I am 66 and I dont even bother any more to make new friends. A problem I have had since I was a teenager was that girlfriends and later wives would create drama to isolate their man from his friends. That again happened to me 3 years ago, a male friends wife was banging a work colleague and my wife who worked with her told me. I did not get involved as they always shoot the messenger. He downloaded a BMW tracker app onto his phone and caught her in a park car park with this married man. He stopped our friendship because he says that I should have told him. You cant win. I am retired but do a little bit of taxi driving locally here in England, that gets me chatting to the public. I just accept that being a man is a lonely path in life and I am comfortable with that, enjoying the wisdom of old age and the inner tranquility.

John: I am sorry to hear that has been your experience. While I have absolutely experienced the drama you have described, luckily I guess, I have not experienced the loss of friends in the manner you described.
Thank you for sharing your experiences. All the best.
