I have to say that if I could back in time, I’d give whatever it would cost, and I was fresh graduate from college at the time… but WHATEVER it would have cost, to be in the audience that night!

'Very impressive. What a mind.

Lyle Mays solo is just amazing. I wish it would just go on forever much like the rest of the song. The arrangement by Pat and Lyle is so damn good and I wouldn't have minded if it was another five minutes longer. A favorite of mine since I first heard it. And this version is my go to for this song. Live is always better.

This has been my most favorite song of all time...over the Beatles, Zepellin, all of the jazz greats, etc. This is such an uplifting, joyous piece of music and has that total 'trip factor' built in that Pat says he puts into every composition. I have seen him play it many times and it never gets worn out.

I saw the band in person on the day of the concert, and it was a truly emotional performance, and all of the members shone. The breath of the earth was flowing through the air and enveloping the venue.
While Pat Metheny's music is always alive when I play it, seeing him performing makes it come top life in another very special way! What an awesome, accessible composer and performer!
Incredibly powerful song. One of their absolute best. I love the intensity of how the song builds. Man, I thought Pats hand was going to fall off! Never seen such fast strumming!!!
This piece, "Minuano", and "Finding and Believing" are my three favorite PM compositions. I would regard him as a musical genius based on those three pieces alone, but he has accomplished a universe of other achievements as well! I was lucky enough to meet Pat backstage in NYC at the Village Vanguard sometime around 2000 or so (I knew his then bass player Peter Washington from Grad school so he introduced me). I basically told him thank you so much for your amazing musical gifts to Humanity, and also that I think "Finding and Believing" is one of the greatest compositions of the 20th Century and that it really had a profound effect on me - he was pretty floored and so incredibly humble - what a class act. A true musical genius.
And don't under estimate Lyle Mays contribution to the music. He and Pat were so good together. I really love hearing these songs done live. So much talent here on this tour.

Pat Metheny is "The Master of Joyful Music!" This song is one of his masterpieces....my favorite. When I was brokenhearted because I lost everyone, I was determined to find my joy again, all by myself. This version grounded me in joy....proof that I could love myself when no one else cared. Lyle, please continue to play for us in Heaven, in our dreams.

I have to say, as always with every musician pat has had in his group, that steve's bass playing over the years never ceases to amaze me even though bass isn't my instrument. He is hands down the most musical bass player i know of and when you listen to him what he does, it's mind blowing really. Insane musician ship.

This is such an incredibly beautiful peice. Pat and Lyle are one of the greatest duo's of this century. Such incredible feeling and care for the composition. Its as if it were a child how they nurture the song or a wife how carefully they romance every phrase as if it were the last one they will ever play. Uncompromisably exquisite..Sorry to be dripping with praise but this peice really got to me. Thanks for maybe understanding, Ha!
Whenever I hear this beautiful piece of music, especially the beginning, I think eerie images of The Salem Massachusetts Witch Trials. Ironically, the first time I heard this was in a flawless performance at a Winter Colorguard International show. (used by the 1986 St. Anthony's Imperials from where?...Everett, Massachusetts) I absolutely love the time signature, the steady tension building throughout the song, and the full on crescendo release at the end...pure genius.
Perhaps one of the best LIVE performances of REAL musicians that I have ever witnessed. Amazing musicianship throughout each section. (this is one of TWO postings of this video that I have seen, btw) The more Metheny we have around the internet, the better off the world would be. :) Thanks!
Saw the First Circle Tour at Grady Gammage Auditorium in Tempe, AZ years ago. I saw this tour as well (We Live Here). I regret missing the Imaginary Day tour. Very rare I don't listen to this band do something just about every day.
The most epic piece of music ever written, hands down. For some reason i never cry when listening to music, but if i would, i would drown in my own tears because of the beauty of this piece. Love you, Pat. I'm going with you!

I went to the PMG concert at the Alabama Theater in February of '98. I'm a huge Metheny fan.
