Steve Perry is one of the best technical singers in rock history. Perfect pitch, pure voice, and sounds just as good live as he does in the studio. Please listen to more by them.
Come on ... he's aka "The Voice" so you're obviously so so right. But I also become shivers when Steve Smith goes in with the drums. Best part of all times.
At my age now genx I gotta say he's one, the others are millions. Its funny how Steve and Whitney are the male and female gave been called "the voice".
You are absolutely right. Went to several of their shows in the day-only concerts I ever cried at, during and when they were over. It was such an emotional experience. None like it.
I love the official music 🎵 video to this song. This song is my and hubby’s song … 35 years now. Nobody delivers a power ballad like Steve Perry and Journey.
If your are listening to Journey’s older music don’t listen to anyone one of their lead singers over the years except for The Voice himself… Mr Steve Perry! He is my number 1 favorite singer EVER!!!!!!!! They call him The Voice for a reason!!!
Steve Perry’s voice is one of the very finest. Journey sounds just as spectacular in their videos of live concerts, which is my gold standard. So impressive. You can’t pick a bad song of theirs.
This song is genius. No chorus: doesn’t need one. Starts with a single quiet piano riff and crescendos into this full band, whaling guitar, Perry nailing the vocals, just an insane tune.
Never forget this vocalist STEVE PERRY, you know why...because you will never hear someone like him in your life...how special that you, being young, are amazed by this video...imagine a whole generation who lived it .... PRICELESS Thank you.
Most beautiful line ever is “I get the joy of rediscovering you”. Love Steve Perry, love Journey and wish I had a time machine to go back to those days of my youth.
Greg Rollie was Journey's original singer. Steve came on board to share vocals with Greg for the Infinity album, and Greg left after the Evolution album.
The official music video is so important to watch! I’m so bummed you didn’t react to it. It portrays the entire meaning of the song! I wanted to yell STEVE PERRY lol. He is The Voice of the 80’s. Journey has a huge catalog of hits and Steve’s voice is iconic.
This official music video for this song is actually pretty great. It gives a visual story to the lyrics in a way most music videos don't. It definitely adds to the emotion of the song, when watching the video.
Who knew, in 1969, that Steve Perry would turn out to be one of the best rock vocalists ever! In high school, he was a senior and I was a freshman. He didn't know I was alive, but I knew who he was - he was friends with my next door neighbors. I snuck out my bedroom window to go to the graduation party next door, but didn't get to talk to him. I faded out fast after 1 beer and snuck back home!
The studio version is good, BUT sitting in the arena hearing Steve belt this out live is amazing. Been there, done that, had the T-shirt. Brendan Byrne arena, East Rutherford, NJ May 1983. There is a live version from that tour on UA-cam.
The one singing is Steve Perry the best journey lead singer & best Rock voice ever, he's known as the voice, need I say more.🎸 They became far more popular due to Steve Perry.
Voice coaches are amazed by his voice. There is so many elements to vocals, but his range which is God-given. You can’t learn that you can advance it, but it’s a innate talent. His register is phenomenal his tonality his breathing you can’t hear one gas from his mouth or his lungs It’s just unbelievable. 🍷🇮🇹💋🙏
True story! One day someone asked me, who is the only group that you would sleep in line overnight for tickets to see? I said JOURNEY, without a doubt! The very next week they announce that they would be in my city soon! So I got tickets for their RAISED ON RADIO tour, which ended up being their last tour with Steve Perry at vocals! They did NOT disappoint!
Im glad I got to see them with Steve in 1979 on the Evolution tour. I've forgetten alot of concerts from then but that one still stands out. I just remember on every song Steve laying out the vocals then he would step back and Neil stepped forward and opened fire 🎸🤩
Journey played in Houston, Tx for 3 sold out shows. My best friend and I went to the last 2 shows! And then I Journey for the ROR tour as well (in Houston) and saw Perry for his first solo tour in 1994!! Some of the GREATEST nights EVER!!!
As others have suggested, you need to do Mother Father the live from Houston concert. In fact if you have the time you should do the whole concert to really grasp just how good and hard working these 80’s groups are.
For Steve Perry's best vocal performance ever, listen to and watch Journey "Mother Father" live 1981 in Houston. Steve said it was the hardest song to sing live. It will blow you away!! Always do Journet live versions. They are even bettter live.
Steve Perry aka "The Voice", is pure perfection. His talent is amazing and although the band is still performing with a new lead, it doesn't come close to Steve Perry's contribution to this band. He had a successful career a a solo artist as well. There are many great Journey songs, " Lights" is my personal favorite..you just can't get enough of Steve Perry's voice.
Where have you been, just hearing journey faithfully, you are finally on track, but wow 😅, this is real music, how you been without is beyond me. Good luck with your reactions 😊
Your a prize kiddo. So fun to listen with you. Class. Journey is one of the classiest rock bands of all time. Steve Perry. Amazing singer. I saw them live in Oakland in 79 and we were in shock. Steve Perry actually sounded better than on their pristine records. The guy is one of the best singers in popular music history. Super soulful singer.
STEVE PERRY. Has the most beatiful, amazing, one of a kind voice that melts me every single time i hear him sing. ❤️ i love you steve. You are the best singer ive ever heard, that voice is so off the charts. Im in my emotions and feelings when i hear you sing. Absolutely incredible.. .
Side note, I love that you do so much research. So many people just assume that the song is however old it is since someone uploaded it onto youtube, which is really annoying. Thank you for checking up before you start!
Hello Marilyn, how're you doing? Your comments caught my attention and that is why I am reaching out to you. Your fan love for me warms my heart, Thank you! It's nice meeting you here.
Dont know how I missed some of ur Journey but Im here now, lol. Dont always get to comment, my illness gives me trouble trying to type. When I can I sure will. Always best to try and find them live sounds same recorded or live. One of the great things about Steve. Even tho Arnel does an amazing job, no one can top the original The Voice aka Steve Perry. Really phenomenal song, beautiful. Thanx so much, Peace
I will always love Journey! Thank you, for taking me back to summer I met my husband! We listened to Journey, The Police, Phil Collin's and so many other truly amazing greats!
Once upon a time many years ago I was friends with a DJ at 94.9 Zeta 4. I was in the studio with my friend during one of his shifts and this song came up on the play list. He smiled at me and said, "There's only one way to listen to this song: Really loud." He then cranked up these massive studio speaker to like 80 Dbs and we just rocked out to it. To this day I can't hear this song and not think of that moment.
Journey owns two of the greatest power ballads of all time... 'Faithfully' and 'Open Arms'. One other classic rock band with two of the other greatest power ballads is Foreigner with 'I've Been Waiting For a Girl Like You' and 'I Want to Know What Love Is'. Definitely check these out... Lou Gramm's voice is on a par with Steve Perry's.
Wow finally! Your audience has been waiting for another Journey reaction after you reacted to Wheel In The Sky, a month ago. So Thank you! About Faithfully, Keyboardist Jonathan Cain wrote it for his then wife about the difficulties of touring, being married and the long separations on the road, yet remaining faithful. Steve Perry is the lead singer of all of Journey's iconic songs from October 1977 through 1987 and again from 1995 - 1998. After Steve left the band Journey has had 3 or 4 lead singers the current one being Arnel Pineda all required to sound like Steve Perry who co- wrote most all the iconic songs with Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon. It's Steve Perry's soaring vocal range paired with the chemistry of these crazy, talented musicians that brought the success to Journey. The one and only Steve Perry is known as "The Voice", a named so by Jon Bon Jovie. Please listen to Journey with Steve Perry live in concert performances too, you haven't even begun to be blown away. The love they showed performing live for their fans really comes through. Recommend: "Still They Ride" live from Tokyo 1983 "Mother Father" live from Houston Escape Tour 1981. "Why Can't This Night Go on Forever" official video.
Still They Ride 1983 Philadelphia is even better than the Tokyo/Budokan video. Steve had a cold in Tokyo. He does a lot more cool stuff with it in Philly.
SalvoG when Steve Perry left journey, the band tryed with a lot of lead singers looking for a voice similar to Perry. Great band and with a lot of love song that can you fell in your heart. Great reaction thanks again SalvoG
I love the song When You Love a Woman, the official video to it shows so much emotion in Steve's face and the music is gorgeous, As for one of my fave songs he did on his earlier solo album, I never get tired of Foolish Heart, another gorgeous display of his vocal talent. He started recording solo again a few years ago and has some great newer songs as well.
They are amazing live, I’ve seen them 3 times. Steve sounds just like the albums. Jon Bon Jovi gave him the name “The Voice” It’s so crazy listening to their songs with Headphones on, the DRUMS are amazing. I never really noticed it real time! Very powerful Ballad!!!
There’s no-one that compares with Steve. Simply put.
It’s only Journey if Steve Perry is singing.
Steve Perry… The Voice. As far as I’m concerned, there is no Journey without Perry.
Steve Smith said something similar when he quit the band after Steve Perry left. Smith said that Journey isn't a band without Steve Perry in it.
This should be no surprise. Steve Perry is The Voice!
“I get the joy of rediscovering you” the best lyric sung by the best vocalist of all time.
Steve Perry is one of the best technical singers in rock history. Perfect pitch, pure voice, and sounds just as good live as he does in the studio. Please listen to more by them.
Completely agree. One of the best of all time
Come on ... he's aka "The Voice" so you're obviously so so right. But I also become shivers when Steve Smith goes in with the drums. Best part of all times.
Absolutely agree. One of the best.
Sounds better live. Steve. Neil, all of them draw energy from a cheering crowd taking their performances to another level.
I have always said. You don't hear Steve Perry, You feel Steve Perry when he sings. That's why he's called the voice. He's one in million.
You got that right!❤
At my age now genx I gotta say he's one, the others are millions. Its funny how Steve and Whitney are the male and female gave been called "the voice".
You are absolutely right. Went to several of their shows in the day-only concerts I ever cried at, during and when they were over. It was such an emotional experience. None like it.
I couldn’t agree more with you! You feel his voice; you don’t just listen.❤️
you feel Steve Perry!
Steve Perry - the one and only. " Oh Sherrie" is a great one. This is when he went solo. Good ole San Francisco boy!!
I’m with you, never anyone else. Steve Perry is the voice. The one and only.
Dude, NO! You only got half the experience. You have to watch the music video to be able to fully love and appreciate this music masterpiece!
I agree!!
Exactly, you have to see the way he feels the lyrics!
Absolutely agree!
Yes do a 2nd one & use the video. Astonishing Live!
Steve Perry is called the Voice. Won’t listen to any Journey music without Steve. They would never have become famous without him.
I agree wholeheartedly
Absolute, journey isn't journey without Steve Perry. 👌
Albeit Steve Perry's voice is sensational, however, John Farnham of Australia is literally known as The Voice.
@@maryhuhnke4706 Only Steve has that title, John Farnham has a song called the voice.
@@maryhuhnke4706 John Bon Jovi gave Steve Perry that nickname as well and it stuck
Steve Perry was Journey and the group now are just a counterfeit. My Opinion
Just a tribute band after he left.
It's hard to believe that someone hasn't heard of Steve Perry!!!
I’d rank this as the 1st best love song of all time. By far, my favorite rock ballad. 🥰🥰🥰
Hit "Mother, Father" - Journey Live in Houston 1981. You won't be sorry. One of Steve Perry's best vocals ever.
Steve Perry’s voice is one of the very finest. Journey sounds just as spectacular in their videos of live concerts, which is my gold standard. So impressive. You can’t pick a bad song of theirs.
You can’t pick a bad song of theirs….perfectly said!
What girl wouldn't want this song dedicated to her!? ❤️❤️
The music video to this is fire….
PRICELESS
Thank you.
Makes me feel really old when the guy has to look up who the lead singer was because he's never heard of him or Journey.
He will never be replaced! My fav. Singer and band!
Back in the 80's we called them "the voice" instead of Journey lolloll Steve Perry IS THE VOICE!!
Most beautiful line ever is “I get the joy of rediscovering you”. Love Steve Perry, love Journey and wish I had a time machine to go back to those days of my youth.
Belted this whole song right along with Journey. Definitely one of the best love songs of all time imo
Steve Perry is the original singer. He has an amazing voice that can't be replicated by anyone!
Well said Michelle the video is a must see 4 this song I'm with you when he was trying to find "the singer " .
@@ellenjones4523 ☺️
I agree he does need to react to the official music video
Another vote for this... will give you a whole new understanding
Right up there with “Faithfully “ is “Open Arms”
This song is perfect from start to finish. The line "I get the joy of rediscovering you" is just beautiful and so emotional. ❤
This official music video for this song is actually pretty great. It gives a visual story to the lyrics in a way most music videos don't. It definitely adds to the emotion of the song, when watching the video.
The guitar outdo to this is gold. Neal is a legend.

Who's crying now live in Houston! My favorite of all time!
He was an anointed singer. Soooo awesome
The studio version is good, BUT sitting in the arena hearing Steve belt this out live is amazing.
Been there, done that, had the T-shirt. Brendan Byrne arena, East Rutherford, NJ May 1983.
There is a live version from that tour on UA-cam.
Was there too. Oklahoma City 12th row on the floor.
I saw him in Philadelphia at Veterans Stadium. Oh my gosh!!! He was my heart throb still to this day!! I'm so happy there are still fans!!❤❤❤
The one singing is Steve Perry the best journey lead singer & best Rock voice ever, he's known as the voice, need I say more.🎸 They became far more popular due to Steve Perry.
nothing better than seeing you react to some of the best rock bands ever....
They don't call Perry "The Voice" for nothing.
Beautiful song. Hits you in your feels.
Steve perry the Best male voice ever no one cant touch Steve perry voice Steve perry the GOAT

Steve Perry aka The Voice!!!!💜💜🎵🎼🎶🥁🎸🎧🎹🎙🤘🤘🤘
Yep, Steve Perry sang my teens. That is all. LOL
The video for this is pretty epic as well. Gives the best context for the song.
SP IS still THE VOICE. I was lucky to be in my teens 1975--1980 to fall in love with Journey. I'm still forever theirs. Faithfully.
True story! One day someone asked me, who is the only group that you would sleep in line overnight for tickets to see? I said JOURNEY, without a doubt! Yeah you definitely need to watch the video.
Being faithful was and still is the lifeblood of separated/deployed couples, and they took up this song back in the DAY.
Steve Perry was the lead singer in their hey day of the 70's and 80's. They are not the same without him.
Totally agree.
As others have suggested, you need to do Mother Father the live from Houston concert. In fact if you have the time you should do the whole concert to really grasp just how good and hard working these 80’s groups are.
Agreed. Watching the entire Live in Houston 1981 concert is an absolute must!
Yes.

This is one of my favorites along with wheel in the sky
Wow, this brought back memories! My favorite of theirs....love it!
Hello Marilyn,
how're you doing?
Your comments caught my attention
and that is why I am reaching out to you.
Your fan love for me warms my heart, Thank you!
It's nice meeting you here.
Keyboardist Johnathan Cain wrote this. The video is a must see!
In my opinion, Steve Perry, Lou Gramm from Foreigner and Freddie Mercury have the best male voices EVER!
Try Rik Emmet from Triumph live at US FESTIVAL 1983...GREAT VOICE AND GUITAR VIRTUOSO! One of the best live sets ever captured!
Special times. I do miss the those days. I hope you check out all that was given to us back then . Very much worth it. Enjoy
That is beautiful !
When you love a woman off of trial by fire….. one of their best.
Once again…the official video is so moving

The original singer was Steve perry. No one can replace him. They can try...but no one can out sing him
Übertreffen? Nicht mal in die Nähe von Steve kam und kommt auch heut noch kein anderer Sänger 🤔
The official video really drives this one home.
Saw them in 1981 in Indiana. I was hooked. My fav band of all time. You need to listen to Lights on the album Infinity. One of THE best songs ever.
Steve has an AMAZING Voice..
Seen Journey live several times during the 70 s and Early 80 's
Journey owns two of the greatest power ballads of all time... 'Faithfully' and 'Open Arms'. One of my fav from Journey!!! Great reaction!!!
I seen them 4 times between 1979 to 1981 fantastic band Steve Perry has the best vocals ever
Power ballads are rock.
I have not been a Journey fan for quite a few years now, but decided to give this another listen. The tears are flowing...... A fan once again.
I seen Journey in concert twice here in New Orleans with Steve Perry as a lead singer and I was never disappointed
Salvo, I really enjoy your Journey reactions. You are not alone.
Steve Perry, never will be another like him! Magic!!
Can you dig it? Steve had some pipes / great post / Thanks Sal.....
SalvoG when Steve Perry left journey, the band tryed with a lot of lead singers looking for a voice similar to Perry.
Great band and with a lot of love song that can you fell in your heart.
Great reaction thanks again SalvoG
Stone in Love and Separate Ways take turns as my favourite Journey songs....either should be next up.
Stone in Love 🔥
Oh my word I feel old! 😂 Steve Perry is the lead singer!
Hmm.. Journey without Steve Perry just isn't Journey. (In my opinion) He is distinctive enough that he CAN'T be replaced.
You need to watch them live
They are amazing live, I’ve seen them 3 times. Steve sounds just like the albums. Jon Bon Jovi gave him the name “The Voice”
It’s so crazy listening to their songs with Headphones on, the DRUMS are amazing. I never really noticed it real time! Very powerful Ballad!!!
The original video tells the story of being a member of a rock band and on the road 350 days a year. The music video was extremely well done.
What else to say, but just beautiful!!♥️✌
One of my all time favorite songs. Steve just melts your heart with his heart and soul
love STEVE PERRY
If you liked this ballad, you should definitely check out Open Arms.
I can't listen to this song without playing the original video in my mind (the one we're all familiar with, that aired on MTV/VH1).
Great song..His vocals cannot be compared to anyone...Love him live
