  • It's been a while since I posted a video. In this video (shot in late January), I do some recommended troubleshooting of the electrical problem of the bus not showing any power at the front dash or modules. Hopefully I will get this figured out soon, as I'm not giving up! Thanks for watching.

I have a 2006 MCI, had the same problem. All of a sudden bus would not start. Could not figure why. It was a crucial wire that goes from the front to the back, its in the top luggage area. We accidentally cut it, as soon as we put it back, bus started right up. So glad we hadn’t made our weekly dump run yet. Good luck. 👍

Yep. I believe I have the same problem. I just spoke with a guy willing to work on it last week. He came highly recommended. It sounds like he knows what he's doing.

Glennman, have you plugged the modules back into the luggage compartment? Did you make sure you put the correct module to the correct wires? You're correct, DO NOT get discouraged. You can run the bus with out any of the modules.
Send power to the ABS, transmission and engine ECM and that's all you need. The dash gauges may wire directly to it. You would have to re-wire the marker lights, signals, low air circuits, etc. There is a wire in the parcel rack that will send a signal to the engine to cut the throttle.
You can also google the DDEC 4 wiring harness, and manually snip the interlock wire. There are interlocks that lead to the transmission too, which get a signal from the modules(positive or negative) not do do something. The transmission doesn't know if a door is open, or if your foot is on the brake. All it sees, is there is an input sending a positive or negative signal, NOT to allow a certain function(shift, throttle, go into gear, etc.).
Do you have any wiring diagrams? I have some schematics for a 2003 that may be able to assist.

B- This is the best information I have received to date. I have a friend that has family that is into diesels (removing engines, modifying them, etc.) One works at a Peterbuilt outfit, and does a lot of work in the side. He is supposed to be getting back to me this week. To answer your questions, the modules are connected correctly, as those wires were never cut or modified. The wiring schematics are available online, but they are like learning a new language. I've always thought that there would be a way to run the bus without the modules, get rid of the interlocks and modules, then rewire the other circuits you mentioned (just like an older bus system). I'll be looking into this bypassing you mention, as it cannot be that difficult. The same engine and transmission is in trucks that are not anywhere near the complicated mess this is. Thanks for your help, this is very good information.

I’m betting it has something to do with a crucial wiring that you may have overlooked during the overhead parcel demolition. I’m told there’s crucial wiring running from the front multiplex junction to the rear junction box, and that if it’s ever cut the bus will not start. But Mr Glenn at any rate I’m praying for the your bus to start back running stronger than it ever had yet.

I'm not a mechanic but I still have friends who work on MCI fleets and I drove them daily including that model. For what it's worth *everything* including the wheelchair lift, the WCL door, everything is tied into the coach multiplex system. It's Jenga. Disconnect or cut the wrong wire and it's dominoes. I hope you can get the skilled help you need that is familiar with the coach multiplex.

I have an MCI bus D4005 we left lights on, the batteries drained so we charged them up. The batteries heated up and caused the fire suppression to release powder in back of motor. Bought new batteries and doesn’t want to start. We need help!

If you could get a certified MCI mechanic to come out with he's diagnostic equipment he should be able to run it down fairly quick they aren't cheap but worth the money when you have a coach as new as yours with all the modules and triple redundancy you have in that model it could be anything it's a sad day when she would start I've been there and mine is way older than that one I have an 84 MC9 what year is your other coach in the shop? Sorry to hear about your issue you'll get it figured out and hopefully it won't be long before she's running.

    • @glennman9890

Yep. I removed the entire wheelchair lift, and drove the bus around afterwords. After that I removed the upper storage bays, including the wiring in them. However, I did not cut the network cables at any time. After that, I was able to start the bus, but it wouldn't drive. Then, one day it wouldn't do ANYTHING. No lights, flashers, dash indicators, nothing. Ever since, I have been trying to just get it to run, or do anything. So far, nothing.

@@glennman9890 weird that it won't run after it did before it sounds like a circuit breaker maybe in the back because if you didn't cut anything and the circuit is still complete there is no reason for it to not run check the wheelchair lift wiring again see if something looks different maybe something came lose a door switch would definitely not allow the coach to move or even start in that area.
