    I bought a few months ago the blue version of this watch and I love it! Been a true gmt for this amount of money is a huge plus, the movement is very accurate, the case is well finished! This is a great choice for the “check all the boxes” collector because its a functional dive watch but the GMT also allows it to serve as an excellent Vacation/Travelers watch. Also, it’s not super expensive or rare, so you wouldn’t have to worry too much about it being stolen or lost while on vacation.

      That was exactly what I am thinking when I bought this watch to be a daily beater/travel watch. It has everything! Great looks, features and build quality at a price that makes you really wear the hell out of the watch instead of keeping it in a safe,

    • @jorgemtrevino

      Furthermore, diving usually involves traveling --except if you live where you dive. OTOH, I wouldn't use mine as a dive watch save as a backup; it's too fine a watch. Computer watches like Suunto D5 are very travel friendly and manage your dives very well. I should say it's more a _statement_ (like in "I'm a diver") than what one would use to manage an immersion.

      Exactly!! I was looking for EXACTLY this as a do it all watch, since any time I travel I end up in the water. But this thing is beautiful enough to wear to dinner later that night. 2 years after this video is released and it’s still the only automatic GMT diver I e found under $1k. This is looking like my next watch.

    I have the blue nylon strap model with blue bezel. Simply perfect in every way. I also bought the bracelet and love it even more. The extension “on the fly” its the best in the market so far in my opinion. Doesn’t feel that big really, and I absolutely loved the fact that they kept the “diver bezel” More functional in my opinion than the 24 click one. And you have that inner bezel with the 24 hour so for me it’s a win win.

    I purchased my Mido GMT this month (March 2022) and I like it better than my Seiko watches I have. My Mito GMT keeps better time (+ 4 SPD) than any automatic watch I have in my collection. I’ve had the orange and black on the bracelet for a while now. It’s fabulous, love it, very versatile and accurate. It’s in my regular rotation, and probably my most frequently worn watch. It is large but it does wear smaller than I thought it would on my 7 1/4 inch wrist. Love this piece, I’m thinking of getting the Blue version for a NATO strap to take diving and serve as my beater watch while travelling. Nice one Mido, this watch is amazing value.

  • @gregorypease213
    @gregorypease213 2 роки тому +8

    The size - yes, it's a big watch, but on my 19cm/7.5" wrist, which seems to be pretty average, it would likely be acceptable, but like many commenters, I'd prefer 40mm. My biggest gripe here is the AR coating applied to the outside of the crystal. While the sapphire itself won't scratch easily, the coating will, and over time, it will likely wear poorly, resulting in a splotchy appearance. I'd much rather deal with the slightly greater reflectivity of an uncoated outer surface. It's a watch, not a camera lens.

  • @pgricar

    So much discussion about this 44 vs. 40 mm pain. I have MIDO Ocean Star on silver bracelet and it wears just perfect. I like the watch to have a presence on man's wrist. According to me, this is one incredibly beautiful watch, with amazing ceramic bezel, glossy black dial seen through anti reflective sapphire glass, quality bracelet with fine clasp - and all these wrapped with a true GMT mechanism (max. 4s/day) and 80 hours power reserve (!) into a Swiss made package for not more than 950 EUR. To be honest - I am a SEIKO fan for years, but I couldn't find a comparable, high quality, eye catching watch of this size (44mm) in 2022 from Seiko. So I picked this Swiss beauty, and I love it all the way. Price performance - hat off.

    Hello sir, I know my opinion is a little late to the party looking at the date of your review, I do find you give great opinions and the watches you review are for the everyday, which to me are the best watches. I purchased my MIDO OCEAN STAR GMT BLUE VERSION back on 9/18/2020 and it wasn't in the USA yet, so I searched for it in CHRONO24 and I found an A.D. out of Germany. (Now the watch is all over the US). I must say I love the watch , I rank it equal in love as my other GMT watches.
    Two (2) Glycine Airman 42mm Black dial/ 44mm White dial, 2020 Tudor BB GMT & 2016 Rolex Batman. I find the MIDO more to the equal of the Tudor brand in my opinion. So since owning this watch about year of wear. I had to have the watch serviced. due to the HOUR hand stopped moving, upon return from service the watch wasn't manual winding so I had to send it back again. Swatch group told me they extended my warranty by two more years after service. I was ok with that. So let's zoom forward to today , I rotate wearing my watches so each watch I wear about a week or so unless I have a special event and then I go to a more dress/formal watch. Yesterday I went to set my MIDO and found out now the SECOND HAND is no longer working. I have written to MIDO and told them of my past issues and so far they sent me a return shipping label pre-paid, to send in for service . I also suggested if this is going to happen ever year or so I would like they to replace the watch with a new one, but I know this is a fantasy. I was told on another review that the earlier versions of this watch had issues, I guess I am unlucky and got one of those watches. I hope they fix the problem. Because I am not ready to take it out of my rotation, But what's funny is I purchased the watch as a travel/beater watch to destinations you don't feel safe wear the pride and joy watches, Once I started wearing this watch I really 100% enjoyed and would be very upset to stop wearing it, It really has a nice presence on your wrist and great conversation piece too. Again thanks for the videos and a place to vent lolololol. All the best.

    Almost everything about this watch is perfect. Fantastic build quality, well-priced and good looking. The one thing that is devastatingly wrong though is the hands. The GMT hand is far too large for its function as a secondary complication. It should be much more discrete. The skeletonizing of the minute hand reduces its legibility even in broad daylight. Viewing the time in the dark is almost impossible. The huge lume section on the GMT hands obscures the applied markers, and the lume potion of the minute hand gets completely lost in front of the markers, and is outshone by the GMT lume. I bought this watch because I like Mido, they are good watches, and I needed a diver/GMT for my diving trips abroad, but I’ve found that I don’t like it much because of it’s legibility.

    Would surely consider this as it's a beauty, if my wrist size could have taken it.
    However, something irks me. Is it an optical illusion or are some of the digits on the bezel slightly skewed? To my eyes the two digits in each pair appear slightly misaligned. Is it difficult to precision-engrave two digits next to each other so that they line up? Not taking a pop specifically at MIDO, as I perceive this in pictures of dive bezels on many different watches, and even with some of my own watches. Examples which (to me) appear to do it "right" are Omega Seamaster and Christopher Ward C60, as they have deliberately followed the curvature of the bezel.

    • @gregorypease213
      @gregorypease213 2 роки тому

      Noticed the same thing. I think it's an illusion caused by the raised indices. Straight on, things look fine, but as you look off axis, parallax makes the GMT indication appear out of alignment.

    Make this at 40mm and you'd have them flying off the shelves. As it is...Dive sized watch...GMT's are supposed to be as 'everyday' as you can get while being as versatile as situations you encounter during travel. Perhaps you already made your decision - anyway, I have MIDO Ocean Star GMT(M026.629.11.051.01) - accuracy + 4 s/day (1 year of use), 80 hours power reserve is a luxury. Very satisfied. Unfortunately I do not own any Oris, so I can not compare those.

    This is stunning, but just too big at 44. At 40 this would be perfect. It looks a tad big on you as well. Such a shame manufacturers are still churning out these oversized cases. It limits their market to guys over 7.5 inch wrists.

    I get this watch the new one “Pepsi” just few days ago Oct 07, 2022
    This watch hits far above than its weight class: jumping hour, ceramic bezel, steel 316L beautifully finished, silicon hairspring and an incredible precision +1.3 seconds a day.
    I comprare this watch easily with Rolex GMT II and Omega Seamaster.
    MIDO just create a winner here and the best bargain

    I don't get why they make these so big?? Their Hoodinkee one is like 40.5mm, they can obviously make them a more wearable size.

    Very cool watch but 44mm is just too big for regular wear. At least for me. 42mm would've been perfect.

      I’ve heard it wears like a 42mm due to curved lugs and shorter comparative lug to lug

    The only gripe i have is same markers for 12 and 6, and not only that: if the two squares are alligned just a bit off it's totally annoying. They should've gone for one square at six and a circle at twelve. Otherwise superb watch!
    Why a circle at twelve - i just like mathematics, and involving all basic shapes, squares, triangle, circle, would be so much more pleasing to me. You could argue that watch is round itself, but i'm talking indices. And twelve should always be distinct.

    I like pretty much everything about this watch except for the fact that they kept the diver bezel. In my opinion a GMT watch should have a GMT bezel.

      I would also prefer the 24 hour bezel but this watch is first and foremost a diver. I can't count how many times I've been on a dive and suddenly wondered what the date was and what time it was in Mongolia :) It is a wonderful watch though.

      I guess, depends on a personal preference for the watch size. I am tall with 17cm/7 inch wrist, and I find the size of Ocean Star perfect. But I am inclined towards slightly larger watches. I have Seiko Samurai diver (44mm) and Seiko Astron (45mm), enjoying both of them.

      @Gilbert Gamboa Hi, Gilbert, I can compare MIDO Ocean Star GMT to my Seiko Samurai SRPB51 (standard, non-King version). Ocean Star is slightly larger lug to lug, and also the bezel and dial optically looks a little larger than Samurai. But not too large at all. Very well balanced size for a man who likes the watch to have a presence on the wrist. Adding the nice and reflective ceramic bezel on Ocean Star, incredibly good anti-reflective coating on sapphire glass (this I can only compare to my Seiko ASTRON), much nicer signed crown sitting inside well fit guards, plus an eye-catching orange GMT hand, all this gives a way more luxurious look over the Samurai. Ocean STAR GMT with its ETA movement is even more accurate than my Seiko MM300 SBDX023 ordered recently directly from Japan (which should be top with its 8L35 movement), and 80 hours of power reserve in MIDO is a luxury for weekend breaks. All after all, very nice looking watch, good fit and finish, no complaint after after a year of use. Regarding the size: I think MIDO Ocean Star comes in different sizes - mine GMT model is MIDO M026.629.11.051.01 and has 44mm diameter. Should fit perfect to someone who wears Seiko Samurai and Sumo, which are considered to be on a larger side. Best regards, Primoz
