Thanks! One thing: When testing Wind Waker on Gamecube, please don't test right at the start. Play, like, 15 minutes, until you get to the point where you get Tetra out of the tree. That area is much more demanding, so only having good speed in the first area doesn't really tell us if the game will run fine.
I like how four "shoulder" buttons is becoming an absolute must have. I'd welcome six buttons layout on the basic panel for fighting games and N64 titles. Thanks for the review.
Its a shame we all lost the 6 face button standard. I wish it would come back. Even though yes 64 and sega emulation is the appeal, I feel we still need it for street fighter for example

The ergonomics of this device make it useless. Screen constrast with dark colors is atrocious as seen in the video, it gets pretty damn hot and battery drains very quickly. You are adviced.

The odin looks nice and will probably be easier to get. 240$ for the base model, which isn't bad. Same time, who can speak for the reliability. At the same time, the steam deck will play so many other games. Plus its ryzen can use x86 emulators better. The steam deck will definately play some switch games. Isn't even a wii u android emulator yet, not to mention switch. Windows on arm, ain't going to get you far. But having x86, you could install windows 10 for sure.
I really appreciate when you do comparison specs snd test results to other devices. I watch all your videos, but i cant remember all the test results. I know i could go back and look at past results, but its nice to have it right there.
when you factor controls the comparison of price between phone is almost the same but yeah got to agree if you get a decent phone and invest on an xsir controller you will def get better performance than any handheld
Would be nice to see you test the easier to run consoles like Genesis and PS1 but with CRT shaders and similar enhancements. I personally love the CRT shaders, they look way better than raw pixels, especially for low res games from the 90s.
Frustrating that in 2021, it still costs well over $200 ($173 usd is $214 cnd) to do decent N64 emulation. The "new 2ds" can do that, and it's like 7 years old (but of course they are hard to find now).
That's why it makes more sense to buy a decent Android phone with a USB-C controller. While it may cost more, it's also your phone, plus it streams video, etc.
I bought a razer phone 2 a while ago for this purpose when it was half-off, I haven't really used that much as an emulation device, but it's there if I want it and at 90Hz refresh rate, SD845 4/6GB of RAM and those AMAZING front firing PROPER speakers, I think I'll stick with that. OTHER than that, I'll wait another year until I buy into these consoles, then they should be where I want them to be. Get a good 870 chip in them and a 720 screen should be a nice pairing.
I just can’t see the value proposition of these handhelds if you already have a solid Android phone and a game pad. I have a Galaxy S20 and a Razer Kishi, so I can’t see why I’d buy one of these.
TDATA I have the same phone. Bought with a gamesir X2. My daily driver is an LG V60, so this phone is strictly for emulation and other handheld gaming. Great phone for gaming on the go. Runs everything including gamecube really well. Just wish there was a better emulator for PS2 on Android.

People who have already tested this say how bad the bottoms are especially the shoulder ones which get stuck solid. Plus some guys have some PS2 games running but only a few and a very well known hacker already has a better firmware up and running improving quite a few things about this handheld.
Black Seraph is working on Lineage OS I believe for this? And I've also seen some PS2 and Wii emulation on this as well. This may not be the best retro handheld out, but it is still pretty capable.
The T618 is already faster than the T310. With the GE8300 and only a Single Halfway decent A75 core clocked at 2Ghz, I wouldn't expect any magic from that chip. The Snapdragon 845 has 4 of them at 2.8Ghz so it's not gonna be Anywhere near a Snapdragon 845.
Great review ETA, agree the build quality could be much better. Especially when it comes to the d-pad and sticks. Still, enjoying this device and looking forward to the upcoming firmware options.
I was excited about this, but the Bad controls just killed My excitemend. I still hace My og Gpd XD, an rg350m for low end emus and an old pixel 1 on a gamepad for PSP and dreamcast. This was the device to take them all. O well

During your upcoming emulation test, would you consider trying out “Hot Wheels: Ultimate Racing” for the PSP? I’ve been looking for a way to play that game on the go, and this new PowKiddy handheld seems like the right way to go (price notwithstanding).
@@afkaz Meh. I think a psp is easier to fit in your pocket then a controller unless you've got the largest pockets ever. Or a backpack witch isn't the most practical when out an about, unless you're still in school.
If you’re into modern wall mounted arcade cabinets, I do a pretty neat build for Umbrella Arcades. There’s a gaming PC inside with 28,000 games for over 60 systems. It plays most of gaming history right out of the box, from Atari to Switch. The Switch emulator can run games at 1440p resolution and 60 FPS.
You think you could benchmark mario 64 or ocarina of time i find some handhelds to be inconsistant at holding up to the game in alot of demanding scenes
Ive been interested in some sort of emulation device for a while. I was thinking a pi, but the more I think of it, an android handheld like this really interest me. Because I'd like to play android games as well as emulators
Definitely low on perf for the price. Would've been nice to see how it emulates ds, but for that purpose alone it might be better to find an used one anyway. For people in the US at least there's the steam deck making one second guess about going for one of these, for most people who are able to purchase one it its worth stretching a bit the budget to just get the steam deck and be able to play and emulate pretty much anything with the better build quality on top of it. Really hope valve brings it to the rest of the world before its obsolete.

Hey great review! But samsung is known for baking benchmark detection in the kernel so when you run a benchmark on it it will ramp up all cores if you do the same thing on a stock android phone it won't be the case 😊
With this playing just some gamecube stuff it's really just another, "up to psp and dreamcast" handheld with worse build quality and more expensive than an Ambernic 351. With a lot of new stuff on the horizon i think i'll wait to see if a new $200 device has better Dolphin support. If not, i'll splurge and go all in for the Odin Pro and the dock.
since that costs the same as the base steam deck, I think the steam deck would be a monumentally better value. the RDNA 2 SOC should be able to play up to some PS3 games and pretty much every other emulator, (WII U, Switch, gamecube Wii, etc) and be able to play regular AAA PC games, plus you get much better long term support with valve
My favorite mobile platform is psp so this will do fine. I have always wanted a DS style clamshell. It will tide me over until the Odin Pro comes out! Odin Pro with the docking base, yeah baby!!

ETA Prime was too kind with the controls. Probably because he didn't used it much as he quickly opted for using it as a TV console with a Xbox controller. Retro Game Corps did an in-depth review and found the controls to be utter trash. I guess we now wait to see Anbernic's $199 handheld. I think it should be better than this. But they might opt for a RK3399 instead. At least I hope so.
I bought one but after seeing some reviews I don't know if I should have, I like the idea that it can be used for more then a games console since you can get the google play store on it. I don't know, I guess I'll have to see how I like it once I get it. I'd love to be able to have a device that could play up to PS3 games or an all in one device but then the price wouldn't be cheap at all and looking more in the realm of a GPD or AYA or ONEX Player device. I also hate to spend $1,000+ on a device and I've heard mixed reviews on those as well. I'm sure as time goes on, will see something soon though, that's also not the steam deck lol

yeah maybe if you have a phd in Electrical Engineering. Making fans for such small computers is not trivial. Eitherway they are good horizontal controllers, look up telescopic controllers. The xbox series controller with the 8 bit do phone attachment or their own 8 bit do pro 2 controller w/ attachment is are both incredibly good choices.
If there were 6 buttons aswell as 4 shoulders I'd overlook all of the shortcomings. As it stands with just 4 front buttons I'm going to want some other perk, great screen or fantastic speakers. But I must be honest the general appearnce of the device, the color scheme, shape everything (except that branding) for me is absolutely perfect.
Steam Deck will crush everything. But if you're wanting Android options, I don't see what the market is for these kinds of devices, not when most people have fairly modern smartphones with SD855+ CPUs and 6+ GB RAM.
Anyone else here trying to get an idea of Anbernig RG505 performance, sucks there aren't any recent reviews. I think aethersx2 is much more optimized now and would love to see new testing of this chipset.
The main reason why I cant buy these emulation devices because these sites doesn't delivered in India. I last time i ordered rg350 and it never came. Ali express in banned in my country so my best option is mobile with 8bit do controller. that works fine. Great fan of your work.

These handhelds cost too much. I got an lg g8x refurbished for well bellow this price and it blows it out of the water.

is there any point in getting any of these over the steam deck?
I am not computer smart, and don't even own one, so can you go through a quick rundown of the pre installed games, if any cause this could be my next handheld?
How many built in games it has? How can we download more games? Are free games available?
ETA Prime was too kind with the controls. Probably because he didn't used it much as he quickly opted for using it as a TV console with a Xbox controller. Retro Game Corps did an in-depth review and found the controls to be utter trash. I guess we now wait to see Anbernic's $199 handheld. I think it should be better than this. But they might opt for a RK3399 instead. At least I hope so.
I bought one but after seeing some reviews I don't know if I should have, I like the idea that it can be used for more then a games console since you can get the google play store on it. I don't know, I guess I'll have to see how I like it once I get it. I'd love to be able to have a device that could play up to PS3 games or an all in one device but then the price wouldn't be cheap at all and looking more in the realm of a GPD or AYA or ONEX Player device. I also hate to spend $1,000+ on a device and I've heard mixed reviews on those as well. I'm sure as time goes on, will see something soon though, that's also not the steam deck lol

Any plan to buy a high-end android phone parts, build a handheld device with controller out of it through 3d printing while adding a fan on the CPU..?? I wonder if it could beat those gaming phone.
yeah maybe if you have a phd in Electrical Engineering. Making fans for such small computers is not trivial.
Eitherway they are good horizontal controllers, look up telescopic controllers.
The xbox series controller with the 8 bit do phone attachment or their own 8 bit do pro 2 controller w/ attachment is are both incredibly good choices.
Really curious what that moniter is ive been thinking about picking one up.

If there were 6 buttons aswell as 4 shoulders I'd overlook all of the shortcomings. As it stands with just 4 front buttons I'm going to want some other perk, great screen or fantastic speakers. But I must be honest the general appearnce of the device, the color scheme, shape everything (except that branding) for me is absolutely perfect.

FYI if you change the resolution on the Saturn emulator to 2x Sega Rally runs fine with the text displayed with no flickering…….
Steam Deck will crush everything. But if you're wanting Android options, I don't see what the market is for these kinds of devices, not when most people have fairly modern smartphones with SD855+ CPUs and 6+ GB RAM.

The main reason why I cant buy these emulation devices because these sites doesn't delivered in India. I last time i ordered rg350 and it never came. Ali express in banned in my country so my best option is mobile with 8bit do controller. that works fine. Great fan of your work.
