    I've been looking for a chart that shows all the different ways used to refer to hook sizes and found this old video of yours with the link to the chart on your website. Thank you for providing the best chart I've found! Incidentally it's also easy to work out the diameter if you know the circumference, You can use the basic formula we learned in school, d = c/π (that's pi) or just use one of the online tools available. I'm sticking with your very useful chart!

My favorite when I need some like an ternizen hook is a brand call Denise. They are interchangeable. I have both a cricket set and a knitting set. I have both my sister and my knitting set.

    Hello I really enjoy your tutorials and feel truly blessed to have found this one about the crocheted in Needles and knitting needles. Unfortunately I have no knitting needles due to the fact that I have been a advocate crochet. So I hope there comes a day and time that I might get a chance to win some knitting needles. Maybe sometime in the near future you'll have a giveaway giving me a chance to win some of those beautiful needles I see in this tutorial. Thank you for being someone who cares to give others a chance to know how.

      Hi Tina! Knitting is a lot of fun too, in fact I started knitting before crochet :) Most of my knitting needles are hand-me-downs from friends (and their grandmothers) and I've also found several sets in second hand stores! Thrift stores are a great place to look for crochet and knitting supplies (especially if you're on a tight budget!)

    Thank you Jada for the tutorial. I couldn’t comprehend circumference and diameter (duh). Now I know! Also what’s the difference between the skinny silver steel hooks n our regular hooks?

    • @JaydaInStitches
      @JaydaInStitches  Рік тому +1

      Hi Margie! The skinny steel hooks are typically super tiny hooks (like 1.50 mm 😲) usually used for thread crochet. They make them out of steel to make them stronger and less likely to snap. A plastic thread crochet hook would snap in a second and an aluminum one might bend. In fact, I'm sure it would! I have old aluminum knitting needles that are very small in diameter (3.00 mm and less) and they all have a bit of a bow to them from years of use.

Cheer practices have also started again. I'm slowly starting to crochet again. • @JaydaInStitches
      @JaydaInStitches  11 місяців тому +1

      Either either the hole on your measuring device or the hooks could be out .25mm or it's merely that they rounded up or down when labeling. .25mm is so small it makes very little difference 😊

I'm sight impaired and the writing on some needles is so small I have a hard time seeing it. and others rub off. When using the needle size gauge do you go by the hole that the needles goes into easily or the hole where the needles goes in to the part where the tip starts? How do they measure the length of cable needles? Is it just the cable length or the length from one needle tip to the other?

    • @JaydaInStitches
      @JaydaInStitches  5 років тому +2

      Hi Tracy, you want to run your hook through the last hole which it will fit through up to the thumb depression on the handle. Cable needles are measured from tip to tip :)

    • @JaydaInStitches
      @JaydaInStitches  Рік тому +1

      Hi! We're glad it was helpful! At that size, the difference is so minimal I'm not sure it has a crazy difference on tension or stitch size. I would use the one that is most comfortable in that case 😊

      @@JaydaInStitches Thank you! I have been wondering why they would even make crochet hooks with that little of a difference, as I agree with what you said. I think the minimum should be 1/2 mm in difference. I have actually seen one that stated 3.125 mm (!!)

      Hi Kate, that's definitely a manufacturer thing. I've noticed that sizing varies from one country to another, for example, I often use a 4.25 mm hook, but the same hook made in other countries is marketed as 4.5 mm or even 4.0 mm. The fraction of a millimeter honestly won't make a gigantic difference over all in the size of a project (our personal stitch tension alone means that two crocheters could use the exact same hook and yarn and get two totally different sizes) so you could use that 5.25 hook in place of your 5.5 mm for sure.

      Thanks, Jada....Kind of what I figured, and have been using them with success If it is too tight, I go up a size. Love your videos, making a sunflower granny sq afghan now. I looked for your facebook site and didn't find it.

    You can measure the circumference and divide by 2 as well.

    • @JaydaInStitches
      @JaydaInStitches  8 років тому +1

      Hi Melissa, if you find measuring the circumference easier, you have to divide by Pi (or 3.14) to get the diameter :)

    I sorry I am confused. Your tape measure is showing cm, but you are saying mm. Please explain. Thank you

    • @JaydaInStitches
      @JaydaInStitches  Рік тому

      Hi Carol, 1 cm = 10 mm. Hooks and knitting needles are so small that they are measured in mm vs cm. A mm is so small that a measuring tape does not typically show/list measurements in mm, but rather cm. If you know that something measures half a cm, then you know it's 5 mm. i.e. A typical hook (5.50 mm) would look like it's covering just a smidgen over the half a cm mark. I hope that helps 😊

      Hi Yasiradell, if you're looking to purchase a couple of crochet hooks and you don't have any so far, I would recommend that you pick up one that is 5.50 mm and one that is around 4.50 mm (sometimes it's 4.25mm but they're very similar). These get used most frequently with worsted weight yarn (size 4 yarn). Another good size to have is a 3.50 mm because it works very nicely with slightly thinner yarn like baby weight yarn (size 3 yarn). I hope that helps!

    Why do crochet hooks have letters on them? Thanks.

    • @JaydaInStitches
      @JaydaInStitches  7 років тому

      Hi Kerry, the sizing of hooks has varied from country to country and from decade to decade. Once manufactures started selling their hooks and needles to other countries, they soon learned that they had to include the local comparative sizes on their wares, or no one would understand what they were buying (since their patterns would call for a certain hook size G or possibly a 6). We don't have a universal hook and needle sizing chart (just yet) but it looks like much of the world is moving towards accepting the actual measurements (in most cases, mm) since it's a more accurate description of the hook size :)

    just wrap yarn around the hook, hold your place on the yarn and spread it out on the tape/ruler and you'll know the diameter

      @JaydaInStitches  6 років тому

      Hi Donna, that's a wool needle, they're so much easier to thread than a standard one! If you can't find any in your local craft stores, we have links on our website on the SHOP page (link is in the description box to our website) to a couple of sets of three, that you can order on line. Just scroll down the page and you'll find them :)

    • @JaydaInStitches

      Hi Vesta, you can measure the needle part with your measuring tape, the length of plastic tubing in between is less important (this is just so you can make hats, sweaters and blankets).

    do you have a tutorial on how to use the cabled crochet hooks. I have one and would love to use it however I've only seen one video in someone usi ng it but not saying how (they were making a graphghan with it)

    • @JaydaInStitches
      @JaydaInStitches  8 років тому

      Hi Char, I have a tutorial on making a simple Tunisian stitch dishcloth. In it I use a straight afghan crochet hook (rather than a cable). The cable hook is a longer, more flexible and less cumbersome way of using a straight afghan hook. You might find it helpful :) You can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/ezmIJStrlV0/v-deo.html
