fuck no! used is the best way to buy. a car as soon as it drives off the lot loses 10 percent of its value immediately. whoever told you used cars were bad is an idiot
What's wrong with a c5 or c6? The trouble with automotive technology today is it increases exponentially. What hot today will be obsolete in a few years. Buy that 2014 today and before it's paid off it will be obsolete. Most people buy cars for track ability that never see a track and risk other people's safety jackassing around on public roads...
The C5 looked like a tampon, didn't make much power, handled like a sheep and was very badly built. The C6 had all the same problems, except it looked like a gormless meat head, rather than a tampon. Neither had any redeeming qualities. I should know, I foolishly bought a C5.
***** Yes, mine. May it forever rust in hell. Except the engine block, that's now my living room coffee table. The bores are useful for storing magazines.
***** You're full of shit. You're trying to tell _me_ what _my_ car needed! You're a fucking pinnacle of logicless bullshittery. I DID own a C5, that's how I know that they cost an absolute fortune to fix. I did NOT fly to the US 'to drive the Stingray', I flew there for work. That just happened to accidentally involve driving a Corvette. Oh dear, what a shame, never mind.
***** I love being able to use bold and italic fonts now, it makes the whole process that bit easier, huh? Anyway, back to business. I've given accounts of the specific shiteness of the LS1 engine. I want to protect others from its wallet emptying power. I apologise if I've missed you out. Two cam swaps needed, the third was because the bloody thing snapped in half, which I'm prepared to accept as a one off manufacturing error. It happens occasionally, no biggie. The others wearing is not normal. Rings were changed as needed, I thought rather too frequently for my liking.Head gaskets, sensors, fuses, electronic control modules... little things, just had a habit of frying themselves for no discernable reason. As you can imagine, that's quite annoying, especially when it's all feckin' new. You laugh at things that you don't want to believe. Fine. Just don't get in a piss when I tell you that your blathering is exactly that. You don't _need_ an example when you're replying *DI* _FUCKING_ *RECTLY!* I'm avoiding nothing because I *did* drive the C7, fuckstick. I will do so again in the new year, and it will, hopefully, be good. (Looking forward to the new Mustang too. This should be good) Think back to your last holiday. Do you remember exactly which day you did everything? Which week even? I am not good with dates, fucking live with it, I have to. I have brief, but very frenzied trips in which I do a LOT, and you expect a date out of me. Well sorry, I don't actually care about dates in the past, and can't remember them anyway. (gets me into a lot of trouble remembering anniversaries..) and to be honest... does it really matter? If I'd have lied and said I'd driven a press one maybe you'd all have believed me. This is what you get when you tell an odd truth and everyone on the internet thinks they're Sherlock frikkin Holmes. Probably on as much drugs too. I'm not an engine designer, ok? BMW are quite chuffed with their fancy exhaust though, and it seems to work, to an extent. Certainly, the BMW engines aren't as lumpy as you'd expect. HOWEVER, a straight six would be much MUCH better... and that's what we've now got. The M3/M4 gets a straight six, which is bloody fantastic. It's nice to think that, maybe, just maybe, I had a teeny bit to do with that... Rambling again, this is the problem with not having a set purpose and time limit... AJ problems... I'd not heard of any, someone, possibly you, said that there were a lot when Ford used it, and they were expensive. As there are no real problems with the Jag AJ, it's only logical to assume that they're specific to the Ford version. These problems were obviously brought about by the detuning, as engines don't just become problematic for no reason at all. I am not imagining anything, merely explaining the problems that whomsoever it was (possibly you) mentioned, with logic.
That is a fair statement. I loved my 930 Turbo and my RX7 Turbo and have spent a good amount of time in Miatas at the track (they are like slot cars). I don't discount the integration portion of a sporting car, but outright speed is a leading factor for fun in my view and an unboosted 4 cylinder just doesn't cut the mustard. The smooth linear power and fabulous sound of a V8 is intoxicating. I would add that my (F55) C5 Corvette is no slow poke around a corner and my track times prove it.
man $50.000 usd for this car is not expensive in the US , but here in Argentina that price is the double, i mean, here this car would be around $180.000 usd .... pathetic
a muscle car and a true sports car is two very different things most of the time. from C5-to-C7 its been a move to shed most of those muscle car traits in favor of sportscar precision, mostly because of the corvette involvement in sportscar racing. Even cars like the mustang had been transformed by the likes of saleen as a truer sports car because saleen used mustang in the same racing series Lemans. Fact is, muscle car antics just isnt valid today. its pointless big power and no go or no control just doesn't cut it. so cars like the vette and mustang had to evolve past there roots. why get a car that cant lay down the power properly, only be proven in a straight line or will get beat by some marque with less power and more precision. doesnt make sense anymore. and im glad the factory's are finally looking past the 1960's. which never shouldve been over-glorified from the start.
***** Look it up dude. Corvette no matter the year are one of the most durable cars on the market. There're a ton of articles on it. Stop feeding people false info
Well Foxtrot is back and trolling again took him forever proves how slow he is but as expected when you drive a weak wannabe truck, everyone when you comment you can mute him and block him so its all good
The vette has never been considered a muscle car. It's always been a sports car but these newer models are considered supercars. GM is the only car company in America competing that's doing very well when it comes to racing against the euro cars. They've been leading several racing divisions in America going on close go 5 yrs I do believe. That's why I find the Ford vs GM fight so funny because all Ford is doing is straight line racing. Dodge has the new viper which is ok I guess. It's doing better times than the vette for now but the new zo6 is gonna destroy it. It already runs faster laps than the zr1. IMO I think Ford GM and dodge all three need to create a new breed of racing influenced cars and not continue making the same ones as they always have. Think outside the box and make a supercar and straight line racer that beats the rest. Stop making different versions of what it is you have and go all out and leave the classic remakes to enthusiasts and make something to let the American racing industry leave it's mark in the racing scene all over the world and stop limiting ourselves go just camaro, corvettes, mustangs and challengers and just up our game to the next level.
SOLD! Can't wait to order mine, test drove one the other day, everything being said here and more is true, great job by GM on this one! Tried the Cayman which I really like but for about 10K less and the fact I like the C7 better, it is a done deal.
Really? I, for once, found myself thinking "Wow, here is actually an American motor journalist who seems to know what he's talking about and is not just BSing all the way throught the review.."
Fair statement, looks are important. Personally I like the look of my paid for C5, not the fastest, not the most integrated or refined, not the best looking, but it sounds great, has a manual transmission, runs low to mid 4 second 0 to 60 and mid twelves in the quarter mile, has a removable top for nice days, gets 29 MPG on road trips & is dead reliable. Although no Ferrari 458,...it works for me & shows its tail lights to many cars twice & three times its price. That puts a smile on my face.
Of course, everyone has different tastes, but the reason the E type is so iconic is because of the fact that so many people, of incredibly varied tastes, absolutely adore it. You can't just say it's ugly. What about it is ugly. From where I sit, every line is perfect, you've got to show me the flaws through your eyes.
No one can speak badly of Lotus, Colin Chapman was a visionary and one of the most significant figures in all of racing. Period. His design and execution was beyond belief. "Adding Lightness" and better than Porsche handling were the keys to the kingdom.
I can't believe this but you are partially right. Whether you want to admit it or not the Corvette is a sports car. They are not hand built like Lamborghini so the waiting list isn't something standard that the Corvette will have. Most of the customers that would have bought one last year knew the C7 was coming out this year so they waited. That is why there is a 6 month waiting list for the C7.
Oscar, come now,.......the Corvette has been noteworthy for over 60 years, they must be doing something right if they are able to satisfy a nice chunk of a highly competitive segment. I (like many who post here) have to balance my life between owning a house, paying my expenses & having vehicles that fit my needs & budget. I just can't own & operate a Ferrari or a Porsche long term,...the parts and maintenance costs are astronomical. The Corvette is fast, reliable and somewhat affordable.
I know of a number of people who do. There are plenty to be seen dotted around in various multi storeys or railway station car parks. That indicates that they are day to day commuter vehicles.
All fair statements,.......I have owned both configurations and my main concern has always been power production..............both my current & excellent OHV and the my former & excellent OHCs (turbo and NAs) have been just fine........good stout power idle to redline. It is a great time to be a car guy.
True, you're just fucking around, as usual, throwing everything in to confusion to hide the fact that you're beat, you're dead, you've got nothing left. I've been around long enough to know diversion tactics when I see them and this is positively honking of it. Thank you and goodnight
400 HP from 5800 RPMs to 8000 RPMs, and about 170 lbs/ft of torque.............still I admire Honda VTEC motors. I had a 2000 Civic Si and Autocrossed it quite successfully for 3 years. Bulletproof comes to mind.
I have owned or driven them all (Lambos, Ferraris, RX7, Porsches, AWD Turbos (Stealth),...& NOTHING is as satisfying as my Corvette at 2200 to 6300 RPMS...it sounds fabulous & pulls like a freight train. I can go around corners like I am on rails or do a 75 foot burnout on a whim. I take the top out & I get all the sensations of a convertible & the safety of a closed coupe. The Magnetic Ride control is just icing on the cake. My only regret is not having a extra 60k for a new one. (kids)
I care because I love cars. If the one of the biggest auto manufacturers on the planet can use its vast assets to build a good car, then that's brilliant. I WANT that to happen, no, need it to happen. That's the dream, isn't it. A great car, at a great price. That's why the E type is such a legend. But the Corvette isn't a great car. Not when there's stuff available at the same, or even less cost, that's as good or better.
Drifting involves precisely no 'spinning tyres'. Drifting IS fun, tipping the car beyond the edge of reason, balancing it hard IN oversteer AND understeer. When I had my Corvette I could either have 5.7 litres and 340hp of gurgling, coughing V8 turgidness, or 5.3 litres and 400hp of howling, snarling V12 at my beck and call. When you've got a swoopy two seat V8 muscle sports car thing on your drive and your heart swings for the big ancient luxobarge every time, you know you're on to a winner.
Which is why is why it scores relatively low for US highway MPG. Not that the cars engine is not efficient but that its not designed to reach high mpg figures like the corvette or any porsche.
The advantage of magnetic shocks is not just the ultimate performance (which is world class), it is the amount of time it takes to make the adjustment in shock reaction which is unparallelled (accomplished by computer controlled magnets). The new magnetic systems are outstanding & used in many top line cars. GM has manufactured over 1 million small blocks & it is one of the most successful engine designs ever (lower stressed parts & no need for high revs). US only ? How about Australia ?
This new comment thing on youtube stopped all the trolls for the most part so thats good we can talk about how cool this corvette is now without their backlash and bs, so yay for that but its weird this comment thing but it's here to stay but we did get a few good things out of it spam went down and trolls arent smart enough to figure out how to comment now, take care everyone and have a great week
you know it man, they did this change to rule out spam and trolls, i knew he wouldn't figure out how to comment cause if he did he would've by now, he just aint smart, just full of hate and bs, now we can comment on corvette videos without his bullshit, the only reason why i like the change it stops the crap and just leaves comments
chevyllac091 Wow, this new chat setup really reduced the amount of nay-sayers on UA-cam searching for confrontations. I've periodically watched this particular argument for over a month with no end in site. This chat system update stopped it cold. Well anyways, it's nice to be able to post a simple comment without being repeatedly flamed for it. Sure, not everyone would agree with what you may have to say but there is no need to drag the argument out for months.
true that, i was at fault but my pints were valid but i am glad with the change it stopped it all completely pretty much proved the real people from just the trolls, and you are right we can comment now without someone talking shit or just making outrageous remarks that are clearly wrong
Oh, well forgive me for losing track of one of many conversations over '10-12' comments ago. The BMW M3? E30? E46? Be precise if you're going to pick up on simple mistakes. The S65 ALSO employs a trick exhaust to attempt to merge the pulses more evenly. It evens, but does not eradicate the mis-pulse. There is nothing false or bullshit, just lovely factual facts.
To be certain there is some differences on the perception of speed depending on your perspective, the lower to the ground you are, the increase in wind noise / resistance, if you have objects in your view that can give you the experience of speed as they approach and pass....and the sound of propulsion (jet, rotary, piston or virtually silent electric)....but there is no doubt speed is FUN. Go carts are great, Miatas and BRZs are fun, but a high powered, good handling rear drive V8 is nirvana.
I'm NOT talking about stopping distances, I'm talking about braking effort. An ABS system cuts in before the maximum retarding ability of the pads is reached, however, without it, it's possible to reach that point. Therefore maximum braking effort is only possible without ABS. Maximum braking effort is a combination of the tyres and brakes. What you're thinking of is maximum braking pressure, which is, ideally, at or just beyond maximum braking effort.
Josh Ochoa Why would u wait 3 years and it would be better to buy? They actually raised the price because so many were being sold. Good thing I got mine already.
Depends what you're looking for. Lotus's are all about the handling, they're never going to be power houses. Except the Carlton, that was a mad bit of kit.
For example, you are in third gear & you are coming to a turn where you wish to reduce your speed but you want to be in the meatiest part of the power range, as you brake, push in the clutch & begin to move the shifter into second gear, the computer automatically calculates the correct engine speed needed to be in second gear at that speed...the computer "blips" the motor to the perfect RPM & you pull the gear shifter into second....quite awesome. Old school is you calculate & do it manually.
Amen to that brother... this new stingray SCREAMS "I've got money" but its affordable. I've always hated American cars (especially the corvette) BUT, this is a game changer for me. I have seriously contemplated the GTR, but the GTR doesn't have the head turning pizzazz of the C7. I think the stingray is a tad sluggish however, and will need forced induction.
Voodoo8648 Funny, to me it screams "I haven't got enough money for a proper car, so I've bought this to make it look like I do, also, I have no taste and I like shouting REALLY loudly".
Sorry, the Jag F type came out this year too, and that actually IS a sports car, unlike this which is a sort of muscle car with a GT body and sporting pretensions. Also, the Jag is MUCH nicer.
Foxtrot Oscar Truth of the matter is, the general public doesn't have too much money... This is close as we can get to getting a super car without the price tag. (even tho it's not a supercar).
Joel Kim No, it isn't. Best you're going to get is a Lotus Exige or similar. One, 60k is still a LOT of money, it's hardly affordable. Two, it's nothing like a supercar. Having lots of power does NOT make it a supercar in any way. Three, the GT-R exists. It costs but a little more, and is a more capable, nicer car. If you want a supercar on the cheap, get an Exige, Evora, GT-R or 911. If you want an over priced plastic muscle car in a cheap frock, that has sporting pretensions, by all means buy the Corvette.
Yes, that is true. The performance of magnetic shocks isn't vastly different to the normal variety. In fact, it's probably slightly worse, as there's less options as to the inital viscosity of the liquid, and the magnets add weight. All it does is allow variation in the stiffness. For a pure performance application, non magnetic is probably still the way to go. Pretty much the only people to build engines in that class are the US. Pushrods require FAR more parts per valve to operate. FAR more.
Depends if you want to track or take long trips. Even a base will do over 1G compared to sedans at .77G. I got a 2017 base in manual transmission with performance exhaust so I can take daily commute and long trips comfortably and still get the awesome exhaust note.
I lived in Germany for 5 years and Corvettes are admired and respected because of the numbers they can put down and the excellent power plants encased in very slippery bodies. The C7 will be a huge hit. Effective use of technology newer or older is still significant if the numbers bear it out. The 911 is a great example of this concept......talk about taking a pig and making it into a fabulous automobile. What 68 percent of the weight on the rear wheels with the engine behind them ? Yikes.
There's a difference between minimalising 'technology' and deliberately going backwards against it, as GM are doing with their insistence on pushrods. A Lotus still employs a large amount of tech, from the cutting edge suspension designs, to the high tech materials and adhesives used to make them so light.. It's an elegance of simplicity through good use of the latest tech, rather than simply staying in the '40s.
First of all you said a misfire happens all the time on V8's and the miss can "jolt the entire car with surprising force". I don't have that problem. The exhaust burble is from uneven intake and exhaust pulse spacing for each bank, not misfiring.
Lots of people care about supercars. That's how they can find enough people who can afford the massive price tags attached. There's a massive supercar culture in the US, it's one of the best markets for them.
I said that, once. Then I drove an F40 and I've never looked at turbo's in the same way since. They're not worse, they're just... different. In some cars, it's nice to have that little cushion before full power. It gives you and the car time to get sorted. N/A is good, but not when it's making shit for power and adding nothing. The LSs are hardly lightning responsive, while the VR38 manages to be very near. My XJ12 is gorgeous, because I look after it properly. His obviously wasn't.
No, I'm correcting your perception of a comment. You seem to be very bad at reading what words actually MEAN. The Series 1 Jaguar E type was declared the most beautiful car in the world by the man who founded the company that has produced the most beautiful cars, Enzo Ferrari. The art museum in New York has an E type on display, as ART, it's so pretty. I can sit and look at mine for hours, just dreaming into space...
I used to. It was annoying. It's since been re-tuned for the track, and it's an absolute gem now. On track. It's a bitch on normal roads though. Heavy clutch, heavy brakes, engine won't idle cold below 1800 rpm, doesn't pull at low revs... but on track, the heavy clutch is great, the brakes, when warm, bite beautifully, the engine lights up past 4k and pulls like a medium sized black hole. Oh, and the ride is awful on road, but on smooth tracks it's supple and darts around with utter confidence.
Which Corvette did you own ? I also like a GOOD car that is well integrated, I have had a RX-7 Turbo, Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera on the better side (both manuals) & Stealth Twin Turbo & a IROC Z28 Camaro (both manuals) that were more disjointed, The C5 with Magnetic Ride Control I have now is somewhere in between those in terms of dynamics, but head & shoulders above them all in pure power & speed. The FUN in the driving is what matters though & again the Corvette is better (with the top out).
Sensors, fuses, piston, three sets of rings (one required a light honing) head gaskets (right hand bank more often, I found...) alternator, cam (three times, although one I believe was just a shit casting) bent pushrods... A complete new loom made electrical faults less frequent, but still present. Turbo's are efficient when they're not working. When accelerating constantly, like in city traffic, as soon as you make a little bit of boost, economy drops right off. To maintain 24 average is good.
True,.....like Mad Max, the last of the V8 Interceptors is coming soon. I will continue to smile every time I start and drive my V8,........the sound, the power, the efficiency is hard to believe. It uses less fuel than my V6 Honda Pilot.
Spend some time with any German or US automobile engineer & you would find that cars are the epitome of the nexus of science & transportation. Every part on a car from the oily bits to the lug nuts are engineered & tested & retested, adjustments made, then tested again. Accumulated knowledge is the bedrock of science, experiment & recreation of typical parameters is standard practice in every discipline. Racing sharpens these skills even more with extreme conditions that tax all components.
This is the video that sold me on the C7.

I just saw that in an ad the other day. I fell in love instantly.
Jorge A. Gonzalez yeah.... the car is absolutely beautiful.
Have you drove it? I haven't seen one in San Diego yet.
Dang dude. sexy. s1.cdn.autoevolution.com/images/news/2014-corvette-stingray-54465_1.jpg
Jorge A. Gonzalez nope. haven't driven one. haven't even seen one. and DAAAMN that flat black one is HAWT!
I would add that my (F55) C5 Corvette is no slow poke around a corner and my track times prove it.
man $50.000 usd for this car is not expensive in the US , but here in Argentina that price is the double, i mean, here this car would be around $180.000 usd .... pathetic
Armando Barreda you guys need a revolution
don't worry, in China it's 4 times
a muscle car and a true sports car is two very different things most of the time. from C5-to-C7 its been a move to shed most of those muscle car traits in favor of sportscar precision, mostly because of the corvette involvement in sportscar racing.
God, FINALLY GM. After 1997?? Yikes, no wonder the Japanese killed us in the auto market
That sucks. C'mon America!
really wow! I hope those were coincidence
***** Look it up dude. Corvette no matter the year are one of the most durable cars on the market. There're a ton of articles on it. Stop feeding people false info
The most "Durable?" I don't claim to be an expert, that's just my observation.
just sold on it. Stingray will be my next car!
eminem??
Well Foxtrot is back and trolling again took him forever proves how slow he is but as expected when you drive a weak wannabe truck, everyone when you comment you can mute him and block him so its all good
I saw foxtrots page, all that loser can do is bitch about American muscle, that troll would blow his grandpa for a ride in a Vette!
I started to reply to him but the hell with it isn't even worth it anymore. Everyone loves to the new corvette but him.
jp2kgt
I'll send you a link to a video where his racism and biased mind shows and where i shut him down time after time
Foxtrot Oscar
when did you drive a c7 cause when you said you did everyone caught you in a lie on this exact video
*****
its up above but i think the video is removed :/
THIS DUUUUUDE IS SO BORING
Kind of makes me appreciate the lively reviews ya know dude!
your boring
Noooo. I'm exciting. And interesting.
Really?
I, for once, found myself thinking "Wow, here is actually an American motor journalist who seems to know what he's talking about and is not just BSing all the way throught the review.."
***** It's monotone. Slow. Unimaginative. Too bookish
Excellent Review. Watched it twice.
Man you are excellent at reviews!
I usually fast forward through these vids but this was a very good review
Seen one today and it is amazIng! It's has the looks of a $100,000+ car, so sexy!
Just saw a blue stingray in person yesterday they look good in the videos but a lot better in person.
Best bang for your buck PERIOD! America is back!!
For the money...its got the design looks performance and history ...the best in the world!!!
Test drove the C7 stingray ~ impressive.
Beautiful car. Finally, the American's made a worthy sports car. I would consider this over an NSX because it stays true to it's roots...
I know of a number of people who do. There are plenty to be seen dotted around in various multi storeys or railway station car parks. That indicates that they are day to day commuter vehicles.
Chevrolet once again redefines what a affordable world class sports car can be.
And those very early cars are the prettiest, and the nicest to drive. Just simple, civilised sports cars.
(kids)
Sounds sick.. Finally got everything right.
Exactly. You can't hate 'on' something, you can only feel hatred towards it.
Super car quality without a super car´s price... the best thing of Corvette!
Great host. Well spoken and intelligent review.
Thank you Google and UA-cam. No more Fox and his hate.
you know it man, they did this change to rule out spam and trolls, i knew he wouldn't figure out how to comment cause if he did he would've by now, he just aint smart, just full of hate and bs, now we can comment on corvette videos without his bullshit, the only reason why i like the change it stops the crap and just leaves comments
chevyllac091
Wow, this new chat setup really reduced the amount of nay-sayers on UA-cam searching for confrontations.
I found some troll but not the ones from this video. GTR fanboys are everywhere
I know this is completely off subject but knowing you are you, what are your thoughts about the C7 Stingray?
you are very lucky what will you do with it?
Not an expert, just more knowledgeable than many. I owned one, and drive them and other cars for a living.
Awesome review, thanks for sharing!
I'm going to buy this car.
This is the exact one I built on Chevrolet.com. I will wait two years and get one. They will be about $45k then.
pwally2714 yeah im waiting at least 3 years it wil be worth the wait.
awesome car, read the reviews, they have given it many stars. I will buy it soon.
Josh Ochoa
Why would u wait 3 years and it would be better to buy? They actually raised the price because so many were being sold. Good thing I got mine already.
Jyan Lan im buying a used one.
I have watched this video at least 20 times. DAT EXHAUST NOTE.
Price?
Depends what you're looking for. Lotus's are all about the handling, they're never going to be power houses. Except the Carlton, that was a mad bit of kit.
This car looks awesome!
It is a big muscle-car engine in a supercar-body and i love it!
Its a sport/supercar not muscle
The best 2013 sports car.. i'm not a big fan of american brand cars in general.. but i would buy this in a heartbeat.. even over a gtr/ferrari/lambo.
Foxtrot Oscar
Truth of the matter is, the general public doesn't have too much money...
FAR more.
is a z51 worth it or should i just get a base 2015 stingray?
Definitely get the Z51 package!!!! No question!
Yikes.
I own this car.
I love it
This is my future car. And that is a fact.
There's still more romance and glamour in a Merc or an Audi than in a Chevrolet...
Just listen that! And the looks !! -----> lottery ticket for this weekend :D
Nice video !
Ever seen the movie Rudy ? Now there is a tear jerker.
No problem, I enjoy talking about her. She's a good old girl and makes me happy. What more could a bloke want, eh?
I'm looking at a 2014 stingray ad, and I get a commercial from a Toyota dealership! Somebody in marketing needs to have a talk...
this makes me sad that this is the Corvette we can't have anymore
beautiful stuff , good job chevy.
Corvette's motors are hand made. The guy that makes them even signs it.
Good review, and this dude looks cool!
How much does gas cost each month for this car?
