A common problem fault find and fix... fault showed up on an Autel scan tool as "primary ignition failure" ECU repaired by www.ecutechnologies.co.uk good service... - Наука та технологія
Thanks for the info jetblack. I managed to gather camera pics of the motorcraft coil. One pic revealed the magic numbers 1,3 and 2,4 revealing the correct cable positioning. Would have been even harder work without those numbers.
Pleased to help...cheers....Trevor
Great video, would this cause an intermittent ‘EAC Fail’ fault?
Hello Rob...thanks for your kind comment.....I used an Autel code reader from Amazon...it came up "primary ignition fault"
as it was a failed output Device (an IGBT I think) the ECU is happy in it's self, so an educated guess I'd say no...
But at £10.00 for the coil on ebay it is an easy swap and eliminate....cheers....Trevor
Hi great video and very helpful.
I have a 2007 Fiesta 1.4 and pretty certain have an ECU issue and need to take it out and get it tested. Wondering how you got the wiring harness off the ECU. There is a hole on the plastic casing of the harness where it looks like there should be a bolt to unscrew it - but no bolt? Any help much appreciated.
Hello Phil....... I'm sure there was a screw holding the plug in-place... but I'm sure it broke the head came off, and I replaced it, if look carefully at 2:21 you can see a shiny looking head of the bolt and a penny washer but a lot has happened in the last 3 years so I wouldn't bet my life on it....!
The plug is very tight on the ECU still had to carefully lever it off...use a tapered piece of wood rather than a screwdriver.... I found www.ecutechnologies.co.uk
much cheaper than other companies I phoned, to get the ECU repaired and I know enough about electronics to tell the complete mumbo jumbo BS that came out of some of them...!
All the best....Trevor
@@jetblack11td Hi Trevor... thanks for the reply. Apparently these ECUs are often bolted on with Shear bolts that are designed to break when tightened - a security thing apparently. That seemed to be the case with my one. Spent 2½ hours carefully drilling it out with small drill bits and a dremell a friend had - you have to be very careful not to damage the ECU or attached wiring loom and not very easy. Assume Ford have a special attachment to do this. Anyway managed it in the end and will send to ecutechnologies and hope the issue is the ecu. Mine starting misfiring on cylinders 2 and 4 at low revs + also failed to start on occasion all possible symptoms of a damaged ecu apparently.
Thanks for all the help.
Hello Phil.... You have jogged my memory (getting old you see!) we did have to drill it out hence the new bolt and penny washer to hold the plug......
been a fair old bit of water under the bridge since then...!
All the best....Trevor
Hello ! My Mondeo from 2008 2.0 gasoline gets the cilinder 1 and 4 cut off randomly just at 800rpm but not when I am driving only and idle ! I changed the coils, al 4 of them but I still get the worning on cilinder 4 frequently and often cilinder 1 ! Could it be the ecu ? Also change the pins inside the coil connectors cop! It is driving me crazy this 🚙
Hello...Seasons greetings from the UK....Have you eliminated the HT leads and the plugs? you say you changed the coils are they like this with one coil that does all 4 cylinders, or does it have coil packs on the top of each?
All the best....Trevor
Nice Video, no unnecessary faff, good job. My 2005 fiesta climate has an intermitant problem with loss of acceleration, then its fine. No engine codes or dash lights. Was thinking coil pack ? Would also change leads to be sure though. Would the coil pack cause this kind of issue ? like i said Intermitant and frustrating .
Hello when mine failed it was bringing on the ECU light and the code read primary ignition fault as I explained in the video it did damage the ECU... however as the parts are pretty cheap the fit bits mode of fault finding is worth a try I think you can get a cheap pattern coil for about £15 delivered leads and plugs change one at a time have a good look at all the wiring and connectors looking for loose and /or corroded connectors...best of luck ...Trevor
@@jetblack11td Thanks for the responce, It chucked up an Engine managment light which basicly said Lamda sensor fault just after I posted, then the next day the Check engine light went off ? Its certainly a wierd one cause i changed the lambda sensor back in Feb ? as of today, no engine lights and seems to be running ok. Ive orderwed the coil pack and I have new HT leads so we shall se how it goes. Just so many things that can cause the same symptoms...ARRGGGHHH. lol
It was the Lambda, running fine now.
Cool...!
I have just removed and refitted the spark plug leads on my 2001 ford ka having the same coil as in your video. I have refitted up to three of the four leads incorrectly on the coil. I only know for sure the correct position of the number one cylinder lead on the coil. The firing order is 1-2-4-3 so I have gone anticlockwise on the coil with these cylinder numbers. Is there any guidance on how to position the leads on the coil apart from trying various combinations?
Hello petaljucie.... I won't ask about the user name...! The spark plugs are fired in pairs the so called "wasted spark system" generally plug 1 and 4 together and 2 and 3 have a look at www.crypton.co.za/Tto%20know/Ignition/wasted%20sp.html Explains it quite well
if you watch the video at 0:27 seconds on the original Motorcraft coil you can see the markings 1 and 4 nearest the camera and 3 and 2 behind should Help..... all the Best.....Trevor
Mine smoking is it possible ecu i change i change engine but the same
Sounds like a fuel problem, what colour is the smoke? is it firing on all cylinders...?
I just checked out some of your Video's pretty cool....... does MR Muscle clean a DPF? Iv'e used it to unblock Diesel inlet manifolds before....
@@jetblack11td all cylinders firing white smoke 3k rpm 20 minutes smoke fine once min rpm smoke back again new spark plugs new pcv valve changed engine the same problem
@@jetblack11td yeap i cleaned my dpf using it
