Epic Scratchbuilt Interstellar Spaceship - Kitbash Model USS Pathfinder RV-01

- Hello fellow cosmic hobbyists. I wanted to share an exciting scratch built spaceship scale model I recently made. This ship, called the Pathfinder is made from styrene and various bits from kids toys, barbeque dip cups, plastic tubing a spice container lid and many other objects. This is constructed in N-scale (using 1/160th scale). In my imaginary interstellar exploration world, this ship was built, by an international consortium, because one of the great Earth orbiting telescopes found that one of the planets orbiting the nearby star, Proxima Centauri, has evidence of hydrocarbons in its atmosphere. It was decided that this might be a sign of intelligent life. This discovery coincided with new technologies that were created by a aerospace company called CQH aerospace. These technologies include a new drive system that can warp space and time. This will allow this vessel to get to these planets in weeks, as opposed to many years. Come along as this ship model gets constructed and begins the story of the exploration of our galaxy! Who knows what exciting discoveries will occur
along the way.

If you had the opportunity to take a voyage on this vessel, what kind of crewmember would you want to be? Would you be the captain, executive officer, engineer, a member of the maintenance team, scientist or food service? And most importantly... Should dogs be allowed on the ship 🙂?
I would love working on the
Propulsion system, I was a
GM Dealership Master Mechanic for 10 years before I
became a Trucker, a Warp Drive Engine would be to quote
Mr Spock " Fascinating"!!!!!!!
@@conrailfan6277 I could see that! My father is a retired mechanic and the bug to work on stuff has traveled through both my brother and I. I could totally see the enjoyment of working on something like a warp drive would be exciting!! It would definitely be kind of surreal.
Of Course dogs should be allowed on the ship, with their own dog run on the arboretum level. Great ice-breaker at first contact.
@@mattarch3000 I agree. Gotta take the doggos with us huh?!
I'm in awe of the insane amount of detail on this beast, not to mention the fact that almost all of it was made by hand! Seeing it come together was fascinating and really gratifying. Thanks for sharing this with us, looking forward to seeing your other creations!
Thank you very much for your kind words!! I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😊.
What a beautyfull ship!🏆
Thank you very much. I appreciate you watching the video and hope you enjoyed it!! 🙂
Thanks for sharing. What a great build.
Thank you for the kind words!! It was a blast to make🙂 I appreciate you watching!
Got this video recommended. Really good man, can't wait for the next one :)
Thank you so much!! I'm super glad you liked it 🙂
Amazing job!!!!!
Thank you Marcelo!!🙂
Awesome! I love scratch builds! Heavy detail!
Thank you Dennis!!
GREAT JOB!! Since you are working in N scale can suggest a good source of greeblies is model railroad parts. Especially the brake kits in HO scale by Cannon & Co . They have small tanks and small box like clusters for hardware. Also fairly inexpensive around $ 4 dollars a pack. I got this idea from the late Greg Jein he used a lot of this on his filming miniature of the mothership from Close Encounters.
Thank you!! That is great information. The majority of my ships will be N scale so I will definitely look for those parts. Thank you again!!
Very nice build, Well done!
Thank you!!
At the beginning of the video, I thought boy his work mat sure looks nice. No smears from spilled glue like mine!………..dooooooooooough!
Lol, I hear ya. I almost wanted to cry after that happened, lol. But at least the mat looks "lived in" now! Thank you for watching!!
You can tell this guy ain't fooling around by what he uses for paperweights.
Don't want anything blowing around anywhere 😉. Thank you so much for watching!!
Awesome work from start to finish. Old school sci-fi look at its best. Instant sub.
Thank you rosumparat!! I was definitely thinking of the older shows like Battlestar Galactica when I made this vessel! Thank you for watching🙂
Really incredible build and video!!!
Love the backstory and descriptions of the details.
Looking forward to seeing your next creation 😊
Thank you so much! And thank you for checking out the video 🙂
@@CosmicQuestHobbies you are very welcome 🤗
Looks amazing. Brilliant job
Thank you so much!!
Great build, fun to watch.
Thank you so much!! I am glad you enjoyed it and thank you for watching 😊
Ty for inspiring. I mostly use supper sculpty clay for my creations and add led lights to them to bring them to life. I’m gonna have try styrene now. Nice job.
Thank you for your kind words! I don't have the sculpting ability to use clay :) I am amazed at some of the things I see made out of clay for sure. Thank you so much for watching. I appreciate it!!
Very impressive. Great attention to detail. You should be proud.
Thank you Robgumby!! I appreciate your kind words and thank you for watching🙂
Instantly subscribed! This video was fantastic. I really enjoyed your commentary!

Thank you!!
Awesome Bro! quite the imagination there!!
Thanks!! I'm glad you enjoyed it 🙂 hopefully you could imagine it right along with me!
If it was a drop ship I'm in, brilliant mate, subbed
😉👌
Thank you the-primered-thumb! I might have to make a drop ship in the future :) Thank you for watching!!
Great build, i love the attention to detail...you have given me the inspiration to start another build project..
That's awesome Malck. Do you have any builds in mind? Thank you for watching!!
Adam Savage would love your build! Great work, really enjoyed watching your build process. Look forward to your future projects. Best wishes from Scotland.
Thank you Gavinstirling!! That is very nice of you to say🙂 I look forward to showing my future builds to everyone. Thank you for watching!
Great work.
Thank you rburns!!
I love this! You have a great narration style and I really enjoyed the lore building while you worked. I really hope this channel does well and am looking forward to seeing the next ship!
Thank you Nathan!! If all goes well, the next "vessel" will be out in a couple weeks. I truly appreciate you watching 🙂
Super cool! Let me know when you need a contractor for the larger parts. I know a guy
I'll give you a call when I need to pick up some flux capacitors!!
I think this may be the most amazing and awe inspiring thing I’ve seen made on UA-cam. Apart from a few greeblies it’s all your own work. Amazing!!! Got yourself a new subscriber ❤👍🏻
Thank you for the kind words Lee!! I am super glad you enjoyed it 🙂
WOW, you did an awesome job building this and the attention to detail is great. I really can't wait to see your next project. Keep up the amazing work.
Thank you so much for your kind words!! I can't wait to share my builds coming up 🙂
@@CosmicQuestHobbies You are very welcome :)
That was really great work. I learned quite a bit Thank you, sir!
Thank you for the kind words!!
RV-01? Does it reach Plaid speed?
😅 Not sure if the crew of the ship would even dare to try and go that fast!!
Just wow!
Thank you. I am glad you enjoyed it!!
So excited to see where this worldbuilding project goes.
Thank you Jacoblucas! I am having a fun time creating the world and thinking of the future models and dioramas to make to fill in the story! Thank you so much for watching :)
Excellent!
Thank you Dr. Mortose!!
Really enjoyed this build. I like how you gave the ship a backstory and shared your reasons behind the design of the ship. Looks like you may have a winning formula here given how many people commented. Subscribed!
Thank you for the kind words 🙂 I am super glad you enjoyed it. I have fun coming up with the story behind the build!! Thank you so much for watching and subscribing!
"Poppa, have you seen my toy truck." 😮💨 Awesome build man - truely epic too! And I thought I was the only one who collected those "tabs" from the tops of Mcdonald's tops. Really enjoyed the tips and tricks. Thank you for the video. Looking forward to more from CQA.
Thank you!! The truck has gone to the higher calling of exploring the galaxy 😉, lol. I love those little tabs!! Thank you for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
you deserve more subs than you have!! this is a beautiful professional quality model and the video was really well edited. Subbed and cant wait to see what you come up with next!
Thank you! That is very kind of of you to say🙂 I truly appreciate you watching my video!!
That's a very cool build!!! Back
in the day That's how Star Wars, Space 1999 and Star Trek came up with ships, they
would dump hot rod kits, model ships and others into a
pile on a table and build some
random ship, 3D printing sure
helps too!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you for the kind words. I definitely got some inspiration from movies, and shows, like that. I love the way those ships and creations look and how they built them. My wife and I like to go to the estate sales or thrift shops with the hope I'll find some old model kits or other bits like that. Thank you so much for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
@CosmicQuestHobbies You are
welcome, I'm a model railroader
but I love building WW2 fighters
and the occasional space 1999
Eagle now and then plus I watch
Lou Dalmaso, Oggie at Interstellar
Modeler and Boyd at Trek Works!!
I'm now subbed to your channel too,
keep up the great builds!!!
@@conrailfan6277 Good stuff!!
Very cool
Thank you Jeffturnbull!!
Wow I really enjoyed this!
Thank you so much!! I appreciate you watching 😊
7:37 Upsss. I know this. 😂😂😂
Lol. That one hurt. It was basically a brand new mat also. Thanks for watching!!
looks good
Thank you Hugo!!
I was thinking about the bridge windows and all the windows.......... gold foil or gold gilding sheets? Now I realize how much a pain in the aft torpedo tube that maybe to pull off. never mind! Great video!
I had someone else recommend the gold foil. It's kind of funny but I had a bunch of Rolo wrappers that I've been saving for a model and never even thought to use it on the ship, lol. I may still give it a try though 🙂 Thank you for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
perfekt Modell amazing
Thank you!!
Wow.
Thank you Fran!!
subd.... just watched your latest one on the planet surface... this is so good.
Awesome!! Thank you for watching and I am glad you enjoyed it 😊
@@CosmicQuestHobbies the little story to go along with it was a nice touch..
Also can I recommend checking out Sublight Drive website. He does a lot of scratchbuildiing spaceships you can get some good ideas from his techniques.
Will do! Thanks for the tip🙂
Awesome build, looking forward to more from this universe! A possible idea, you know how on the apollo lander base and a lot of other spacecraft from the era (and even some today) had a foil wrap around certain components? Your windows being copper coated made me think of that, and wonder if you could use real copper, brass and aluminium foil and or leaf to achieve the same effect. Might be worth a few practice pieces to experiment with before using on and actual build as it might be tricky to work with.
That's a great idea on the foil! Funny thing is that I've been saving foil from things like Rolo candy and didn't even think to use that, lol. Might have to try that idea on the next build 🙂 Thank you NiteReepa, and thank you for watching the build!!
This is very inspirational. I've been looking at getting into prop building or something similar. I don't have the ability to set up a dedicated workspace with tools and everything. But some small scale spaceships cut from styrene could be done. This looks great!
Thank you so much!! I totally agree that this is a nice way to get into building things like that. I have found that it is a great way to calm the mind as well :) Thank you for watching and commenting!!
That is a pretty good space ship model, an excellent job, of course it would have been a little bit better if you had added some lighting to it but it still looks very good nonetheless
Hey John! Thanks for watching!! I totally agree that lights would bring this ship to the next level. That's definitely in the works for a future build 🙂
Would have been cool to have lighting for the labs and bridge
Agreed!! I know I do plan on lighting up some future models for sure :) Thank you for watching!!
@@CosmicQuestHobbies I'm the kind of modeler that will build a full area extremely detailed knowing it will never be seen. lol
How come you don't have like thousands of suscribers?
Thank you! That is super kind of you to say 🙂 Maybe someday. Thank you for watching the video. I am super glad you enjoyed it!!
Just finding your channel! Nice work! What is that little nibbler tool you are using to put those insets into the styrene?
Thank you!! It is a hand nibbler. I just did a quick search for "hand nibbler" on Amazon. It looks like a bunch of similar ones popped up. Pretty reasonable prices.. $15-20.
