Somewhere out there, there's an M4 owner and a stingray owner happy with their purchases, and everyone else is arguing over which is better of the 2 they can't afford.

Not that I've ever driven an M4, but my first track experience ever was in the new Corvette, and for someone who has no idea what they're doing on a track, I found it incredibly predictable and easy to drive. It's a fun car. No comment on comparing it to an M4.
it's really going to be all about how it is on the normal road people keep comparing cars based upon what they are at the limit but that isn't really happening on the normal road having a full track setup on the road would be harsh but if it's not driving at that limit then it really does nothing beneficial and makes it rough unnecessarily the low ride height of the corvette must be ridiculous when behind SUVs the BMW is at least a decent sitting height to all the other traffic on the road

I doubt you'll really be facing this as a decision. The Corvette is marketed to a pretty different demographic. The Corvette is just for some people.. and the BMW is for others. It just totally depends on who you are. They're both great cars.

A sports car should sound like a sports car. That exhaust note of the corvette is awesome. The M4 is nice but the string ray gets my vote. The comparison was a waist of time. Wait till the track dries so you can drive them to their full capability.

agreed. Subaru is not a great option. The Corvette Stingray offers a lot in the way of performance, looks, and nice interior. The new mercedes C300 is surprisingly sporty & offers an updated interior. M4 is the ultimate performance car...BMW interiors aren't the most luxurious however.
I just can't understand these reviews... You cannot compare an M4 to a Corvette and I don't care how much faster or cooler or cheaper the Corvette is. They're comparing a 2 seater sports car to a 4 seater coupe with a decent trunk. The whole point of the M3 and M5 has always been combining everyday practicality with race track performance. You can have an M3/M4 as an everyday car, even if you have a family with 2 kids and still go on a race track on weekends. That's the appeal of this car, you get two cars in one. I don't care if the Corvette is cheaper (and it isn't where I live), because here in Europe you're gonna pay huge taxes for that big V8 engine.
It doesn't matter if the Corvette beat the M4 in every single category possible, BMW fanboys would still say "the M4 is still better" all day. BMW could rebadge a Honda Civic as an M4 and they would still defend it to the death, just because it's BMW. And before anyone jumps on me for being an American fanboy, my favorite brand is Toyota followed by Subaru and then Audi. I love this new Corvette because it's too awesome and nothing else can compete with it one on one.
Exactly what i was thinking, BMW fanboys on internet are mostly 14-16 year old children. A true BMW owner will admit that Corvette is a more fun car but he choose BMW because he needed lets say : seating for 4, bigger trunk space, etc. Maybe he is a family man who still wants a 2door fast car?
gazzxr I´m a BMW fan and well above 40, but regardless the new Corvette is a blast, but if I had to live with either of those cars on an everyday basis (in Europe) then I would take the M4. Still I like the new Vette very much and would be very happy to spend some time in one.
Drove them all. E63 (2013 & 2014), CLS63, S7, RS7. I actually prefer the RS7 over the others, but priced higher (as is the M6 GranCoupe and CLS63). For some reason, the M5 just felt like the best Daily Driver Bahn-Stormer. And starting to consider Preowned...since those cars have already dropped dramatically in price. Don't get me wrong, would enjoy any of them...but for my budget and needs/wants, the M5 is taking the lead. Of course...it's all up to the deal. Had a 2011 E90 M3 and hated it....too small and rough. Rode harsher than my 911 GTS. But the new F10s ride great. Wouldn't mind testing a 2015 F80 M3 first though.
I own an M4 and I'm really happy with it. I guess that's all that matters. It has amazing torque, derestricted it's a 188mph car. Handling is good but not amazing, but very comfortable and economical as well as being crazy fast when it wants to be. Rear traction is an issue especially when wet but it means I can get sideways easily haha! Both cars in the video are great for different reasons. I'd love a small block V8 up front but the 3.0 inline biturbo does a great job and in person the sound is fantastic too. Now quit arguing people!
+Sam B Hey bud. I mainly drive in MDM traction mode, which allows a certain amount of wheel spin before it kicks in and cuts the power to regain traction. With TC fully on, it's constantly cutting the power to stop wheel spin basically. It's because there's no weight over the rear. Don't let it put you off - it's not terrible! It just loves going sideways! I've come from a Porsche 911 so the M4 doesn't turn as many heads. Still, I get a lot of comments for how nice the car looks, people do look a lot! Looks aggressive, sleek, and it's really fast! Enjoy man. Don't worry about being 'spoiled' - as long as you're aware you're lucky then have fun! Don't let people put you down! 👍🏼
I guess what they mean is that the Corvette is now officially a complete package. The interior is nice, it's modern, sounds great, drives magnificently, more livable, and is fast! Not to mention the price. A complete bargain compared to what it competes against.

Yea, and the magnetic shocks and dampers on the Corvette I guess do absolutely nothing to help the car drive like a dream. The chassis is also miles better. The corvette is a better drivers car already. For luxury feel, I dislike the style of BMW's interiors lately, I hate their whole business theme which is boring, I would rather live with the Corvette interior design which in the end I get more out of it and more goodies. On a highway or city, I rather drive the Corvette, it's overall just a smoother ride, you also get better fuel economy with the Corvette which makes it a sad day for bmw. You say GM like it's a bad thing. Lol.
What prestige? My has a M3 2012 with 5k miles, but the A/C stopped working and some electrical problems because it's draining the battery after 4 days.
Mark Fenin Incredible reliability is what you expect from American products. My GP is young at 85k miles, and the thing hasn't given me any problem since I bought it at 60k, I go hard on it but it still starts up every single morning with 0 problems.

Kaz W absolutely American cars are worthy of being compared to BMW. There are guys that own Porsche that are buying C7s. I'd still take a 991S over a C7 personally but that doesn't diminish from the greatness of C7. BMW styling and quality have gone down hill. Still miss my E92M3 as it looks better,sounds better, feels more comminicative and is more visceral than the F8X M3/M4. Hell, the new Mustang GT is more M feeling than the new M3/M4. The GT350 will be fantastic from a performance standpoint The new M interior is beautiful and is of a good bit better quality than the Ford and marginally better than the M. Like I said before, I would not cross shop these two. They are different cars for different purposes. The M3 makes for a perfect performance oriented daily driver. I just don't like the new styling.
Really people? It's not all about which one is faster or which one isn't. Thats partly the point, but when you own one, your not going to be primarily using it on the track. Corvettes are amazing cars. I've driven the stingray and it's really amazing and nice. But the M4 destroys it on track and offtrack. It just looks dope, gives me an orgasm every time I look at it. The inside is much more luxurious and nicer with better materials. Plus I'm not a fan of V8's. I just think they don't sound really nice for american muscle. The e92 M3 sounded perfect with the V8, but camaro's and mustangs and other American muscle sound bad imo. But the M4 is better in everyway.
Sorry to break it to people, but these cars are now very likely to be cross-shopped. They weren't before when the M3 coupe was more upright and practical, but the M4 has moved to a more aggressive 2-door platform that has the roof slung lower with a tighter back seat. The Vette actually has a far bigger truck space (surprisingly) as it sports more cubic feet than a BMW 7 series trunk. The only thing that differentiates these cars are the back seats in the M4, but when the hell have you ever seen someone in the back seat of an M3 coupe? Never, and if buyers want to do that, that's what the M3 sedan is for.
I work for BMW and Drive a Z06 and can tell all you BMW lovers that BMW is not a better quality car They suck all day long! I pull and replace bad garbage parts on those cars all day long, cheap quality parts If I wanted a Matchbox I would just go to Walmart lol The only thing BMW is good for is to pay for the real car in this video My Z06. John Vu The recent recalls aren't because of reliability issues, but rather safety hazards on some models. The weird thing about GM is that they put a ton of engineering work into high end models like the 'Vette and Caddies, but don't really care about the quality of their econoboxes, which is why they're in huge trouble atm.

This video was a waste of time for everyone. We expected to see a straight line drag race, 0-60, or a 1/4 mile of possible. We wanted to see you both race around the track to see if one car could keep up with the other. It would have been nice to see you both switch cars to give opinions on each comparing and contrasting. Finally, you obviously are on a track so which one goes around it the fastest? It's a simple straight forward formula for a car comparison video review that never happened. So instead we get disappointment. If you're not going to do it right then why bother?
My 07 BMW 335i cost $15,500. I installed a JB4 tune, downpipes and dual cone intake for about $2k. I have a $17,500 car that will run with a 2014 corvette stingray. 0-60....20-100 and 40-120. He finally starts walking away SLOWLY from 130 and up. We normally race on a closed course through school zones or funeral processions. We both raced bikes professionally & know how to launch and row a gearbox. Moral of the story is: you can make anything go fast, but 95% of the population will never drive either of the previously mentioned vehicles anywhere close to their respective limits.
i do like the idea that the Corvette is more dangerous and takes more work. a car can be too balanced or too good so u don't feel the speed or ride. not related at all but i had an older Acura POS that once it hit 90 it floated. no road noise or vibration. it was an ok car but a defective clutch that never got recalled. i found out after i bought it of curse and had to replace it. now i worked on my money game and don't have to worry about repair bills.
You get a base corvette with no leather dash and missing features which is standard in the m4. Like limited slip is not available in the base. And if you want a leather wraped interior which is comparable to the m4 you need the 3lt. So you are at 66k starting now.
MrLalasd The C7 is standard with a limited slip differential, with the Z51 package you get their eLSD. I think it is silly to have something like a leather wrapped interior being a major point on a performance car. Simply because the main point on a performance car should be the performance though its great to have the performance and everything else on top. This video is problematic though, for one Corvettes have been faster then the BMW M3 on a track for a long time now. Secondly this is the type of comparison that is best left for print as they don't really compare the two cars performance (which would make more sense for a video). This is just two guys driving these two cars having a conversation aimed at a certain target audience. Road and Track still doesn't have this whole video thing down yet, out of the 3 major publications in the US (the other two being Car and Driver and Motor Trend) it is Motor Trend that does video the best.

Being fastest in 1/4 mile straight drag doesn't make ur car a complete faster car, they struggle around corners and curves. Not disrespecting american machines but the fact is they lacks in quality, luxury. Just horsepower and nothing.

Sure the C6 didn't have the interior, but it had the performance that Ferrari's and Porsches struggled to keep up with even around Corners. And by god if it can't take Corners, then why is the Corvette in front of every Ferrari and nearly every mid range and low range Porsche or Lamborghini on multiple courses around the world, even on the "American car track killer" the ring? This isn't the past dude, get with the present and future, pretty much every American car is a quality car now, and Cadillac's have been getting named the best sports sedan on the market and now Dodge is taking that tittle and even more tittles from BMW and Mercedes thanks to just one sedan that can out perform a GTR for god sake. And all them with an interior that feels premium and quality made. The Corvette has a better interior in that matter, more technology, better design, same quality materials. Hey Guys, I am a Canadian that owns both BMW 328XI and Corvette Z06, I Love both cars... each has their niche' ... my 600 HP Z06 is a beast and a blast to drive ... my BMW XI is perfect for the harsh winter conditions blasting through the snow covered roads at 160km feeling totally safe as the all wheel drive hugs the road... The best of two worlds! I want an BMW M3 now and think that will be my next upgrade... I Love these cars!

Corvette sucks in balance. Here is a reason. Both uses eLSD but BMW M4 DTC engaged even sport+ applied while C7 can be turn off. Another fact is power. The C7 got more power and torque with a bad suspension. Front camber angle of C7 is 0.6, caster= 7 and toe= 0.04 Rear camber angle of C7 is 0.5, caster=7 and toe= 0.07 There maybe a slight gap between other C7. However BMW M4 Front camber= -1.58, caster= 7.4 and toe= 0.00 Rear camber= -1.47, caster= 7.4 and toe= 0.00 In a easier way to express, BMW M4 have more front end adjustment and a sharper steering respond and more aggressive traction control. Both cars uses 1.5 way eLSD I guess, under deceleration both probably performs the same. However in turn out, the Corvette can't put the power down as balance as the M4, the Corvette just keep power oversteering by the gear ratio, the wheel spins too fast and the car is too low, lack of weight transfer ended up with lack of dynamic. You can balance a M4 by steering, braking and throttle but in Corvette, you can only slide the car under control with throttle.

True sports cars are purpose built and hence have only 2 seats like a Corvette. M4 has 4 seats so it is by definition compromised to carry additional passengers (ie like a sports sedan) which impacts weight, balance and aerodynamics. Same as mustang and camero. For the guys looking to buy a street car that can race on the weekends, nobody in their right mind will choose an M-Anything. BMW coupes are awesome cars, but it's not a race car. The new vettes are a few tweaks from being race ready where the BMWs are thousands of dollars away from being race safe. If they actually talked about suspension, chassis design and lap times the BMW would leave the conversation quickly. Given the choice though, I'd probably pick the M4. Just not one that's baby crap green.

By itself I like the sound of the M4 - I love older M3s. But it just pales in comparison to the sound of the Corvette. This is the first time I've ever said that I prefer the sound of an american car, but its just better. Fact. Not that I've ever driven an M4, but my first track experience ever was in the new Corvette, and for someone who has no idea what they're doing on a track, I found it incredibly predictable and easy to drive. It's a fun car. No comment on comparing it to an M4.

Track performance is just an exageration of how it is on the street. Track or street you want something that is fun and predictable. As far as ride goes you can get the C7 with magnetic shocks giving it the ability to go from very soft to very firm in an instant.

I doubt you'll really be facing this as a decision. The Corvette is marketed to a pretty different demographic. The Corvette is just for some people.. and the BMW is for others. It just totally depends on who you are. They're both great cars.

agreed. Subaru is not a great option. The Corvette Stingray offers a lot in the way of performance, looks, and nice interior. The new mercedes C300 is surprisingly sporty & offers an updated interior. M4 is the ultimate performance car...BMW interiors aren't the most luxurious however.

I just can't understand these reviews... You cannot compare an M4 to a Corvette and I don't care how much faster or cooler or cheaper the Corvette is. They're comparing a 2 seater sports car to a 4 seater coupe with a decent trunk. The whole point of the M3 and M5 has always been combining everyday practicality with race track performance. You can have an M3/M4 as an everyday car, even if you have a family with 2 kids and still go on a race track on weekends. That's the appeal of this car, you get two cars in one.
I don't care if the Corvette is cheaper (and it isn't where I live), because here in Europe you're gonna pay huge taxes for that big V8 engine.
It doesn't matter if the Corvette beat the M4 in every single category possible, BMW fanboys would still say "the M4 is still better" all day. BMW could rebadge a Honda Civic as an M4 and they would still defend it to the death, just because it's BMW.
And before anyone jumps on me for being an American fanboy, my favorite brand is Toyota followed by Subaru and then Audi. I love this new Corvette because it's too awesome and nothing else can compete with it one on one.

Drove them all. E63 (2013 & 2014), CLS63, S7, RS7. I actually prefer the RS7 over the others, but priced higher (as is the M6 GranCoupe and CLS63). For some reason, the M5 just felt like the best Daily Driver Bahn-Stormer. And starting to consider Preowned...since those cars have already dropped dramatically in price. Don't get me wrong, would enjoy any of them...but for my budget and needs/wants, the M5 is taking the lead. Of course...it's all up to the deal.
Had a 2011 E90 M3 and hated it....too small and rough. Rode harsher than my 911 GTS. But the new F10s ride great. Wouldn't mind testing a 2015 F80 M3 first though.

I own an M4 and I'm really happy with it. I guess that's all that matters. It has amazing torque, derestricted it's a 188mph car. Handling is good but not amazing, but very comfortable and economical as well as being crazy fast when it wants to be. Rear traction is an issue especially when wet but it means I can get sideways easily haha! Both cars in the video are great for different reasons. I'd love a small block V8 up front but the 3.0 inline biturbo does a great job and in person the sound is fantastic too. Now quit arguing people!

With TC fully on, it's constantly cutting the power to stop wheel spin basically. It's because there's no weight over the rear. Don't let it put you off - it's not terrible! It just loves going sideways!
I've come from a Porsche 911 so the M4 doesn't turn as many heads. Still, I get a lot of comments for how nice the car looks, people do look a lot! Looks aggressive, sleek, and it's really fast! Yea, and the magnetic shocks and dampers on the Corvette I guess do absolutely nothing to help the car drive like a dream. The chassis is also miles better. The corvette is a better drivers car already. For luxury feel, I dislike the style of BMW's interiors lately, I hate their whole business theme which is boring, I would rather live with the Corvette interior design which in the end I get more out of it and more goodies. On a highway or city, I rather drive the Corvette, it's overall just a smoother ride, you also get better fuel economy with the Corvette which makes it a sad day for bmw. I'd still take a 991S over a C7 personally but that doesn't diminish from the greatness of C7. BMW styling and quality have gone down hill. Still miss my E92M3 as it looks better,sounds better, feels more comminicative and is more visceral than the F8X M3/M4. Hell, the new Mustang GT is more M feeling than the new M3/M4. The new M interior is beautiful and is of a good bit better quality than the Ford and marginally better than the M. Like I said before, I would not cross shop these two. They are different cars for different purposes. The M3 makes for a perfect performance oriented daily driver. I just don't like the new styling.

Really people? It's not all about which one is faster or which one isn't. Thats partly the point, but when you own one, your not going to be primarily using it on the track. Corvettes are amazing cars. I've driven the stingray and it's really amazing and nice. But the M4 destroys it on track and offtrack. It just looks dope, gives me an orgasm every time I look at it. The inside is much more luxurious and nicer with better materials. Plus I'm not a fan of V8's. I just think they don't sound really nice for american muscle. The e92 M3 sounded perfect with the V8, but camaro's and mustangs and other American muscle sound bad imo. But the M4 is better in everyway.

Sorry to break it to people, but these cars are now very likely to be cross-shopped. They weren't before when the M3 coupe was more upright and practical, but the M4 has moved to a more aggressive 2-door platform that has the roof slung lower with a tighter back seat. The Vette actually has a far bigger truck space (surprisingly) as it sports more cubic feet than a BMW 7 series trunk. The only thing that differentiates these cars are the back seats in the M4, but when the hell have you ever seen someone in the back seat of an M3 coupe? Never, and if buyers want to do that, that's what the M3 sedan is for.
I work for BMW and Drive a Z06 and can tell all you BMW lovers that BMW is not a better quality car They suck all day long! I pull and replace bad garbage parts on those cars all day long, cheap quality parts If I wanted a Matchbox I would just go to Walmart lol The only thing BMW is good for is to pay for the real car in this video My Z06. The weird thing about GM is that they put a ton of engineering work into high end models like the 'Vette and Caddies, but don't really care about the quality of their econoboxes, which is why they're in huge trouble atm.

This video was a waste of time for everyone. We expected to see a straight line drag race, 0-60, or a 1/4 mile of possible. We wanted to see you both race around the track to see if one car could keep up with the other. It would have been nice to see you both switch cars to give opinions on each comparing and contrasting. Finally, you obviously are on a track so which one goes around it the fastest? It's a simple straight forward formula for a car comparison video review that never happened. So instead we get disappointment. If you're not going to do it right then why bother?

He finally starts walking away SLOWLY from 130 and up. We normally race on a closed course through school zones or funeral processions. We both raced bikes professionally & know how to launch and row a gearbox. Moral of the story is: you can make anything go fast, but 95% of the population will never drive either of the previously mentioned vehicles anywhere close to their respective limits.

i do like the idea that the Corvette is more dangerous and takes more work. a car can be too balanced or too good so u don't feel the speed or ride. not related at all but i had an older Acura POS that once it hit 90 it floated. no road noise or vibration. it was an ok car but a defective clutch that never got recalled. i found out after i bought it of curse and had to replace it.
now i worked on my money game and don't have to worry about repair bills.

You get a base corvette with no leather dash and missing features which is standard in the m4. Like limited slip is not available in the base. And if you want a leather wraped interior which is comparable to the m4 you need the 3lt. So you are at 66k starting now.

The C7 is standard with a limited slip differential, with the Z51 package you get their eLSD.
I think it is silly to have something like a leather wrapped interior being a major point on a performance car. Simply because the main point on a performance car should be the performance though its great to have the performance and everything else on top.
This video is problematic though, for one Corvettes have been faster then the BMW M3 on a track for a long time now. Secondly this is the type of comparison that is best left for print as they don't really compare the two cars performance (which would make more sense for a video). This is just two guys driving these two cars having a conversation aimed at a certain target audience.
Road and Track still doesn't have this whole video thing down yet, out of the 3 major publications in the US (the other two being Car and Driver and Motor Trend) it is Motor Trend that does video the best.

Sure the C6 didn't have the interior, but it had the performance that Ferrari's and Porsches struggled to keep up with even around Corners. And by god if it can't take Corners, then why is the Corvette in front of every Ferrari and nearly every mid range and low range Porsche or Lamborghini on multiple courses around the world, even on the "American car track killer" the ring?
This isn't the past dude, get with the present and future, pretty much every American car is a quality car now, and Cadillac's have been getting named the best sports sedan on the market and now Dodge is taking that tittle and even more tittles from BMW and Mercedes thanks to just one sedan that can out perform a GTR for god sake. And all them with an interior that feels premium and quality made. I mean the Camero beat a Nissan GTR around a track for a lot less money, and now Dodge is doing it with their own muscle car and sports sedan. I mean dodge has already been doing this with a Viper (even though older Vipers don't have a pretty looking interior yes I agree there).
This BMW for what it is, has a terrible interior, no not in quality but just what it is. I wish BMW would stop doing this whole, business style interior because it just seriously is boring. The Corvette has a better interior in that matter, more technology, better design, same quality materials. It's not even about horsepower in this matter, the Corvette is better balanced has a better suspension and chassis, more technology in a better driver focused vehicle. The best of two worlds! I want an BMW M3 now and think that will be my next upgrade... I Love these cars!

Corvette sucks in balance. Here is a reason. Both uses eLSD but BMW M4 DTC engaged even sport+ applied while C7 can be turn off. Another fact is power. The C7 got more power and torque with a bad suspension.
Front camber angle of C7 is 0.6, caster= 7 and toe= 0.04
Rear camber angle of C7 is 0.5, caster=7 and toe= 0.07
There maybe a slight gap between other C7. However BMW M4
Front camber= -1.58, caster= 7.4 and toe= 0.00
Rear camber= -1.47, caster= 7.4 and toe= 0.00
In a easier way to express, BMW M4 have more front end adjustment and a sharper steering respond and more aggressive traction control. Both cars uses 1.5 way eLSD I guess, under deceleration both probably performs the same. However in turn out, the Corvette can't put the power down as balance as the M4, the Corvette just keep power oversteering by the gear ratio, the wheel spins too fast and the car is too low, lack of weight transfer ended up with lack of dynamic. You can balance a M4 by steering, braking and throttle but in Corvette, you can only slide the car under control with throttle.

True sports cars are purpose built and hence have only 2 seats like a Corvette. M4 has 4 seats so it is by definition compromised to carry additional passengers (ie like a sports sedan) which impacts weight, balance and aerodynamics. Same as mustang and camero. True sports cars have only 2 seats and are purpose built for performance.

Well, I have the M3, not the M4, cause I don't particularly like 2 seaters. And I hate the fact that Mustangs and Camaros look nearly identical among their models. Someone not a car junky isn't going to notice the difference between a $25k camaro and a $50k one because they look the same except for the exhaust pipes. At least the GT350 strayed a teeny tiny little bit and made the fender slot behind the front wheel to give it a little distinguishing appearance. And these cars are designed to attract high school girls, lot lizards, and bar sluts. No female doctor is going to get wet panties looking at a Camaro or Mustang, lololol.
In any case, cheap speed wasn't my main concern. If it were, I'd have bought this bicycle for $2,000 and destroyed bugattis all day long.

If you think cars will pick up chicks you are in for a sad awakening. If a M3 is the cars that makes you happy that's cool, but it's not performance leader in the $65k range and hasn't been for 5 years now.
For the guys looking to buy a street car that can race on the weekends, nobody in their right mind will choose an M-Anything. BMW coupes are awesome cars, but it's not a race car. The new vettes are a few tweaks from being race ready where the BMWs are thousands of dollars away from being race safe. If they actually talked about suspension, chassis design and lap times the BMW would leave the conversation quickly. Given the choice though, I'd probably pick the M4. Just not one that's baby crap green.

By itself I like the sound of the M4 - I love older M3s. But it just pales in comparison to the sound of the Corvette. This is the first time I've ever said that I prefer the sound of an american car, but its just better. Fact. I think the next go round of the M4 will probably improve the sound and bring it back in touch with it's roots in general -- hope so anyway.
We always had a vette in the family since I was born and the first car I ve owned was a BMW.. both are great sport cars for me. Few milliseconds difference in performance will not make a better car but dat vette sound is just soo gooood.
