First off great video, but I actually just finished replacing my heating element thermostat and moisture senor all by removing just the bottom access cover. There is no need to disassemble the whole dryer. My dryer is a whirlpool duet, once front cover is removed, you now have access to thermostat and thermal cut off, remove these two items, then disconnect two power wires to heating elememt. Now remove two screws holding the heating element housing support bracket in place, now remove the 4 screws that secure the two halves of the heating element housung, the bottom housing is now free and drops down and can be removed, once out you can remove old heating element and instill the new one. While apart of cleaned all the lint and dust out of the bottom of the dryer, installation is just reverse of the removal. Of course follow the normal safety precautions and unplug dryer before doing any maintenance and be sure to lable wires before removal so the are not mixed up during installation. Anyone whith basic handy man skills should be able to handle this repair as long as you have a basic selection of tools
Actually, that depends on the model. I think they improved the design over the years. I watched several videos, all for a variation of a Whirlpool Duet. In those videos the technician or DYIer was able to lift and remove the element housing. On one video it just slid out. And in one, the element slid out. BUT for THIS model, which is what I had (damn the bad luck), this video was a life saver. I was able to follow step-by-step and FIXED my dryer. Just a single mom btw, working an office job. So in this instance, you unfortuately had to get to the area over the element housing in order to remove the top and then replace the element by nestling it into the houseing and inserting the stablizer tabs. As shown. So MAN am I THANKFUL for this well timed, worded, paced and taped video! DRYER FIXED!!! (I'm a rock-star and this man is my new hero!)
I was about to post the exact same thing. Way easier to just take the two screws out and pull it out the front. Just make sure you mark the wires for correct placement when reassembling

Thanks for this video!! I had such a hard time finding a video of my actual dryer. Someone had placed the wrong label on the inside of the door. Every time I viewed a video, it didn't look like my machine. Of course, I had ordered the heating element off those numbers too, so once I got it apart, it wasn't a match. I appreciate these videos so we can DIY these ourselves. I have to say as a side note. I have replaced a few heating elements over the years and this dryer is the worst!!! The next one will have easier access!!!

Got to say, Many Mahalo's for this. Perfect. Step by step instructions. I was very skeptical when I found out I had to take apart the whole machine just to get at the heating element. I recommend you change the thermostat and the thermal fuze as long as you're changing the element. You can buy a kit that has all three parts for 30.00. This job would probably be well over $300.00 if you called a repair guy because it is very labor intensive. Just take your time and make sure you've got the correct parts. Nothing like getting it all back together, turning it on and AHHHHHH hot air. Also, This machine is also a Kenmore HE2 as Whirlpool manufactures Kenmore.

I just replaced mine. It was like this except it was an HE3. I looked at other videos on the HE3 and it looked much easier than this. What I realized was that at some point during manufacturing the HE3 they changed the design slightly. The later HE3s and on are very easy. Just take off the bottom front panel and a couple screws and it slides out. On the HE2 and earlier HE3s it is much more difficult. This video works, but you need plenty of room to work. I did it by removing 4 screws from the bottom front panel, remove the panel, remove the bracket in front of the heating element, remove wires. Easy so far... then wiggle and wiggle the element casing until it comes out. There is just not much wiggle room with the drum in place. The problem is the clip in the back and on top of the casing. That was the hard part. Open the casing and replace the element. Now spend an hour trying to wiggle the back of the casing back in. I did it, but probably spent 3 hours total. If I had to start over, I would pull it out and do it like this video.
This is a great video, but is it really necessary to remove anything but the lower front panel to get to that tube that holds the heating coil? Yesterday, on my Duet dryer, I changed out the coil, thermal fuse and thermostat and only had to drop the front lower to reach the tube, which came out easily after removing its two retaining screws and detaching the wire connectors. Maybe this model is a bit different.

This helped me get the new heating element "package" from Amazon installed for my Kenmore Elite 700 series dryer model 110.68102310. I could not find an exact match for that one but your video was very close to it. The disassembly was the hard part but you made it happen. Dryer working like new now. THANK YOU.

Really great video! Exactly what I needed to help fix my dryer and helped save me several hundred dollars!
If yours is like mine. You dont have to take it all apart. Unplug dryer. The heating element housing, is held on by one screw on the bottom. Remove bottom cover. Then You take out that screw. On the bottom of the bracket thats holds the heating element housing. , and the heating element and housing come straight out. Disconnect wire clips before hand. One screw holds element inside housing. Take it out. Pull the element out, and put new one in. My housing is one piece, it does not come apart. So its a bit different than this one.
I did take the lint trap cover off, and mine was completely packed with lint. I recommend cleaning that all out. It's a miracle we did not have a fire. I just noticed that since my element housing is one piece. I am guessing thats why he had to take his all apart, because of the little tab in the back of the housing. There may not be enough room to lift it up.

Great video! I was able to replace my heating element successfully, although you neglected to mention reconnecting the door sensor harness when putting it all back together.
As others have pointed out, my Duet Sport circa 2007 would not allow you to replace the heating element from the lower front panel access, at least not easily. While this has a lot of steps, it was clearly described & methodical.

This video was recommended to me by your website for my model # WED86HEBW0 (Whirlpool Duet Steam) and my dryer doesn't have that bottom panel that can be removed on the front. My opening to my dryer is also perfectly round and not domed shaped like yours here. So clearly the instructions to reach my heating element are not even close to the same. This is very frustrating.
I labeled the element wires as top and bottom but had the stickers fall off unfortunately. Does the wire from the thermostat attach to the bottom or top connector?

This is way more involved than it needs too be. I just took the bottom cover off, disconnected the wires to the heating element, removed the two 2 screws for the front mounting bracket for element box and just pulled the element box out. Seriously no need to dismantle the entire dryer for this

I have a Whirlpool Duet Steam (model # WED86HEBW0) and it doesn't have that front panel on the bottom to access the heating element. The entire front piece is one solid piece. Furthermore I can't find a single video on how to disassemble it. On their parts website for my specific model, it referenced me to this video on how to replace my dryer heating element but this dryer isn't even close to mine.
Looks like they’re trying to get you to dismantle the dryer so you can never get it back together again (and have to buy another one) 😡

Is it wise to touch the element during your inspection? Oil from your skin can create a hot spot on the element and shorten its life.
What the hell my god YOU DO NOT repeat YOU DO NOT have to take the whole thing apart WTF you only need to take out two out in front then two in side right in front then re move the wires conected to the heater coile five min tops out in. Not all that bull shit my god dont listen to his shit unless you want to take the damm thing apart for no reason...

This is WAAAAAAAAAAAY more complicated that it needs to be to replace the heating coil.
1. Turn off the circuit breaker that powers the dryer.
2. Remove the lower front panel (mine had two 1/4" screws).
3. On the right, remove the lower and middle 1/4" screws that holds on the cover panel.
4. On the left of the coil is the power connector -- pull the upper and lower connection.
5. Remove the 1/4" screw just behind that connector.
6. Slide out defective coil and replace it with new.
7. Reattach the two power supply wires, replace the cover panel over the coils, reattach all screws from steps #2 and #1.
8. Turn on the circuit breaker.
It should take about 30 minutes, given the screws will drop once in a while.
I think you can remove the plate Infront of the heating element allowing you to pull forward.
PartSelect, why did you take the whole dryer apart when you can remove 2 screws and one panel and immediately extract the heater element as was done in another video? See "Whirlpool Dryer Repair - No Heat Replace Heating Element 3387747" by Carve Tools. I used his method to replace my heating element today, and it saved me from removing and reinstalling a whole host of parts that your video recommends removing, including the lid, the electrical harness behind the lower access panel, the black wiring clip behind the front access panel, the lint filter screws, the control panel, the control panel wiring harness, the front door panel, the sensor harness, the air inlet screws, the front drum assembly, the belt, the front top "cross piece," the drum, etc. etc. Although the housing for heating element 8544751 is slightly different than that of the one for 3387747, and must thus be unscrewed after removal in order to swap out the heating element, the bracket that secures the heating element housing to the front of the dryer and the spring clip that secures it to the back of the dryer are designed the same as the ones for 3387747, so there seems to be no reason at all why one should take apart the entire dryer to replace the heating assembly for the model you're working on. The best metaphor I can compare your method to would be to remove the belts, alternator, air pump, and oil pump in a car in order to swap out the battery. Removing all that stuff seems to be irrelevant and unnecessary.
He took it all apart because on this model the element is held in by 4 screws that are otherwise unreachable. The model in the video you reference does not have the 4 screws to hold it in place.
I got to those hard to reach screws without total tear down. Just have to know what you are doing. Being my element goes out once a year in my whirlpool duet,,it takes maybe 30 minutes to change itm

I have this model and it actually made it much faster and EASIER in the long run. I had to replace both the coil and fuze. Plus it made the dryer much easier to move, because the previous owners didn't set up the duct correctly. I adjusted the dryer and duct to where it really needed to be before reassembly.

Nuts... !!!!! look for the many other videos on replacing Whirlpool Duet heater unit coil. Essentially front lower panel, two screws on front of element housing, disconnect wires and pull out to replace....reverse once replaced. This is good for complete disassembly, but just the elements??? You’re crazy just for the element.
Here is the real way to replace the heater element in the Duet. Remove 2 screws from bottom front, remove panel. Remove front support holding element casement, 2 screws. Take pictures of wiring along element. Remove terminal lugs from electrical. Rotate heater casement Clockwise and twist and remove. Replace element. Reinstall in reverse order. DO NOT REMOVE FRONT UPPER, DRUM or anything else. That was done to assist viewer but is not necessary provided you can lay on your stomach and perform the repair.
As a lady too much work, I'll call repair man. Considered fixing myself.
I replaced the heater element, the fuse, the high limit cut off, the thermistor and the fuse, and still no heat!!!! That was $100 I could have applied to a new dryer.
On mine all I had to do is remove the lower cover, remove the wires, and then remove one screw that holds the element assembly and the whole thing just slides out. No need for all that other nonsense.
All this just to replace the heating element? No Way !

It is absolutely NOT necessary to remove the drum. Remove the lower front panel (4 screws) and the 1 screw holding down the foot of the heater can. The can will slide out the front. Clip on top rear of can will fall out. You will need to disconnect some wires to get enough slack to pull can out front - make a drawing or take a photo of the wires. Then, remove 4 screws on top of can and top screw of each of two attachments. Top of can comes off easily. Lift out heater and drop in new heater. Replace top of can. To replace heater can, it must plug back into vertical duct with clip at top. You may need to remove the rear of the dryer and the vertical heater duct to help plug the heater can back into the vertical heater duct. (slide the can to rear to help hook it to the vertical duct with clip at top of can, curved part of clip hooked inside vertical duct)

FWIW - I was able to replace the heating element without removing the drum. Remove the bottom front panel, then remove the bracket blocking the front of the heating element. From there you can access the heating element directly. It's tight, but doable. My model does differ ever so slightly in that the heating element housing (dryer heater box) is one solid piece, meaning the top does not remove. The heating element slides in instead and is secured by the guide rails and one screw on the side.
This is a ridiculous way to affect the replacement of the heating element. Unplug the unit, remove the bottom fascia piece (four screws) label the six connecting wires to the electronic components for reassembly and slide the element housing out from the machine. Don't touch the new coil or you'll create a "hot spot". Replace the components on the side if you ordered a complete kit and replace the heating element, then reassemble. The entire repair shouldn't take more than an hour.
What in sweet Baby jesus' name. THIS IS NOT AN EASY TASK! There is a video where you only take 2 screes out and shazaam...the thing gets changed. I think this may have been a joke. I think he was ralongthis apart to sell for metal scrap I just don't know but this is not what you do!
Rhianna williams Be sure you are comparing apples to apples. There are many newer models where you only need to remove the front panel. But the model he has (same one as mine) the heating element enclosure has four screws holding the casing and the heating element in place and you can ONLY access them by removing the drum. I am sure that after receiving many complaints from service technicians and handy DIY-ers Whirlpool redesigned the casing to make the element easier to replace. But for the unfortunate few of us who bought this model, we are screwed!

This is madness to replace a heating element. It was a simple 20 minute task… unscrew the back, disconnect heating element and re-install. Absolutely ridiculous!

Take pictures of wires and mark them with tape, take screws out of element housing, pull wires loose and pull Element Housing straight out. You may have to wiggle housing some. DO NOT TAKE DRYER COMPLETELY APART!!! This guy is over killing a simple job!!!!
Are you kidding me you took the dryer apart just to change the element all you have to do is remove the bottom panel remove one screw disconnect AC wires and the heating element pulls out replace the element slide it back in hook the wires up. I could change out 15 of them while you're trying to change one. You need to Google how to do it before you try to show someone else

In this case, Steve felt it was easiest to remove the drum so that he could access the heating element more effectively. With this sort of repair video, it is also helpful to show people the process so that he's not constantly digging into a place where the camera can't get! If you can replace the heating element without disassembling the dryer, and that's easiest for you, then that's fantastic!

This looks like the guy removing the engine on a car to change a flat tire. Way to overcomplicate things so people think they have to hire you.
