  • Thank you Woodsmith for sponsoring this project! If you want to build your own pizza peel you can find the plans I used here - bit.ly/2TfkB4H
The perfect compliment to my wood pizza fired oven was obviously a handmade pizza peel! Now I can really make pizzas in style, and the best part about this project is that it can easily be done in a day. Whether you want to use all hand tools or incorporate a hybrid woodworking approach, this is a fun project which will up your pizza making game several levels.

I wants me some o' that pizza! 😋
It seems like everyone uses mineral oil as their go-to when they want a food safe finishing oil. But mineral oil doesn't harden, so it doesn't give much protection to the wood. There are several hardening oils that are food safe: Walnut oil, pure tung oil, and pure linseed oil (not the "boiled" stuff that has hardeners added). I think these all bring out the color of wood better than mineral oil, too.
