I agree 100%. I have a Mido Ocean Star and an Oris Aquis, both with rubber straps and I cannot tell enough difference between them to justify the cost difference. Mido is an excellent choice for value.
I have a yacht-master, seamaster, and a couple of Grand Seikos. But I can't stop myself from looking back at Mido. Their catalogue is so appealing, and I can't stop thinking about the Mido Ocean star anniversary ⌚
I agree that Mido and Certina are underrepresented Swatch Group brands that I need to consider before my next purchase. The good thing about their neglect is that they can often be found for good prices on the grey market. Thank you Bruce 😊👍
Hello Bruce. Love your channel. The movement here is not COSC certified, that would be in the diver 600 with silicone balance spring. This one is adjusted in 3 positions I think. Another interesting preposition is the ocean star tribute with the mesh bracelet, that one is a beauty.
I've worn this watch for the past four Summers and I can't sing it's praises more highly. It is in the area of functionality where it really shines. The bracelet is super great quality for the price pint.Very ergonomic with micro adjustment which allows the watch to be worn in any situation.I think Mido is Europes version of Hamilton
I have this watch. Great band, comfortable, and the micro adjustment is great. Mine runs about 3 seconds fast every day and I am happy with that. One thing rarely mentioned is that the dial for all practical reasons has TWO colours, navy and that gorgeous steel blue. That gorgeous steel blue kind of just pops up frequently when the light is just right. In low light, you see more a navy colour. I really love the watch!
Great review, Bruce, thank you. Extremely tempting. Not crazy about day window on a dive watch, but the value! Wow, think it gives similar priced Prospex strong competition.
I think this is the most beautiful diver on the market today (and there are many to choose from). My Citizen diver from the mid 90s still runs like a charm and I really have no need for another watch, but I want it.
I have had one of these Mido 200 divers for the last year as my daily beater. I’ve put it through hell and it hasn’t missed a beat. Other than a small crown that’s a pain it’s a pretty solid watch for under $1k
Hi I’ve been considering buying this one as my daily beater but was concerned about it’s durability. How does this compare in toughness to say a seiko diver?
finally a mido review :) very well done bruce! not too sure about that chronometer fact though. i had the titanium version of it and don't believe it was a certified chronometer. if you're looking for a chronometer and a ceramic insert bezel you should go for the mido ocean star diver 600. but that would be almost double the price then ;)
nice review. One thing to clarify though for the viewers. The chronometer version of this watch or movement is clearly labeled as chronometer, and it is the ocean star 600 chronometer which runs at almost twice the retail of the ocean star 200. The 200 is not a chronometer and probably the source of confusion arises from Mido's web site for the 200 where they say that the caliber 80 comes in a chronometer variation, but that does not imply that this specific watch is a chronometer. The chronometer movement is (base ETA C07.821) COSC and the movement on this watch is (base ETA C07.621)
I own the 600 diver version as well as the Rose gold on the black rubber. Awesome watches for the price. They get as much wrist time as my Tudor and Rolex's. Best part is the 80 hr Power Reserve.
Hi Bruce, I have this watch, love it and have worn it for the better part of 3 years at this point. Just a quick comment about your review... the movement is not COSC certified on this model. It is laser adjusted in 3 positions and the bezel is not a 120 click bezel but rather 60 clicks. You are correct however in that it is an aluminum bezel. Others have commented on your pronunciation and it is MEE DOH contrary to the way you pronounced it.
Looks better to me than the ultra-busy looking Longines Hydroconquest. Day-date seems to fit here. I love the 80 hour reserve which you see in Tissot as well. 42.5 is not huge.
Nice review, for the price the Midi certainly hits hard. Recently I've been looking at the Oris Chronoris Date as a bit of oddball to pick up so a review of that would be very convenient!
Ticks a lot of boxes and nice to see a day-date Swiss diver. Is great to see a sub $1,000 Swiss watch with a COSC movement but I kind of miss your old Seiko videos.
Bruce...Oris and Mido get compared a lot...so what is in your opinion is a better brand overall in terms of quality, movement, finishing etc? Really appreciate your input
Hi Bruce, I was hoping that you were gonna review the new Mido ocean star gmt with new jumping hour caliber (not standard 2893-2). I would love to see this supposedly new true gmt outside Rolex and Tudor GMT. Keep up the good work.
I Iike aluminum bezels because they fade and pick up character over time, I think of them as the classic option. Ceramic would look nice and perhaps compliment the skeleton hands, but I like this watch the way it is.
Hi Bruce. I follow your channel and I own this watch. I believe the rotating bezel is actually 60 clicks. And i agree with another comment. The 600 version is the chronometer, this one is not. I love the watch though. The blue colors plays great with the light.
I have a Mido Ocean Star in Titanium w/ an orange rubber strap. it carries the same adjustable clasp & i think the pop of color w/ the orange rubber & orange pops on a muted gray dial looks good. When you add Titanium, solid finishing, 80 hrs power reserve & the skeletonized hands doing well not to obscure the Day Date window in use. I'd say Mido hits out out of the park for Value & Quality & certainly an undervalued watch company. i also have a Mido Belluna (version 1) that's got hints of Glaschutte Originals PanoReserve in it's design asthetic & look more impressive for the $700 you pay for them.
Very nice watch. Thanks for the review Bruce. I am particularly interested in the Mido Ocean Star Diver 600 (M026.608.11.041.00) version. If you could review it as well that would be great.
Decent alternative to the Tissot SeaStar. Probably an excellent deal on the per-owned market, as you get a lot of good stuff from a Swatch group watch brand. But I’d save up a bit more and buy the sexier green dial Longines Hydroconquest
Great review. I have one just like this one and its such an underrated watch. Also, you mispronounced the name. It's Mido in spanish (meedo) as the name is derived from the spanish phrase "Yo mido" (I measure).
I've always like Mido, but I've never pulled the trigger on one. Perhaps because Oris or Sinn, or Fortis, or a number of other brands which are equal to or while slightly more expensive, offered more for what I was looking for. Now that most of these brands have been steadily increasing their pricing...think Seiko..I will likely take another look at Mido again. Would I rather buy a Seiko Sumo or Mido? I'm thinking Mido might win this choice. Mido is in a tough price category
you just contradicted yourself tho. You would pay more for watches that provided more. Mido is perfect for those that don't want to spend another $1000 on functions that is not needed
The Mido, as well as the Tissot Seastar, one 42.5 mm the other 43 mm, could have a model with a smaller diameter, or 42, 41 mm, Rolex does that very well. Tissot and Mido are fantastic watches too.
How durable would you say this watch is? I’m looking for my first “ nice “ watch. First auto. I was set on the sinn104, but this watch caught my eyes, And It’s less expensive. I just want to know how it holds up to the sinn104.

At a glance the dial and the bazel don’t have the ‘Wow’ factor and as the matter of fact it’s kinda dull looking. It just doesn’t connect to me like Sinn104 for example. Thank you for sharing.
Odds that you'll review the Mido Ocean Star GMT? Seems like a "too good to be true" travel/beach vacation watch. A "true GMT" at just over 1k seems crazy - as most "jumping GMT hand" watches start around 2k.
I think it is attractive but at the same time very generic in its look. Which is kind of a shame because Mido has recently had some pretty interesting and different releases. Such as the Ocean Star decompression timer.
First, the movement is an ETA 2836-2 modified. Second, this movement is not (COSC) certified. You need to do your research before making a video of a watch. 💯 I know this because i own a Mido Ocean Star.
Skeletonized hands and lack of a proper screw-in caseback (caseback is secured by several screws) make this a deal breaker. The larger 43.5mm version in Titanium fixes both these issues but it needed to be smaller not bigger.
The skeletonized hands have a function 😅 because then you will still be able to read the daydate window! So thats perfect. Do not understand your criticism.. furthermore the crown is very well protected. Love it
This video is full of misleading lies. This watch is NOT COSC certified, does NOT have a 120 click bezel rather it has a 60 click bezel and the bezel is aluminum and NOT ceramic. The Tissot SeaStar 2000 professional blows this Mido out of the water as well as any other diver watch for less than 1000 dollars.
It seems funny to me that people "need" a ceramic bezel and sapphire glass, etc. What we all need is a watch we like to wear. Not a watch that doesn't show that we wear it. The concerns about these watch details are misplaced. If the watch you will actually wear the crap out of has an aluminum bezel and a plexi crystal then buy that one. No one will care that it is not a ceramic bezel or sapphire crystal. If you have a watch that wears the battle scars and continues to work and look bad ass, then you have won. If the watch says Rolex or Omega or Oris on it, you have really won because you have worn something fully in the moment and not been worrying about the damn watch and its value. People admire watches that show their age and use. The resale market doesn't. But why did you buy the watch? To make a love connection? Or to sell it on after not really doing anything with it? All I look around and see on watch forums is a crapload of watches that people don't wear but they wear out their keyboards talking about what they "need" in a watch when a perfectly good one is already in their possession. And truth be told, a few years ago I would have told you to piss off if you said to me that I needed to spend $1000 on a watch to get one that I could enjoy and take daily hard use. Because I had one on my wrist that was $45 and I really liked it. Chances are that if you are sitting around making a list of what you need in a watch you will never be satisfied. Because what we really will bond with is not usually logical. If I were to look at my own path rationally and logically, I was better off before I started to thinking about making a list of the features I needed in a watch. Buy the watch or watches you are attracted to and wear them. All the time. So much that you forgey they are on your wrist. Then the watch has value because it is part of you and your life. A watch sitting in a watchbox is just money allocated and not used. The bank and the money market are better places for it to do that: to do nothing but to hold or gain value over time.
When I buy anything I make a list of what my requirements for the item are, then weigh the options based on the my requirements. To me buying something just because of its looks is silly, and a great way to spend more in the end as the item fails to meet your needs.

Even a cheap Victorinox is in harmony, geometrically. No expert here, just bitter critic after bought so many and very few are actually good, well built.
I don't think this is a good watch. Seiko is way better than this.
Good joke😂
