- Ranger enters Duke Nukem's realm! (Get it?... 3D Realms?) This is a remake of Hollywood Holocaust (E1M1) in Quake. Very well done and true to the original Duke Nukem map.

Ahh, two games that were released in the same year moulded together perfectly.
Fun fact: Up untill 1996, everyone was always trying to outdo Doom but none had the impact Doom had but everyone saw the third dimention(3D Acceleration)as the new frontier and all wanted to be the first to make a fully 3D game, ID Software’s next game was designed to be fully 3D, but other companies, including 3D Realms(makers of Duke Nukem 3D) were starting to innovate, the prize, claim over being the first company to do a fully 3D accelerated game.
Quake’s crown was hanging by a thread, and in 1996, after a sadly brutal few years of Development, Quake released, ID Software had taken the crown for now doing alot of firsts, including having made the first fully 3D game.
However, This game marked the end of the old ID Software and now ID Software’s once proud dominance of the 90’s did not carry into the future.
I’d like to ask those who read this to have a minute of silence for the death of the old ID Software.
@@ThatRetroAussie iD software died after Quake. Q2 and later just weren't as good, and most iD headliners left gradually. Duke 3D may have not been full 3D, but it provided strong competition of Quake nonetheless.

I guess it makes sense - Unreal I was using quite similar technolog, albeit closer to Quake 2 with colored lightmaps.

So this happens when fps heroes take vacations - other heroes just take their place (while we are not watching, of course!).
Pretty impressive mod.
This would be the closest thing to playing the 1998 version of Duke Nukem Forever (when it used the Quake engine).

Very enthusiastic to see great old level design from games like Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior, Blood in Quake. Now it really deserved to be called Duke Nukem 3D ^^
Level design at the end of 2D era for FPS was crazy, and some sequels in 3D deceived some people, while simple 3D graphics from the beginning of 3D era are more appealing to me, so if we could have the best of both worlds it would be perfect

Would be cool to see a total conversion using Quake's graphics while using Duke 3d's gameplay. Destructable objects and environments, interactivity, etc.
Might be possible in the near future. Someone is working on making a quake version of half life right now. Including breakable items and a gravity gun!

I would love to see all of the DN3D monsters and weapons ported to Quake. Although I like Quake’s sound effects. It’s such a damn loud game.

Sweet mod, despite some original textures were clearly altered...
Pretty sure they would have to, they cannot just use original Duke Nuken 3D textures in a Quake mod. So I suspect that is the case for all of the textures.

It's weird that these games were essentially contemporaries, but they don't really jive right. This is an honest and involved project undoubtedly, but it doesn't work well.

В начале двутысячных боты были даже к нему (да боты в старом понимании, имитация мультиплеера против компа, но близнецом играл не человек, 2022 год - понятие бот изменилось). Потом были утеряны. А в DN3D играю с 1996 года по 2022, даже свои моды создавал...
@@kirillyurkov5072 в 90е не знал даже про такое для кваки, с ботами играл в контру 1.6 только. А мод на видео классный, соединяет две легенды воедино)

Broussard was an asshat, almost everyone already knows that. Otherwise DNF would have been released in around 2002 or so.
No? People made and shared levels for both Quake _and_ Duke 3D all the time back then. I'd be surprised if there _aren't_ circa 1996 recreations of Duke 3D levels in Quake, and vice-versa.
The internet was tiny back then, there was no such thing as companies issuing takedowns - not on the scale that we see today. DMCA itself was only introduced in 1998, and it still did nothing to stop stuff like Napster years later. Copyright bullshit only became a problem from the mid-to-late 2000's onwards.

Eh, as a cool as it is, Duke3D has more levels in the game than just E1M1. The introductory level is exceptionally awesome though mainly because it made me go "finally, a tribute to Duke3D that ISN'T a remake of Hollywood Holocaust!".
