When I took early retirement at age 56, I was overweight and out of shape. I started going to exercise classes. I go to an exercise class 5 days a week. During the pandemic, I consulted with a nutritionist and started a food plan which I still follow. I'm very happy with my food plan. I am very well nourished. My father, who was in frail health his last 2 years, had my brother and me to assist him. I am alone. I don't have children to depend on. I must keep mobile as I age. I think it's important to keep socially, physically and intellectually active as I age. I also believe service, any kind, is important. In addition to exercise classes, I have 4 volunteer gigs and go to a book club and take other classes. I travel (which is how I found your channel). I quit using "have to" when I realized it made me feel like a victim. I'm not. I make choices. When I quit using "have to" it made me feel so much better. Downtime is especially important for us introverts. Great vid!
I'm 72 and solo (widowed) for almost 7 years now. One of my favorite things is sitting on my back porch hearing and watching the wind in the trees and the bayou flowing by, not to mention the alligator who passing by occasionally. I don't really leave home very much but I do go to Planet Fitness 3 mornings a week. I used to be a truck driver so I love my home time now. I'm very happy with my cat and my hobbies and spending time with my son and his family who live next door. As my grandpa used to say, It's a wonderful life when you don't give up.
Oh, and ‘allowing’ myself to read during the day. Having been told to ‘ get my nose out of that book’ as a youngster, it’s a hard habit to develop, but I get such joy from losing myself in other lives, learning new things and generally being entertained without a screen.
I am so thrilled to hear that you only want positive social media! We all need to do that, and get away from all the negative news & low class commentaries. Thanks! ❤
I am a 73 y o solo woman. I don’t do sports but I walk my dog twice daily, enjoy learning new things, and spend time with friends. I have many neighbors in their 80s. I watch as they lose the option to drive, must use a walker to get around and eventually cannot live alone. This is my motivation to stay active.
Good on you! I am 57 and have a lack of energy that has haunted me all my life. I go for a few short walks a day, 5 squats, 10 sit to stands, 4 bridges - on my bed. I love improving myself. Life is great!
@@geraldinetoughey9622Same, sometimes my depression sucks the motivation. I am not vegan but prices in Australia 🇦🇺 are skyrocketing so I am trying to cook from scratch and freeze etc. I sit too long and I know this but cannot seem to work up the motivation to walk 😂 🇦🇺💜
@@missymurphy9002 Nothing motivates me better than walking a dog. My own rescue lioes her walks. If she weren’t in my life I’d consider offering to walk a neighbor’s dog. Observing nature and the changing seasons feeds my soul. ❤
At over 70 I can say that healthy habits I've developed are napping, eating mostly meatless meals, going to bed early and getting up before sunrise. Socially, I've opened our home to hikers (We live near a major hiking trail - the PCT ) and for 6 months of each year hikers from all over the world stay with us for a day or two. In the last 2 months we've hosted over 50 hikers. Some injured hikers have stayed up to two weeks. We now have hikers coming back to visit us when they're in California! Never had children so these hikers have become our kids. My husband hates to travel so I take solo trips with my tiny trailer when I need some healthy me time away. I meet girlfriends for lunch often and love just puttering around the house. I actually find grocery shopping entertaining! There are always people to chat with in grocery isles. We have 4 dogs and I know that is very good for our mental health. My husband spends most of the day in his workshop restoring vintage tractors and chatting with his tractor buddies on the Internet. The Internet is a wonderful place for chatting with like-minded people and learning new things. I follow video blogs of hikers, scientists, philosophers and watch 70s music videos. I've changed my musical tastes by listening to groups of various genres and it really has been mentally stimulating! Since Covid, we've made a big change to how we socialize. We completely stopped socializing with couples! We now just have our own friends rather than try to adapt to couples. That was a big positive change for us both. And we stopped going to "parties". Both of us are introverts who prefer staying home. Retirement has allowed us to make most of these positive changes. We are enjoying the heck out of being retired!
Hi! I hope you see this! Are you by chance in Northern California? I also Love hosting, have degrees in philosophy, am plant-based……and you sound interesting. Would you be open to chatting? I’d love to hear your stories! 💕🌈
I'm 66 and went plant-based 14 months ago and the difference is night and day. You'll find your energy levels are significantly higher. Amazing what our bodies can do with the right fuel.
It’s always so interesting to realize how individual each of us are! I’m almost the opposite (food-wise) of your diet. I’m 65, went keto at 62 and then low-carb last year, and I have more energy and feel better than I have in years. I live on a farm, so I keep very active, especially at this time of year. I wonder if the farm chores I do regularly require more protein and fat? Anyway, it just struck me how everyone is so different - I’m very happy that plant-based works so well for you!!
I love your list of new healthy habits, and I am 59 years old. I have gotten really good during the past couple years of doing nothing. Now for me, this has included sitting and watching movies, UA-cam videos and scrolling on my phone as well as putting together jigsaw puzzles, reading books And hanging out with my dog. Some people may not consider that doing nothing, but it is a huge change change from my previous feeling of having to accomplish things and do projects every day. I’m getting really good at it! I also do the actual nothing by sitting at campfires many evenings. now, I am not solo. I have a husband, but I do a lot of solo activities for my own mental health.
When my daughter went off to college I used to send her a text at a random time every day. It said “Stretch. Moisturise”. Many years later she told me how lovely it was knowing that I thought of her, and that I didn’t want to know what she was doing every minute of the day!
First of all, love your channel! I'm 63 and about 5 months ago I began a regular yoga practice. It has really helped with balance, flexibility, and most of all, a commitment to a healthy habit. In addition, I started lifting weights on a regular basis. After just a few months, I have muscle tone again! To me, the mental health benefit is just as important as the physical benefit. It's not so easy when you're in your sixties, especially if you have never been a lover of exercise, but the reward is so sweet. Best wishes in finding a studio and building a new community. I hope you love it!
You are a minimalist. Minimalism isn't cutting down to 4 plates and 6 books. It's about ridding yourself of the things that cause you stress. Like that shed in my back yard that things go to wait for the day I may find a use for them. It gets stressful and I need to take a whole day to clean and get rid of "stuff" that I should have gotten out of my life long ago. All your books and treasures make you happy so it is YOUR minimalism. Getting rid of the things you love would be stressful. 😊 Love your channel and will be checking out some of the sites you suggested 😊
I think your ‘GET TO’ attitude is powerful! I just tried it out when I walked to the grocery store because I had to give up my 20 year old car. I told myself that I “GET TO” have exercise. You’re definitely on to something, by golly! 👍
It’s funny (in a good way) how we all turn corners in our life and change our ways… I’ve been plant based most all my life and I just recently discovered that meat tastes good and when it’s been grass feed and grass finished, it’s good for my body. So that’s my new adventure. Also, I’ve become a human-being (sit for a while, look around outside and do nothing) instead of a human-always-doing. What a nice and content feeling it gives me 😃 Happy thoughts!
Good morning! New sub here (54 yo)! Love your content! As far as new habits go, you mentioned a few that I am working on: plant-based eating, and stretching. I also want to spend more time reading books. Just ten pages per day. Also, as a supplement to your positive mindset, I want to be more careful about who I associate with. I only want supportive and uplifting people in my life. A very good friend reminds me regularly that I will become like the five people I associate with most often. Looking forward to watching more! Take care! ✌️❤️
I love your channel! I am a meat eater who has gotten into meatless meals and if you like Indian food, I highly recommend tandoori cauliflower. It's easy and simple! Also I am really into gratitude and I LOVE your "get to" brain hack. I am a voluntarily single 40yo woman and I'm constantly trying to remember to be grateful for all the small things. The tiniest things have to be remembered. I'm grateful for your channel, it's such a shining light of positivity. ❤
There are soooooo many options that are plant based. I'm a pescatarian and have been for 25 years; I'm 54. However, about 75 percent of my meals are vegetarian. My health is excellent compared to my peers . It's worth it.
I’ve opted for the carnivore diet because I find I feel much better and have much more energy on an all-meat diet. I also walk my German Shepherd on most days and exercise 30 minutes at least 5 days a week. At my age of 69, proper diet and exercise is a definite requirement. Gardening, household chores and mowing my lawn are also great exercise.
I was bed bound but since going carnivore I only need my wheelchair for longer walks. I had to get rid of all the vegetables I was eating before a lot of my joint pain went away. I wasn’t even eating packaged foods, it was the carbs and veg making me sick. Oxalates
79: I’ve created a yoga series that works for me and I can do at home. Most important part is getting down and up safely without any tools - like a chair. If I ever fall while walking a trail I can get up alone and without anything to pull or push from. Nice video/mindset.
Hi Jen. I like your attitude towards your solo life. You’re a very strong woman and I appreciate that right now in my life. Keep inspiring us with your great vibes. Tell us more about your cute dog please!
Hi Sydney! Skye is a mini Bernedoodle, she's 3 years old and I got her from a local breeder on the Island. She and her big sister Quinn (the cat) get along quite well and guard my house and yard for me...except they allow rabbits to overrun my garden for some reason...
My mindset began to change when I started reading the bible "whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy, think on these things" (Philippians 4:8). Thanks, Jen. I too, am blessed!
Love your very informative videos. You are very encouraging, uplifting, pleasant, inspiring, and so much more. I, too am an introvert and I will be 72 in January. God is so good to me and keeps me in great health. I have never been athletic, so I find other was to remain active, such as continuing to work with young children, choosing not to have a washer and dryer, so that I must go to the laundromat every three weeks. 😊. I also do physical therapy about every 2-3 years and I have a chiropractor once a week. All in all I am in a good place. Thank you. Blessings to you and thank you for being a Blessing to me and I am sure so many others.😊
I am 71 and went plant based in 2013. I had some health concerns and I wanted to see if I felt better. the first year was a struggle to find recipes for meals that I would enjoy. I had no interest in eating salad everyday and I wanted to bake my favourite recipes. So long story much abbreviated it is 11 years later, I do feel better and so I stayed with it. That's just my story and I'm not encouraging anyone to follow that same idea. people should do what's best for them. Enjoy hearing your thoughts with these videos. Ty4 all the group recs!
You’re a natural storyteller. It’s a gift. Your descriptive imagery. I’m using it on my new UA-cam channel. Plus your pacing and tone. Thank you. Also, meat causes inflammation and it’s even worse when coupled with simple processed carbs. The effect on the body, that is. Im the same. Lots of one-ingredient foods. All the time. That’s the trick. Most things can have just one ingredient. Cutting out the inflammation-causing foods has played a tremendous dose in my mobility. I couldn’t even walk this time last year. Literally ..
Coincidentally (or not), I was just searching for new positive sites to help keep me from all my stress-inducing doomsday-scrolling and here you are ! Thanks from me, 60 and solo
Going vegan saved my life, highly recommend to avoid heart disease, cancers, diabetes etc. plus it’s better for the environment and animals. Forks Over Knives has awesome recipes and info, too 😊👍
I started yoga a year and a half ago and I can’t believe how much it’s helped my joints and made me less likely to get injured… I hope you find the right one ☺️
Love your channel! I match your sentiments about veggies! Pick up limes has a gorgeous ap for meal planning but their channel is great wrth recipes. Rainbow plantlife is good. She gives pdfs with her recipes i think. I'm 44... my housemate from whom i rent, is 90... she's a yoga teacher and can literally run circles around me. But it's gentle not a sporty vinyasa. Be well! Thank you for being a great inspiration!
My favorite is “accepting help” . How many times have we helped others during our younger years. It’s a double blessing when we accept offers for help. Also, you are wise to know your limitations and not risk possibly hurting yourself. Thank you Jen from the Panhandle of Florida .
Smarter not harder really hit home! I am Do It Myself Peg and really love doing almost everything myself. It is good to accept help now and then. Great advice!!
My favorite meatless meal is a thin crust pizza with onions, mushrooms and black olives. The exercise I added is a walking pad that I use 3 times a day. I don't watch TV other than to get a weather report and I minimize contact with negative people.
@@deniserichard5613 it is similar to a treadmill but doesn't incline and doesn't go as fast as a treadmill. Light enough that it's easy to move if necessary.
@@deniserichard5613 I purchased a Citysports walking pad from Amazon. If you put it on a carpeted floor you will need to put something underneath to protect the carpet. I purchased a BesWin chair mat also from Amazon to put under it.
Love your videos. Silver and 70, newly solo. You are a breath of fresh air and your videos are a wealth of information and positivity. It’s no wonder you were monetized so quickly. Thank you for being and creating your content!
Every day, my breakfast is Oatmeal with mixed fruit, 2 hours later I eat a Peanut Butter and Fruit Spread sandwich. I found this helps get my day started in a positive "plant-based" way. I'm the same way, Vegan is not for me. I love me a double bacon cheeseburger! LOL But for low-fat meat, I have been cooking a bag of frozen mixed veggies, brown rice, and ground chicken. The key is to switch it up and not get bored with your diet.
I am a 78 year old widow living alone in my condo. I am trying to cut out sugar to lose 5 to 10 pounds. I sit around and watch you tube a lot, too, Gen!! I use my treadmill 15 minutes 4 times a week. I use my rebounder 3 times a week. Hugs from Michigan USA!
56-ish and retired for 1 year. I wasn’t sure how I would adjust and fill my time. My part time job gives me great positive social interactions, but I love the idea of curating more positive social media! I have made it my mission to spread good energy when I’m out and about. I volunteer walking dogs at the local humane society. It’s great exercise for me and the dogs! It’s been great to keep a more positive perspective.
I'm 58 and solo, and I agree with you about the positive mindset. I choose to be positive in the way that I look at things - attitude is everything! I also agree that we are not meant to eat only plants - a good nourishing eating plan of healthy proteins (meat, fish), fats (e.v. olive oil, ghee/clarified butter) and fruits & veggies is probably the best choice I could make for a healthier me as we age. About four years ago, I was very obese and sedentary. Through lockdown until now, just by walking for things I need that are within walking distance and making better choices, I'm active daily and back down to a healthier weight, although I no longer own a scale. The smaller clothes I had to buy were enough for me to know I must be doing something right! Yes, I "get" to go walking, and it is a blessing to be active. I found your channel while watching others in order to grow my own art channel. Your tips about living solo, health and finances are inspiring - keep up the good work!
I have found April, a trainer, and her mom, very helpful with UA-cam chair yoga for seniors. I'm not as flexible as fit April, but a bit more than her mom, so it's a very comfortable space. I do it daily, about 15 minutes. Their cat shows up, too! I recommend it to enjoy and keep flexible. It's so calming, no pressure. I get to do it!
Have you visited the Sixty and Me utube? Margaret is now in her 70s, has expanded her online presence a lot. Best of all she FOCUSES ON THE POSITIVES in life. Travels a lot, too😊
Those are great! I love the positive sites you shared! A lot of common interests, but not any sites that I already knew. [Do you follow Jonna Jinton, or Mossy Bottom Finland, or The Cottage Fairy with Paola Miller? They all make me happy in different ways!] And I love this idea of Niksen! So relaxing! I knew a teacher who gave an assignment to her students to go outside, shut off their devices, and just quietly observe the world around them with as many senses as possible, for 15 minutes ... then report what they observed, no matter how ordinary or insignificant. ["I see a blue bottle cap on the ground. There are ants crawling around and around it. I can smell some meat on the grill, and feel the wind, and hear children laughing at the playground."] The students were so enthralled with the exercise that some resolved to make it a daily habit!
Since following Markus and Cara on the UA-cam channel The Healthy Life it’s been a lot easier for me to take better care of myself eating plant based and exercising. My health has improved tremendously, thanks to them. I highly recommend their videos!
I make it a point to put positivity into my life. I stay away from news and things that will create rushes of adrenaline and cortisol in my body. As I age I crave to be peaceful and happy. I love to read and I find books that inspire me and create a positive vibe in my life. I too love national geographic and history. I am going to look those suggestions up. I like the idea of spending time just doing nothing and day dreaming. I remember this as a child and young teenager. I do a 30 minute class on Zoom everyday and its movement, yoga and meditation. It is free. It gets me up and going every weekday. I also walk a lot. I spend time in nature ie parks as there are lots of trees. They produce phytoncides & dopamine which have positive effects on peoples health and well being. Thanks for the inspiring video..
Just found your channel & loving it. Especially this video. I’m so with you on all of the things you talked about here and I even started following a few of your recommendations. I’m a 56 year old college student (crazy) living in Florida. I’m not solo, but my husband works so much that I often feel solo and definitely have to do a lot of things on my own. Looking forward to watching more 😊
I am a 71 yr old silver and solo. Always have been solo. Raised 3 children alone. They now live in different parts of the country. I love my fruits and veggies. One of my favorite thins about spring and summer is fresh fruits and veggies. I love gardening and being outside. I canned lots of tomatoes last year. Love cooking with all my fresh greens.
I am silver and solo too. I am just a few years younger than you are, but I can say "Yes" sitting at a desk all day and lounging around in the evening sure takes a toll on your muscles and bones. I also feel the same way you do about watching negativity and the news, especially on UA-cam. I take breaks from the news and negative UA-cam channels.
The mindset adjustment changes everything. I used to check my calendar and groan about what I had to do. I realized I was plunking the fun times in the same category as the undesirable but necessary chores! If I can’t bring myself to “get” to do something, I try to at least just say “I’m go to”. It certainly helps!
Wow. The whole 'niksen' thing I've been doing for some years without knowing it had a name. I do it when I'm having stressful days. It's my way of catching a break from the external world. I've actually created a special 'coffee nook' in my apartment where I sit and stare out over the strait.
I loved this video about positive additions to our lives as silver and solo, and especially the outlook of “I get to” rather than “I have to”. You might enjoy Downshiftology for delicious recipe ideas that are plant based. ❤ 🇨🇦
I love your honesty ! Yes, my job b 4 i retired at 56 was sitting and getting up and down, and then coming home to basically eat dinner and watch tv,repeat. Weekends gardening, dog long gone and i gave up walking as it feels strange and sometimes scary in the evening esp even in so called safe NZ.. THEN , i got plantar faceitis, wow the pain in my right foot ! I know its due to inactivity !! So im planning to walk more once my foot feels a bit better after physio ! Im sure i did it to myself ! Anyhoo, trying to be more active 😮 though i love YTube.... Luckily i have a big garden which is dependent on me ! Love the channel ❤️ Thanks for the tips , sometimes you do get stuck in a routine that gets a bit old, nice to shake it up a bit ❤
Oh, what an awesome video, Jen! I'd love to share, here, Miranda Esmonde-White... a former ballerina, Canadian, and all about stretching, particularly for us "mature" folks. Thank you. I'm enjoying a morning coffee, listening to the happy birdsong on the sweet morning air. 👍😎🇨🇦🎶 P.S. A few of my good habits: short, tension-releasing meditation, gratitude lists, a few meatless meals per week, seeking the positive, time in nature, letting go...(inner peace above all!!).❤
Vegetable eaters need to be very grateful for good soil. Animals help create good soil. Very few crops grow of farms fertilised with cabbage leaves and carrot scrapings.
I struggle with the stretchy things. I have a couple of chronic pain conditions and it's a challenge to find routines that I can do on a routine basis that don't cause pain. And then when I do have pain, it's a challenge to even move on those days. It always seems it's one stretch forward, three stumbles back. The "I get to" mindset was something I adopted when I moved six months ago. It's an amazing little shift that creates a totally different perspective on life. I have two diabetic cats who require twice daily shots. While I do "have" to give them insulin, I "get to" take care of them and give them a good life. I am almost to the "I get to" point with cleaning their litter boxes. I finally found a litter that's actually nice to work with and the cats like it. Win-Win.
Hi Jen i just have a little tidbit for you & your subs. If you all can walk and get around, Yoga, DO IT. i started having some issues about 18 years ago. I was diagnosed with RA. Put on meds and felt better. (I wanna make this short) FF to 10 years ago, started getting to where i couldn't sit in certain chairs, restaurants w/hubby became few & far between because of the seating. Severe neck pain that caused headaches every single day. My low back, caused so much pain that i can barely walk on asphalt and cement. I can barely stand on it too. I had to give up a job i love. I am in some of the most excruciatingly pain, that i literally cannot breathe at times. I am 59. I had neck surgery 3 years ago, HAD to. Now, we are back with more issues with the discs. I have SEVERE DDD in neck and low back. I WISH to walk, i WISH to work, i just WISH to sit in a restaurant with my hubs. I trip a lot. I am unsteady. Getting help has been brutal. We just moved, & there is a gym with an indoor pool, so i am going to start water exercises. I do walk, when i can, may not be far. It has put me in a severe depression at times. I try REALLY hard. I still try to be as active as possible, but dang, the pain!! Anyway, my tidbit is, PLEASE If you can move, walk, Yoga, do it. I watch people in a store, (i HAVE to go with someone) and i feel "jealous" not mad, but just want to stand without brutal pain. Anyway, i don't dwell on it, I can't, i remain positve even though I want to cry. So, walk, Yoga, etc. Have a most wonderful day.😊
Hi, I am 59yrs old and I too lost my job after 32yrs when I was 51yrs old. I since have had 3 jobs because I ventured and tried something totally different. I spent 3yrs working at two of the locations and now I am on my second year at my current job which I enjoy. I have been trying to incorporate the " I get to go to work or I get to walk my dog " etc... It does feel better saying it that way but I cannot wait until I get to say " I get to do whatever I want today " Lol...
Another thought: accepting help allows others to do their good day for the day, as well as getting the help and meeting another good person who might turn into a new friend. We will need friends of all ages and kinds as we go through life, especially in our later years when we might be more isolated.
I live alone and treasure this time to myself after growing up in a large noisy house full of kids and our friends, it was fun at the time. Done! Yet my 5 siblings have conformed to social norms. I believe they'd be better off living alone since they are critical, pcky and inconsiderate of others. No pets either.
I niksen every morning! One (or two) cats in my lap, drinking my coffee, looking out the window as the sun changes the colors of the flowers on my front porch. Have a lovely rest if your week!😂
I am glad you call yourself plant based and not vegan. The two are very different plant based is mostly exactly that with maybe some animal food. Veganism is about far more animals, world hunger, environment health and health. I am 67 and will have been vegan 30 on 29th August. Unlike some my health is good my cholesterol levels are fine.
I went Veg g ie and became very sick. Which I did to myself. Be careful and make sure you're getting your required daily dose of protein and iron. Love you!
I've been keeping an exercise journal for a year. I initially wrote what I ate and how I exercised, but found it self-defeating cause I always messed up on food choices. I write what I do for exercise only (what and how long) & found the food choices improved. This year I'm taking classes about things I want to learn more about, like gardening and finance.
Your comment reminded me, the first time I ran across this was at camp in 6th grade. The counselor told us the first morning that we "get to" make our beds rather than we "have to." 😊
I really like the idea of saying 'I get to' instead of 'I have to' and I'm going to start saying that now. I do often remind myself how lucky I am to have a roof over my head, a comfortable bed to sleep in at night and the money to be able to pay my bills and buy my food, etc. I work hard for that money, but I could be a lot worse of and that's what I try to remember whenever I start feeling sorry for myself; for instance, when the weather is horrible and I have to go out to work. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you Jen 😊
New subscriber here. Found your channel recently and am really enjoying watching. I went to a mostly whole food plant-based diet a few years ago and a few of my health issues have dramatically improved or have gone away completely.
Attitude is so powerful! I discovered Caroline Jordan‘s UA-cam videos for stretching. She has quite a variety and she is very encouraging. Wanted to recommend.
Try Greek vegetarian dishes... e.g. Dimitra's dishes...Bean or Lentil soups, Gemista i.e. stuffed veggies, cheese or spinach pita I.e. pies, rice or pilaf dishes
It's in the spices. I make a braided Cardamom bread in the wintertime especially. Not the green pods from India, but the plain ground light brown Cardamom spice. I always add butter and honey on top soon as I pull it out of the oven. Braided bread can easily be pulled apart into single servings. Same goes for the dessert- Monkey Bread which is baked in a Bundt pan. I try to shop around for different spices with different palate pleasers; sweet- coconut, different sugars, anise star, etc. spicy- Not Puckerbutts Carolina Reaper spicy- more like curry, garlic, and hot mustard, horseradish, and a few little salty pickles, lemon juice on parmesan cheese & garlic bread makes a great side bread to round out a meatless meal. It's easy to make your own condiments as well. My Grandparents ran a small Cafe and bar for over 40 years, and nobody ever starved. They never ran out of food, yet Grama had a hefty pantry that included spices and condiments to vary her menu with different options. The same can be applied to a home pantry. The foundation of good cooking is a variety of spices from all over the world. A few shakes of spices on meatless meals changes everything. I also eat three meals a day, no snacking in-between meals. If I make one of Gramas New York Cheesecakes, I scale the recipe back by 50%, when I put it in the water bath, I keep a close watch on how long it bakes for, I don't over indulge on regular size cheesecake, I intentionally make it smaller. when I make caramel apple dip, I make half a batch. If you've ever had children, and you remember Kegal exercises for strengthening the pelvic floor, 100-200 of the Kegals in the morning and at night, the age related weak pelvic floor issues definitly disappeared after about a month. There's Kegal tutorials for men and women on UA-cam. I don't watch the negative news, I use a private browser and keep poisonous news out of my brain.
I'm 63, a recent widow, and living solo . I am a new subscriber. I enjoy watching your videos. Oh ,Dawn from Censible living with money mom said Hi and gave you a shout out in her last video.😊 Pretty cool !
You have a very positive attitude !!! Gratitude is the best antidepressant! I went low fat vegan last fall because I was warned about being close to diabetic. I found out that I actually love the strong flavours and spiciness of Mexican and Indian cooking. (Added bonus; the extra pounds just VANISHED with NO HUNGER!) Lots of interesting food to be discovered there, plus it’s very healthy to boot! Good luck with the plant based eating ❣️
Hey hi mam i Am Annu from india your video pop up to me suddenly first time happy to see ur videos now.. like ur real content love to your dogi m from india and i m so happy for u your videos are showing all around the world ❤🎉congratulations
What's helped me be ok with getting help is being short (5'3)..... In a grocery store, I often can't reach items on the top shelf.... so I hover until someone taller comes along and they are always happy to help....
Also, I have a request. Could you please list an outline of the items or tips in your video notes or on a slide in the video? In this case your 6 new habits. It helps us to retain it when we see it and hear it. Plus we can go back and look at the notes in case we forget one 😊 super helpful for us with "silver" memory 😉. Thanks for the great tips Jen!
I love the idea of a positive social media feed. I tried it inspired by other people whose example I respect and was ridiculed by friends and family many of who I have deleted. I have just been monumentally hacked and am just thinking of starting everything again and really limiting who I connect with. Even friends posts can be really toxic or a lovely friend posts 10 or so memes and short vids everyday which dominates my feeds. I love that you accepted a seniors discount. The other day an acquaintance suggested I move into a retirement village. I have to inform her I was not old enough 😂
I’ve been eating fully plant-based for about 5 years now, and my health has never been better. No issues with weight gain, and no willpower needed! It’s so easy, whew! Love comparing notes with you in these silver years. ❤
I am an avid thrifter! I make a video for my daughters of all the stuff I find. I especially love buying thrifted clothing! Can’t stand buying new stuff… ❤
Great conversation! I was vegan on and off for about 35 years but after menopause 2 years ago I find that I have to have animal protein now, my hormones and insulin get really imbalanced without it.
✅ Enjoying your channel. I am aiming for REAL FOOD. Been learning about Dr Berry's PHD/Proper Human Diet. Have not made a firm decision yet, but it is probably worth a few weeks trial to see how I feel. -- Exercise, I have rarely been good at that, but I certainly identify with the declining flexibility. You inspire me.
I too, had a sedentary career for many years and I paid for it dearly. Choosing a low carb lifestyle over 18 months ago has transformed how I feel and as a bonus, how I look at 70. No more stiff joints, GERD, and constant hunger. Trying the PHD is well worth it. Once you beat the carb cravings, you will be amazed at the changes in your overall wellbeing.Good health to you!
I’m in my 70s and I can recommend Callanetics as an exercise routine only draw back is you have to get on the floor. Which reminds me to go and buy a lambs wool rug. All the best.
"Dolce far niente," in Italian means, "the sweetness of doing nothing." Much needed respite for the mind and soul.
This is my favorite saying!
As long as you enjoy learning and discovering new things, life is beautiful.
@@my_warm_Africa -Life won't be so beautiful if you don't get active as you get older,
@@missymurphy9002 Nothing motivates me better than walking a dog.
Elizabeth can you explain more about your yoga routines?
You are a minimalist. Minimalism isn't cutting down to 4 plates and 6 books. It's about ridding yourself of the things that cause you stress. Like that shed in my back yard that things go to wait for the day I may find a use for them. It gets stressful and I need to take a whole day to clean and get rid of "stuff" that I should have gotten out of my life long ago. All your books and treasures make you happy so it is YOUR minimalism. Getting rid of the things you love would be stressful. 😊 Love your channel and will be checking out some of the sites you suggested 😊
I love your take on minimalism!
I just love your channel. Thank you so very much for your inspiration!
@Simplehappyzen is lovely.
I think your ‘GET TO’ attitude is powerful! I just tried it out when I walked to the grocery store because I had to give up my 20 year old car. I told myself that I “GET TO” have exercise. You’re definitely on to something, by golly! 👍
Love the "have to" vs "get to" mindset. That would also help me be more aware of my blessings!
Take care! ✌️❤️
Great advice! 😁👌♥️

Skye and Quinn probably think they’re the same breed. Your channel will continue to ‘flourish’ because folks need a diversion these days. You’re cool!
My husband and I are both 75. We walk 2 miles each and every day. In addition, I do exercises to keep my knees strong.
You got this!

So interesting about the 59 yr old accepting the Seniors discount. Ethics and morals can be a personal challenge sometimes.
I have lots of cat videos in my FB feed -they always make me laugh and smile!
My favorite is “accepting help” . How many times have we helped others during our younger years. It’s a double blessing when we accept offers for help. Also, you are wise to know your limitations and not risk possibly hurting yourself. Thank you Jen from the Panhandle of Florida .
Thank you so much, wishing you the best life every moment! 💖💖💖
Thank you! You too!
Can I ask, "what is a walking pad"?
@@deniserichard5613 it is similar to a treadmill but doesn't incline and doesn't go as fast as a treadmill. Light enough that it's easy to move if necessary.
@@katieallen3927 Ok, thank you. I had never heard of that. I must see about getting one. Thanks again❣️
@@deniserichard5613 I purchased a Citysports walking pad from Amazon. If you put it on a carpeted floor you will need to put something underneath to protect the carpet. I purchased a BesWin chair mat also from Amazon to put under it.
Me too. Doctor insists on a ten minute walk daily. With one of those, I can maybe double that ... and watch Silver and Solo at the same time. Bonus!
Thank you for 'i get to....'. Its just what i needed lately.
I’m 79. The older I get the more I am loosing my ability to process plant based foods. Love your choice to choose positive!
You're such an inspiration, Jen!!!
I get to choose what I listen to, and watch, and you are one good , positive one to keep. Blessings to you !
I like the "I get to" tweak! Thanks for the channel recommends some of those look lovely.
Travels a lot, too😊
Yes I have!
Those are great! I love the positive sites you shared! A lot of common interests, but not any sites that I already knew. [Do you follow Jonna Jinton, or Mossy Bottom Finland, or The Cottage Fairy with Paola Miller? They all make me happy in different ways!]
And I love this idea of Niksen!
I don't follow The Cottage Fairy, but I've watched a couple of hers....!
Yup, I'm with ya on the Cotswolds!
Can you find a falafel shop? We have one near here and I love it. Meatless. No deprivation.
Up until now that I have been watching you are saying what I feel. First time someone understands. Thank you. 😅
You are so welcome
Wonderful ideas to think about - Thank you Jen!
Looking forward to watching more 😊
Thank you so much!!
I GET TO watch your videos! 🙂
It is so luxurious to do nothing - anything that requires nothing of myself. Much of my life is spent making room for this.

👍😎🇨🇦🎶 P.S. A few of my good habits: short, tension-releasing meditation, gratitude lists, a few meatless meals per week, seeking the positive, time in nature, letting go...(inner peace above all!!).❤
Essentrics is magic!
Vegetable eaters need to be very grateful for good soil. Animals help create good soil. Very few crops grow of farms fertilised with cabbage leaves and carrot scrapings.
I loved to find yor channel!🤗🤗🤗
Win-Win.
I have found that the easiest way to improve my mobility is Hanna Somatics, which you can find instructional videos of here on UA-cam.
Have a most wonderful day.😊
I hope the water exercises help with your pain, I've heard they do help a lot of people. Best of luck.
@sv6320 thanks so much. I hope it helps also.
Minimalist Baker has a fabulous recipe for a bean chili. Had it tonight - filling and tasty

Oh ,Dawn from Censible living with money mom said Hi and gave you a shout out in her last video.😊
Pretty cool !
Awesome! Thank you! I thanked her as well!
Inspiring! I can add Pick Up Limes for meatless meals and Time Team for mostly British archeology done in a fascinating way.
I watch them both!
I love the "I get to" mindset over "I have to" mindset. Awesome!
