Microsoft Corp. said it’s buying Activision Blizzard Inc. in a $68.7 billion deal, uniting two of the biggest forces in video games to create the world’s third-biggest gaming company.
In its largest purchase ever, Microsoft will pay $95 a share in cash for one of the most legendary gaming publishers, known for titles like Call of Duty and World of Warcraft but which is also grappling with a cultural upheaval over its treatment of women. Activision Chief Executive Officer Bobby Kotick will continue to serve in that role, Microsoft said. Once the deal closes, the Activision Blizzard business will report to Phil Spencer, who heads Microsoft Gaming. The deal value includes Activision’s net cash.
Adding Activision’s stable of popular titles will help Microsoft expand its own offerings for the Xbox console and better compete with rival Sony Corp.’s PlayStation. Activision has a long history with the Xbox. The publisher’s largest franchise, Call of Duty, became successful largely due to Microsoft’s online platform Xbox Live, which allows players to connect for multiplayer matches. Most of Activision’s games are published on Xbox consoles.

Most of the criticisms of Forespoken are just straight up racism. There are people complaining about the sparse open world knowing that FFXIV was the same way, BOTW was the same way…most RPGs and fantasy RPGs specifically are that way, but ”Oh, No!” Forespoken must have a different standard applied.
I’m confident that if Square was able to clean up most frame hitching in FFXIV they’ll be able to polish Forespoken to a high level as well.

Post Fortnite/Apex/PUBG etc. the gaming audience is primed for MP games and Sony is already pushing for MP with Deviation games, Firewalk Studios, LOU Factions and probably Haven studios. I suspect Guerrilla does have some kind of MP in development. I also think Resistance is low key in-development between Insomniac and the Malaysia support studio.

I guarantee if Factions isn't free to play and also on PC, it goes nowhere. Especially if they charge 60, or only include it in a Last of Us remake/Last of Us 2 remaster bundle. Look at the biggest shooters and they're all free to play. It's just the way it is now. Just don't launch it bare bones. Give us a compelling main mode, and fun gameplay, and we're golden.

PlayStation still has Killzone, Resistance and SOCOM available in their back pocket. Call of Duty isn’t the banger that can’t be beat. Sony can put these games out in rotation and release one each year to offset not having Call of Duty. Additionally, per Activision, the majority of CoD players and sales come from PlayStation. Without the Sony player base, who is going to keep those Activision games alive? It was already mentioned by smoove that most Xbox players are on Halo. What else are they playing besides that, gears and Forza? They weren’t on Fallout (most sales on PlayStation). They weren’t on Skyrim (most sales on PlayStation and Switch). 2K? FIFA?
Microsoft better deliver for their game pass owners, or else they will be bleeding subscribers.

People need to understand the mainline Call of Duty games are integrated into Warzone, some Battlepass rewards would be almost useless if they were only usable in Warzone like finishing moves and players need alternate methods of leveling up their guns for skins and attachments for loadouts to use in Warzone otherwise Playstation players will never be able to unlock shit for their guns if Warzone was the only thing to play. It really makes no sense to keep Warzone on Playstation without the mainline games as well or they will have to rebuild the whole system and risk fucking up what they had planned for years.
That's why they're making warzone 2, so the progression won't be tied to other cods, so they can make it exclusive to xbox

I could care less about COD since I never liked COD, or First person shooter to be begin with, but I really dislike about this Activision acquisition is the sudden love for that company again. Are we forgetting about all the abuse and awful management prior? I don't see many people focusing on that, more like "No more yearly COD, bring back Crash."
Even if another company like Sony, Tencent, etc. got Activision, I will still not be happy. Activision is an awful company.
The only problem with BG’s point about those ps3 multiplayer exclusives is the fact that ps3 was only known for single player exclusives (xbox360 was more the hype-beast dude bro cod halo console) whereas today thats reversed. In todays era those multiplayers might actually have a chance, ALOT of casuals are hungry for multiplayer games.

Why was Activision scared of the developers and the SM2 game that was a COD killer.
Socom was thriving like crazy all the way up to confrontation. That game first socom on ps3 they tried something new and it completely failed and killed socom completely. Later on socom 4 came out and was pretty good. But socom was so gone for so long that it was hard to get people to come back.
People don't realize how good Socom was at the time. You were able to make your own lobbies. If you wanted to play demolition, extraction, or just respawn it was yours to make plus you could make the lobbies ranked and if you wanted to play in a higher ranked lobby you had to step your game up. You had a vote system to kick trolls out or if you sucked you got kicked. The multiplayer in the ps2 era was more advanced than it is today which is crazy.
socom was the shit my guy, had my own clan and all that i remember my copy came with a headset ps3 was really my first experience gaming online online, that game was very competitive and teamwork was on point
A monopoly has nothing to do with the availability of a product or service, it has all but everything to do with ownership. I don' think you all understand that when talking about Activision and blizzard games being available on more platforms than Xbox. We have to take a zoomed-out look at Microsoft as the overall company and not just the brand Xbox and see just how much proprietary software they own, and how that leans much closer to a monopoly.
It’s not a monopoly and not even leaning close. Microsoft could easily buy Ubisoft or any other publisher and still be good.

If you relisten I said before the Bethesda Deal most of them didnt Sell. Prey, Wolfenstein 2, Wolfenstein Youngblood, Dishonred, The Evil Within ALL flopped sales wise and Fallout 76 was critically hated. Doom Eternal did well and that was before the deal but like I said most of their recent games completely flopped. Skyrim came out a decade ago.

Bethesda has been notoriously bad when it comes to marketing. Games like Deathloop and Doom Eternal are only successful because they actually gave them a marketing budget.

I disagree, plus, he has been in this role for less than 3 years, yet I have seen people blame him, for things such as some Playstation games going to PC, Japan Studio closed (which is false by the way, studio was rebrand). I also find it extremely odd that Jim can say, he wants to invest more in big AAA games, or he wants Playstation Studios to produce high-quality games and somehow, people will become anti-AAA. Anyway, I can you list what exactly Jim has done that has Playstation in a mess?

Big moves by Microsoft, but I just don't give a fuck. I don't buy Activision games and if I wanted to I can just use my PC. I understand it's a future investment for their gamepass - which is a good choice, but again I personally just care about good quality games.
