I've got FOUR Rossi's. Two 357 magnums, (different colors), and two 22LR, (also different colors.) LOVE THEM ALL! I sold my Henry to GET a second 357 Rossi. I like them MUCH better than Henry. My R92s are 20 inch barrels - one is stainless steel, the other is black. The stainless steel has the redish colored wood hand grip and receiver. The black barrel has darker brown wood. I swapped the furniture on both of them to make the colors stand out in more contrast. I thought they both looked great before, now they look even better.

I find that hard to believe. I have had and handled all the great rifles and there’s not a smoother action than a Henry. Sights are retarded big, like 12-36 MOA bead ok the front. But mounting scopes is simple enough and they use the same 3/8 dovetails as everything else so it’s not that big a hang up. Mine is a little heavy compared to my Winchester 94 which also rocks and the bead on the front was causing me 4” 100 meter groups but a scope fixed that too. It’s a top eject so offset mount but it’s a great rifle I would trade it for 3 Rossi’s and enough parts to assemble 4 more. Winchester still makes the 94. Ruger is making the Remlin 336, complete with lawyer safety crap. Henry makes a fine rifle! Other than thinking you’re ahead by paying $100 less than a Henry what could possibly make a person want a low quality knock off?

Yeah the 45 colt doesn't have much recoil, less than a 357 magnum, but if you purchase some +p ammo like buffalo deer grenades, then you will feel some serious recoil, that is some hot shit.

I bought the triple black 357 Dec 2023. It had a canted barrel that Rossi could not fix. So after 4 months of my gun in repair status, they finally shipped me a new gun. This barrel is perfect and so is the gun. I’ve upgraded the springs, lightened the gate and shortened the mag tube spring. It’s very nice. Still a PITA to load. I wish they had made the feed ramp on the left side of the breach\barrel more accepting of rounds. I noticed that’s the point at which my rounds get hung up feeding into the mag tube. Once loaded the gun operates flawlessly.

@@Phryxilyea I may be able to do it myself. What I also realized is when loading, I have to angle the nose of the round upward as I push it in or it can bind down. It doesn’t go straight in. It’s just learning what works best. Also, 38 spl loads a bit easier than the 357.

Got lucky and picked up an unfired Rossi M-92 Stainless octagonal barrel in .44 mag for $800 AUD. first time running it it sent the spent casing at mach jesus out the top but also flung out the new round. took her apart, cleaned it and then every rack it popped the ejector out and into the action, one final disassembly and filed and hammered straight the hook on the bolt that the ejector links into and has not missed a beat since, slapped some skinner sights on that bad boy and she's dead accurate. Feral Goats watch out.

A new gun should not malfunction like that which requires the owner (or a gunsmith) to repair the manufacturing errors. Quality Control must not be high on the manufacturer's priority list. Gives the company a bad reputation.

Thanks for the vid! Enjoy your vids. I have three of these R92's. All blue and in three diff barrel lengths - two carbine, one rifle. I really like em. People just getting started in cowboy action do need to know that the people shooting fast times are all almost exclusively Uberti 1873's chambered in 38 Special and fitted with a 'short stroke' kit which allows super fast cycling. You will have a hard time competing with an R92 as it is just slower to cycle (long throw on the lever). I have replaced all of the stupid flip safeties with buttons or in one case, an aperture sight that fits and mounts in the safety hole. My advice is that if you want this for fun shooting, hunting, self protection, etc. - then the Rossi R92 is an excellent choice.

They really are great. A couple things tho, the corners of the bolt, (at rear when open) are VERY sharp. A little work there makes a huge difference. Also the loading gate is stiff and the edges around the opening can be sharp. Take it apart and clean up those edges. Then take out the loading gate itself and file down about a third of the spring. make it thinner. You'll understand when you get in there. It really makes the gate a lot lighter and they tend to be rather brittle so less risk of breaking compared to tweaking the spring instead. I mayyyy have already commented. I cant remember. :P

I picked up one of the stainless M92 357’s because no one else makes a stainless 357 with a big loop lever a couple years back. I’ve fired multiple hand loads with a variety of bullets I’ve cast from 130-170 gr loaded from mild to top end loads. They are grouping 2” or so at 50 yds and those are not loads I’ve worked up and that is topped with a cheap red dot. The downsides are the stock is a bit of a club, the trigger is a bit heavy and the loading ramp could be slicked up a bit. Other than that, it’s probably the most fun rifle I shoot. Just need to work up some loads to see how accurate it can be and then put the Dillon to work. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one or recommend to a friend

I got a R92 16 inch barreled carbine in .45 LC and mine is incredibly accurate. It is light, handy, and shoots decently everything I feed it, even BP loads. I hate the safety for asthetics reasons but I have found I use it when walking or carrying it loaded. I have 2 issues with it, it doesnt have a sling ring (probably going to be putting one on it soon) and it is finicky about what position it will feed in, whereas my Navy Arms 1873 doesnt have any issues feeding even upside down.

  • @MTLeadSlanger

Man I’ve had three now. First I bought a 45 Colt that wouldn’t cycle factory ammo and had to hand load shorter rounds for it. Then I tried a 357. Had to return the first 357 to Rossi due to an oversized chamber, but it was super smooth. Then the one they sent me had an action that felt like sandpaper, but the chamber was cut better. I will say they were all accurate.
There are good ones and bad ones. It’s worth it to spend a couple hundred more on something of better quality in my opinion.

Heritage Firearms now sells the same '92 Lever Action Series as Rossi. Both are manufactured by CBC Brazil, and imported for sale in the U.S.
I just bought my Heritage '92 16" .357/.38 Spcl in mid October. Signed up for the 'Free Rough Rider' Taurus Promo the same day, & now awaiting shipment of the Rough Rider Revolver. After receiving this '92 Lever Action Rifle, but before getting to the range to shoot it, I had read multiple posts about bulging .357 brass from owners of the Rossi rifle. Fear not, because after 30 rounds of mixed .38 Special and .357 Magnum, both 158 gr rounds, there wasn't a single bulged shell, misfire, or failure of any kind. Shooting at the local range maximum of 100 yards, the sights (set in the second elevation notch) were dead on target, even with my poor eyesight! This turned out to be an extremely well built 92 Winchester reproduction and I feel my money was well spent. I have previously had 2 original 100+ year old Winchester Rifles (40-60 & 32-20) and this Heritage 92 runs the rounds just as well as they ever did, maybe even better! Even though today's inflation puts current prices well above what both originals cost back in the 1980's, I am very pleased with it! I hope everyone else can have the same positive experiences I have had with all 5 of my Heritage firearms, Cheers!

I have the Rossi 92 in .357 Mag. It's the 16" saddle ring carbine in blue finish. I don't like the stainless on a levergun, it just doesn't look right to me. It did need some work smoothing out the internals but that was easy to do. I also cut the magazine spring down and installed a stainless magazine follower so now it holds 9 rounds in the tube and I deleted the silly safety with a plug also easily done. No gunsmith is needed for any of this. Even though I wanted one in .45 Colt, my LGS only carried them in .357 and I kind of talked myself into it. Yes, I cut my finger on the loading port but that's also easy to dull the edges on. If you get one, make sure to use RNFP bullets. They are well worth the little bit of work they need.

The issue with Rossi isn't so much their quality as it is their quality control. Every gun manufacturer has good and bad rifles. I had a .357 Mag Rossi 92 Stainless, and it worked Flawlessly if you fed ammo the correct length through it. It didn't like .38 Special Ammo with Semi-Wad-Cutter bullets, but big deal. But the fact that I had a Rossi 92 in 45 Colt that didn't even make it to the range before have a critical parts failure after taking it apart for cleaning and function testing it, then spending 8 months before they offered me a refund or replacement waiting in parts without giving me any updates, that is what broke me. It is a budget gun, I understand there will be defects or flaws. But when Customer Service is that bad, I will never shop Rossi or Taurus products again. I shouldn't have to be without my gun for longer than I owned it to get a repair

A second could not even be loaded - the loading gate was poorly-made and the magazine spring the wrong size/tension - so it had to be sent back. Rossi didn't repair it properly, so I had a gunsmith do it before selling it. A third worked but only after installation of some after-market parts. That's a one-in-three success rate, and for my money, that's just not good-enough. Also had my hand cut open by a razor-sharp internal part when disassembling one for cleaning. None of the problems were rocket science, with minimal cost/effort, Rossi could be shipping very nice rifles out the door - but evidently, they are too cheap or don't care if quality isn't quite up to the mark. Guess who is buying more Marlin, Henry and other lever-guns these days, and fewer Rossis?

Very bad things? I have yet to hear anything even mildly negative about Henry, other than back before they introduced the side gates people would complain about that. I have experience with two of them in 45-70 and one in 22LR - they are superb. And I have Rossi 92's as well, my gripes with them mostly about customer support, or rather lack thereof. IMHO Rossi should cost under $500, then it's a deal. Otherwise Henry is the sensible choice, IMHO. FWIW, not all remlins were bad, it's not a rule. I have one in 30-30, a stainless one. It's solid (but doesn't like Hornady FTX, aka Leverevolution).

The magazine tube has a straight cut face in the receiver and if you try to push the rounds straight in the edge can catch the mouth of the round and stop. I pulled mine down and just sanded and polished the end of the magazine tube, problem solved. Before that I would load the first cartridge halfway and then push it fully in with the next round leaving that one just outside the gate and so on with the last one being the only round pushed in fully. I believe with the pressure from your thumb offsets the case a little and it catches the sharp edge of the tube, pushing the rounds with a following one relieves the thrust involved and they load smoothly. Figured that out by single loading the rounds fully with my thumb at the top of the rim pushing the tip down as it entered the tube, no problems. After polishing the mouth of the tube and loading gate, no problems ever.

I love mine, but if you ever need customer support, you might just be disappointed. Rossi is not Taurus in terms of actual production quality (and Taurus can also be good, i.e. revolvers), but Rossi certainly is Taurus, one and the same, when it comes to service and support. The higher they get in price, the more you're better off with a Henry. I didn't have to wait for my 45-70 Henry side gate - stumbled upon it in a store on the way to deer camp a couple of years ago. Came with me. And I bought my Henry in 22LR at a rural Walmart a few years back. They are excellent. Rossi carbines are a deal when they are 60% of the price of a similar Henry, not when they're approaching that price. IMHO Henry are the real "sensible man's lever action". The only caveat is that they tend to be Marlin-style action, side ejection, which can be good for mounting scopes for hunting. But if you want a 92-style, then it has to be Rossi.
If you get a 16" or 20" Rossi, check the magazine and see if the magazine spring is still overly long. They used to put springs intended for 24" versions into all of them. Snipping off a few coils would allow full capacity and make loading easier, without sacrificing function. It's a known thing, all over the web. And something like a metal magazine follower is a nice upgrade. Another easy and budget upgrade is a Marble Bullseye rear sight.

Yes, that's right and it indicates an astonishing lack of care for their customers when those improper length springs cause the rifles into which they are installed not to work at all or to work less-well than they would otherwise do. I am amazed that a company capable of building a rifle which is ninety percent there in terms of quality and performance, can't or won't go the final bit to attain a truly great product. Same with improperly finished, sharp or otherwise incomplete parts. It isn't rocket science to fix this stuff, so why are they putting it out the door instead? Buying a Rossi M92 for $250-300 less than the competition is a false economy when you end up having to put at least that much into the rifle to get it to work properly in the first place - and that doesn't even get into the hassles, wasted time and so on.

I like Henry and Marlin, as well as Browning, for lever guns - and of course, Winchester.
Rossis, when they work, shoot very well and they're accurate. The nail in the proverbial coffin for me is how tough they are to take down, reassemble and service. Yeah, it can be done - but the older I get, the less patience I find I have for firearms which are difficult to work on. I have two Rossi 92's. I picked up one NIB at a gun show for $500 before covid, and another one recently that was lightly used in that same ballpark. The fit and finish on the Rossi's don't warrant the current price, also the wood sucks on both guns. The second gun has some pretty shoddy machine work in a a couple spots that I didn't notice until I got it home and cleaned it, they don't really effect functionality, but it shouldn't have went out the door like that. The Henry's are in the same ballpark and are built better, made in USA, and have much nicer wood. I'm not a huge fan of the heft of the Henry's, so I don't own one. The new Ruger Marlins are overpriced as well which is probably why Rossi jacked their prices up. If Rossi cleaned up their machining and imported some nice Turkish walnut, they would be a super nice gun. I don't get how a $200 Turkish shotgun has beautiful wood that you need to drop $1500 to get from any other maker.

Good points and similar experience. My Rossi 92's are from maybe 10 years ago and the wood is plain, but nice, nicer than I'm seeing on them now. But nowhere as nice as my Henry. Nothing feels as handy as a 92-style action, but the advantage of Henry is they're side-ejection and you can mount a proper scope easily for hunting. 92-s mostly lend themselves to iron sights or a red dot. 92 actions will handle some spicy loads in 44 and 45, but so will Henry (do your own due diligence).

If it ain’t American then it’s not worth owning as far as new production rifles go. I do like my Italian Beretta 92FS but it’s more nostalgia than anything else. You are on here trying to claim Rossi is “just as good as” a John Marlin 336, or a Winchester 94, or a Henry Big Boy. Well retailers led by Rossi don’t get that lower quality imports only sell when prices are a big factor. Rossi is probably in some way related to Taurus so it’s crap from the start. If they sold for what they’re really worth I might’ve fallen into that trap too but why pay $800 for a Rossi when a Henry h009 is only $850-$950? Why pay $600 for the Rossi at that point? I didn’t buy them when Remlins were selling for $350 new and they knew their imported place why would I consider buying one for twice what I gave for my Winchester 94?

Just picked one up, and it's got more problems and I can shake a stick at, just got it back from Rossi not only do they not fix any of the problems, but it's in worse shape then when they got.
Barrel with slightly misaligned, instead of actually taking the barrel off and putting it on correctly they just pounded the rear sights over, you know like a terrible gunsmith would have, they said there was nothing wrong with the feeding issue even though the retainer on that holds the cartridges in the feed tube is clearly not lined up correctly.
After all the trouble I went through and I'll have sites and look like special needs Jimmy aligned them, and I'm still going to have to pull parts out and grind them down to refit. Don't know if I just got a bad rifle from them, or this is indicative of the quality they put out, either way I'm never going to find out cuz I will never buy something from that company again.
