    The messa di voces are so resonant 😍

    Gosh, that was enchanting to listen to! No wonder he sounds so good. And I did not know the terminology for many of the dynamics. I only knew like volume ones like piano, pianissimo, forte etc. Educational.

    I still remember me sitting for like 2 hours in my bed and trying to get the "sea" crescendo from "God bless America" right 😁

    what is messa di voce? I keep seeing it.

      Crescendo -> diminuendo on the same pitch. I labelled reverse messa di voce (diminuendo -> crescendo) here as messa di voce too tho.

      Piano to Crescendo to Decrescendo

    What's the difference between diminuendo and decrescendo

    • @KajiVocals
      @KajiVocals  4 роки тому +8

      Well, to be honest it depends on who you ask. I took the approach of ‘diminuendo’ as ‘disappearing or diminishing’ here and ‘decrescendo’ as ‘decreasing or getting smaller’. But those terms are often used interchangeably.

    Great video... love David. The note at 4:47 is actually D flat, not F.

      That’s Guy on the Db.

      Kaji David is singing the melody on that tune he arranged (O love that will not let me go). The tonic note for the 1st tenor which David sings the whole time is D flat at the end of that tune. I actually have the sheet music. Guys part is an A flat (2nd tenor) Russ Taff on an F (baritone) and Bill singing the low D flat. If you listen closely, you can hear the tone of David’s voice on the D flat (you can also hear Guy crescendo sightly on his A flat). It’s the exact same note he sings at 4:37, it’s the note written in his part for that last chord. There is no F4 in that chord. I don’t mean to be picky, I just noticed the mistake and thought I’d point it out. Thanks for the video. I love anything that features David.

      @@forceknt31 The F4 top note is extremely obvious to hear in that video clip. How can you say there's no F4? It may be your headphone are cutting some sound off

      Okebaram E if you read my comment above, I explain in detail exactly how. There IS and F, but it’s F3 and being sung by Russ Taff. I have pretty good relative pitch, and as a professional musician I can hear each note in the chord - the top note is D flat, and as David is singing the Melody, that’s the note he sings. I know each of their voices and how they sound so I can hear very clearly who is singing what. All this is aside from the fact that I actually have the sheet music that they sing from, and David’s part, the last note is a D flat, the tonic note of the last chord of the song. I hate quibbling about such small details, but I know what I’m talking about and what my ears hear. I’ve had years of schooling and training and a masters degree in music 😅

      @@forceknt31 NO sir! There's an F4 in the sustained "go" chord. And it is sung by David. It's in a soft head voice and is not as loud as the Ab3 or Db4 which have a fuller sound. Even though Guy Penrod (tall guy) sang an Ab4 on "go" in the previous piece, but then on this sustained "go" the man next to him (Russ Taff) sang the Ab3 which is probably the loudest part, but Guy sang the Db4 instead, and Bill Gaither (far right) is the one who sang the bass note which is a Db3 (it could sound like an F3 because of the chord and the presence of F in there but there's actually no F3 there), but David Phelps sings F4 in a sweet head voice tone. Use headphones or remove headphones, depending on what you did before, and turn the volume as loud as you can and listen again. There is an F4 and David sang it.
