      Same here. It's fascinating, but I know myself well enough to know I lack the concentration and mental discipline to do it right. Besides, my local casino uses a contunuous shuffle machine sometimes after every deal, but usually after every 3 or 4. That makes it impossible for anyone.

      Bill Lawrence mate it a shame you’re local has got CSMs. I went on a 3 day visit recently and arrived and they’d closed their VIP and only had CSMs available. I did play them and did make wages but probably had a slight disadvantage over all. I was also comped at that venue so had have some turnover. To get the Room Food and Beverages. I’ve played part time for 20 years and yes made good extra dollars. I went full time 12 months ago and doing pretty good. COVID hasn’t helped. Yes I agree Colin’s. Intent is great.

      @@lethalspics292 Don’t sweat not “Counting”. Here is what to learn… “BASIC STRATEGY” for the Casino and better yet the particular table you’re playing at. Learn it PERFECTLY - PLAY it PERFECTLY - and PLAY IT PERFECTLY EVERY HAND, NEVER DEVIATE! Of course - KNOW the rules for the table you are playing at. If you don’t know the rules “ASK”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The dealer will tell you but maybe not all of them so learn the “Player Options” offered at the Casino and at the particular table. Yes, Rules can vary within the casino depending on table limits (min - max bets). Rules such as does the Casino allow the player to “Surrender” Early or Late? That is just 1 that 99% of the players sitting and playing never even heard of!!! Now - DO NOT believe all these Card Counting videos and programs being offered. Including this one you are watching. Although the player can increase his or her over-all win / loss numbers slightly for the better, there will still be many days when NOTHING WORKS and your ass will be handed you! (What I mean there is that instead of losing 10 Thousand a month - maybe only lose 8,500!!!!!! Most important - Never never never never never play for any reason other that to entertain yourself and only when you can afford to easily lose EVERY CENT you brought to the table. Let me add - In the entirety of Las Vegas there are maybe less then 10 successful (Full-time able to make a living) Card Counters. And NOBODY knows who they are. The last thing on Earth they would do is make a Card Counting Video and plaster it all over You-Tube! I hope you consider what I just took time to say. I can say a lot more…. On ANY of the casino GAMES, including Craps, Roulette and Slots. In fact, I am PERFECT at playing all 3 of them. The funny part is that YOU ARE TOO!!! If you would like - I can explain why. P.S. Think of the absolute best “Counters - Yes all 8, 9 or 10 of them! If they play 180 days a year - Each will have anywhere from “75 to 95 WINNING DAYS”. Point being ‘Counting” does not Guarantee a winning day. Far from it.

      @@billlawrence1899 Bill - Well “IF” you Enjoy playing and can afford a not so cheap “hobby” and want to play BJ - It is no problem playing where you are. At a minimum, think of it this way - The game is on the Up & Up! BUT I cannot stress enough - Learn the BASIC STRATEGY for the rules at the table you will be playing at. A LOT of so-called players roll their eyes at the mention of “BASIC” but that’s because THEY DON’T KNOW BASIC STRATEGY. Serious - it is just a little frustrating at first to learn. But YOU will learn it and Like it much quicker than you think! The only difficult thing at first is sticking to it 100% of the time. Once you learn it you will understand --- BJ IS NOT a GUESSING GAME! I will guarantee one thing - Your understanding and the amount of enjoyment you get will increase. Good luck!

    3:52 Another big issue with crowded tables is the large change in the count with a single round. You tirelessly count for several shoes until you finally get a high enough positive to increase your bet and it can be wiped out or even go negative in one round to five or six players. Just you and the dealer is best but I like one other player there just to take all the focus off me.

    • @jeffb1886

      100% correct. I found myself moving to the edge of my chair when the count when thru the roof only to see it go back to 0 in 1 or 2 hands with a crowded table. It hit me that this was a total waste of time. Me+1 other is perfect. Not only does it "spread the focus", but it allow you to step away for a "phone call" when the count goes negative. Wait it out, then jump back in. Well stated.

      In Europe, the rule is worse that almost no surrender offered, ENHC rule in place that additional bets are lost on dealer BJ and double down only on 9-11 or 10-11 (luckily in UK doubling on soft hands is allowed). The only good rule is that almost all casinos state that the dealer must stand on soft 17.
      If it is a shoe game, I don’t mind ENHC that much because it is compensated by S17 rule, as far as you can double any soft hands and double after split. The casinos do not put serious concern on card counting compared to America so card counting is easier, Finally, watch out for penetration too,

      Today, most of the money is won in 6 and 8 deck games because they are universally available, and it is harder for a casino to identify a counter in those games. Those 1 and 2 deck games require at least some betting camo in order to stay undetected at $50 level or higher. Today's biggest advantage over the 1970's is the proliferation of so many casinos to spread out your action at. Of course, one thing about Vegas that hasn't changed is they have increasingly resorted to nickeling and diming their contestants, making conditions worse, and resorted to full blown scrutiny against players who play a decent game and calling checks play over the smallest betting raises, forcing players to resort to wonging, or betting big at the beginning of the shoe and leaving the moment the count goes negative, even after 1 hand if necessary.

    As for playing crowded tables, it is not just about the amount of hands you get to play, but having so many cards go out affects the count. The count can change drastically by the time that second card gets in front of you, thus negating your bet you did at the start of the hand when the count was high or low. The most I'll play with at a table is two other people.

      @aerialsnack 2 роки тому +1

      Hello! I haven't used any of Blackjack Apprentices programs, although this video was definitely nice and I agree with all of it. In my opinion, there are two really effective ways to practice. The first is to get another player and deal to each other and point out each other's mistakes. This has the added benefit of being able to practice acting natural, as they can tell you when you look like you're counting. The other way is to use software like CVBlackJack. CVBlackJack simulates a blackjack table and has a ton of customizable options so you can recreate the exact ruleset and other things (dealer speed, dealer errors, stuff like that) of where you plan to play. It has the added benefit of being able to tell you when you vary from your playing or betting strategy as well, and you can get a lot more practice in a shorter amount of time.

      Hi Nic,
      In general most dealers are nice and want you to win, every now and again you get a grumpy one who doesn't seem to care too much. Most of the Pit Bosses and Supervisors start to sweat when your bets go large. Probably after big action you should change pits or take a break, ie going to dinner/toilet etc. also if you've been betting big, try and get a compd meal voucher from them. most times they'll give you one. I love heads up play, its fast and your EV increases heaps.
      Just a side note, had a great dealer recently, fastest I've played with, after a few shoes I complimented her and then we played the next shoe, 6 decks one cut off, at the end I saw her look at her watch. I asked if she was timing us, she said yes 8 mins. wow Not sure what the HPH was but it was fast!
      Neg shoes I try n play thru if only low numbers, u should walk phone or toilet break if it goes too sour, minus 2 is a trigger for me. on a positive note, during covid, I played for the past 3 months, every day, fully comped, and had a positive outcome of $27,819 ahead. Most living expenses were covered during this time as well. ie food, drinks and room. cheers

    My biggest mistake that I’m working on is that I have the “refuse to lose” mentality (I am a former boxer) which doesn’t work with card counting. So I’ll bet low when the count is down, then as the true count rises I begin to increase my bet, as a card counter should. And sometime I make lots of profit when the TT is high. BUT sometimes the cards don’t fall right and you lose even when the count is high and I’ll start betting recklessly to win my losses back because I’m thinking “well the count is high right? So I’m likely to win this next one” then I’ll lose that hand. So I’ll double again thinking “ok it’s IMPOSSIBLE that I’ll lose three in a row while the count is high.” and then both players at the table with me get a blackjack but I’m dealt a ten and a five against the dealers ten…soon everything is gone and I’m sitting there wondering what the hell just happened. Not all my money is gone mind you. Just the five hundred bucks or so I brought to the casino only with. I have trouble sticking to the proper betting strategy because of my “refuse to lose” way of thinking.

    I would be interested in knowing if there is a way to count for the side bet "Match the Dealer." (I mostly play Spanish 21 and don't play side bets.) It seems that it would make sense that the more matches you see, the more there will be further into the shoe because as you remove suited and offsuit matches from the shoe (relative to density), what's left but more matches?
    I would also be interested in seeing some videos on counting cards (and then what to do) in Spanish 21. I know it's possible and slightly different or more complicated than in blackjack. It would hardly be expected and probably no one working at the casino would know how to do it.
    I play basic strategy 100% in Spanish 21 and do pretty well with my betting strategy. Just looking on ways to improve my game. Thanks!

    There is one change that never gets mentioned in these videos (or in the comments). I've won a rather significant amount of money over the years. But I am convinced that repeat play as a card counter in today's age of really superb facial recognition technology is just not possible. Your local small casino may not spend the money on it, but the larger ones in LV and elsewhere will. I've been banned from playing in most of the larger LV casinos with the best conditions, as well as some mid-sized ones in my local area. Even after staying away from LV for a few months, I've been backed off again after returning and sitting down for only a few minutes....even before the cocktail waitress was able to bring my drink! I'm convinced I was scanned and flagged as I sat down. This may be an extreme example, but I'm also convinced I'll only get to play 8x or 10x bets for 1 or 2 shoes before its time to either head for the exits, or be shown the door. And then I can't go back. When on vacation, I still may stop in somewhere and play for abit. But unless you want to travel and move around as a lifestyle, I no longer see a way to play and win "over the long run".

    I think even if you’re an expert and nearly perfect the grind would be unbearable. The amount of advantage you can generate is still relatively small you’re going to spend a bazillion hours at the blackjack table… i’d probably do everything right, lay down a big bet on the perfect probability, and somehow Still lose, i’d be second-guessing myself being sure I must’ve messed up the count, never knowing exactly what happened, did I play it right and it was just bad luck or did I somehow make a mistake??? however the idea of cleaning out casinos does sound so cool!

    Most casino's love prospective card counters, they lose prodigious amounts of cash very quickly in almost every case. In fact, many Casino's now openly invite people who declare themselves card counters. There are numerous ways to defeat a card counter without removing them from the table, better to keep them at the table and wipe them out in an hour or two

    I tried a blackjack simulator to see how I'd do to avoid one of your pitfalls although I'm not planning to ever try to use this with any real money. I've found that my early pitfall is to give too much credit to what the count is, and keep trying to do things like double with 44 vs a 6 or 7 upcard when the count is around +20 (with an ambiguous 6+ decks though which drives me crazy since I don't know the true true count), but the training program keeps telling me I should do something else and I kinda just do worse than if I just followed basic strategy.

I can’t wait to actually go to the casino. I have two close by. I’m used to playing online but I still don’t count cards I just stick to the basic rules like don’t hit when dealer has a bust card (unless you have 11 and below of course) but just to throw off the game I might hit on a 16 when the dealer shows a 5 or 6 lol

    It's easy to win a little if you are disciplined. It's difficult to win a lot. A casino that only lets you split aces once sucks. There's other rules some casinos use that ruin the game. Where I played the tables were always full. If you wanted to play with just a few players you had to play higher stakes. Getting comps for buffet was not that difficult. I was never comped a room. With enough study I think low stakes poker is easier to make money because many of your opponents suck at the game. I rarely go any more because the fun ram out. Try day trading the stock market if you want some nervous fun.

    Hey Colin what do you say to edge sorting?

  • @dicksonshorts
    @dicksonshorts 3 роки тому +2

    Humble question here:
    How come playing 4 decks seems to go bad quick? Even when the count is really good, the shoe is very rich and even towards the end of the shoe, the hands you’re supposed to win don’t deliver the percentage correctly?
    I went as far as playing this countless times at tables, built my own table to mock a 4 deck game and came out with the same results:
    Long run 4 deck seems to break you faster than it’ll ever make you.
    The caveat is I know how to do it all and play 6-8 deck all the time and prefer it. But I have a bunch of 4 deck tables in my actual town and don’t want to always have to travel just to play 6-8 decks.
    Thank you guys. Cheers.
