Never talk to those people. Same with police. They aren't your friends and will definitely use what you say against you.
There is only one response to any questions they may ask me.
I don't answer questions.
Put a no-access sign on your gate or door.
First thing a copper will ask when they pull you over is the classic self incriminating question. “Do you know why I have stopped you?”
They have probably pulled you for a particular reason, but want to get a bonus offence.
Always say you have no idea as to why, because you may have been pulled for something as simple as a defective brake light, or a dirty number plate. If you say something like “I may have gone over the speed limit”, then bang £100 3 points, or £100 and naughty school (2018 penalty’s) because they are probably recording you.
Never incriminate yourself by saying too much.
If they say you drove through a red light, then for goodness sake ask to see the evidence, even if you know you did drive through as the lights were changing to red.
Finally a word to the wise, always be polite, and always act ignorant of any traffic offences you may have committed. 9 times out of 10 you will get a lecture then are free to go about your business if they have no evidence.
Imagine knocking the door of a 70 year old lady and taking her to court and fining her for simply watching a tv! It’s disgusting! They prey on the most vulnerable people!
Obviously I was wrong , but I thought the nazis were eradicated after the war!
Jon has a fair point...if shes that hard up, why does she have sky. Ofcourse I think TV licence shoild be a subscription like everything else and not a pseudo tax.
I'm just waiting for a goon to show up so I can shut the door in their face
i get endless letters about them calling. I get my hopes up, and they never show. Typical can't wait to tell them to do one.
They will be round on the 10th of October, or just after, or before, or there abouts
Me to but they seem to be lacking in commitment.
@@sparkyjackson8479 Yes, but will you be in? They want you to be in even if they're not coming.
could not be easier never talk to them or let them in, but you can't fix stupid.
Let’s be honest here, nobody needs to pay the £160 TV licence, it is unenforceable. All these threatening, letters, mythical detector vans and life imprisonment are just bollocks. As long as you don’t admit it and shut the door on them there is sod all they can do. Even with a court order, it can only prove you have a TV, not what you watch. For £160 you could have an all-inclusive weekend in Benidorm.
@@derektaylor2941 It is not up to the defendant to convince anyone, it is up to the prosecution to prove the criminal offence.
BBC couldn’t even catch nonces in their own organisation, never mind be able to tell what people watch.
Colonel Alan Faulkner! Wild Geese, brilliant film.
@@DameEdna42 and some things like payment for Sky TV package or an aerial attatched to a tv are allowed to be taken as proof of TV watching,in law its the ability to receive that counts not the actual watching, this is always dealt with at magistrates court, the fact you are there is taken by the magistrate as the prosecution (the licence enforcers) having provided the evidence.
Haha. Truth there mate 👍
she should have a free licence
@lesblack8996 used to be 75 and up but the BBC scrapped that a few tears ago, git to keep paging now according to them
Free TV licence is only available to over 75s on Pension Credit. I qualify, but still don't want it.
I still get the letters: )
Many thanks for sharing this Jon. Feel sorry for the pensioner but like you said, she must have invited the Goon in or said she was watching live broadcast!!! We live in a messed up world!!! 🙄🙄🙄
We live in a messed up and crap country.
Exactly - NEVER EVER invite any of these Capita sales people into your home. If they knock on you door, all you have to do is say 'no thank you' and close the door. There is absolutely nothing further they can do. They simply plod on to their next victim, who will hopefully say much the same thing. Interestingly, the vast majority of those who end up in Court are women.
Goon got his commission and went straight to the pub to piss it up.
Don't pay the license and watch whatever you want. Don't allow any TV license goons into your house and don't engage in conversation with them. I have lived according to this strategy for decades.
That old dear probably thought she was covered because she was paying for sky. It makes my blood boil that they target people like this. My nana is 99, and will have to go through the landline cut off soon, she doesn't understand all this stuff.
You don't get a criminal record for getting fiined for not having a TV licence
If someone is found guilty of watching broadcast TV without having a valid licence they will not get a criminal record because the offence is classed as non-recordable.
Certain jobs may require a full DBS disclosure which may also show non-recordable offences.
Hope the goon feels good about himself, expect his back in mummy’s house now, all excited 😳
Just never interact with anyone from TV License. My conscious is clear.
I really feel for the older generation, they feel the need to not find out the full facts or not ask questions to their family for clarification. Such a shame.

conscience
Spend the money you've saved on a dictionary. 😉
@@SpeccyMan nah no need to; you’re here to correct any mistakes.
@@thatslife13 Nice comeback 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
And the moral is - never let the enforcement goons into your house and do not under any circumstances talk to them other than "no thank you" - door shut in face, as John rightly says.
Most people get into trouble with the authorities because someone else snitched, or the person was foolish enough to make admissions that were used against them.
I doubt they could base a case on someone snitching - you have to let them in or admit it before they can do anything.
Simple - never converse with them, never let them in.@@philiphumphrey1548
@@philiphumphrey1548 This.
I personally pay for my 74yr old Mothers Virgin subscription…..so therefore she (sadly) has to pay for a TV license.
I’m no massive fan of live broadcast programs….as you always advocate, I’d rather watch what I want when I want to watch it….hence no BBC subscription in our house.
Keep up the good work John, great content 👍
I don’t know if she’s in the position however if she gets pension credit, she would be eligible for the free lic once she is 75. You can apply ahead of time too so might help your mum out going forward.
She doesn’t have to pay it at all. Cancel it and tell them to fuck off, problem solved.
Last winter there was a knock at my door, it was after a huge snowfall the previous night and everything was starting to thaw the next day as it was sunny. Anyway, opened the door and this guy dressed like a hipster, you know the type - flat cap, Rip Van Winkle beard and wearing cords etc. He introduced himself as a TV License 'Officer' - and before I could even open my gob to tell him to go take a hike, a huge boulder of snow from the windowsill of the small bedroom that's directly above the door fell smack bang on his head. I mean it was a shitload, thankfully, it was just snow not ice. The look on his face was a picture, he was covered in wet slushy snow, but then he looked up and gave me the evils like I'd orchestrated it or something. Needless to say he didn't get in the house, but I did give him a towel as I do have a humane side... no-ones ever been back again thankfully :)
There are people who don't understand that this doesn't just apply to watching BBC. I have met senior citizens who think it just applies to BBC , they get confused. Nasty lot w ho fined her.
In 2019 I unplugged my TV and packed it away in the spare bedroom. I had grown tired of watching the endless repeats, soap operas and reality TV, and I did not believe the the licence fee was value for money. Now 4 years later due to circumstances I reestablished the TV in the living room. The first program I watched was Aussie Gold Diggers. I soon realised that after 4 years the programs on all the channels were still the same, endless repeats, soap operas and reality TV. So the TV has to go. I do not understand why anyone would pay the licence fee to watch this drivel.
Been without a TV for the last 6 years. I don't miss it at all. I have hobbies and interests to keep me occupied.
I watch UA-cam.
Is it not possible for people to get 'together" to agree a date on which they all cancel their direct debit!
It would be like herding cats!
She is struggling financially but she can afford a Sky subscription. Seems odd.
Why pay Sky to watch Corry when we’ve got Buggernation Street here on’t UA-cam?
I would love to see an advert on ITV X saying you dont need a TV licence to whatch ITV X.
I would never watch present day Coronation St , it's not the same without Hilda and Stan ! 🍺🤩
Mrs Sharpels and Minnie Coldwell were my favourites 😂
Or without Elsie!!!!
Eddie Yates
Len Fairclough.
Albert Tatlock
In her defence, I have just viewed the SKY TV ad and viewed all their many offers, Even in the legal bits there is no mention of a requirement for a TV licence so the unsavvy would just think they watching something direct from sky?
Ignorance of the law is no defence.
Do the goons have to obey the NO COLD CALLER signs?
No, because they are there to see if you are breaking the law even though they have no powers whatsoever.
@@stevesmyth4982But you can send licensing a letter removing the right of them to be able to access your property. Crazy world.
Yes. Black Belt Barrister has covered this. They're defined as trespassers, same as if you tell them they are. After that point no evidence gained is admissible in Court.
@@stevesmyth4982what law where? If you want to see law, drop an apple. No legislation shows any mandatory obligation in legalese to have to have a licence
@Euphoftoday The Communications Act 2003:
It is an offence under section 363 of the Communications Act 2003 to watch live on any channel, TV service or streaming service, or use BBC iPlayer* on any device, without a valid TV Licence. Section 365 of that Act requires a person to whom a TV Licence is issued must pay a fee to the BBC.
what does my head in is if your blind but you can hear the tv you need a license,if your deaf but can see the tv you got to get a license wtf love your work jon i bet the guy was so happy with his 20 quid
you're
licence
The blind are the worst off. Deaf get sign and subtitles.
*Your unwavering stamina at this is most admirable, Jon, in that you have to repeatedly reiterate the same spiel that you gave, and I for one would have become exhausted by it by now, so thank you for continuing. If you are subsequently ever around Croydon then we can share a chat over a Wetherspoons together and I will pay (one meal, two forks!). Ciao.*
As I disagree with the idea of the tv licence it still makes me wonder why in this day and age you need a tv licence, the money going to the bbc, to watch a commercial station??? And in this case there were two commercial stations ie she was watching ITV via SKY !!! Surely these days the licence should only apply to anybody who wants to watch and thereby fund BBC channels.
As someone said earlier "utter bollocķs" why should anyone pay to watch COMMERCIAL TV. Surely the commercials pay for that!
Disgusting being taken to court and fined for watching Indian food!
40 years out of date....cop yourself on BBC...you were the big boys in the 60s and 70s...not anymore!!
Trouble is with the world there's always someone willing to be the goon. This is the problem. Anyone with a proper conscience would abstain from such forms of employment.
Not watching live TV job done.
Bet she was made to believe she also needed that sky package to watch Corrie.
Due to GDPR I doubt Sky would dare to inform the BBC who subscribes to their services. Although even having a Sky package doesn’t mean you watch live TV or are committing an offence.
What the bloody hell are the goons doing knocking on someones door at 7:30-8:00 in the evening, are they really that desperate for the £20
Nobody ever goes to prison either
If I may,I get the impression that the person in question has sky for her interweb. This person has said "Dear Sky,I can't afford my present package, please may I change my package to a less expensive package".Sky have said "why not take a Tv package and we can save you "x" amount"...."oh,ok"....and everything starts rolling, like a snowball, from there....
I look forward to free meals in prison
Thanks for the reminder. I gave the tv up 15 year ago,,to learn music! I follow the rugby on YT, listening to real fans making the commentary but , no pictures or sound. The world cup starts on friday night, and I asked big sister if I could visit her to view the opening ceremony. Absolutely...not she barked,,,this is a football house! She found the itv app, and I've registered.
I'll still listen to it live on YT, the chat is good crack,,but will watch the repeat show on the app.
I haven’t paid the Licence fee for the last three years, best choice I ever made, shortly after this I also removed my terrestrial aerial - OK, I know a lot of TV is available via my smart tv, but it just saves making a “mistake” mainly when switching on the tv😊 On and I don’t have sky tv or the new sky smart tv as I don’t see why you subscribe to their services, which includes BBC and all the others, then pay again for the “privilege” of watching BBC etc via a normal aerial, paying twice, in other words! A fool and his money are easily separated!
I have not removed my sat dish. There is no mistake in watching live TV. I just don't have it connected.
£80 fine, how much do the bbc charge for one of their licences? Lol!
Love the walks..dont talk to anyone.😊
I look at it this way, if it say “the occupier” as a name don’t open it as it’s an offence to open mail that is not addressed to you. Keep it for a month then if the person name “the occupier” doesn’t come to collect their mail send it back, stating that “the occupier” doesn’t live here. I do it all the time it’s fun to see what they do next lol
The Tv could have been in view , ie though a front window or on them opening the door , going back a few years ago i knew someone who was cought twice that way, from path to her front door you could see in her living room where her TV was . How she didn't learn from the first time i'll never know.
You don't need a licence to have a TV!
I own a TV and have a satellite dish on my wall. That is not illegal with not having a TV licence.
It's worth pointing out that it is not a recordable offence so doesn't form a criminal record (although it might for an enhanced disclosure where broader information is disclosed).
I've stopped declaring online that i do not need and license, as a result have recieved ample free toilet paper samples, and no one has yet called on my door to check out why I do not have a license!
They never will.
well as i still get threat letters since i no longer declare no licence needed they come addressed to the legal occupier so they dont have name so im pretty sure if you dont say anything and tell goons no thanks and shut door they have no evidence and if they dont have your name either they cannot get a warrant
You can guarantee the goon lied or bullied his way into her property using his make believe authority
I was going to ask why she shelled out for a sky subscription if she's struggling financially.
When they come just open door ask who they are doing not enter into a conversation with them just keep asking who they are when they say tv licence person close door on them an that's it.
OK better still don't answer the door
Might be someone informing you that you've won the Lottery...@@MichelleLixton
No fool like an old fool
So this reporter is WRONG !!!!!
Should not have to pay this tax for bias bbc
The pensioner might have genuinly thought by paying an watching sky she didnt have to pay the bbc
I stopped SKY and T.V licence at same time. Cut the ariel ends off taped them up.
That’s a bit far. Cancelling both is fine, cutting the ariel is just stupid, and proves nothing.
@@gamingbytetv665 Yes if I lived alone but I don't so made damn sure if a goon did enter there is nothing to find.
This story i have no doubt is true but it makes little sense.
Insead of Sky sending this person details to TVL why didn't they warn her
that her details would be passed on and to watch Sky a licence is required.
I don't suppose that Sky will care once you have signed up, which is also
strange as Sky do a credit check before accepting you.
The fact that she dropped herself in it with the "Enforcement Officer" makes
me wonder just how gullible are some people?
As said it was a fair cop, but so unfair that a pensioner should have to go through this.
It depends on what you are watching on Sky. She could have argued that she was using their catch up service to watch Sky programmes. I have Sky and I have my Netflix subscription with Sky. Her mistake was admitting that she watched coronation street live. The lady should not have talked to the TV Licensing dirtbags.
Talking to the goons is never advisable, they will twist any evidence you give them
to obtain a conviction@@juliewills8034
There was a sneaky live broadcast on sky news website homepage on Sunday, when I checked the headlines at my folks house. I won't be using sky news website on a Sunday now. How do they get away with that without a TVL notice?
The lady's "Sky Subscription" could have been a phone and broadband package that included basic streaming services to a STB. Although incorrect, in this situation it would be easy to see how an elderly person could believe she had already paid for her the ability to watch what was included in her service. As a telco engineer, I can confirm it's often cheaper to get a bundle with a STB than phone and BB alone in the hope they can entice you to pay per view orsign up to higher channel subscription packages.
How can you be taken to court even if you admit to the goons that you were watching TV? Surely you must sign something admitting to it. There must be concrete evidence otherwise the goons could make up false verbal accusations.
Hi John. What is needing a licence to have a Smart TV now theve added? Supposed to be what you use it for not what you own. You don't need one to possess and own a TV.
I think she’s been given bad advice from someone who knows nothing about the rules but it makes no sense tv license versus sky package 🤔
I have issue with BBC in the fact they sent me a letter saying I been watching BBC IPlayer and I need licence etc... except, I haven't been watching IPlayer.
They also say if they error contact them (with genuine contact link) but the contact login form requires a TV Licence number, which obviously I wouldn't have lol
That almost sound like entrapment just ignore their rubbish. 2 years + boycotting the British bashing sods with 24 letters and 2 visits they can go and fry.
I can stay within the rules no problem. I don't watch LIVE garbage at all.
Shes struggling but can afford sky tv seems a bit strange
Why watch Corrie or main stream TV when you can watch Chilli for free; beware the door bell !
You can watch anything you want, whenever you want - you don't need a licence. If you pay for a TV licence, you're a mug. You can only get caught out if you speak to these halfwits, let them in, and tick 'yes' where it says 'Guilty'. Otherwise no problem.
only you can dub your self in
When the TV Licence will become "subscription" for BBC ??
The BBC would hate it if they knew how many people here in Europe watch using VPN net based TVs 😂😂😂
Whilst I'm on, can somebody clarify this please? I frequently read BBC News online (if only to see their bias on things!). Very often in their stories they have links to video clips. When I click to play, the picture might have 'BBC iPlayer' tagged in the top left corner and, even if it doesn't, presumably any video clip on BBC News belongs to the BBC. Does watching these news clips constitute a breach of licensing rules? I haven't knowingly opened the BBC iPlayer app or turned on a BBC tv channel - I was just directed there by the BBC News website which is free to all users, licensed or not.
"Don't watch anything being broadcast" "Don't watch iPlayer" You're slipping Jon must be those long absences.. Don't interact with them at the front door other than "no thanks" , Don't waste your time declaring no licence needed esp if they haven't already got your details.. I've probably missed a few more don'ts as you haven't been around to remind me.. This person convicted themself, see what happens when you take a rest😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You can watch live tv without a licence. I’m doing it right now. I’m at my mates and he’s got the telly on, his responsibility not mine.
Pensioners should be excluded from the licence Tax/fee. they are just easy prey for the goons.
you only get a criminal record if you are convicted of failing to pay a fine from being caught watching live TV without a licence.
Not paying your Licence in it's self a recordible offence.
She obviously wasn't really 'Struggling'.
You dont need a sky package plenty of free stuff available
She could have been confused and thought paying for Sky included the licence fee.
I'm not so sure you understand the meaning of the word struggling in the context in which it was used here. That much is obvious.
@@SpeccyMan Hello, was that addressed to me or to Chilli? If you pause the video at 1.41 you can see on the screen she herself states 'I have recently been struggling financially'. But not struggling to the point of not being able to afford an unnecessary Sky package? So wasn't the context here a financial one for the use of the word struggling? That's the context I attempted to convey with the use of the word in that specific sentence. How much is a Sky package? Is it more than the TV licence per month? If you're struggling (Financially) wouldn't you NOT buy this package so that you'd certainly be struggling less?
@@garylovell6017 Get over yourself.
I have a tv but never switch it on haven’t in 3 years or more, I watch UA-cam mostly and a few games. I don’t miss tv at all
alot of ppl attacking her for having sky, yet not attacking the bbc. very telling about what yall believe in tbh.
I think I'm on to my ninth official investigation now. I keep going from 'please respond' letters to 'right! That's it! Now you're for it! Red envelopes... and then back again 😄
Exactly, this woman is "struggling financially on benefits" ... yet can afford Sky TV. I'm not buying this "oh poor pensioner me" BS
I know a significant number of 80+ people who are perfectly competent online and much better than me.
Basically a normal person gets a crimal record and there's real crimes every day who get away with real crimes
You right about real crimes but TV licence offences are non recorded offences , no criminal record ,,
Why does anyone need a BBC TV license to watch ITV, which is funded by advertising revenue. When the BBC lose a customer why are all the other channels obliged to lose that customer as well, thereby losing advertising revenue. Doesn't that violate corporate law?
It’s not a BBC licence the need or not for a licence is under Statute Law , the BBC are responsible for enforcing and collecting but the need or not for a licence is a matter of Law ,
All very confusing. Can you have a sky package, but no tv licence but do not watch any live sky or tv but can still get programmes on demand for sky channels?
I suppose you could have it installed but only use the app. If sky starts snitching to the BBC, it might get a bit suspicious when you have had breakdowns repaired on your sky box.
If you do not watch any live programmes, on Sky or terrestrial tv, then you do not need a licence.
criminal for looking at corrie - crazy stuff
11/09/2023
YES AGREED you will be fined and taken to court if you are caught but if you don't even open your door to them ignore all their threatening letters and of course make sure nobody can see your TV from outside your house then what can they do or how can they catch you?
I thought not paying was no longer a criminal offence, so how did she get a criminal record - did she not pay the fine?
Licence evasion is a criminal offence but it’s not a recordable offence , it’s not PNC recorded and considered spent after 12 months ,, Failing to pay any fine is both a criminal and recordable offence ,
I get it, i just think people need a list of examples of what they can and can't watch.
Nobody needs any examples at all. Why would they? You just watch whatever you want, whenever you want. There is absolute nothing they can do about it. They have no idea what you may or may not be watching. TV Licensing are only acting in this way because they know their number's up in 2027, when their Charter comes up for renewal, and in the meantime they're doing all they can to rip people off. Don't be fooled, but more importantly do not pay..
Hi Jon. Can you just clarify? Is TV Licensing (the organisation) part of the BBC and totally funded by the BBC (paying for all those stamps!), or is it funded by government and therefore another part of the BBC's public funding as it's sole purpose is to collect money for the BBC?
TV licensing is sub-contracted to Capita.
@@mda5003 Thanks for trying to clarify, although I know Capita do the work. My question is who pays Capita - government or (as it should be) the BBC because in effect TV Licensing/Capita are the debt collectors for the BBC?
@@ianlister4729 The BBC is responsible for collecting the licence fee.
@@mda5003 So, just to be clear, you're saying everything about TV Licensing (costs of staffing, premises, advertising, etc) is paid for by the BBC, and in effect it's a department of the BBC under the directorship of Tim Davy?
@@ianlister4729 It gets a little complicated but Section 365 of the Communications Act 2003 requires the BBC to pay all licence fee revenue it collects into the Government’s Consolidated Fund. TV Licensing doesn’t retain any of the licence fee revenue it collects; all monies are passed to the Government, and then the revenue collected is passed back to the BBC as Grant-in-Aid. For further information look up the BBC's Royal Charter agreement.
door opens "TV licencing" reply OK but I'm TG not TV so I don't need to be licenced. Door Closes. Puzzled goon tries to work it out
Or me. 45 years without a TV licence......
Watching Coronation Street is worthy of sectioning, nevermind prosecution.
If a goon asks your name tell them it's Theo Q Pier ;).
Theo Cupier... it is a real name too, internet search will reveal.
Some sky packages go through the internet I think
I would of thought that if you pay for a sky package and sky is broadcasting it on their site then you should be able to watch sky!!! and i would also of thought that either sky would put a notice saying you need to pay extra to watch a certain program or would of had some agreement with the BBC allowing them to broadcast the program, it all seems like a massive con!!!
Bit odd got a sky package and could not afford to get a licence if she was watching TV suspect
Yea lke my late sister who would be in her mid 60's now, never tried using a Smart Phone, or Computer.....did'nt know what on demand TV was.....But I find things hard, like internet banking....BTW she paid her licence by weekly installments.
I go round my friends house to watch a game or the boxing (coughs).
Kodi.........
Wherever the BBC has its claws stuck into where you can't avoid it, then you have to pay a license.
The BBC broadcasts on the satellite that broadcasts Sky channels, you need a license.
The BBC was desperate to capture the internet, but a loophole was created and the internet became a safe haven to legally not buy a TV licence as the BBC iPlayer is hidden behind a registration wall. The BBC tried every trick in the book to avoid a registration wall stating the technology wasn't available, yet it was pointed out Netflix etc has been using this technology for years. The BBC lost the argument and the ability to license the internet.
The future is subscription for the BBC.
