The Huel Ecosystem: A Normal Person's Overview

  • I thought it finally worth making a full overview of the whole Huel ecosystem - all the products they're making at the moment, so people can compare and contrast which they'd like, and which will suit them best. Essentially, they all try to offer the same basic premise, vegan, nutrionally balanced food replacement, but they vary in the calorie, carbohydrate and protein content, and what form they come in. I think it's fair to say some work better than others, but everyone will have their preference, I just wanted to present my thoughts.
As always, I'm not representing, nor do I work for the company, I have paid for all these products with my own money and I do my best to make sure the only bias in the videos is my own...

Huel has been a life saver for me, After bowel cancer in 2018 and 40% of my colon removed, food was a challenge it caused so many issues over the last 3 years, I've been on Huel for 10 days now and for the first time I can sleep through the night, and eat balanced.

Just want to say thanks for this "Round Up" type video. Its actually really helpful and nice hearing your more generalized opinion of the product after having tried its various forms throughout several years. I have been bombarded with Huel ads on YT for awhile now, and eventually... they got to me and I looked into the product purely out of curiosity. You were the only person that I could easily find that took a grounded, and REAL approach to their review of the product. I don't want some sexy money grubbing influencer yelling at me about HOW AMAZING AND LIFE CHANGING Huel is (not that you aren't sexy; you pull off the smooth-top-bearded look nicely), I want a proper review of this food/drink done in a realistic and relatable fashion, and you have delivered. Thanks again!

I love that for a student, it's an affordable way of eating while knowing I'm not giving up on nutritions - it's far better than most other quick foods. And I personally really like the flavour of the shakes, but yeah, especially for people like me, it's very annoying that there's no sample pack so I could try it before I buy the full bag. The supermarkets near me only sell the basic flavours of the bottles and I don't feel like buying two "variety boxes" of bottles for £72 just to know if I'd like some specific flavour 🙃

For me huel is better and easier because I would have a burger or pizza or something else bad for lunch so I’m using it to eat healthier and less and I am losing a little bit of weight so far and so far I am happy with it and I live in Denmark 🇩🇰 and the only way to get it here is to order it online what I know about and 2 bags of huel 3.0 white bag and 3 bags of hot and savory is 1150 danish crowns so about 130 British pounds for one month but I would use more money on pizza and other stuff if I didn’t buy huel

That is precisely my thought - it may not be perfect, and i know some people have concerns about it, but frankly, it has to be better than over eating/ eating the wrong things! Glad it's going well for you.

@N P What people are concerned about is that this isn't "traditional" food. I tend to agree on both sides. I'd rather eat egg n bacon and veggies etc etc, for breakfast and a cooked homemade meal for lunch. But I understand the convenience and practicality with hot n savoury. For those who over eat or eat the wrong things. Everyone has time and CAN cook a easy healthy meal, but this work if you just CAN'T do it.

Your Huel videos have been immensely useful to me. I was just diagnosed with celiac and looking for gluten free alternatives to the mug shot noodles I used to eat for a quick lunch a lot. Huel seemed like it might be one of the better priced options for this specific case, and I have tried and am satisfied with what they are for the purpose I wanted them to serve. I am considering trying some of the shakes, but I'm not quite sure yet where those would fit into my diet, so need to think about it some more.

Great video I’ve just recently got into Huel I bought the hot and savoury I tried the premade drinks in the supermarkets and really like them I must say the hot and savoury impress me a lot I bought the Mac and cheese Thai green curry chicken and mushroom and Bolognese the Bolognese is really really good impress me greatly And I really did look forward to having it you’re right though the expense is the biggest problem but I think it will be part of my life in some structure love your videos thanks for making them

Thanks for the information! Very helpful.
I have started on the white powder and mix it with milk, and am liking it so far.
I wouldn't say it is delicious, but certainly not bad..kinda grows on you. (Salted Caramel)
Sadly there are fewer variations available in my country and some of the tastes are different (less fibre for some reason) but hopefully they will expand in the near future.
The best thing is that you know exactly what it is you are eating, and it is quick and easy to make. Can't go too wrong with it.

Excellent introduction to Huel, many thanks. I’ve subscribed today and looking forward to using it as a means to lose weight. The money I otherwise spend on take aways, alcohol and eating out should take care of the initial layout of £123.50 (Bestseller Bundle plus 3 x Hot and savoury meals). I was able to get £5 off with an online code, but agree that the lack of ability to have a proper sample pack is potentially very wasteful and notice that there are many people on EBay selling their unwanted purchases. I purchased directly from Huel as there’s every chance that some could potentially be selling counterfeit products.
I’ve subscribed to your channel too 👍

In my eyes the biggest difference when it comes to White or Black Powder, Black uses Stevia and White Sucralose as sweetener. I found the taste difference is quite big, especially chocolate tastes completely different. I personally prefer the white version when it comes to texture and taste.

I've found the ready made drinks absolutely ideal for breakfast.
It gives me more time for chores & walking the dogs in the morning. Which overall saves me more time than you'd think.
On top of that using them for breakfast & occasionally one of the bars for lunch has helped me lose a bit of weight, I have less desire to snack & my energy levels have improved. I'm pleasantly very surprised. I honestly thought it was one of those internet fad things that turn out kinda crap.
I would say though avoid the raspberry black bar. None of the black bars are particularly nice but that one is like eating soap.

A scoop or two of vanilla with a spoonful or two with honey is perfect for me. It's not too grainy the thinner it is. I have one scoop in the morning for breakfast. The second scoop is a separate meal with a salad I get at work.

May I ask, what is the texture of the Huel Protein like? I use per4m whey currently which is like silk but I would like to switch to plant based. I am a little scared however has optimum nutrition's vegan protein was very gritty.

I'm preparing to make an order of Huel when payday comes around. I'm tempted to get both the black and white gluten free versions so mix and match across the month. I currently use a vegan protein powder in my porridge each morning, so I'm pretty used to weird texture and taste lol. I have tried the ready-made drinks, and they were OK, the chocolate one had a slightly odd, waxy texture which the berry one didn't. I really wish they would make the pasta in the hot & savoury gluten free too...that's a massive oversight to the product.

Not sure which is better to go for the black or the white as they both have same ingredients and similar protein levels which will hopefully help me feel full without reaching for snacks and junk food. The coffee powder was probably made by someone who has never drank coffee in his life. I'd like to meet the tasting guy from Huel to see what he looks like.

      Hey Nightingale,
I have Huel phases every now and then when I get annoyed with cooking and preparing meals. I always order the plain powder (Black) because all the other flavors taste too sweet and loaded with sweeteners.
It has happened to me a couple of times that the delivery got mixed up. Once, I received Coffee and another time Salted Caramel. I didn't like them, so I mixed them with the Plain powder and used them up. For Coffee, I can just mix instant coffee and sweetener with it.
I like Plain because I can vary it: 1-1/2 banana + cocoa, cocoa + tbsp peanut butter, instant coffee. You can also use it to bake muffins or cookies.
