..Quite simply the greatest piece of contemporary music ever created...that ending is like someone throwing an ice cold bucket of water over me!!....chills!!
Lyle, from the musical waves, draws mountains, oceans, and goes on, until he reaches heaven, goes on to the universe. He paints them all. Thank you forever Mr. Lyle Mays. Rest in peace.
I saw Pat perform this in LA in 89. I went back the next evening to hear it again. If this tune doesn't stir your soul, you must be dead and that would be a waste. It is such a wonderful masterpiece.
I think this is the best song i never heard. I bought the Score for Big Band arranged by Bob Curnow: there is a continuous change of time 12/8 (3+2+3+2+2) and 10/8 (3+3+2+2). Great arrangement for a Great song. Thank you Pat!!
great song... its my favorite.. almost every pat song has something spiritual on it.. this song is powerful in that way.. he converts the notes in spiritual medicine without saying a word.. which I find unique, I'm lucky to live the same time as Pat and Lyle... I'm so proud my ears found Pat Metheny Group
The reason he spends so much time in Europe, Japan and Brazil is because they actually understand and appreciate music, unlike American's who think Britney, Beyounce and Kanye actually have talent. We are the fast food nation in more ways than one! This was another one of the tours I saw at Ravinia in Chicago, outdoors, summer night, lawn seats with friends from work. I made a gallon of blue margaritas. It was an AWESOME night.
Again, agree with rkelly62. These guys are AMAZING and to be respected. Really like the vocals and liked this particular phase (touch of Brazilian jazz) of their music career. Saw them in Davis, CA (UCD) and UCB (Berkeley) Greek Theater. Epic. Genius. Totally 2kule4u. They own the jazz world...................
ESTE ES UN GENIO MODERNO...DE MIS FAVORITOS!!! DE PELOS !!! EL Y TODOS SUS MUSICOS, NCHE INSPIRACION MUSICAL COMO MUY POCOS...ESTA PIEZA EN ESPECIAL ES SOLO PARA LOCUAZES....FUERA DE LO ORDINARIO!!! MUY BIEN MI PAT!!! UFFFF....DE LUJO !!!!!!
Pat Metheny carries on where MIles Davis and John Coltrane left off; exploring music. They have found new sounds; it's to bad there are so many stuck in OLD styles of jazz. I was in Anchorage a few years ago and there was jazz night at a club in downtown. It was great to hear the old jazz standards, but there was no desire to explore new sounds. I thought true jazz was a way to discover music with improvisation. Jazz musicians you may fail, but explore music with your own vision. We need it!
meravigliosa : sembra la nascita di un fiume che scorga come uno zampillo da vette Himalayane e percorrendo valli e dirupi , scorre tra le pianure fino ad arrivare all'Oceano indiano
I think these guys sing this very well, staying perfectly in tune when you sing together as a single voice (most of the part) is not as easy as one may think, especially with all those long notes, but I personally like Pedro Aznar's voice and charisma more!
deffinitely. I just recently bought a pat metheny song book with tons of lead sheets. that hand clap intro is in 22/8 some of that music is ridiculously complicated
I agree NicoPastorius. There is a certain quality in Aznar's voice that melds so well with PMG. By the way, are you related to the best bassist of Weather Report, Jaco Pastorius?
I'd say that they're just diferent and not better than one. I think all the musicians who play and who has played in PMG they' re just GREAT to be invited to play with PMG. So all they're great musicians high level and with their own "tasty" and that's why PM is always changing the band. Greetings.
captainelsewhere, you are putting PM and Kenny G in the same catagory. You are not hearing what I'm hearing. When one listens to PM, it is as close to God as one can get without actually meeting their end. These are sublime compositions. Strong and well developed, far exceding the work of any jazz artist in any catagory. Sorry.
..Quite simply the greatest piece of contemporary music ever created...that ending is like someone throwing an ice cold bucket of water over me!!....chills!!
I always feel like I'm FLYING when I hear this!!
When i'm feel sad, I just have to think of this tune to feel well.
Thanks Lyle and Pat !

Unrivaled!
Wiltern Theater! My first PMG concert. Pat was wearing shorts.
Tremendous cymbal work. This song is a total adventurous journey!
maybe the greatest song of all time
I think this is the best song i never heard. I bought the Score for Big Band arranged by Bob Curnow: there is a continuous change of time 12/8 (3+2+3+2+2) and 10/8 (3+3+2+2). Great arrangement for a Great song. Thank you Pat!!
I Love You Pat! Your music has brought me many years of blissful happiness...:-)

I cant imagine how better to say what you expressed
Pat's music stirs the soul...everytime you experience it. Then , now or in the future.
Greatest tune ever written and performed
Seeing this live will change your life !!!!!💜💜
as a guitarist of 40 years, it did indeed

This could easily be a James Bond movie theme..... love it!
This is Truly a Masterpiece, at 8:54 to the end, they took this song to another Wonderful dimension/stratosphere with those vocals.
If you watch at the end when the lights come up, Mark Ledford reaches over and he and David Blamires low-five 🫱🏻🫲🏽
PMG First Circle Live In Japan 1995

I love this live version! ^_^ I wish we have been playing like them one stage!
Amazing they all know the rhythm
Amazing... just amazing!!
In the dvd w/ this vid Pat explains this is in 3 and 2.
One of the best versions of this song.
ESTE ES UN GENIO MODERNO...DE MIS FAVORITOS!!! DE PELOS !!! EL Y TODOS SUS MUSICOS, NCHE INSPIRACION MUSICAL COMO MUY POCOS...ESTA PIEZA EN ESPECIAL ES SOLO PARA LOCUAZES....FUERA DE LO ORDINARIO!!! MUY BIEN MI PAT!!! UFFFF....DE LUJO !!!!!!

Pat is amazing....amazing....amazing....
R.I.P. Lyle Mays
Gonna see him next week in Amsterdam, my first time!
I was here, Tokyo, Nakano-Sun Plaza hall.
Audience play handclap with band.
Pat said, this phenomenon is only in Japan.
Nik Harnoncourt I saw American audiences do it, too, back in the day.

A truly special piece of music, a psalm of sorts
The best, the only one. For eternity
Genios!!!
meravigliosa : sembra la nascita di un fiume che scorga come uno zampillo da vette Himalayane e percorrendo valli e dirupi , scorre tra le pianure fino ad arrivare all'Oceano indiano
I love this song.... always gets a STanding O. Except in Japan of course!
Lyle Mays really shines on this song.
I saw this in London. This is the one.
Are you telling me that the crowd was clapping in 22/8 at the start? :P
+Rajorshi Bhattacharyya They all know the song i guess!
American audiences did it at that time, too. PMG fans.
No they were clapping in 11-4. Lol
YESSSSS!!!
♥
Wow!!
signé Metheny
I swear these guys are having a cuppa with God when they play this! It's insanely out of this realm...
bELLÍSIMA CANCIÓN
Quite possibly the most spiritual song ever made.
Sure miss you, Lyle

You get it, Rambeou!
Óne word: WAUW!!!

O WOW!
I'm a Metheny fan :-)
Pedro Azanar or Mark Ledofrd? I think they have amazing voices, i preffer mark he was amazing.
R.I.P Mark Ledford
deffinitely. I just recently bought a pat metheny song book with tons of lead sheets. that hand clap intro is in 22/8 some of that music is ridiculously complicated
holy shit.
O Boca Livre deixou a música muito mais bonita.
I agree NicoPastorius. There is a certain quality in Aznar's voice that melds so well with PMG. By the way, are you related to the best bassist of Weather Report, Jaco Pastorius?
1985DCI BlueDevils!☆
I think it sounds great both ways. but I can appreciate your opinion of Aznar. Great musician.
Yeah..sounds like it was in the piano...I don't know if it was a blooper, but if it was a dissonance in a jazz chord, it was too loud.
RIP Lyle Mays
Are you guys doing this in a high school jazz band?
Fuck yes.
I'd say that they're just diferent and not better than one. I think all the musicians who play and who has played in PMG they' re just GREAT to be invited to play with PMG. So all they're great musicians high level and with their own "tasty" and that's why PM is always changing the band. Greetings.
This guy is good , especially with Lyle mays.
no es lo mismo sin Pedro Aznar, y es que canta muy bien
It's called a blue note
@fossaalta che bel commento
only if its a really watered down version. Thats a seriously tough chart
you know there are some people in the audience trying to clap along to the complex beat and totally fuck it up.
evidently you do..
hahahaha thats hilarious
This song is even greater with Pedro Aznar at the vocals...just my 2cents.
even decent musicians can mess that beat up with ease...but you can't really complain about it if the fans are paying now can you?
@pavanatanaya 123, 12, 123, 12, 12, 123, 123, 12, 12
What kind of man does take to write music like this and then to have Lile Mays playing with you...
"anthums" are not this powerful
123,123,123,12,123,123,123,12
Actually, it is..
123,12,123,12,12,123,123,12,12
