Big shout out to Alan for the loan of his nice and shiny Mido! (And for the Seiko you'll see in a couple of weeks.) A bit big for me personally, but a cracking movement and amazing AR. An appealing long term all-rounder with diving capabilities, and a proper traveler's GMT. Now, all they need (according to me anyway) is a bit more targeted marketing and to reissue some of those stunners from the past. Cheers, Jody
Don’t see Mido in the UK but I was in Germany last week and saw plenty of Mido watches. I was so taken that I bought a Mido Ocean Star Tribute Ltd Edition. I’m really pleased with it, built really well, feels good on the wrist, I’ve worn it every day since.
Grey with orange? I have the Baroncelli with sliver dial and Multifort Patrimony blue dial. Good value and love the looks.
I have the blue one. Terrible lume but otherwise killer watch on a killer bracelet.
Yeah, the OS Tribute is a solid diver. I tried one on at a Swatch Grp AD.
I ended up going with the Certina DS PH200M, not because I didn't l like the Mido, simply because I connected with the Certina more.
My Mido's day window opts for english and german. This is from the US.
MIDO watches are made in Le Locle in the manufacture where Tissot and Certina and Hamilton are made, too. However, they are positioned higher quality-wise and usually get the better ETA movements (quality level Top or Chronometer, as opposed to Standard and Elabore, which are generally used for Tissot/Certina/Hamilton or for external sales to non-Swatch watchmakers).
Unfortunately, this puts MIDO in a bit of an awkward spot: Higher than the entry-level Swiss watchmakers but not quite on the level of Longines and Rado. The quality is probably actually closer to Longines and Rado but these two watchmakers have found their own niche (Longines as a well known luxury watch maker with a rich history, Rado as a watchmaker famous for its top quality ceramic cases and bezels).
MIDO, however, is a bit in branding limbo. They are well-made watches but do not have a distinctive brand identity except being very classical and conservative watches. The Baroncelli is a typical dresswatch, the Ocean Star is a typical diver. But in each category there is a watch from another brand that "pops" more. Silently making quality watches isn't enough to move the brand into the limelight - unfortunately, because MIDO would deserve it.
I dont give a rat's ass about the history of the watch brand. And those who do are snobs. All I care about is the tangible quality and features of the watch. My mido ocean star chronograph can hold its own against rolex diver watches. Those willing to pay 10 times more just because it's a Rolex are suckers
That’s the case with every brand and not only Mido. In its price range Mido actually pops up the most, because design and quality looks the best.
I can confirm MIDO´s incredible brand presence in Mexico. Every Shopping Mall in Mexico City has a MIDO boutique as well as their pieces being offered in most watch ADs. I think they offer incredible quality at the price point. RADO is a close second but their prices are generally 10 -20% higher.
My profession takes me around the world. Once while in Europe, I bought my father a Mido dress watch. Over the last 15 years he buys primarily Mido. For my uncle's birthday, Pop bought him a Mido, and for my birthday, he bought me the Ocean Star.
I'm like that with Certina.
My Uncle was career navy. In his time the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) were issued Certina DS-3 divers.
I've got the DS PH200M, a DS Podium and am currently saving for the newish DS Chronograph Automatic re-issue.
My cousin still has my late uncles RAN issued DS-3 and his wife and an Aunt wear Vintage Certina too.
I like it when a family adopts a specific watch brand, especially when it's not a 'household name' sorta brand.
@@anthonysmith2982, awesome. I totally agree with you. Thanks for sharing.

Ditto mate. I'm really kicking myself for not picking up the Ocean Star Decompression Timer Diver when I could. One of the best Summer watches released in recent years (along with Zodiac's Watermelon Super Sea Wolf).
I don't know if they're selling; but on eBay the Decompression Timer is listed for ~$4K AUD / $3KUSD. Sorta insane...
@@anthonysmith2982 How's the tritium lume on your uncle's original DS-3? After 50 years is there any glow left?
@@andysmith1996
TBH I'm not 100% sure mate. My cousin isn't really a watch guy and doesn't wear the watch much, if at all. I haven't seen it IRL for years and last time I did hold it I didn't check.
swatch intentionally slpit their marketing strategies by continent/country. in central and eastern europe, certina is the definitive entry level swiss watch alongside tissot. in america/canada/aus, hamilton and tissot are the most popular entry level swiss piece. in india, rado is huge. you've mentioned mexico, but in china prc also, mido's brand name is as widely known as tissot and longines. so it's not a surprise people from different regions have different perception of brand popularity. hello from melbs.
Hello Stan! Indeed, they seem to focus their efforts as far as Mido is concerned elsehwere. Which I think is a shame considering some of those only honeys they could bring back. Cheers!
Brilliant, thanks.
That strategy, found pretty much across the globe in almost all fields, also helps guard against becoming a one-trick-pony, which can have disastrous consequences if a firm puts all its eggs in one basket.SImple commerce.
I am in Canada and even if they were to try for some traction, there are better-known players for the price. Had they been just a doggone smaller, I might have considered a model or two.
I was on my way to pickup my Seiko from service and popped into a watch store, I think on Swanston St. They had all Swatch group watches and just about a full range of Mido. They looked super nice I must say. For some reason though no Hamilton. Anyone aware of a dealer in Melbourne that sells them?
@@gavanmitchell9095 a watch store was open in the CBD?!
My first automatic watch is a MIDO Multifort. Did some research back in 2018 and it seemed to be the best value in the 500-1000 € category on the watches they sell in Finland. I wanted to buy my watch from a traditional shop, so part of the money goes to the local entrepreneur.
I own a Mido Ocean Star Tribute and it's a great watch. Of the four entry level Swatch Group brands, Mido is at the top. The reason nobody talks about Mido is because they have a limited market presence in most English speaking countries, but you'll find they are well-known elsewhere (e.g. Latin America) and Swatch targets them accordingly to those markets.
Solid knowledge right there! I doff my hat.
Yes, I was on a cruise and the sales guy in the watch shop knew the brand. I thought it was a good watch for the money. Think he was from South America.
Mido is a fantastic brand with great and cheap consumer service. There divers are the best in the catalog but also the dress pieces such as the DatoDay are very nice.
Here in Mexico they're all over the place alongside with Nivada and Hamilton.
Because Mido is a brand with heritage in the country. In fact the word "Mido" means "I meassure" (refering to meassuring time) in spanish, and it was given that name to the company because the original owner's brother was learning spanish in Mexico and he just fall in love with the culture and the lenguage.
I've collected Mido's here in the states for about 20 years. The brand is underrated. The Commander with the diamond cut applied indecise is an iconic Swiss styled watch.
Very cool Chris. I've got one Mido and I'm looking to add to the collection. Love this brand
I can confirm that Mido is well known and respected here in Mexico. They're considered a tier above Tissot and below Longines. You can find them in high end stores and they get prominent shelf space in the watch section.
Fully agree with Mario, I own 2 about to get a multifort , and the Ocean Star is my buying list
Would love to see some Certina reviews as well! They are also a great option if you are looking for affordable, great value vintage pieces! If you ever head down that rabbit hole again...
Yes! Certina have been a blind spot for too long 😔
Agreed
they are making some great dive watches at the moment
@@JustOneMoreWatch I recently bought a new DS Action C032.851.22.037.00. It’s a great watch and I’d loan it to you for review if I didn’t live in Dundee, Scotland. I fear it’d be months to get there and back 😂
@@JustOneMoreWatch Certina, another brand that nobody notice. They had released a special Himalayas edition to celebrate the successful first ascent of the Dhaulagiri in 1960s (if you are lucky and you can find one). You can also look for the aqua DS PH200M - C036.407.18.040.00
I’m actually from Milan, Italy. We do have a few Mido authorized dealers over here. Not sure how popular they are. Local UA-camrs seldom talk about the brand. However I do own a Multifort Patrimony grey dial. An amazing design, still in love with the dial after months. Definitely deserves more recognition
I really like how Mido did the 120 click rotating dive time bezel and the fixed internal 24hr GMT bezel! So it's a proper diver and travelers watch. Also the color on this strap just looks excellent!! Great watch and looks awesome too!
Love the color way, love the style, love the functions. Shoot, I don’t even mind the canvas strap. But I’ll be that guy and say… I wish the case was at least 2mm smaller.
Agreed. Travel wathes should be small
It's only 40mm. Because of the bezel, it will look smaller, more like a 39 or 38, about the same size as an Oris Diver 65.
Oops, never mind, my mistake; I was thinking the Oceanstar Tribute, a retro design, not this one. This GMT is 44mm, quite large as you say.
Interesting point.
44mm X >50mm is a weird set of dimensions, hey? I wouldn't be surprised if it wears more like a 42mm but I have a feeling that this is one you'd want to try before you buy.
I believe the regular ocean star non-GMT is a 42mm. I'd go that route or the tribute at 40.5mm and the killer bracelet.
Mido together with Certina are the most underrated brands out there. I live in Switzerland so I know them since I was a child. Mido's flagship models are the Multifort range. Have a look at them, great value for money.
Greetings from Mexico and yes, here Mido is perceived as an excellent watch brand. Here in the 60s and 70s successful people were wearing Midos specially Commander in gold. Soo when you see a Mido on someone's wrists you naturally think about your grandpa's or uncle's watch.
Great to see Mido getting some love around here. As I said a while ago, I love my Mido Commander, and not a reissue but it's been in production since 1959. The case and the dynamics of the design were always a good conversation starters when I have it on my wrist.
Mido is huge in Mexico, they sponsor even local tv news. Theres a Mido beautique in every mexican mall and are sold in every retail store. On early XX century Elgin railroad pocket watches was Mexico's main brand. By the 50's that place was took by Steelco and Haste ( US ownership, Mexico made watches with swiss movements). Tissot and Mido were strong maybe due to the resemblance to aztec -mexica name "Tizoc" for Tissot, guess Mido's name was familiar on the most popolous spanish speaking country, ( [yo] mido means [I] measure in spanis, time in this case). Mexico had a Westclox alarm clock facility also. After the quartz crisis Bulova and Citizen kept their market share alongside Mido. Commander was very popular among police officers (as Rolex was with police chiefs). Even a XXI century mexican folk singer is named "El Komander", maybe due to that influence. Nowadays Mido's main adversary is (Grupo Salinas) Nivada (not to be confused with Nivada Grenchen revival microbrand sold in swiss francs) that sponsors national tv news (also owned Grupo Salinas), has mexican football league teams products and is sold in every retail (mexican Sears by Grupo Carso, Liverpool, Fábricas de Francia etc).
Here in Mexico, Mido is quite popular as entry level swiss watches, the brand positioned itlself since the 70's and a Mido watch it's very common as a graduation gift after high school.
I'm new to the hobby. After much research, my first and only purchase so far was a Mido All Dial chronometer. I loved the style and the features for the money. Mine is running at a respectable +2 secs per day. Very happy with it.
Mido is the Rolex of the upper middle class in Mexico my friend. You can find them everywhere here, even special editions made for Mexico like Dia de Muertos editions.
Thanks for the clarification!
Man, too funny. I bought a mido at the start of the year, German day/date vintage piece. I liked it so much I tracked down a commander datoday COSC certified (I live in Canada 🇨🇦 and generally we get only the same pieces the us gets.) if you can imagine I paid 500$ CAD for a chronometer with documents and registration. And it’s beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. And when people ask me about it they’ve never heard of it. It’s like a Zodiac, but more so. They have an incredible back catalogue and they’re virtually unheard of outside of Europe (apparently the Mexican people are on the ball) great review as usual. Camera work is really great, new camera? Also for reference sake 500$ CAD is about 399$ USD…for a cosc certified chronometer?
Had a Mido commander daydate homage, loved it! Great review 😊
Thanks for this great video Jody! I'm wearing a Mido Ocean Star 600 chronometer...600M WR, helium valve, dive extension, 80 hour power reserve, silicon springs, COSC, sapphire and ceramic, for $1700 MSRP (and got mine for less). Other than Christopher Ward I don't know a single other brand that can offer anywhere near that combination of specs at that price (?). It's just a beast and also a beauty, and can't believe it hasn't taken off more in the watch enthusiast world outside of Latin America and Asia.
My dad always liked Mido watches, last year I gave him the Ocean Star Tribute, and it's his daily watch ever since. All his acquaintances like and value the brand and the watch design. Greetings from Mexico.
Mido’s got a really balanced look in everything they do, and I think a lot of their dials, hands, indices are all better proportioned than the other better-known Swatch brands. I do wish they weren’t as large of cases like many commenters here. Still have a soft spot for the brand. I visited Taiwan 🇹🇼 once and it was very cool to see so many Mido boutiques / dealers.
I owe 4 Midos and I am not Mexican 😉 I did change the straps of 3 of them though to make them look even better. Very underrated watch brand. But this makes you wear something pretty unique among your peers. 😜
Nice review. I have 2 Mido watches. The blue Ocean Star Tribute and the white dial 39mm Mido Baroncelli III. Both are awesome watches. Wish they made the regular Ocean Stars in a smaller size (40-41mm). It boggles my mind that the Baroncelli doesn’t get much coverage. It’s literally the best dress watch value on the planet. So beautiful. ETA 2982, heat blued second hand, textured white dial and dual finished flat hands that appear 3D not to mention only 7mm thick.
I've been thinking about this one a while - good value for a true GMT movement with 80-hour reserve.
But I'm afraid the size is a deal breaker.
I started watch collecting again with a 43mm Vostok-Europe but do not wear it any more, now that I'm used to my Orient Kamasu.
I have my eye on a Farer World Timer - all the Farers are a reasonable size. The lume on their Roche WT is INSANE, you should check it out if you are able.
Cheers for the thorough review!
Great review again Jody, I seen it in the flesh at David Jones in Sydney City store, I was tempted to purchase but some thing in the back of my mind said no, the day before June Sydney lock down, I may go back and look at it again once we can in Sydney, enjoy your informative reviews
I have a couple of Mido watches and have to say I really like them for quality and price, the Multifort Patrimony looks great and the baroncelli.
I love the functionality of that GMT movement. That's really useful. The poor lume at this price though and having to pay extra for the bracelet 😬
MIDO is incredibly undervalued and let's be clear: MIDO sits above Hamilton, Tissot & Certina- not under! They are more on par with Longines. Great value for the money.
Good to know someone knows the difference, and you’re spot on.
Agree. Awesome value and at least in Mexico, Mido is very well regarded. A classic!!
Yes they are undervalued, but no, they are not close to being on the level Longines. I would generally put them above Tissot but they sit firmly in the range of Certina.
@@stuartcole4845 it’s all opinions at the end of the day
Wrong. Mido is definitely below Tissot, and does not have the heritage and innovation that Tissot carries. Tissot was around 50 years before a Mido
The sports/dress side of Certina and Mido are THE untapped part of the watch game IMO, and are excellent for their price!
Absolutely love this setup. Citizen bj7110 in eco drive has same setup on titanium. If Monta ever offered their Skyquest with the Oceanking bezel insert that would look killer. This only works if the chapter ring or rehaut has the 24 hour scale. Greatings from Texas. Thanks for the content.
I have a Ti Ocean Star and love it. The powermatic 80 movement is a PITA to regulate, and the watch did require it. But once done, it's a great watch, particularly for the money.
One of the most underated tool watches you can buy is the Certina DS Action in Titanium - very rarely gets any reviews
Their DS Action Divers are great. Check out their DS Ph200m and DS Super Ph500m. Great diver watches with real history and amazing build quality. Best value for money divers imo.
Exactly! Their divers are really good spec-to-price. Always discounted in my country like seiko but better in my opinion (price wise)
Thanks for the tip! I just looked it up and it seems great with a much better case diameter than this Mido here.
Thank Ian, I will check that out.

I heard about Mido from my grandpa, that was 40 years ago, I heritage his watch and I have two more that I bought myself.
I have a 1950s Mido Multifort Powerwind, anti shock and anti magnetic. It runs like a champ
I'd say the Mido Commander is their retro style watch. I have that one and a Mido Multifort as a dressy sport watch.
For the first Certina review I'd recommend the Certina DSAD 38, somehow it's the most comfortable diver I (6.75" wrist) have ever worn
I’m waiting on an Ocean Star 200 to be delivered , I’m from brisvegas and can’t say I’d heard of them before as an Aussie consumer🤷🏼♂️ .I Stumbled upon the brand looking for a deal on an Oris , which truth be told is a tad out of my price range, so this model and brand is a perfect way to get myself my first Swiss made . I’m super excited !!
EXCELLENT QUESTION! How do I always forget about Mido?! :O Loved this video J!
Very nice. They do have good presence in Latin America and are well regarded although not considered collector pieces among enthusiasts any more than in other regions. I recently came across a model called Ocean Star Tribute and is something I could see myself wearing. Great video!
Wow - so great to see this watch getting some YT love! I own the exact colorway you reviewed here. It truly is a bargain for what you get, and I love the colorway, the true GMT movement, and that it has a dive bezel (not a common feature on a gmt). A company out of the USA, Watchband Expert, offers the oem Mido bracelet for only $168! Overall a great watch for those of us who have larger watch preferences 😁
Glad to hear. I have had my eye on this watch for months. Given its traveler/jumping hour hand GMT function, and the WR depth and dive bezel to boot, I think that with a bracelet swap this could be a one and done watch for travel, including nice nights out. The price is great, and appeals to me to take a less precious GMT traveling. I would want to try one on if possible to see if the size works, but I think it would given that my Samurais are just about 1 mm shorter lug to lug, though I can understand that folks with smaller wrists would think it's too big.
@@MessagingMatters I like the way you think regarding taking a “less expensive GMT traveling” 👍
Fantastic review Jody.
What an awesome alternative to the Tudor BB GMT. Possibly a bit too chunky for my tastes but very well specified and made.
Also, at least one online jeweller here in DE offers this blue GMT with both strap and bracelet at RRP so in effect you get the bracelet for free b
Nice review of a seldom appreciated brand. I have the Mido Barencelli Heritage. It's a dress watch from a few years back. I know your not huge on dress watches but this one may be worth your time to take a look at. It's perhaps the best dress watch you can bye under a thousand. Great dimensions, classic and elegant design with a subtle but beautiful dial. Under 11mm thick as well I believe! Thanks Jody!
Great review, as usual. I was seriously thinking about one of these new Mido divers, fairly priced but just like the Bulova moon watch, gorgeous and stunning looking piece which is way over big at 44mm with 49 mm length lugs. What is behind this craze for 44, 45 and 46 mm diameter watches ? I'm no midget at 5"11 with nearly 7 inch wrists, my son is 6"1 with 71/4 inch wrists but these huge watch diameters are ridiculous.
Great review, and amazingly, after all the Ali specials, a watch I would buy, at that price. It gets the GMT and diver function right...
Just bought a rose gold pvd multifort big date. My mind's blown completely. Punches way above it's weight. Most definitely above Tissot
My wife just bought me that very exact same Ocean Star GMT for my birthday. And I agree that is one of the most handsome watches in the market. So glad you review it. Thanks, Jody..
NB: I also admit the main flaw of this watch is the size of the lume area on the hour & minute hands which are smaller than the lume on the markings/indices. The lume on the hour & minute hands should have been wider & longer, and much pronounced in the dark compare to those lumes of the markings.
I bought this watch a few weeks ago and just love it. I have a 7.25 inch wrist and I find 42 to 44 millimeters is my sweet spot. I was lucky to find a bracelet in Florida (the only one I could find in the US) but at $168 thought it was expensive for a bracelet with push pins. Yet, I was luck to get this watch for 35% off MSRP so that helped with the cost of the bracelet. I have other GMT watches but this is the only "true" GMT watch that I own. I think it is the best value in a Swiss made true GMT watch.
I live in mexico and i must say that if you work in a professional enviroment the mido commander is the watch to have, it symbolizes somekind of success and whats next to come.
Love the lugless commander chronometer on the beads of rice bracelet. Used to make it in 36mm but now in 37mm. This is the model I think of when anyone mentions Mido.
As a mexican watch channel, I can back up that MIDO is really popular in Mexico as you said Jody! Watching your video with my ocean star rose-gold! Cheers mate!
If you recall I proposed sending that exact watch to you to unbox and review. I'm glad you got your hands on one and gave it some proper scrutiny! I was curious to know how it did on the timegrapher though... Cheers mate!
I'm happy you reviewed a Mido, hope other youtube channels follow your example and show some other models too.
BTW, in minute 5:07 "two thousand and eighty nine us dollars" while it reads $1,089.00
The Ocean Star looks great but even with good lug to lug dimensions, the watch looks too big.
Great review as always 👍
Visited my grandpa days ago and discovered that he has a gold Mido Commander from sometime in the 1970s. I never handled an automatic watch being an user of Casio (therefore, quartz) myself, so it was pretty interesting to hear the rotor inside winding the mechanism and the "beats" between each second.
I've just bought a lovely two tone mido ocean star and titanium certina ds action diver. Incredible watches
Very nice watch. A lot of useful features for the price. The only downsides being the pin/sleeves bracelet links and the weak lume. Something a dive watch shouldn’t suffer from. The rainbow diver is the one I’d go for mind. But that was a limited edition I believe. Still, a very distinctive watch, that’s unique to Mido.
I’ve had my eye on this watch for quite some time. Amazing value in a GMT. Thanks for the awesome review
I own my MIDO Ocean Star GMT for almost one Year and I am still loving it. I think here in Europe MIDO is more popular than it is in your country.
Apparently they’re big in India too
what size wrist do you have? I honestly want to pull the trigger on this but I have skinny wrists and feel it would be TOO big. I have a Longines black pvd legend diver at 42mm and I feel that's pushing it. 44mm just seems like a tragic deal breaker for me but I'm praying the 50mm lug to lug will mitigate that issue for me. The Longines has a 52mm lug to lug.
@@flipdog69xxx I’ve got 180mm wrists and it looks great , remember the bezel makes the dial wear smaller, go for it, I also got an after market rubber strap from Gecko with a deployment clasp, prefer the look of this watch to my no date sub
@@santorini8423 I forgot to mention i have a 6.5in/165mm wrist. But yea, I'm hoping the 50mm lug to lug will make it work. I just love the fact it's a "true" GMT with a proper dive timing bezel AND date complication.
Sourced a rubber strap for my blue Ocean Star 200M and it’s an absolute gem. Wears very thin, 80hr power reserve, looks gorgeous in the light
I own a Mido Ocean Star in black and a Mido Baroncelli Heritage in rose gold. That crown on the Ocean Star with the large crown guards can appear to be screwed down when it is not. It is quite flat and heavy on the bracelet so it does not get the same wrist time as other pieces. But I love it and mine has screw links but no ceramic bezel.
I got the Baroncelli to fill the void of my grail wish, JLC Master Ultrathin in rose gold. Then I promptly chucked the Mido leather strap and put on a full grain leather strap. It is a fun, super thin piece. The off white dial does not match the white date wheel by a bit.
Fantastic looking watch! Why have we not heard of Mido before? Reminds me of an Oris somewhat. Thanks for bringing some of these lesser known brands to our attention.
I love my Mido dress watch. And I think this one is fantastic! Relatively affordable GMT. Very handsome. It's just too darn big for my 6.5 inch wrist. I do think it's an excellent, practical, well-made watch. I wish they made it in a smaller size.
Thanks for making this video. My father has severe dementia now and has been confined to a bed for 3 years. Still feisty though. but in his professional days he was a fan of this brand. He was a stock broker at a major Latin American bank in the 1960s. He was always impeccably dressed and actually had an arrangement with a suit label to wear their suits at the bank. So I assume he wore Mido dress watches as divers and suits is not a Latin American tradition. I'm going to try and source a vintage piece for him and I'm going to trade or sell one of my Squale for this 80 hour GMT.
I love my 38mm Mido Multifort Gentleman. If I lived elsewhere such as Europe, everyone would recognize and comment on it. Here in the United States, nobody's heard of them for the most part.
I just got one of these to replace my Hamilton office style gmt as my travel beater - great review looking forward to wearing the watch :D
I'm From Mexico and I can confirm the Mido presence here. It's a great watch at a good value, but I hardly ever hear anyone else talk about it on watch channels. The Ocean Star is my go to. They had this ocean star captain titanium a couple of years back that was amazing !
That is one of the most beautiful watches I've seen in a while! Stunning! My wedding watching is a mido baroncelli 2 subseconds and it's gorgeous. Love this watchmaker
I got a Mido commander ocean star, it's a fantastic watch. The GMT you reviewed is beautiful, anyway, when you're setting the hour hand, the gmt hand is vibrating in a weird way at every hour step @9:38. I don't know but it is not a sign of a top movement for me, I've seen a Vostok dualtime, doing something similar with the second hand. I really hoped for a more stable movement, considering the price! Thank you for sharing!
My Mido Multifort is COSC, 80 hr power reserve, silicon balance spring, Elonflex main spring, has a beautiful Geneva stripe dial and cost just £800 ...Swatch gives Mido chops and this watch is by far the best bang for buck watch in my entire collection. Love it. Find one and review it. You'll love it too.
I’ve loved their Ocean Star aesthetic for years, particularly the blue variant and grey/orange variant. Woulda bought one years ago if they offered a complementing line at 38-39mm diameter. Kinda figured by now they woulda expended back into the modest sizes as well as these larger ones.
I was about to write exactly the same. This watch in 38-39mm would be just perfect. Can you think of an alternative: CW or Baltic or perhaps something else?
@@Handler9 I have been quite happy with the Maen Hudson with Ronda automatic movement. They had an earlier batch with STP movements, and the STP was awful - repeated quality issues. They transitioned to Ronda, and replaced my STP with Ronda, and it has been fine.
Alot of the Certina's on Chrono are in France, Mido were better known in the vintage market because of the Ocean Star and a famous multi hand Chrono way back when. Thats a handsome watch and looks way better here than on their website🤣 Ideal watch for a man who dives on annual leave every year
Great review. Really appreciate the research and work that goes in to providing us with a rounded view and context. Going that extra mile helps you to stand out from the 'cookie-cutter' review crowd. Kudos Jody.
I just got the Red Bull Cliff Diving Edition and all I can say for now is that it is gorgeous. You are right Mido is popular in Mexico (where I live) but is considered quite an affordable luxury brand just as Tissot. Hamilton is a little more expensive. By the way I paid a little more than $1000.00 USD for the watch.
I have this exact GMT and I put in on the blue Mido strap with deployment clasp.
I have two black dial Ocean Stars one on black rubber and one on the SS bracelet.
My Mido SS bracelet absolutely has screw links. It is a great bracelet.
recently bought the ocean star captain V, caliber 80, and am blown away by it. great post, jody. thanks!
Love these watches, I sooooo want one. Not in blue, thank you. When you start listing the value points on this watch, it almost gets a little ridiculous. Start with a Swiss-made automatic GMT movement with an 80 hour power reserve, and then just go from there. The use of the 60 minute bezel adds awesome utility, this is a tool watch. A refined-looking tool watch, but a tool for sure. Me love mucho.
Beauiful watch, well-conceived - the hour-hand-only adjustment is brilliant - and I love the detail of the GMT hand matching the blue in the bezel. I like the (nylon?) canvas strap so much I wouldn't bother with the bracelet.
Cool! I own 3 Mido's - all from the AFAIK now discontinued All-Dial line..... Love them. My grail watch was a Mido All-Dial Chronograph in titanium, which uses the Valjoux 7750 movement. By the time I had the $$$ to buy it, it was discontinued and I hunted down a pristine used one. Generally, I like bezel-less divers (don't dive, seems useless, takes up face space). Recently bought a cheap used Mido chronometer as a daily. They are very popular in Asia (Philippines, Thailand, HK, Malaysia, etc.).
IMHO, all of the Swatch Group brands that use ETA movements are pretty much equivalent, which you choose is largely a matter of taste and the movement/case finishing will be driven by price.
Yes I am in México and Mido sell very well here. I do own ocean star and I love it. Great vídeo.
I've got a Mido as my every day watch, the 8830 - not much about it exists online bar a couple of reviews, and mine was bought second hand, looks like the original buyer was in Thailand. It's a great watch with an ETA 2824, and looks amazing on a black leather strap. I believe they are also quite popular in SE asia - thailand, indonesia etc
When I was visiting Thailand and Cambodia, many of the lesser prevalent Swatch Group brands like Mido and Certina were super popular. Every mall and big department store had them in the cases. Where I live in California, I've never seen any swatch brand except Tissot, Hamilton, Rado, and Longines, and even then very rarely are they ever advertised the way they are outside the U.S. I'd see 1 or 2 of their flagship models like the Captain Cook or Seastar. I've never seen a Mido at any big box department store yet.
Mexican here... Mido is to Mx what Tissot/Hamilton is in the US. Pretty much the best positioned swiss brand on the lower end.
I like the MIDO Miltiforth. Around $1000, there aren't many COSC-certified watches and I respect MIDO for having ones. Initially, I was going to buy a seiko cocktail time, hamilton khaki field or Marathon General purpose, but as soon as I found out what a chronometer is, I made my mind. I'm gonna buy a MIDO Multifort.
Jody, great video. I’ve been keeping an eye on the mido ocean star 200c which is a very budget friendly alternative to the omega seamaster professional 300, would love to see your review.
Thanks for this review. I was really interested in getting this watch a while back. It's a true travelers GMT watch. But, the size of the watch is a little bit too big I think especially with such a flat bottom for my 6.875 in wrist. Otherwise I probably would have bought this watch a while back.
Finally you do a Mido!! Glad someone is giving them some shine. Great brand. Great watches.
I Love this Watch. The Dive Bezel, with the GMT rehaut is a great combination I think. It is slightly large but not too large. I looked at the Tudors in an AD the other Day and they all looked Too small.
Nice review mate. Love your content
Oh man, why isn’t this brand more popular? This is a very compelling watch. Their other models are very nice as well. Thanks for putting Mido on my radar.
You should review the Certina DS action diver 38 mm. I think this watch will be as popular as the Sarb 033 some day.
I'll check it out mate, for sure.
38mm. I’m checking that out.
Great dimensions, I'll also check it out 😊
Not sure about that, it’s basically a Sub homage, no real character of its own. The DS PH200M is pretty cool though.
I have had Certina DS diver on my list for a while, love the titanium, but its just too big lug to lug with the bracelet, like 52-55 mm.
Nice review! Looking at this online, it goes for 1,150€ where I live and the non GMT has different versions. Well worth a look, methinks.
Cheers, Jodie.
Yes. Mido in Mexico is very popular, there are Mido boutiques and the brand has been around forever. I remember my grandfather always his gold Commander.
Nice point. Looks like a great timepiece to me.
Thanks for pointing this, I also think that Mido deserves more lights compare to others for what they’re doing.
It's a nice watch, here in Switzerland Mido is very present.
Certina use Powermatic 80 also ;)
Very nice review, you should try the Ocean Star, fantastic watch exept male endlink, its thinner than the GMT, and the lume is Bbgw9.. And i have had the Tribute to, very good to, but smaller.. Thanks
