of times from dehydration but never felt thirsty.
@@annemccarron2281 yes. It happened to my daughter. She barely drinks water.
How can we eat vegetables if they're destroying our vegetables and we can't get it because of the shut down
My cousin was a vegan from the time she was a teen, living on boiled and raw vegetables, beans, lentils and fruits. She used to go on long walks every day. I thought she was doing everything right. But she was plagued with sinus problems and suffered from oedema, dying of a heart attack in her fifties. I never understood why.
I'm 72 and drugged by Dr' who should know better🙏🏼
I'm very disappointed in this Establishment 💜🧡💙💞🎶🙏🏼
Please Stop🧡 and do no harm
We ALL die eventually. lol
LF, a Vegan diet! Kind of obvious
"EVEN VEGANS DIE"__ GINNY MESSINA
Ya’ll need to watch your titles. We all are going to die. None of us gets out of here alive. You don’t have to prematurely die would be better.
The title is not misleading. Eating healthy can save your life from early death. That's what they Podcaster are talking about!
I know people who have a vegan diet and are very overweight. Too much junk vegan food and need to make the distinction and talk about a whole food plant based diet without salt oil or sugar.
Then there's the lectins and gluten - whew!!!! Confusing.
You would think that is self-evident by even moderately educated people.
26,000 people died a day? More than Covid😂😂😂😂😂 wow!
And yet it didn't cause a panic
Wow, what a satanic title. "For ALL have sinned, all fall short of God's Glorious standards. For no one is righteous, NO...NOT..ONE." For the wages of SIN is DEATH, But the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Very poor science...misleading.
