- I made this video to show that the Rossi 92 can be taken apart quite easily and put back together in a small amount of time without too much fuss,i have had people telling me its taken hours to take apart and put back together so this is just to show that it doesn't have to take long at all and is in fact quite straight forward once you've done it a few times. Please note, this video is for interest only and is not intended as a tutorial.
I changed my Stainless 92 lever to a large loop. It didn't go anything like this take down did. Getting the bolt back in was a sob!!! Did everything right and it still constantly hung up and would not go in. Finally after about an hour it popped in,still do not know why! Also the ejector set up is a total rube goldberg design with that little collar that you have to push behind the small supporting strut, while you are holding onto the bolt with a dummy round? Really? WOuld be better if you had three hands!🤔. OMG, what a nightmare. Unless there is some compelling reason to break this down again. I won't be doing it any time soon!!🤪 However, the video was the only thing that saved me!! Well done and thank you!
Nice teardown. Wow I have not seen a army watch like that for many years.
Thank you for this guide. Without it I was completely lost.
Your welcome, glad you found it helpful, cheers.
I like this guy, no brass/plastic mallet for him... he uses THOR'S HAMMER!!
Thank you! Very clear and accessible.
Thanks vet much for the video. Its the best out there and helped immensely.
I have both the 357 magnum and the 44 magnum 92's my grandfather gave to me. Dude, you just saved me from pulling out my hair, I had no clue where to start. Awesome video.
Thats great, glad it helped, cheers.
I'm impressed, my friend. Thanks!
Excellent video !!!
Thanks.
Just incredible! Utterly Amazing!
Thanks for sharing sir :-)
Thanks again, cheers.
It would be interesting and helpful if you described in a video what modifications you made to the rifle. For instance; did you file anything down, change any spring tension, or adjust the trigger pull?
You just saved me money 💰 I think I got it 😁
You haven't had my bill yet :)
@@myrossirifle took it apart and back together in about 15 min will get better it was my first time thanks again 😎
Does it have to be fully disassembled to reinstall the lever? Or can you reinstall the lever right after taking it out?
Great video. Just discovered your channel and subscribed.
Thanks Ben, glad you like it ,cheers.
First assembly with my new Rossi took 4.3 days
Bless
👍👍
Back at ya, thanks.
I realize that this video is 5 years old, however, my Rossi 92 stopped extracting fired cases yesterday...It's been working fine. I cleaned the daylights out of it,, re-oiled it and it still doesn't work. It seems to only pull the spent casing partway out...where do I start troubleshooting it? Is it the extractor or the ejector? It seems to load the rounds just fine. I hate to order parts I don't need.
It sounds like an extractor problem, the ejector flicks the round out of the rifle but if the fired round is not being pulled fully out of the chamber then it sounds like extractor. If the round was being pulled fully from the chamber but then just laying there and not being flicked out of the rifle I would have said extractor. I know you say you have cleaned it but just double check that the "claw" of the extractor is clear, no gunk or debris behind it which could stop it from contacting the rim of the round properly, cheers and good luck.
@@myrossirifle Thank you.
are you anywhere the midwest?...i need mine worked over and i cant mess with it
Europe, southern England, cheers.
Fico me perguntando se as vendidas no mercado interno tem a mesma qualidade.
Once I put the bolt pin back the lever won't move? Help !!!!!
One of the absolute best demonstrations I’ve ever seen in a UA-cam video.
Clear and concise straight to the point.
Thanks for that,cheers.
Great video. Simple and to the point. We'll share this with our Rossi parts customers. :-)
Thats great, thanks.
Outstanding, straightforward and informational video with no BS. Well done Sir!
New Rossi owner (this week). So glad I did a search. Your video was first to come up. Thank you very much. Cheers from Washington State 🇺🇸
As someone who just inherited one of these, this was extremely helpful. I stared at it for a good 30 minutes trying to figure out where to start unscrewing things and i'd rather not bash my face against a brick wall because I literally took apart the entire firearm just trying to field strip it. You sir earned yourself a sub. I absolutely love shooting this firearm and its even better now that I legitimately know how to take it down.
Thats great, glad it was useful to you, thanks and have fun with your Rossi, cheers.
Wait until you try to rip apart a Kel-Tec Sub 2000, and you get the 2 halves apart and the whole thing explodes in one inglorious "SPROING!!!!" as all the springs lose tension and everything goes flying before you have a chance to see what it looks like...
That action is gravy. I can tell you did a lot of work. The bullets go in so easily like its nothing. Bravo
Thanks for the vidéo
I can change my broken ejector now 😊
Cheers from France
Great video, but I'm guessing your gun is machined better than mine or your just better than me. You breezed through it like a champ... I've owned hundreds of guns over 30 years and I work on all kinds of firearms. My gun is by far the worst gun to work on I've experienced - Putting mine back together is a bitch. Nothing is lining up. Fun gun to shoot, awful to work on.
Yep,i have worked on it, does make it easier, cheers.
Much obliged. I will have to treat myself to a foam mat like your for next time. The wife's Swiss Cheese wasn't up to the job.
Ha Ha, cheers.
Amazing that you can do that so easily. I can change my brakes, rotors, and calipers like that (since my car is 30 years old and I’ve done it several times). Nice video.
I just bought one, thanks for the straightforward tutorial.
Thank you sir!
Excellent tutorial !
CHEERS.
Great video, had to sub because of it.
+Robert Motley Thats great,thanks Robert,cheers.
Thanks for that, ive had a lot of practice stripping it down but just to show that it doesn't have to take a whole day to do ! cheers.
Envious - LOL! All the screws on my rifle were made in South China. I have 30-dollar screwdrivers tearing up every screw/bolt head. You are the Master of the Rossi. I should have bought a rifle that was already put together, and not a project post-sale. '2-300.00 more if not 500 would have saved the time and money on the backend. Make a DVD, of all your DIS/REASSY, and more- sell it on Amazon/eBay. Better than Gunz by far -thx
Success!!! and it only took me about an hour.
Glad it helped, cheers and merry Xmas.
Thank you saved me a bunch of time assembling my rifle
Question: What are the make and model number of the Tang Sights and what is the most appropriate Replacement Sight Posts? Thank you.
I can get to the first reassembly step, ejector spring and collar, but am stuck there. Yours slides right in, no spring tension and the dummy round clicks in, then you push the collar forward to tension it. Mine won’t. The collar won’t clear the stop for insertion and I cannot get the injector in place. Hope you see this and can help, or someone else has overcome this. Thanks.
FYI I am told the removing the Lever Breechbolt Pin voids the warranty from Rossi
That is impressive! Wish you were my neighbor, I'd have you clean mine... I recently purchased a Rossi RH92 in 45colt. Its the 37th gun in my collection, first lever action. lol .
What do I do, the color doesn't want to stay on when I'm putting the lever in
Thank you very much for making this video. I am watching it several times. I have a one of these and some of the edges on some of the components are very sharp. I need to break it down and smooth some of those edges so I stop slicing myself up when I use it. I have some diamond files and 400-600 grit sand paper to touch them up without marring them.
All you need to do to transform this rifle (if it hasn't been done already) is change out the ejector spring for an after market one. Yes those edges are like razors, dont take too much off though, cheers.
Man your trigger assembly slides in and out so easily compared to mine. Great video
+Marqjosh Yep,it does now,had to remove some metal bit at a time until it goes in ok,if you watch the vid "first time strip and reassemble" you will see i had to tap the lower tang out using a piece of wood, thanks for the comment, cheers.
The trigger assembly on mine had to be hammered out. the ears that the bolt goes through was too wide. I filed the outsides of them and now it slides in and out with no problem.
Great video no BS or rambling on!
Thanks for that, cheers.
Amazing!! I'm subscribing!! Hey do u know is all the levers are the same ? I want a large loop for my 357 but the rossi website only sells it for a 45 in stainless, are they interchangeable? Thanks!
You ever figure this out?
Impressive, thank you very helpful
Needed this
Thanks👍
Thanks back.
Great vid ! I just got the M92 and the M92 Rh. I subbed !
Thanks for your Rossi R92 videos.
your welcome,cheers.
This does not Impress me at all because when I was in the Army during Basic Training, We had to take apart our M1 Rifle, then re-assemble it, BLINDFOLDED! Yes we all did this or we would not graduate from basic training! Ha Ha Ha! I do love my Rossi RS22 and I purchased two 25 round magazines and also changed the Stock with the Mag Pull Folding stock! Great Rifle! Yes, I was a Glock Guy all my shooting life and carried a G19 as my duty weapon for many years but now I'm 78 years old and I have become a avid fan of the 22LR Platform and I now have 5, 22LR/22Mag Guns!
Used your video as a guide to disassemble my M92 45 colt for the first time. Thanks for the help...
Did you pull your vehicle off to the side of a busy Highway? There sure are a lot of vehicles whizzing by. LOL But the information is very helpful, thanks.
The burrs and poor machining of mine make it MUCH harder to take apart than that. Also, my extractor cannot hold a dummy round, nor can it eject when firing.
Hello and good evening. I saw that she has a Marple Arms diopter mounted on her Rossi. Can you please tell me how you aim it? Only the diopter on target or does the front sight also play a role? I would be very happy about an answer. Bye Alexander
Line up rear sight and front sight together.
@@treywall3683 Many thanks for the quick response. You mean.....like an airgun. I look through the diopter and put the front sight in the middle, or at the bottom edge? Bye Alexander
Your rounds load pretty easy. Did u do something to the loading gate?
Yep, I reduced the length of the magazine spring and bent the leaf spring of the loading gate back a little, cheers.
Thank you for the video sir I could not have done my spring kit without it ... Your awesome...
your welcome ,cheers.
Great video, thank you. Where did you get the peep hole sight?
Marble Arms peep sight rear and lyman front sight, cheers.
Where'd you get the tang sight..and who makes it???
Marble Arms on line
I very much enjoy your videos. I have a M65 SRC which was made by Rossi but there are no dis/re-ass videos for this particular rifle on YT. I'm hoping it should be the same sans that weird safety thing.
I noticed that in your unboxing video, the loading gate looked like it was blued or had some kind of coating on it. Did you switch it out or did you buff off the coating? Is it even a stainless steel loading gate? Thanks! Great videos!
+jlbjlb26 Hi,i just figured it was going to get scratched up so i polished the blueing off, makes it smooth for loading too,not sure if its stainless but its still fine, thanks for the comments, cheers.
+My Rossi Rifle Maybe try a magnet test and see how magnetic it is? I heard a lot of the newer stainless rifles have been coming with the blued/coated loading gates. Curious to know if its a new thing Rossi is doing to cut costs or something. Aloha!
+jlbjlb26 Yep could do but logic is telling me it is steel otherwise they would have left it un-blued,not to worry though, its fine,no deterioration of the surface and yep it must be a cost cutting exercise its what makes them more affordable i suppose, cheers.
Thanks!!!
have you shaved down your parts to make it more smooth?
Yes I did file and smooth for a better fit, it was really tight, cheers.
Great video, what make/model is your tang sight?
Hi,its a Lyman target front and a Marble Arms "improved" rear sight, there is a vid on my channel showing the exact make/model,cheers.
Great video, would it be the the same procedure for the rossi 92 citadel?
Brilliant !!! The fastest I've seen anyone on youtube do it.
Thank you. I will bookmark this for reference. Best wishes from New Zealand.
Your welcome, thanks for commenting and hello from UK.
Hi Mate, I finally got my 1892 Rossi and put a spring kit in it, and slicked her up inside. The trigger is now much lighter and It cycles beautifully. I then installed a Marble Arms tang sight, I am waiting for the Lyman front sight you suggested. I'll let you know how she shoots once I attach the Lyman front sight. I have a feeling you earned the " Queens Shilling " if so well done. I'm ex R.N. Cheers. Tommy Smith
Thats great Tom,let us know how it shoots when your done, i love the open sights and I can out shoot others with scopes on------not all of them-----think a scope on a lever action spoils the look, cheers.
what ejector spring you dealing with ? i have come close to throwing my 92 out the window because that ejector spring is impossible i finally got it back in one piece again FOR SALE.
Is it still available? I'd buy it for a parts gun.
The only real downside of the gun is the weird way to disassemble it. Thankfully we have people like you to show us the right way.
Excellent job!
Thanks.
Have not seen any posting from Mr Rossi in years, hope all is well with you. Thanks for the videos on the Rossi R92 as they have been a big help in the used one i have picked up. Cheers
yep still kicking, been through a bit the last couple of years, thanks for the comment, cheers.
Fantastic video thanks
please tell me where you got that ejector spring from is it stock? i cannot put my rifle back together because that spring is too strong have shredded brass cases i have gave up dont know what to do with it
Hi Chris, dont despair, that ejector spring in the Rossi is notoriously over powered, buy an after market one,my after market spring set was "Palo verde" I got it from the states, it will transform the rifle for you and won't eject spent rounds into the next county, cheers and dont sell it, get the after market spring set.
What sight is that on the rear?
marble Arms tang sight rear, lyman target front, cheers.
@@myrossirifle Thanks!
What cartrige
.357 mag, cheers.
Thank you Sir. Well done.
Thank you for posting this. I bought a new lever for my Rossi. Is it possible to remove and install a new lever without removing the hammer and trigger assembly?
Hi, you can remove the lever ok BUT in doing so you will release the ejector spring and ejector from its position , you will then have to remove the lower tang and hammer to reinstall the ejector, collar and spring back into its correct position before reinstalling lever, cheers.
@@myrossirifle thank you!
you are a god! thank you!
Great video! Helped me a lot, thanks!
My rifle will not chamber rounds from the elevator lever... Is something wrong with the lever? The extractor piece that catches the bullet to load it??? TIA
Is it a new rifle ? have you taken it apart ? are you using 357 or 38s?
My Rossi Rifle 357.... I loosened the elevation lever a touch and I am back to running rounds. Many thanks!!
Thats great, just be careful you don't lose the 2 screws, they should still be nipped up and not loose, maybe a touch of gun grease on the swivel contact points and see what happens, cheers.
It is a great video, but I need to ask a question about the bolt pin ?
Hi Ben, is it a new rifle ? first time take apart ?
Well done mate! I have just bought one of these today, It should delivered to me within the next fortnight. Do you have any tips for slicking up the action?
Cheers,
Tom
Hi Tom,thanks for the positive comment, if your rifle is new then it will come with a few burrs and some razor sharp edges in the receiver and all moving parts so if you are confident enough, take it apart, file all sharp edges /burrs etc and replace the ejector spring, this one spring is the main offender for tightening up the action and propelling spent rounds into the next county !!Anything else you do IE replace all springs will be a bonus, but if you only do 1 thing, change the ejector spring and see how you Go a tiny smear of grease here and there will help too, welcome to the world of Rossi and just for the record, mine shoots just as well as more expensive rifles, cheers. PS dont take apart unless you have a spent round to reassemble.
Thanks for the reply. The 92 I have bought is second hand and supposedly in mint condition so I figure it's probably never been taken down. I guess I just have to wait and see. It does not have any safety's on it so it must be an older model. I have been reading that the loading gate can be a weak spot ( the gate itself actually breaking off) have you heard of this and is there a fix? I liked your SKS vs steel plate vid. I've had one myself for 3 years now and it's more fun than a barrel of drunk monkeys!!! I'm steadily making my way through your vids. They are great, thanks for your effort.
Cheers, Tom
Thanks again Tom,yep I love the SKS,great rifle, the loading gate has been known to break ,however, ive never had one break, i think the reason could be that to adjust the gate so its softer to push the rounds through you can take it off and carefully bend it, I think some loading gates have been excessively bent by who knows how many different owners and hey presto, metal fatigue, and it breaks, so if it feels ok to load through, leave it alone and hope it hasn't been bent back and forth by previous owners, cheers.
Thanks Matt.
Nicely done
I can't even get past step one, the stock is stuck even after the screw is out. any ideas?
The large screw goes through the upper and lower tang once thats out there is nothing but the fit on the tangs holding it in place,if its a new rifle things can be very tight, try pulling harder, cheers.
yeah it finally slide out.
I oulled and pulled, wacked with a rubber mallet, cycled the action and dropped the hammer a bunch of times and then finally it just was of
Good stuff, your lower tang maybe really tight too if its a new rifle, if it is have a look at my vid "first time strip down" it might help, cheers.
well done! short and to the point!
Cheers.
iv watched a couple of videos on taking these apart now, and for the life me cant seem to replicate taking the lever mech out like you guys do, i cant get it out! you just lever open and pull out, its like im missing a step
make sure you are removing the bolt pin, have a look at my other vids, they are in more detail, cheers.
@@myrossirifle I'm actually a little concerned. That pin you are knocking out, my rifle doesn't have it in there...... I've never taken it apart though so not sure how that could have gone missing, either way, the lever mech still just won't come out. It looks like it glides straight out on yours
@@davidtimothyaddison Hi David,if the pin is not in the rifle then the rifle will not shoot and ejector assembly is free to fall out along with the lever and locking bolts,it must be there ? Have you fired the rifle prior to taking apart ?
@@myrossirifle , iv been shooting it as is for a long time, it's only now that I'm trying to take it apart for a good clean that I noticed that little pin in the side of the rifle you knock out after removing the screw is not actually there. It hasn't had any effect on the rifle so far, I always thought that little hole was there from standard 😒
Hi David, really not sure how that is happening, that pin is crucial ! Are you definitely sure its not there ? If its not then you need to take the gun for repairs, cheers.
very helpful videos! what did you do to get the rounds to load that easy?
Hi,I reduced the length of magazine spring and loading gate leaf spring, cheers.
Sorry, I didn't reduce length of loading gate leaf spring, I bent it slightly to reduce its strength, cheers.
@@myrossirifle show me how my friend.🙏🏽
@@boridebrooklyn8300 OK, when I have time, cheers.
I can’t get the action all the way open after reassembly. Any tips?
Hi, check these 2 things, the little bolt pin is not all the way flush to the side of the bolt or the bolt pin screw is too long, take the screw out and try the rifle, if it cycles its the screw, if its still locked up it will be the pin not all the way flush, the pin HAS to be flush, cheers.
That helped tremendously, thank you. So now I’ve got a new issue for you Rossi rifle Jesus, I can’t get the hammer and trigger to slide in together. The hammer will get pushed too far deep and the trigger will get locked forward, I’ve been trying the way you’ve shown but I’m at a loss. Thanks again
@@nickdalton886 Hi Nick,ok so this one can be a bit tricky, you need to hold the hammer in the "sweet" spot whilst you push the lower tang in, the only thing you could do is a "light" bit of gunsmithing. Push the lower tang assembly into the receiver WITHOUT the hammer, is the lower tang really tight to push in ? If so you can see where it rubs or is tight where the alloy is marked by contact with receiver, you can remove some of this tightness and loosen up the lower tang which in turn will make it much easier to have the hammer in right place, little and often is the key, you dont want a sloppy lower tang, it should still be a snug fit, failing that its keep trying, you do have to hold and guide both hammer and tang otherwise the hammer will get pushed out of position by the tang, there's nothing wrong just keep trying, cheers.
My Rossi Rifle it’s not so much of an issue of it with the lower tang assembly but the trigger won’t allow it to go in together
@@nickdalton886 Hi Nick, keep the trigger depressed all the time you are trying to fit together, I understand about the lower tang but it does make fitting together easier if your not fighting the tight fit of the lower tang as that is what the trigger is attached to, keep trying, cheers.
Thank you so much. My ejector rod flew out when I cycled a round at the range. It was a crazy scene, but I'm going to repair it myself. Thanks for the info!!
Welcome, did you retrieve the spring and collar ?
I tried a very long time to put the slide in. I finally saw if I put the slide in with a dummy Rd before I pushed the coller in to place it was easy. Just use a thin screw driver. Now I can't insert the leaver and locking blocks. I'm sure the locking blocks are on the leaver correctly. I need some suggestions please.
@My Rossi Rifle my original? Nope. I was at an indoor raffle and shells riddled the ground. I called it a loss and I am ordering g a new one soo
@@muskin717 are they on reverse?
beautiful but you really have to memorize the sequence... what happens when you haven't done it for 2 years....
