Interesting, I've always loved scorpions over spiders, personally. Spider's eyes and face design always freaked me out, especially as a child. But keeping scorpions has made me look at spiders differently and opened my mind. The mexican red knee, despite my arachnophobia, has always been a cool looking animal to me tho!

I want to get one of these types of spiders and have a couple questions. First off your enclosure looks awesome and how often do you clean it or how often should you clean it. Obviously change the water about everyday and clean the bowl but do you clean the other stuff in the tank? And do they need any special type of lighting like uvb it just a regular heat lamp or pad

Would a 30cm cube enclosure be large enough for an adult b.smithi? Or would a 30x30x20 be better? I want to get an adult T and really don’t have much knowledge on cage size.
I can assure you it gets hotter in Mexico. The only thing you need to worry about in England is the cold. If you’re cold, good chance your tarantula is too. They have no issue with temps here. Just make sure the enclosure you use has good airflow so humidity doesn’t rise too high :)

Question, I’m thinking about getting a tarantula one day, and i was curious to how the burrow works. Do u make it yourself or is it already like a pre set up thing u buy? If you make it, how? I still have a lot to learn sorry 😂
Hello! No need to apologise, this is exactly what my channel is here for 😁 So, with the burrow here, we made it ourselves using excavator clay (search it on UA-cam and you’ll see loads of examples of how to use it). We basically used an inflated rubber glove to keep the shape of the burrow whilst we packed the clay around it. Then popped the glove and pulled it out once the clay was dry :)
+Jensen's Reptiles thanks mate it will be much appreciated! Just want to know your thoughts on best care. I.e vivs or terrariums there seems to be conflicting info on the net. Thanks in advance
In my opinion, whatever holds the humidity best for the way you choose to heat. Planted vivariums will have better humidity in general, but there is no reason a terrarium won't do well with regular spraying :)
Hey there, I just purchased my Red Knee, and I'm not really knowledgable. I'm trying to research the best ways to set up her home, do you think it's necessary to have space under or within her substrate to go and burrow into?
Hi there :) for a red knee, you kind of want to make a bit of a burrow for them. They’ll expand it themselves, but they’re a bit crap at starting it themselves. So you can either provide a hiding spot, like a plant pot, or do something similar to what I’ve done, where I created a burrow myself and gave a hiding spot above ground (the skull). Either way, you want to make sure your spider has somewhere to hide :)

Her leg span is only slightly less than the available climbing space. It’s fine.

A 30 cube is ok, but a little small. If you can go 45x30x30 that would be better

Depends on the temperature of your house really!
Unless your house is particularly cold, no.
Could u do a update on ur beardie and his back ground story please? ☺

2. Make sure the substrate is deep with only a tiny bit of climbing room- a fall can really hurt a tarantula.
3. Don’t handle them unless you really need to- it’s stressful for them and again, a fall can kill them
4. Use a shallow water bowl. Never a sponge. They won’t drown, it’s a myth.
5. Keep the substrate DRY. If you never see your T on the ground, it’s too wet.
6. Keep the enclosure on a stable surface so there are no “earthquakes” for your T.
7. Feed an adult every month. They have a slow metabolism. A fat tarantula will die young.
