The combination of Greg Rolli and Steve Perry makes this one of the greatest back to back songs ever!
Steve and Gregg were magic together. Perfect harmonies. Here you can already hear what a sensational frontman Steve would become. His voice is sensational. I love Lay it Down, Mother Father, Suzanne, Why Can't This Night Go On Forever, Still they Ride (live from Japan 1983) or any of Steve's solo stuff (Strung Out, Oh Sherrie)

The saddest thing is these guys were one of the best bands in the late 70s & 80s and unfortunately they never have won a Grammy. Which when you see the artist today that have Grammys. 😢

My favorite Journey years! Gregg is my favorite! Checkout the 50 yr anniversary where Greg Joins the band for a few songs along with TOTOS steve Lukethord and do a couple SANTANA SONGS! REMEMBER NEAL SCHON AND GREG ROLLIE PLAYED IN SANTANTA before forming Journey!

We wore this album to a nub as teens.
First time I saw them was back in 1979... a fantastic show
I saw them on that tour with Eddie Money and Pat Benatar opening. It was the largest concert in Flint, MI history at the time. I wore my first copy of this album out and I am happily impressed that i remembered all the lyrics. They were unbelievable live, especially when Steve Perry left the stage for a couple jam instrumentals with the original members. Good reactions.
I got to see them in '82 ( I think) when they opened for Montrose - no Hagar just instrumental. They were amazing. The band hung out not far from where I was sitting to watch Montrose after their set. They were able to hang amongst the audience without being bothered.
Try"Someday Soon" from Departure. "Patiently", from Infinity. His voice on this track brought tears. Truly!
Listen to something to hide from this album!! Steve’s vocals are out of this world on it and towards the end he mimics the guitar with his voice and his range is an amazing!! ❤❤❤

From the Infinity Album (Patiently) is a great choice next. But I'd recommend watching that then the live from The Midnight Special, back to back...In my opinion the live version is the best..also (Winds of March) is also beautiful...

Just a little rock n roll trivia tidbit. FYI, Lead guitarist Neal Schon and Greg Rollie keyboards were both in the band of SANTANA. Rollie, did lead vocals of the song "Black Magic Woman" and Neal Schon was only a 15 year old kid when he was asked to Join the band. Putting together the band Journey, with Steve Perry wasn't received well. Thank the band manager for convincing them to give it time and be patient. Speaking of being patient. Just ask Neal Schon about Steve Perry and him collaborating for their first sit down with only his guitar and the first few notes he played. They knew they had magic in a bottle. Hence the hit, "Patiently"

All of the songs on this album are really great, this is Steve Perry's debut with Journey and imo, it's his best, I mean, his vocals are just glorious! I've owned this album twice because someone actually stole it from me back in the 70's, and then in the 80's! I guess they really loved the album too. Really, you should take time out and listen to the whole album. Thanks for FINALLY playing something else from this album besides "Wheel In The Sky", like others usually do.
Salvo G, Steve Perry with Journey have so many beautifully lesser known songs that will blow you away like "Still She Cries," the piano so hauntingly beautiful in this one especially towards the end of the song.

Anything from departure is good. Best album in my opinion. I’m Crying, Precious Time, or Where Were You are my top 3 from the album. They rock and Steve sings his ass off.
To me this is the perfect transition from old Journey into what would become the Steve Perry Journey, with the best of both vocal styles.

The first singer, keyboardist Gregg Rolie is the same guy who sang "Black Magic Woman" when he was with Santana.
The three albums: "Infinity - Evolution" and "Departure" are some of the best records of the 70s. (though, Departure was 1980).
The studio versions are great, but the midnight special live versions are soo good

The great Aynsley Dunbar on drums. He played on albums by Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Michael Schenker and UFO, Jefferson Starship, Whitesnake, and Ian Hunter, among others. Aynsley was like an octopus, but he knew when to scale it back, too. Check him out on the first 3 (pre-Steve Perry) Journey albums, when they were a jam band. Topaz is a great instrumental that showcases the guitar prowess of Neal Schon along with Aynsley’s drumming.

For Trial By Fire reunion album and last with Steve Perry, strong, solid album throughout that continues in a similar vain as the previous album RoR, with a few heftier more adventurous departures scattered throughout (Message of Love, One More, Castles Burning, Can’t Tame the Lion), the bulk are pop/rock/r&b tinged ballads that give ‘the Voice’ a remarkable platform to sing from. When You Love A Woman (Grammy nominated). Weaker tracks to push for last probably Colours of the Spirit, It’s Just the Rain, and I Can See It In Your Eyes. Not that they’re bad. Journey doesn’t make bad music. Just unremarkable, imo, by comparison. Honorable mentions and absolutely worthy to listen to are from Evolution: Loving you is Easy, Do You Recall, Daydream, When You’re Alone It Ain’t Easy and Lady Luck and then from Departure: Good Morning Girl, Homemade Love, Natural Thing and Little Girl. I like I’m Crying also. Well, this should keep you going on your Journey journey for quite a while. I know I personally am looking forward to every minute of it. Thank you.🙏 ❤
Raised on Radio came after Perry’s first solo album and saw him gain a bit more power and creative control over the direction and production. Since he was pushing them in a more r&b and soul infused direction, back to his roots and primary influences as a singer, during the recording some of the band wasn’t happy with where things seem to be heading and Perry wasn’t satisfied with the feel and wanted to make a change in the rhythm section to better suit the new material. In come a new drummer and bassist, Randy Jackson, of American Idol fame later. But after another extended break, when they reunited for Trial by Fire, Steve Smith and Ross Valory were back in the lineup. More recently they were fired again for conspiring against Neil Schon primarily to try to gain additional legal control be able to stop touring but still get paid I think was the gist. A lot of reports and rumors of turmoil and in-fighting unfortunately these days. A few years back Neal and Greg Rollie put together some dates as “Journey through Time” with drummer Deen Castronovo performing Perry’s lead vocal parts from behind the kit. I so badly wish I could have made one of those shows and wish a longer tour had ensued, but I believe there were some shenanigans going on that caused Greg to not agree to it. Videos of those performances are on YT. Good stuff! Most recently rumors and speculation of a possible limited reunion with Perry. I know his voice isn’t what it once was, but that would still be magical and I would make every attempt to see them if that somehow actually comes to fruition.😊

This was their best album. friends and i found this album with no cover on the rail road tracks. we took it home and put it on the turntable. And WOW we were hooked. great album. Might want to try Winds of March off the same album

Have you ever listened to Dixie Highway? It’s a great song, instruments 🎸 drums, vocals, Gregg Rollie on keyboards - changes like 3 times and I don’t know if it was recorded to a specific album. They did it live in a Japan recording and another in the states. Gregg was killing it and of course Neal’s guitar it’s a must hear.
I first got into Journey in early high school after Remember the Future was released and my favorite era of Journey is that album and the 1st 3 albums with Steve Perry. (Infinity, Evolution, and Departure). That's when they were at their peak for me, and those early albums made them the legends that they are now.

Another Song by Journey that I Like is " Only the Young " it was used as the Sound Track for the Movie " Vision Qwest ", I thought it was a Pretty Good Movie I watched it a couple of times, Another Song I like is " I'll be Alright Without You "( Official Video 1986 ).
You give the impression that this is just one song, when in reality it is two. I'm assuming you realized that after shooting the video, since your video title is correct. AOR radio (and classic rock stations today) always played these back-to-back, just like We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions, and The Spider/Portrait (He Knew) - Kansas Point of Know Return, 1977. There must have been something in the water in 1977 - 1978, because I can't think of any other songs in AOR rock history that were paired up on albums and played together like these three (I can't remember if the Cars' Bye Bye Love/Moving in Stereo were played together). I would include Foreplay/Long Time but feel that Foreplay was meant to be coupled with Long Time, whereas these others were not originally conceived as such. What is really fun is that all three bands (Four in you count the Cars), share a common thread: Roy Thomas Baker produced Infinity after working with Queen, and Kansas took over for Queen on the '74 Mott the Hoople tour, and I think opened for Queen in '75 or '76.

This is still my first and favorite album by Journey they were to dropped from their label, then in,comes Steve and it history from there.
There's one pre-Steve Perry "Journey" tune I think you should check out. It's titled "Look Into the Future" and it really showcases Neal Schon going crazy on the guitar, some great Gregg Rolie keyboards, and an overall venture into Progressive Rock at its finest.

These two songs are in my top few favorite Journey songs of all time. Infinity is one of the best albums ever. There are many, many Journey songs that you are sure to love. There is the ever popular Don't Stop Believin' but you could also go with Stone in Love, Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin', Any Way You Want It-just a couple of suggestions.
I think a great live song to listen to is from their album Raised on Radio called "Girl Can't Help It".
Back in high school (1977 or so) I saw them live and also played the second song “Anytime” in my rock band! I sang lead, our lead singer sang Steve Perry’s part, and I absolutely nailed the guitar solo on my white Les Paul custom guitar. 😊 Memories from my childhood!
I was always a fan of Gregg and Steve singing together. Although, different songs, radio stations would often play them together. Met Gregg during a performance a while back. Great guy.
