Good explanation. It's hard to believe some labels do not have recommended hook or needle size. I've not come across it yet, however now I've seen this I bet I will 🤣 I do similar with the hook and yarn placement at the hook end but also the feel when crocheting with it. So yeah basically what you did. The other is if I know the yarn size I start with the average hook for that yarn.

quite opposite here, everything i come across didn't have hook size info 😭 so far i try to make a 2 small row to determine if i like the way it looks. when I'm not satisfied with it, i redo. quite a hassle actually. at one point i thought of doing the same but it didn't end up as nice.. with this tut i think i can get a knack of it.

These is wonderful thank you! I was gifted free yarn that labels were not with said yarn and i just bought recently yarn that did not have the recommended hook size so thank you so much for this advice. (I am new to crochet)
