    Just subscribed to your channel. Remember doing the trick with the socket and extension some years ago when I use to work at Izzy's Auto. You said 1 ounce of oil was drained from the old compressor and the new compressor came charged with the proper amount. Would not the system now be overcharged with oil. Thanks for the video's, as they may help keeping my car on the road.

      How to Automotive I am searching for some quick references that I can understand for a replacement of my Scion tC 2007 A/C evaporator core (from a Customer/Consumer perspective). Even though your video shows the process for the Compressor, I really learned a lot on some of the setup of my Scion's A/C unit.

    Hi thanks for the video. I have a 2005 Scion tC, manual. not sure how much does a new compressor costs. I see BuyAutoParts 60-01964NA NEW is $195 where Denso 471-1048 New is $323 do you know what is the difference and which is better?

    Hey there, out of curiosity, my SCION IQ's AC when turned on to 1 and 2 stopped working... But with 3 and 4.. it would fine... Do you think it could possibly related to this?

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  7 років тому +3

      Bryan Agoncillo no that's gonna be the blower motor resistor. It'll be under the glove box. That controls the fan speeds.

    A couple days ago I smelled like burning rubber from my engine which would come and go as I drove, and I continued to drive I heard a weird grinding noise from my engine, which I only heard for a second or so. The next day my ac was very warm and didnt seem to be getting colder and the smell and noises continued. I turned my ac off and I didnt hear nor smell anything. Any idea what this could be? I checked the belts and they seemed to be working ok.

    you didnt say what size the 4 bolts holding the compressor are. i heard 19 mm for the tension pully and 10 mm for the hose bolts.

      Jeff Estep bolts for the compressor are 12 mm

    How much would you ask for if a 07 Scion tC with 179k miles listed for 3,700 has this ac recharge problem. I’m thinking 2,700 plus it has a front side left fender bump.

      I bought an '08 tc w 145K, stick, blue w the OEM rear wing, for $2,800, last year. All it needed to pass inspection was new wipers, and some parts cleaned up! Had the AC recharged for another $80. You shouldn't pay more than $1,200 for the '07 tc w 179K miles. The compressor repair will be at least another $300-500 total, which should also be considered.

    The engine light is on and the ac stopped working to, do you think it would have anything to do with the compressor ?

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  3 роки тому +2

      No you most likely have two separate problems

    What about all of the freon? When you remove the hoses, doesn't it all come out? And then wouldn't moisture get into the system? I haven't done this before, so please excuse my ignorance of the specifics

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  5 років тому +1

      You have to have it evacuated. Then after you finish assembling everything you put it under a vacuum for at least 20 minutes and that will boil moisture out of the system.

    • @hitmanbluesband
      @hitmanbluesband 5 років тому +1

      @@HowtoAutomotive So I would take it to a place that would remove the freon, then get one of those vacuum units for a/c I see on Amazon, hook it up for twenty minutes, then refill the system with freon. Is that all correct?

    Do you have to watch the belt and make sure it doesn't move so it won't screw up timing

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  7 років тому

      julian supernor your Scion has a timing chain and the belt has nothing to do with engine timing.

    • @juliansupernor3841
      @juliansupernor3841 7 років тому

      It's an overhead cam I should have a timing belt too is it not?

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  7 років тому +1

      julian supernor your engine is a 2.4 L and it definitely has a timing chain. Here is a video of what the timing chain looks like on the same engine different car though.ua-cam.com/video/XlDIrrgkrIc/v-deo.html

    How long you have to vacuum pump the AC Compressor? 30 mins or 45 mins? Some people say 45mins and some say 30mins? Which one is the correct way to do it? Because I have to buy a new AC Compressor again because I received a loud popping and then it leak out all of my freon and my oil from the release valve? Why is that? Did I do something wrong here after I charge my R134A into the car after done vaccuum pump for 45mins and then charge it up. Let me know ASAP. @How to Automotive

    Would've liked to have seen you actually DO the work of vacuuming the extra "freon" out, removing the old one, and installing the new one, then placing the belt back on. I'm sure there are all sorts of issues which needed to be shown due to how tight the space is. Sooo, Thumbs Down from us.
