In this video I would like to show how I have built, painted and customized the Aliens Drop Ship model kit from Halcyon.
Each person might have a preference but I like to add details, paint and weather a little differently🙂

Nice 👍.......really liked the weathering job.......front missile pods should not be above the deck but otherwise looks sweet......would love to see this lit and in a diaroma.......

Understandable! That's why for these kind of vintage kits I usually have two...one to build and one for keep😁
Same. I have the 1979 MPC ALIEN model figure kit (bilingual text on the box, from Canada). Not a reissue - and still factory sealed in its original shrink wrap.
The kit itself is a mediocre sculpt (bought and built the 1999 reissue); but I love the (original '79) box art so much! I'll NEVER open it!
Great weathering and the little details add a touch of depth to this simple kit.

It was indeed kind of hard to work on compared to the other kits but this model is really cool so I'm glad I endured till the end😁
@@modeler5 , I made my version years ago , and had the patience to sand all the lines , enlarge the cockpit in 1 cm , and add full details inside it.
It was damaged when I moved to the new house and now I need to repaint and find new decals . 😬
But it was indeed a fun project , and I am glad I saw your paint techniques.
I'd love to have this kit again, nice work on the build, looks great.

I remember seeing these Halcyon model kits at a hobby store in 1991/ 92.
I had the vinyl Alien ("Big Chap") figure, the ALIENS Warrior with egg and base, and the Narcissus EV.
I did also see the Nostromo, at the same store, but it was far too expensive for me to buy at the time (around $235.00 AUD from memory).

I actually have all those as well including the Nostromo. But I don't think it was that expensive, maybe around 10,000 yen. It was a few years back so don't know about the price now since everything has gone up these days...so glad I got it when it was still affordable😁
@@modeler5 Also had the life-sized Halcyon vinyl Face Hugger kit. It was supposed to be from ALIEN but the sculpt looked more like the ones seen in ALIENS.

The instructions was a bit hard to understand because there weren't much details and I kind of wondered if I was doing everything right or not 😅 - I guess that was the main issue for me and that caused a lot of delays so took longer than usual for me to finish it.

I HAVE that model...worked on it for a while, Trying....to make all the wings "flip-out" and actually stay in position ( I even had a way to keep the lower ones in place with a small metal support that would slide out. "Tricked-out" the cockpit with an Apache cockpit ( THAT came out quite nice) and I Think...I used the windscreen from that Apache on that 'Drop Ship'. Even had the loading door lowered and retract back in WITH An Interior!!
BUT, when it got to the landing gear, got the Main gear ~Slightly operational ( I still needed some more coaxing to make it all articulate ). But the Tail Gear was nearly impossible to retract....and I'm a pretty imaginative modeler, but I gave up on it.......
I Think I still have it in its box....I have to look for it..
I Did enjoy YOUR Build!! GREAT Job on that mesh idea and reproducing the long rockets!
That Idea of using 'hair spray technique' ....... I ALWAYS wondered how that would work......Thanks for show this "veteran model builder" how to do that!! Yeah...as far as those decals, the Lines, I would have paint those---> Good job on those white lines!
Lastly your use of weathering products is EXCELLENT.... well done!!

That happens to me too, get tired and give up. Then I manage to pick up where I left (sometimes even a few years later!) and finish it.
Seems like you already put in a lot of work on the Dropship so maybe one day you will be able to finish it 😀👍
@@modeler5 You know........ You JUST inspired me into finding that 'Lost Ship' of a drop-ship of mine..... going to try to look for it this weekend, in my garage. I just hope that the decals of the "Badges" near the cockpit are still viable!!

Was ship 2 “Hard Boiled” or “Smart Ass”? Sticker looks like it could be the actual one in the movie, “Bug Stomper”
Didn't know those details until you asked but the blue sticker for ship 2 says "Smart Ass" and the red sticker for ship 1 says "Bug Stomper" 🙂
Came back to say you did an excellent job on this model. It was weird as I love that movie so much and I lost a loved one late last night so watching you build this while that music played took my mind off of things for a while. Thank you for sharing your build.

Awesome build! If you don’t mind me asking how much did you pay for this kit? I saw one at a model show a few years back and the only thing that kept me from buying it was the price. The guy was asking $175 for it and he would not budge. Certainly, these molds are still around somewhere and why a model company hasn’t picked them up and re-released this kit is a mystery. I know it would fly off the shelves.
I bought this years ago at an online auction site here in Japan, I think it was around 5000 yen - 6000 yen. Nowadays if it does come up on the auction sites, it usually sells for a little over 10,000 yen (around US$65 with the current rate). I agree, this is such a cool kit, if it was re-released it should sell like crazy👍
@@modeler5 Thanks! I could see paying between $65 and maybe even up to $100 given this kits, age and rarity but what that guy was selling that one he had for at $175 was pure insane. Hopefully they will release this kit soon!

Yes, I think there are a lot of collectors who are keeping these vintage kits in its box unmade. They are valuable so I completely understand if one wants to keep it unmade plus the art box is usually very cool too👍
