    I bought the exact same one at the beginning of the year and it’s a solid piece! I ordered the bracelet and it is very comfortable with micro adjust on the fly. It’s an awesome piece that doesn’t receive the attention that it should!

    First I like to say thanks for the video and your opinion, I purchased my Mido Ocean Star GMT Blue version on 9/18/2020 from an Authorized Dealer in Germany because when I had my picture lust for the this watch it hadn't been sold yet in the USA. I get the watch I love the watch, I find wearing the watch on Nato straps, and the watch grows in my love for the watch. I love GMT watches and I own 6 other GMT watches and this watch holds it own with my 2016 Rolex Batman and I think it near edges my 2020 Tudor BB Gmt Pepsi, so I wear the watch for approximately 7 months and not everyday I rotate with my other watches and come around April 2021. The watch has its first failure. The Hour Hand and the Date Wheel stop working. watch goes to Swatch group for repair and I don't see the watch for 3 months watch comes back straight from repair in July 2021 and the second Failure happens where the Manual Wind stop working , again watch goes back and they fix the watch. So now I am happy and the watch comes back and back into rotation and I still love the watch. Now the watch has it's forth failure and the Seconds Hand stop working and I send the watch into Swatch repair in New Jersey and they are going to fix the watch and during my conversations with the customer reps, they are telling me if I want a new watch I need to talk to the A.D. in Germany , but I tell them no I love the watch and I still want , but finally I convince them to completely replace the movement of the watch because the watch really had 4 major failures, 1. Hour hand 2. Date wheel 3. Manual wind 4. Seconds hands have all failed to work. I am still waiting the repair to finish, I am hoping to get my watch back in September or October depending on when they get the parts. I believe they are going to give me a new 2 year warranty. In my opinion I love the watch I want the watch I just want it to work correctly and use it , love it for all the reasons I purchased the watch. from other posts I heard that the first bunch of watches made sold in Asia & Europe were defective but I have no proof but I know what's happen to mine. Thanks for letting me share my story and experiences with my watch and again thanks for your video and all the best.

      That's unfortunate to hear. Hopefully they get it sorted out for you soon. I haven't heard of anyone with a similar problem yet so hoping they get it fixed. Thanks for letting us know. I'd love to hear an update on it when you get it back. Thanks.

    Great watch! I took a look at it but finally decided to skip GMT this time and go for the Ocean Star Tribute due to its smaller size at 40,5 mm. Drawback on the Tribute is the worse lume and maybe the 21 mm lugwith. In regards to quality, I regard it fairly high, running VERY precisely at +3 seconds a day. Looks like MIDO does an execellent, yet underrated job on the present collection.

    I do hope that Mido will put this movement in smaller case sizes eg 38mm to 42mm so that those with smaller wrist size can own it. Mido also offer COSC with silicone hairspring movement in their Commander and Multifort series which retail for less than $1500. Mido need to step up their marketing and social media works.

    It does look like a really nice watch Bob. I wanted to try on the Mido GMT the last time I was at Gem Bijou, but Sam didn't have it in stock at the time, only the regular Ocean Star Tribute (which felt too small). As you know, I've ordered the Tudor BB Pepsi GMT, and am hoping to get it soon, but my collection currently has no GMT's and at that price for a true GMT, it's a steal. I might have to just wander over there and pick one up along with another G-Shock.

    The Seiko Sharp Edge GMT would be a great comparison with this Mido! They are at a similar price. I suspect the Mido will be better for anyone favoring more water resistance while the Seiko would be better for those with a smaller wrist.

    Can you get this with the bracelet as well? The blue version, which is my favourite, only appears on the website with the blue strap. That strap is certainly handsome, but it is a divers watch with a 200 meter certification, and I don't think anybody is even going swimming, never mind diving in salt water, with a leather-backed band. I would want both the band and the bracelet if I were to order one.

    • @TimeToGoTravelAndTimepieces
      @TimeToGoTravelAndTimepieces  Рік тому

      Yeah I wish it came with the bracelet option too. I believe you could probably order a bracelet separately but not sure what the cost of the bracelet on its own would be. It would probably look good on an aftermarket rubber strap too. Thanks!

      This is a diving watch. That is what the Ocean Star is all about. With that being said, I totally agree with you regarding the strap. It looks gorgeous, but leather and water are not a good match.

    • @robboinnz
      @robboinnz 2 роки тому

      I prefer the 24 scale fixed, allowing a bezel timer. Timers are so useful. You can still track two time zones this way which is fine mostly.

    Dumb question. Does this watch always need to be wound by hand or is it self winding?

  • @3rdpig
    @3rdpig 2 роки тому +2

    That's a good looking watch, but I have to say that I feel the whole "true GMT" thing is a bit inconsequential in the age of digital watches and cell phones, much in the way mechanical dive watches are inconsequential in the age of inexpensive wrist dive computers. While still useful, most serious travelers will probably opt for something digital...or just their phone. And I have to say "True GMT" sounds kind of watch snobbish. No insult intended. But it's like bragging up a 1000 meter dive watch when most of us will never get deeper than a backyard swimming pool. At some point we need to admit it's a fashion statement or just bragging.

    • @TimeToGoTravelAndTimepieces
      @TimeToGoTravelAndTimepieces  2 роки тому +1

      I totally agree. Slap a Gshock or Protrek on your wrist or just have a phone in your pocket and you're good to go. It's a bit of a novelty but it's still fun to use functions like the gmt. Even the dive bezel, I'll use it to time something occasionally but there's easier ways to do it these days.
      I kind of look at watches the same as classic car enthusiasts look at their cars. No AC, maybe no power steering/windows, no nav etc. but they're still cool.

    • @duvalpenny100
      @duvalpenny100 2 роки тому

      All watch collectors come to realization that the hobby is mostly unnecessary. As far as functionality goes, almost nobody needs anything more than a basic gshock. People start collecting watches mainly because they just think it's cool or for the fashion, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

    The "stutter" of the GMT hand as you adjust it is a feature, not a bug. It's called a jumping hour hand and the point it that you can super-quickly adjust it to the current time zone and the hour fine tuning is all set. Pretty mediocre review to not even know that ... honestly, get with the program dude

    • @TimeToGoTravelAndTimepieces
      @TimeToGoTravelAndTimepieces  Рік тому

      I have owned a number of gmt's. I'm aware of what a jumping hour is. This had a little stutter between the hour making the jump compared to others I've experienced. Wasn't a big problem with the watch just not as a refined feeling action.
