  • I just tried Huel's "Hot & Savory" meals in a bag. It has more vitamins and minerals than a typical "real" healthy meal. Does it mean I'm giving up on "cooked" food for good?

    First video I've seen of you, perfectly presented. It's not easy putting information together in a concise and digestable format, so you're a credit to society, well done.

    I have to say as a personal trainer, what you do is so helpful, because I know clients will ask about products like these and being able to have a decent review already done instead of having to track one down or try the product myself

    I don't know what products were available in your area at the time of this review but as an office worker I have found huel shakes invaluable.
    Using half a portion to replace snacks and breakfast has kept my diet much cleaner on busy work days but even at home they have been useful.
    The new mac and cheeze savoury meal has been very useful for my later shift work as a main meal.
    The only downside is they are half the size per pack than the shakes.
    I don't like any of the other savoury options but I do find it easier to plan real meals around these products.
    Overall I feel much healthier and cost wise I'm buying less rubbish from the supermarket. It does feel cost effective

    Great review, as always. You really do some great, informative reviews. I am intrigued by this product as I transition my diet and start eliminating some things - this could almost help me reset. Keep up the great work. PS - How about a review of one of the food sensitivity blood tests, like EverylyWell or EquiLife? 👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽

    Thanks for taking the time to make this review. I did wonder why you had to experiment with the amount of water to use as it does say to use 210ml of water in the instructions on each bag. Alternatively there is also a fill line on the inside of the supplied black mixing pot, so you don't have to measure water out if you don't want to.

    • @FitnessFinance4u
      @FitnessFinance4u  2 роки тому +2

      Tej...thanks for watching. I saw and tried using Huel's fill line in order to add the right amount of water, but it didn't seem to work right for me. Way too much water. So I had to spend a few meals figuring it out. I have it down now. I know people's tastes are different, and some may like it with more or less water. I like it with less water than they recommend.

    I'm curious about your opinion that freeze dried food doesn't qualify as 'real' food and has different absorption characteristics than non-freeze dried food.
    What would make you believe that?
    Ultimately, this stuff isn't much different than many of the freeze dried 'camping' or 'survival' food preparations available on the market.

    • @FitnessFinance4u
      @FitnessFinance4u  2 роки тому +2

      Oath Keeper, I looked through the video to double check, but couldn't find where I might have said "freeze dried food doesn't qualify as real food". In regards to absorption characteristics, I think it would have been better if I had said "cooked food" instead of "real food". Freeze dried food certainly is "real food". That being said, it seems that the articles I have read about "freeze dried" food vs cooked food have said "freeze dried food" does lose about 2-3% of it's nutrients because of the freeze drying process and "cooked food" can be easier to digest.

    I had the same tasteless experience at first with a couple flavors. It turns out shaking the bag wasn’t enough. I dig in and really stirred the bag with a wooden spoon. Soooo much different. So much tastier!

    They also say to make sure you shake the bag up really well and mix the dry product really well before you scoop it because the seasonings tend to settle.

    • @FitnessFinance4u
      @FitnessFinance4u  2 роки тому +1

      Yes...good reminder as it seems the "dry product", which I think is the flavoring, drops to the bottom of the bag after every use.

    First time in this channel. May I ask why your carbs are so low? As far as I know, research so far links longevity with a carbs-rich diet. In fact, people in the "Blue zones" (areas with special high longevity) consume a lot of carbs. Why did you choose in your diet more fats and less carbs?

    as any backpacker can tell you, you always always always start with less water than recommended and let it 'soak' for longer than recommended. this ensures it's doesn't get watered down and it fully rehydrates. as you learned, there is always trial and error with this. (btw, this is true even if you make your own dehydrated foods at home)
    good info, but everything's relative, right? so are you comparing this against real food, or against other freeze dried options? i don't know huel's target audience but would venture that it's a quick meal option for the fitness minded within civilization, meaning not backpackers or preppers. so flavor quality/options should be weighed against that, or real food.
    btw, i found my way here cuz i'm interested in trying huel for the first time myself. like all freeze dried options, my thought is that it wll be fine, but i'll eventually go back to a banana+avocado+wheat bread for quick meals.

      @ekim7962, it would be interesting to hear what a backpacker thinks about this? I am not one, so this freeze dried stuff is new to me. I was comparing it to "real food" to see if it had the same nutrients if someone was in a "pinch" and didn't have time to make a full meal.

    It’s good at the hospital. It’s impossible to eat healthy food at the hospital, especially if you have diabetes. I swear the food service people at hospitals are trying to kill folks. I have to bring food. Glucerna has slow release carbs but only has 180 calories. Huel drinks and those freeze dried meals each have 400 calories. I have pancreatic cancer and am dropping weight like crazy. It’s definitely not low fiber and low residue like I will need for a while if the chemo shrinks my tumor enough for the Whipple surgery. But for now when I need lots of smaller meals I like the calories and nutrition. If you are having a hard time eating and often can’t hold it down everything you consume aside from water needs to be nutrient dense and it’s not a bad idea to add nutrients to your water. There is a place for these types of easy to prepare meals and shakes that are nutritionally complete. I wouldn’t want them all the time but they make a quick healthy meal that won’t spike your blood sugar much. They’re good for something quick at the office or if you’re home alone and don’t feel like cooking something complicated for one or going out and trying to find something healthy to eat.

    So, wow....ummm do not use this method of making it. Use a microwave safe bowl. put in your ingredients, then the water, stir, microwave for 90 seconds, stir, 90 more seconds, stir and cover and let it sit for 5 minutes. You can add some more water if it is too thick after you have made it. I have had a Cajun pasta, Mac-N-Cheese, Pasta Bolognese. They are all very good. I am sorry but doing the way he made it will not help in any way. The Cajun is my favorite. Do not use the plastic cup they send, it has a strange that the food absorbs. But trust me, use a bowl even if you heat the water the old fashion way. I just want to say that his view on this isn't great i think. Give it a try.

    Their scope are not accurate use a scale to measure your meal
    97 g + 210 ml water
    And just cook it in a regular bowl and use foil to cover it
