I never knew about copying hex codes with cmd + shift + c in the digital color meter. What a time saver

I reverted back to Catalina. And it wasn't easy. Why doesn't Apple make it easier for people that actually know how to mess with computers? MacOS is so simple and so stupid at the same time.
Regular Finder can already open a Terminal at the current folder. And you can set up a keyboard shortcut for it. I believe it’s a Service. But I’ve certainly done it on many occasions; For me it’s ctrl+F15.
You can also go up a directory with alt up arrow
A lot of the xtrafinder functions you mentioned can also be done in default macOS:
#1: Cmd-UpArrow goes up a folder; Cmd-[ and Cmd-] go “back” and “forward” just like in web browsers.
#2: There’s a built in service for “New Terminal at Folder” under System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Services.
#3: with multiple items selected, do Option-Cmd-i to get a window showing the total file size.
Btw shift-cmd-H opens home folder (which you can find in the Go menu)

I'm on Manjaro Mate, and the only times I touch the terminal is after install to make sure SSD trim is set, and if I get screen tearing, of which are both very simple commands. Thanks Snazzy - good tips. One note not to discount XtraFinder, but couple things mentioned are relatively easy in Finder natively:

“You’re wrong. Uh, turn this off. It’s disgusting. Thank you!” Hahaha
The thing that drives me insane in Big Sur is the uneven distances between icons in the menu bar. Reaaly hoped this would be in this video 🥴
Hi Snazzy Labs, I have really enjoyed and learnt a lot from your videos on maximizing the potentials of the Mac PC. Please how do you display your name on the top right of the menu bar?? Thanks a lot.
How did you write after disabling sip? I tried adding some ring tones so it can match my iPhone like in catalina, but it wouldn't let me write.
I'm still waiting for the second part of the Apple M1video :(
Some good tips, but that menu bar tip was way convoluted! I opened my desktop picture in Photoshop and added a black bar to the top of it! Took two goes to get the right depth but way easier than your method I feel 👍🏻
Sure, but you do need Photoshop or some other application, his method is probably easier if you do not have that
@@moritzh6876 well it goes without saying his is "easier" if you don't have Photoshop of course or similar but if you do which I'd imagine a decent percentage of Mac users would have, well.....
@@iaindouglas no we don't all have PS... also I prefer his method because I change wallpaper very often. Also I switch between dark and light mode very often so his method is way easier imo

Interessant and instructive Video! I have a question about the dimension of the font in the menubar, is it possible to "fix" it and change its dimensions?
Very useful! Thank you Snazzy Labs
Theres a Reduce Transparency option under Accessibility>Display that when turned on, turns your menu bar white in light mode and black in dark mode.
The problem is that I like the transparency across all the other apps, but with my background (which is white) in dark mode causes half my menu bar icons to be white on white, which is garbage. His solution fixes that while maintaining transparency in other applications.
Yeah but this way will make you feel like fancy geek
“Some people like the look of it...you’re wrong.”
Savage.
Useful tutorial, thank you! I have a question though regarding another setting in Big Sur. I have an 13" M1 MacBook Pro and while I can change the cursor size for the built in trackpad, I can't for the life of me figure out how to change the color. Frankly for me, the black cursor with white outline is hard for me to see sometimes and having it changed to a brighter color would be nice. Can this be done?
great tips! learn something new every time. thank you!
How about a basic feature like how much time my battery has left?
I use iStat Menus for that. If you want something free, coconut battery is for you.
Am I the only one who likes the look of Big Sur?
You are not alone mate!
@@CarlosRuiz20 Right. I like that it's like iOS but has its own personality.
@@toby2636 it feels coherent to ios and iPadOS but at the same time it has its own personality... I love all the transparency in the OS and its feels better than Catalina
@@CarlosRuiz20 YES^^^^^ this is what I mean!
I "disable transparency" and "reduce motion" in Accessibility > Display. This works without downloading any other apps to run and is native support to disable to transparency on the menu ribbon.
But removes transparency from all windows/apps. I like the transparency everywhere but the menu bar. A white background in dark mode causes way too many white on white menu bar items, which Snazzy’s solution fixes.
Hi there Snaz! I was wondering... How do you make the ChangeMenuBarColor work for different desktop spaces?

Hey Quinn, I always thought you're OCD and you have never proved me wrong!
Interface hacks always make me nostalgic for Kaleidoscope.
As a life long Windows user with relatively limited experience with MacOS but does appreciate your content because it gives me an insight into an OS that, while I don't see a change coming in the near future for me to it, I still know the value that MacOS has and it's impact on personal computing as a whole I have to say one thing
being able to make the menu bar a gradient like that looks great and I like that it exists.
Also, jokes aside and everything even though I do think the gradient thing is kinda cool, I love the presentation of this video. The sarcasm layered into general tips for people that may genuinely dislike some of the changes to MacOS that came with Big Sur and the comments like saying "You could round just one of the corners if you're a monster..." were great. Very well done as always Quinn.
Quinn surely you know you can drag finder items into terminal to save typing out whole destinations right? The way you were talking seems like you don’t.
Yes, I do but it's sometimes handy to open a terminal window when you're already in the directory with finder.
@@snazzy You can already do that. Right click, services, new terminal at folder. You can also press command up arrow, to go to a parent directory. Right in finder. For years now.
I agree, when you already have terminal open, dragging the folder / file into terminal is just as fast.

Extra bonus tip: in terminal you can go to the previous folder by typing: cd -
@Evgen Tarasenko I've used it every day for months, on 3 different mac's so... That's on you I guess.
I'd love to know how to remove the GOD AWFUL outline on Dock with "Reduced transparency" mode enabled. I mean I would like to use the mode but the outline is so hideous, I can't do it.
The correct answer is to autohide the dock. But yes, that outline you're talking about is hideous.
Yup! Also, if your using dark made, the reduce transparency just makes the dock have a black background and it looks ugly, especially if you've set a light desktop wallpaper.
Thanks for the SIP comments! Didn't know about M1, did care too much about it on Catalina.
Thank you Quinn. As a new mac user, these things weren't too jarring for me, but it does help with increasing customization options for the mac. Any clue on how to add intellisense/autocomplete to terminal like powershell?
Your WiFi name is HUGELY underrated

Any ideas for getting the external monitor menu bars to match? The Mac's menu bar changed but not the externals.
You can add a keystroke to open a folder in Terminal: Sys Prefs > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Services > Files and Folders. Plus, if you check the box to the left of the entry for "New Terminal at Folder" it will appear in the gear menu and contextual menu. No need for extra apps or using the menu bar.
I laughed hysterically for this whole video, idk if it’s because it’s late or if my sense of humor is broken
I'm getting sick of my Mac telling me my AirPods are nearby but never automatically connect.
And then when you open your AirPods hours after your computer goes to sleep, it connects to the Mac instead of the device you’re holding in front of you
Definitely will try the menu bar color mod. But if for some reason I want back the stock menu bar color, how can I change it back?

@@ales7838 I think we need to wait 1 year when everything will work natively and probably Parallels Windows 10 will work better and then it will be the beast!
By doing so actually, you will still keep the new version of bridgeOS (you are able to revert it back by doing dances but you dont need to since it works great as is) for T2 macs, even going back to Catalina you will gain the startup sound, apart from other fixes for BridgeOS.
