2005 Scion tC Ventilation Blower Motor Fan Noise Repair

  • This video shows how to remove the blower motor and fan assembly for the ventilation system on a 2005 Scion tC. It's located behind the glove box.
    This will help you if you need to replace the blower motor and/or fan or just clean debris out if it. In my case I only needed to clean debris out of it to fix the noise it was making.
    This likely applies to all Scion's and other makes and models in general, however the process of removing the unit in other models likely varies.
    How to change your cabin air filter on the tC or add one if it doesn't have one is also discussed.

    Ok this also goes for all tcs, the screws he speaks about have a hex shape which are 9mm, use a wratchet and some pb blaster and voila the screws come out easy and you should be able to pull down the blower. Takes about 5 minutes but i tell you put your seat all the way down or remove the door to get clearance.

    Very helpful man , you're awesome and because of you my friend i thank you I went inside the glove box as you described and I accidentally hit the blower fan try ing to put the glove box back in and all of a sudden my air came back on , whewwww what a relief .. louisiana has Soo many bad roads I bet a big bump o hit cost my blower fan to do that

    Thank you, thank you, thank you! You made this easy for me to remove the motor, which was not running at all on my sons' 2008 Scion TC. . I brought to my work bench and it ran fine (drew 2.0 Amps at about 7 Volts, low speed). Put it back in the car and it worked at all speeds.! Go figure....
    PS: My car had the air filter and it had a lot of leaves and dirt on it...... but not enough to stop the motor (I think).

    Took me all of 10 minutes to fix the issue. Didn't even have to remove the blower, I was able to reach my hand in and remove the debris. I have a 2012 scion xd, if that makes a difference. I will be getting a filter as well.

    Thanks for the video, you explained it pretty well. Unfortunately, I took the blower out but couldn't find any debris and the sound is still there. Should I try disassembling the whole thing or buy a new one for $33? Thanks

    Excellent tutorial! :) Not as exciting as my discovery in the squirrel cage/ fan however. I had a large, stinking mouse. Was hoping to discover how to remove the fan/cage from the motor. :( Will try the recommendation from the mechanic with the Ford motor. His had a retaining clip & mine doesn't tho.

    yeah, this helped me a lot to take everything apart. However, the clicking noise isnt cause of acorns. nothing in the fan, just the clicking. I put a video of it in my channel. thanks

      Watched your video. Sorry it wasn't something obvious like mine. Maybe the debris is very small and embedded in there. Not sure if everything can be disassembled and cleaned? Worth trying before replacing.

      +cjant101 I tried to take the fan/motor apart but it's not budging. I managed to find a replacement part for 40 dollars (free shipping) so I just went for it. Thanks again for the vid, way easier than trying to follow written text on how to disassemble the hvac system.

  • @amberjepsen8139

    mine makes the same noise but even when the fan issnt on do u think thats the problem

    • @cjant101
      @cjant101  8 років тому

      I listened to your video and there is a lot of noise going on so it is tough to tell. I do hear a noise among the noises that sounds similar to the blower noise though. If you think it is off, I would just make sure it is not on defrost mode which forces the A/C on in the background even if it doesn't look like the fan is on from what I remember.
