I have been married for 53 yrs, then my husband passed away 3 yrs ago, and I love living alone. I got married in the era when, if you are not married by 22, you are an old maid. My husband was very conservative, a woman's place is at home, raising kids and taking care of the house, waiting on him hand and foot. For 50 yrs he got breakfast in bed, until he retired. That's when I said no more. Now I am alone and loving it! I have garden services to take care of the lawn and the rest I do myself. Silver and solo is the best! ❤

I'm about to turn 61 and have lived alone now for 8 years (not for the first time) and will never go back to sharing my space. My favorite things about living alone are the fact that I am only responsible for myself, I can come and go as I please and make any kind of plans to do anything I want without having to consider anyone else. I can eat what I want when I want. I also love the fact that when I'm working on a project I don't have clean up until I'm ready...2 hours, 2 days or 2 weeks. I also love that I can decorate for my taste only. I just overall love that I don't have to concern myself with pleasing anyone else. I love never having to hear anything ( tv, music, talking) that I don't want to hear. I can clean my house whenever I want...6 am or midnight, my choice. I can also pay someone else to do it if I just don't feel like it, or I'm too busy. Same with the yard work. I can do it or hire it out.
By the way, I'm loving your content and just wanted to say thanks for representing!

Got divorced in 1974, raised my son, and was in the workforce 50+ years. Retired owning 2 homes (sold my house in the city after I retired, and moved 5 years ago). With my 401k/IRA, SS, and pension, I am financially secure and debt free. I took it a step further than most people living alone, by moving to my rural wooded acreage, with no close neighbor's (was raised rural). I learned years ago, that having a bad neighbor within a stones throw could impact my quality of life, and you never know when the wrong person will buy the house next door to you. I have friend's, family, but no one just "pops" in. I worked for decades to live the lifestyle I now have, and I'm loving it!

Bought new furniture new car new decor new dishes new pots it’s all my own . I’m happier after 44 yrs of marriage. I come and go travel road trip spa days or just stay home and cook clean read exercise. The grounds are beautiful flowers shrubs trees. We have a clubhouse pool gym . It’s quiet I hear no one . I am happier alone I have friends when I want to see them . Great daughter 36 a few miles away. I am taking g care of me now . Im middle class worked our whole lives I just choose to start fresh . I am in the middle of making those same decisions. I want to just sell it all, everything except my clothes and electronics ( I work from home and have to take the computers/monitors with me ) and find someplace far away that fits my needs, wants and desire. Where I live now was my husband's dream, not mine. Since he has passed away I want to live my dream. So kudos to you for making that change and living where you desire.

I am 78 but in good health and young at heart. I recently lost my husband to dementia following several years of progressive decline and thus several years for me as ‘caregiver.’ Now, you just KNOW I am ready for this ‘living alone’ experience and the freedom that comes with it. But I think it really boils down to the difference between introverts and extroverts. We introverts so value our ‘alone’ time…we don’t have the same need as extroverts to be always in the company of (ie connecting with) other humans. We like to think, reflect, consider, ponder, etc. in our own minds. We are resourceful, independent people. We thrive on peace and quiet vs. chaos. Of course we’re going to love living alone…it totally suits our nature. 👍

I too am 78 and dealing with dementia with my partner of 21 years. I'm conflicted about the future. Sometime in the next 3 years or so, I have been told that Steve will be gone. I've lived alone before, and that prospect does t bother me. I look forward to not having to make decisions for another person, hoping that I have done the right things. I hate seeing the decline of a beautiful intellectual man, who now struggles for words, ideas and sits most of the day in a chair staring into space or sleeping. There are just so many unknowns and that is unsettling to me.

I believe I am recognising that I'm an introvert through your videos and the fabulous and interesting comments that you get.
My number one solo blessing is sleep silence. I'm a terrible sleeper and my deceased partner said I would wake up if he moved his little finger. So I absolutely relish not having anyone else in my bed. In fact I'm sitting here writing this being very mindful of how lucky I am to live in an extremely quiet area but close to the water and a super little portside village in the South of France.
To be honest the only thing I miss is a cuddle..... but the benefits of solo living certainly outweigh the alternative.

My husband is 84 and I am 66. He has dementia AND metastatic prostate cancer. I have been taking care of him for the last 8 years and feel like my early retirement years when I will be the healthiest are being taken from me. The cancer is progressing faster than the dementia and he will probably be gone in the next year or so. I love him and I miss him (he has been gone a long time) but honestly, I can’t wait to be on my own.

I have lived alone for 35 years and I love it. I'm a77 year old female and the best part of living alone is living alone AND being retired. Living alone for whatever reason makes your life about you. It's what YOU want. It's about YOUR needs. It's about YOUR freedom. When another woman says, aren't you afraid of living alone? That tells me THEY are afraid of living alone. Unfortunately, a lot of women have bought into the notion that they have to have a man around, so they put up with some loser, just so they can feel protected. How you live your life is up to you. Don't live it in fear. It's a waste of your time and energy. You can love someone without living with them. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it. Live your life like it's your last day on earth. Fill it with attitude and gratitude. Be well. : )

You and I could be great friends and neighbors. Having lunch, coffee, or tea once in awhile with an interesting person would be great but I don’t need constant entertainment. If I see you once a month for an hour it’s fine! No knocking on doors and dropping in uninvited just to “chat”. Sometimes people just get too clingy and need constantly to go out to eat, to the movies, go shopping. Geez, the last thing on my mind is shopping! And with another female! Ugh! I have a friend who wants to walk with me. No thanks. I enjoy the peace and quiet of nature when in it, not some chatty person walking beside me. Personally, I can’t think of anything to say to the same person day after day, every day, for an hour walk! Haha! I have to say, I’d love to have a special male friend to do things with but he’d have to have his own home. 😊

My #1 reason is I don’t have to tip toe around and make everyone else happy. I’m an introvert , but also have a trauma background with CPTSD, so not having to walk on egg-shells is such a relief and comfort and a feeling of safety for me. And if I feel like dancing around the house to 70’s Disco, no one is music-shaming me.

I live alone, and I am extremely happy and content. I don’t know why people have such a hard time believing we could be content while living alone. I love being able to decorate my house as pastel and girly as I like! I love eating what I want when I want, I absolutely adore having the bathroom to myself. And when I leave my house and spotless, I know I’m coming home to a spotless house as well. If I have leftovers in the fridge when I go to work, I know they are still there when I get home. I’m enjoying your videos.

In my young single years I never had a room mate. Always solo. Since my divorce, again, solo. I’m not a high earner, affording living alone on my income is a struggle. But I choose to live alone so I’m making it happen. My favorite- I can take a nap, bubble bath, tinker with plants on my little balcony, write in my journal, do crafts, without someone judging me or criticizing. After a lifetime of people pleasing and walking on eggshells to keep the peace this freedom, agency and peace is priceless.

I'm a 53 year old GenXer, I never got married, it didn't seem like the right choice for me but when I went to weddings, I would, almost always, get a comment like "Oh it'll happen for you one day, don't worry." I started wanting to live alone when I was 7 and discovered I could think about thinking and control my world. I am a total introvert and must control my little part of the world-no music, no TV, definitely never talk radio, the toilet paper roll is always the correct direction. The temperature is to my liking. I leave the thermostat on 78 in summer and 75 in winter. Works for me. If there is a dirty cup in the sink, I left it there. The toilet seat is never left up. I don’t play well with others. Living alone means, I don’t have to unless I’m in the mood.

Happy birthday! How bizarre that they would tell you that they think your life is sad! As a single woman, I have always been surprised by how many opinions people share with me as though I asked to hear them. I never asked for your feedback. Do you tell your "sad" uncle or male cousin what you think of their lives? Unless you've got a travel or catcare tip, keep it to yourself. Also, extroverts are exhausting. They always have to be entertained, few extroverts have imaginations.

I also love living alone. The last 14 years have been genuinely all me! My son is almost 31 and settled with a great woman and I couldn’t be more thankful for that. Everything else is for me. The remote is all mine. I get to watch whatever I want. Bought a new bed 6 years ago and love that NOBODY else has slept in it but ME. Got a toothless 8 yr old cat at the shelter 2 yrs ago through their Cats For Seniors program and she’s a sweet girl. I have decorated my home for me. I started gardening at 58 years old and love it. I did all of it by myself- flowers, vegetable patch, bird feeders and pea gravel patio. I became vegan 5 years ago and nobody can bitch about it. I love the quiet. I love that I can nap when I want. I still work part time but it’s for my bff, for my own extra income and it’s only 7 minutes from home. The pluses of this life at this age are huge. Wouldn’t change a single thing about my life. You are showing in videos exactly what this is about. Kudos from Ottawa, Ontario 💞

I think those people are just not happy in themselves, and they dont understand how you can be. Its a form of jealously. They spend their whole lives using other people to cover up their loneliness and never truly know who they are. Not knowing who you are must be an isolating and lonely experience.

I've lived alone for 16 years and love it so much. However, recently because of a complicated house move I was forced to go live with family for four months - they were so kind and generous to me, and I am truly grateful that they came to my rescue, but honestly, it was hell. All the things you said and so many more. The noise one is the biggest for me, I love silence and nature noises, but I had to spend 4 months listening to a household where there is always someone making noise, even throughout the night. Now I'm in my new place and I love and appreciate the solitude so much more. One you didn't mention is that I can wash my clothes whenever I feel like it without finding someone else's there because they washed them and then forgot them! Thanks for the video!

I rarely comment, yet here I am, twice in one day, ha! Anyway, I've lived alone for decades now and I enjoy it also! Some of your reasons are the same as mine, but my big ones are that I can walk around the house naked if I want, I can sleep in on the weekends, I can put off household chores, and I don't feel an urgency to HAVE to immediately clean cat fur off furniture etc. Also, I allow the cats to walk on the counters, I can go #2 in the bathroom and not worry about someone else smelling it, I can take my bra off and fling it on the back of the couch as soon as I get home and not worry about it, I can do my own thing with my time in my own space, etc... I could go on and on here! You are SO relatable, I just love you to pieces! Have a wonderful day!

I am 56 years old and have been a widow for a year now, living alone. I have to be honest and say that there are times I feel lonely and miss my dear husband greatly. I miss the face to face conversation, the tender moments we had and having someone to go places with. Jenn, your reasons for being alone are exactly what is on my list. No more caring for someone else, only having to cook for me ( I rarely cook now, the microwave is my best friend ). I no longer have to clean up someone else's mess. I get to make my own decisions and have total control over my life. The cost of living is so much cheaper when it is just me. My Yorkie is now focused solely on me instead being by my husbands side 24/7. I can eat what I want, when I want. Go where I want or just stay home and be lazy. I can go to bed when I want and wake up when I want ( this is a huge plus after being a constant caregiver for 3+ years ).

In any event, as challengi as it sometimes is, I prefer sharing my life. I have a husband, a young adult son, n an aging mother. They need care and attention. Linak7155 reply. Jen comes from a place of her own experience and she shares that with us openly, the trials, failures and triumphs. In the end, her messages are intended to encourage and uplift and there is always positivity. I appreciate that. I have also learned from her experience. Life is in a state of flux for all of us from the time we enter this world until we leave it. We all come from different backgrounds and are faced with choices and opportunities sometimes shaped by those backgrounds. As humans and women we share some commonalities in life. But, no two paths are exactly the same. I don't judge or begrudge others who had choices and opportunities different than mine. But, my story is my own. So is Jen's. Like you I married, had children and cared for my elderly mother. I don't regret any of those choices no matter how difficult they were at times.I've been where you are. I applaud your strength, wisdom and dedication. I hope along the way, you manage to carve out a few minutes to just breathe, be you and replenish your spirit. It's difficult to be there for all the others in your life if you are running on empty physically, mentally or spiritually. While my path more closely mirrors yours than Jen's, I wouldn't change those choices along the way because they helped shape who I am today at 70, which is true of all of us even if you aren't 70 yet. Having said that, I enjoy my freedom today. I have shared that in several comments here. For the first time in my life I can breathe and have found myself, who I truly am on my own, and a peace I've never known living alone. Whatever lies ahead in your life, I wish you these things as well. Jen is sharing hers with us, I am sharing mine with others, every step of the way being grateful. May God bless us each and every one. 🥲

I said, I love the quiet. I need the quiet. It was like I worked in a nightclub, loud thumping music. People all over the place. Working in the salons I've worked in was like working in a nightclub every day. And you just want to come home to peace and quiet and yes I love living alone. AND my parents gave us white noise machines when we were young so we could fall asleep easier. And I can't sleep without one. It is like silence to me. It's like a white noise type of silence. Now, about living alone. I like muting TV commercials. No one around to complain about it 😊 like the line Spencer Tracy says in Desk Set, the best part of living alone is "nobody tells you anything". You don't have negative vibes emanating from anyone. That's SO WONDERFUL!

Well I can do housework when I can. I can cook or make something that I can. I can take my nap and pills without having to give a reason. There's peace, less laundry etc. There's more things but I learn slowly what it is. 😅

I like listening to music in the car and I like being the one choosing the music I'm listening to. So I'm mainly listening to CD's instead of the radio while I'm driving. At home I like lots of silence like you do. If I'm not watching a video or movie most of the time my house is silent except for the sounds of the wind and nature outside. A couple of times a week I will listen to 4-5 songs I choose on youtube. I will put the radio on to get the most local weather updates if bad weather is potentially going to be in my area. Otherwise the radio is off.

Gosh Jen, so very happy to have found you and your wonderful videos. I’m silver and solo and when you try and explain why I’m enjoying being silver and solo .. people loose their minds !
One of my favorite things about living alone is.. I can come home from work and get into my pajamas at 5:30pm, if I want to and explain to no one 😊
I love and agree with all of your reasons.. keep the great videos coming!!

Been living alone since my divorce 6 years ago. In addition to leaving the dishes in the sink, I don’t have to clean the house every day, or shower every day or do the laundry. Granted, I do those things, I just don’t have to rush and do them. The real big advantage of living alone is that I can literally sleep/nap whenever I want to. For some reason, my ex hated it when I would sleep in or take naps. Thanks for your videos!

I'm 35 and have been living alone for 10 years. I love being able to walk around with as much or as little clothes on as I feel like. I love being able to convert my living room into a workroom and have just a small part set aside for entertaining and the rest of the space is there for my use. I love being able to have fun adult time by myself whenever I want, any time of the day I want.

I never knew the blessings of being alone until I turned 50. Ohh, the lessons I’ve learned since then! If you marry the wrong person, it’ll turn your world upside down. You’re very blessed to have not fallen for the marriage trap.
    1 Corinthians 7:8 (KJV)
8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, it is good for them if they abide even as I.

I lived alone for 6 years, and I loved it! I remarried in 2008 and I have been married ever since. While my husband and I have been together 19 years, we are no longer a married couple in love. We are now separated, yet still living together due to both of our finances. If I could afford to be on my own again, believe me I would be, but it's just not possible at this time. I absolutely loved living alone. I can turn the heat up or down when I want, I can turn the ac up and down when I want. I fix and eat whatever I want. I don't have anyone to answer to. I love the quiet and peacefulness in the house. I have two dogs and they are all I need. I love that I can blast music when I want or have it quiet with no noise when I want. I like not having to pick after a messy person. There are so many things I love about being alone. Only alone time I get now is when my husband goes to work, and I cherish that alone time. Looking forward to the day when I can be completely alone again, with the exception of my sweet dogs.

Jen, I love and relate to every one of your terms. I am over 70, married to a nice man-and I live alone. By choice. I just don’t want to spend another minute, (of either of our precious lives), bickering, bargaining, compromising or resenting. We get together once a week and we’re both fine with that.

The perfect relationship. I’ve always said the perfect husband or boyfriend would be one that lived not more than a half an hour away, but not so close that they could just drive by your house, and be someone that if you want to go out to dinner you just call him up and say let’s go out to dinner, or just hang out with no more than once a week
