I do find it frustrating that game development sacrifices performance stability for “next gen” graphic tech that rarely IMO impacts the experience nearly as much as poor or uneven performance.

It's the switch, it's a old console. It can barely run the games it does at 60. I'd much rather have a stable frame rate over a jittery one
Yes but the main thing is that it used to run at 60fps when it first released. When companies re-release a game people expect it to run better especially if it’s been 20 years. Also selling a 20 year old game for $60 is insane I think.

If Mario Odyssey can run at 60 locked, there's zero reason why this game shouldn't be.
@TamalesDeRajas this isn't a port. This isn't a remaster. This is a remake, which means it's not an old game. It was remade in line with modern PM. Which is all 30fps. They're prioritizing visuals.
Then how do you explain Metroid prime remastered? It runs at a perfect 60fps.

Why is this controversy happening so late though?
The very first reveal trailer of Paper Mario TTYD was 30fps and there were already very good reasons to believe it'd be confirmed with future trailers and such.
The “controversy” happens whenever it gets popular on Twitter. Probably something else was popular before. Some people have been mentioning some the 1st trailer but people weren’t personally offended then. Well, most aren’t really the moment people leave the internet.

People are sensitive to localization right now because individuals at localization companies have basically come out and said (in writing) that they will deliberately change dialogue or other translations to meet what they deem to be appropriate. The only reason this is gaining traction is because localization is already drawing a fine line between translation and maintaining the artistic vision of the creators. There is more scrutiny now on this than there ever was before.

How could Pong run on 60 fps if your TV only did 24 fps in Pal and 30 fps in NTSC? As far as I'm aware of, Televison sets couldn't handle 60 fps when Pong was released.

This is what the Switch can do: it's a home console where you can just pop in a game and play, no matter the resolution or frame rate. If you want to tweak those things, you can get a PC, but debating frame rates on consoles isn't worth it. That's why I stick with the Switch; other games will come to PC eventually, and I'm fine waiting for those new exclusives.
The irony that Koops has a full-on girlfriend named Koopie Koo (half his motivation for initially joining the party) but kept getting sandbagged by the whole cast is wild 🤣😭. Celia conveniently didn't mention his backstory 👀. Interesting. Put some respect on this dude's name 🥲.

For a game like paper Mario, 30fps is totally reasonable to tradeoff for better graphics or time developers spent elsewhere.
Nothing is free. There are always tradeoffs.
The game has basic graphics. No reason why it can't run at 60fps when the original ran at 60fps.

@Spined1234 the game is a lot more different than the original the lighting, the texture work the game looks infinitly better if you see a side by side.
@@saintlugia It ain’t that different. Paper Mario TTYD came out on the GameCube and ran at 60fps. A console 3 generations ago. Literally on one of the second generation of 3D consoles. There is absolutely no reason why it cannot run at 60fps
@@2BAMaster9 You do not know that. You were not there to watch the development process. It's a lot more complicated than many people are making it out to be. I don't think it's fair to make assumptions about what could or could not be done or how easy or difficult doing it would be. At the end of the day, they had to make a compromise and one that isn't very significant for this type of game at that. It's completely reasonable that high FPS wasn't at the top of their priority list. Consistency is far more important during actual gameplay.

I know it’s a technicality, but RGT, no, Pong did NOT run at 60fps (frames). Back in the day, TVs could only do 30fps(frames) Each frame was made up of 2 fields. And because of electricity running at 60Hz in the US and 50Hz in Europe, tube TVs ran at at 60 Interlaced Fields per second, not frames. A field is basically a HALF of an entire frame. Odd fields would show the odd numbered lines and even fields would show the even numbered lines and the TV would flicker between odd and even fields which gave the illusion of full complete pictures and smoother motion. Did the pong device have the ABILITY to run at 60frames? Maybe, but no one got that on their TV🤷🏻♂️
Well then that was a more reasonable take from RGT. Never thought about ya the esrb has these companies by the ballz. Easy to get such a thing.
Here's what I think. Nintendo is *not* treating PMTTYD on Switch as a Remake/Remaster. They're simply just making the game on Switch, for Switch. Nowhere in the title does it say it's a remake/remaster either so it's not like they're lying or scamming

What you actually should be after is making the 60 frames you are seeing look better

People need to learn how frames work, instead of gaining there "knowledge" from their mate Dave who swears by it, because of course its better if Dave says it

60 to 120 is 100% noticable. You can't just say "I don't see a difference so there isn't any and fuck you for thinking differently." I can tell, I have a 144hz monitor for my main gaming PC. I would rather take a higher fps to visuals depending on the game. FPS depends on the experience that is being presented. For instance, sometimes I lock my steam deck to 30 fps for longer battery but a turn based RPG doesn't need to be at 60+, and I am happy at 30. Certain games definitely want more while others are a-okay to aim for lower but better visuals. The way you frame your perspective is a good way to get people to side against you in your argument, especially as it's just straight up wrong. I can tell the difference, if you can't, hey no biggie. But don't tell me I'm wrong for wanting more depending on the game as I can tell that difference, doesn't necessarily make or break it but it is definitely nice depending on the experience

My (irrelevant and selfish) feedback:
Save for Josie and Nate, I found the podcast just very negative in general (for a few episodes now to be honest). A bit like Twitter where people get upset about things without considering any other point of view. Why dedicate so much airtime to the “angry mob news”? There are good people in the podcast, I hope it doesn’t accidentally fall in this tempting spiral of negativity (sometimes we don’t even notice it because it’s gradual).
On the topic of TTYD:
I’m very sensitive to frame rates but it’d be ridiculous for Nintendo or any company to try to appease the 1% at all times. Not all games will be made with me and my own tastes/preferences in mind.
(Hardcore) gamers forget the games aren’t only for them and should stop acting like taking casuals into account is a bad thing. There are so many games out there that I’m grateful for this era where I can share this hobby with people that game less.
Most companies aren’t out to get you or have some nefarious plan. Why should it even be a controversy when it’s a remake, and by definition it NOT the same game Nor a remastered version of it.
There’s also no need to have a resolution or frame rate standard. Let devs decide what they want to prioritise in any given game. Don’t like? Don’t buy. AND don’t pirate it. No one is entitled to use a product just because you felt offended or felt not catered to by the company. As much as we hate the system at a times it’s the right to profit from an intellectual property that brings us these pieces of art. Let’s focus the energy on issues that matter such as predatory practices like loot boxes in games aimed at kids.

He did and he is allowed to but he can expect to be called out for it. If he doesn't like some of the characters on the podcast there are plenty of places he can go that will serve his preferences better.
