      East Sac Workshop I agree 👍 I've always secretly coveted those big old wooden ones we used to have in school.

    Awesome job on that. As I was watching you do that I was pondering what kind of glue they might have used years ago when making books. Thanks!

    • @TabLeft
      @TabLeft  6 років тому +1

      +Kevin Freeman likely it would have been something like hide glue for the leather and wheat paste for paper etc. but they would not have been constructed like this. Some interesting info on historic glues www.rocks4brains.com/glue.pdf

    Really great video. Thanks for posting! Can you explain the leather you used and where you got it?

    • @TabLeft
      @TabLeft  6 років тому

      +chexstix it's just a cheap mid weight (about 4oz) shoulder I got from Tandy leather some time ago. Usually on sale for about $30USD

    I watched this when it 1st came out. I have just had a 2 day marathon of watching bookbinding videos. I watched a lot of Sea Lemons too. Question, how has the glue joint from the leather to the paper held up?

    • @TabLeft
      @TabLeft  6 років тому

      Tom's Dreamshop Worx the glue has held fine but I made this for a several week long sailing trip where I’d be away from basically all communications that I ended up having to cancel. So its mostly just sat unused.

    Im jealous of the notebook you made....... I always may one for my own but it always lack paper..... Well i guess due to lazyness but still...... 😅😅

  • @Andre_Berthiaume

    Looks amazing, but given the sanded / cut edges, I wonder if that doesn't affect the waterproof-ness of it. Still: beautiful result!

    • @TabLeft
      @TabLeft  6 років тому +2

      Andre Berthiaume I had the same though but I'm not really looking for water proof so much as resistant if a bit of rain or ocean spray got on the surface. I might test some of the offcuts anyways to see how they holdup

    Great video! What's the name of the tool you used at 7:25 to cut the grooves into the spine area of the leather?

    • @TabLeft
      @TabLeft  5 років тому

      I think I used a combination of a stitching groover and edge beveler
