It’s backwards to ask someone not to say “they’re a narcissist,” or not to get emotional. Of course you’re gonna get emotional, you’ve been abused psychologically! It’s considered psychological torture the way they skew your reality and cause you to even dissociate. The system needs to change.

yes. we're pretty f*cked up in the areas of 'communication'. 'emotional stability' etc. Personally I don't know how a "family/divorce" lawyer could ever think that "they're brilliant at their job " (which they all tell you in the initial consult, when grabbing your cash), if they've NEVER educated THEMSELVES with various 'personality disorders' .. how can you be effective in negotiations, if you don't know who you're negotiating with ???? ... Ummm in the 'investment world'... that's THEEE FIRST THING that is DONE ( get to know who your opponents are) BEFORE you set down negotiation/takeover strategy !!

When Rebecca says don’t be overly emotional or demanding, I think it’s important to clarify that people going through the hell of divorcing a narcissist are feeling more fear than they ever thought possible. Sometimes being “overly emotional” may be caused by a person not knowing how to communicate the repeated episodes of emotional abuse inflicted by the narcissist. Years of micro aggressions and petty BS can be really difficult to put into words. The demanding part may be the client not knowing how to organize their thoughts in a way that is helpful to the attorney. It might be necessary for the attorney to help the client find a way to write down the things they want the attorney to know. It would also be important for the client to explain their expectations early on so the attorney can correct any assumptions that are unrealistic. As with any relationship, establishing the boundaries early on is always important. Lawyers are NOT therapists so don’t expect them to act like therapists.

My attorney is trash. I was falsely accused of shoving someone and charged by police for it. I was angry when police arrived because both my wife and I were hit by 3 people. We are both disabled and this attorney I've been paying has lied several times to me. I've now got proof of one of the lies and it's a whopper. Any ideas what I should do? I live in Indiana and cannot afford another attorney. My family helped me with this turd. He had my wife in a room for 45 minutes and she said he told her he was about to refund my money and then spent maybe 5 minutes talking to me. The police report is full of false information which some I can prove because I took video. I can prove the attorney lied because of text messages. It was very hard as a man to watch 2 women beat on my wife after making threats and not being able to do anything about it. Or face charges myself. Self defense laws in Indiana are interpreted by police to work just about however the want them to work. I was hit by 3 women after putting my phone camera away. I never raised my hand to anyone yet I'm being charged for battery. Police told me before leaving that 3 people accused me of hitting someone. I was not arrested but received a summons on the mail a week later to find out that someone not involved at all in the altercation had accused me of shoving her. I found out right after going to the police station and buying the police report. I'm basically being railroaded. I'm 54 and know better to hit on people unless I feel there is a real threat. I wasn't hurt but my wife's eye was blacked and cut open. Yes I'm still angry with this attorney and the police that bought these neighbor's story. 9 days later the three women that were actually involved were arrested for methamphetamine charges. The woman that accused me of shoving her, her and her boyfriend do not have custody of their children over felony domestic battery charges for fighting in front of children under age 16. No I have security cameras and video of both of them making threats of physical violence to me. They have just now been warned one time for the threats after 1 year of complaining to an incompetent landlord who is also in breach of contract. This is a huge mess. I have many emails of complaints of threats and drug dealing at the apartment building made to the landlord. I also have a copy of the warning letter sent to the accuser. The letter was a warning for threats made to me. I turned in the video and another neighbor heard it all and called her. I so wish I had the money to file a lawsuit against my landlord and to hire another attorney. I'd love to file suit against the attorney as well for lying to me about this case. He is a real piece of work. My family is helping to pay him. I sure don't make the money with me and my wife both being disabled. I wonder if I can fire him on the basis he told me I cannot afford a jury trial that i know i am entitled to under the 6th amendment. You can't just prove I did something I did not do with no proof and the lying witnesses all have violent felony and or felony drug related charges that are recent. My discovery contains a 16 year old misdemeanor and 2, 25 year old misdemeanor battery charges. I'm too old for this type of activity and have a lot of spine disease in my neck and back. God I need help on what I should do. It's a hot mess.

it is important judges lawyers social workers etc have an awareness
in their training about these toxic people

    • @italiani41
      @italiani41 3 роки тому +7

They do have awareness, they do. The point is that they want easy cases to quickly bring to conclusion. One that involves narcissism is rather complicated because it has to be proven the guy is a narcissist. This implies psychological evaluations that often are inconclusive ( because the narcissist is the master in manipulation), witnesses etc.
Judges are rated based on how quickly and fast they close cases. So... there you have why judges, social workers, etc. “don’t have awareness”.
We come down always to the same issue: money! There’s no true willingness of the triumph of truth and justice, except... on the paper.

I’m studying right now to be a Family Court Paralegal. I think it’s really important we choose the right attorneys because please forgive me but many of them are on power trips and Narcissists themselves. I hear about this constantly through the groups I’m in with these Legal Assistants that work with awful Attorneys. Be careful. My Attorney was very expensive but in family court they follow a structure. Law is about rules. If A then B, B then C on and on.
Family court is highly adversarial and high conflict and anyone involved knows this. If I call out my Attorney on mistakes, then absolutely he’s not the Attorney for me. Unfortunately, I did have to point out some mistakes.
Family Court needs an overhaul, in my humble opinion and that is WHY I’m studying. The Paralegal knows the law, the Attorney makes the court believe they know the law.
    Much respect to you. 🙏

Unfortunately, there are so many narcissists and psychopaths in family law, from attorneys to custody evaluators, and it is a nightmare if they work together with your ex-narcissist. They love taking down their prey together and they triangulate with, financially and egoistically embrace / love bomb each other. You might benefit by letting them get too arrogant and slip up, really call them on their methods, their lies, and then there is an opportunity. Make sure to be humble, but strong and confident in using it because if they get away with it or overcome it they will come back all the more arrogant and abusive, so embrace the opportunity. They would, and will twist it if you don't.

You said you wanted to know what I was thinking......here goes.
I thought the suggestions of the kind of person a lawyer wants to represent was very discouraging for people with C-PTSD (caused by the narc). I totally comprehend that lawyers are not therapists. Yet, symptoms like not being able to express oneself clearly, being emotionally calm/balanced, doubting of the world (including lawyers), etc. can be signs of an abusive long term spouse/business partner/boss/parent. I do appreciate boundaries that fit in the norm. But maybe you would consider that many victims of Narc abuse haven't found their authentic self to work through mediation, like suggested. I
I write this because I am a Service Dog Trainer and have benefited for self and the clients, by understanding the Trauma Symptoms. How many clients were not well thought of just because no time was given to understanding the behaviors. How many had difficulty making firm decisions or regulate their expressions. I found those are the times not to take it personally. It was then that they needed me most. Possibly victims need their lawyers to understand that. also?
I do thank you for your videos and expert advice.

Right I don’t see women as having it worse even when they were the abuser. It’s often worse for men bc people don’t think a man can. Be abused but unless you have been educated to all their tactics you will try very hard and put up with far more than you think bc you don’t know you’re dealing with a disordered and evil person you think as a man I’ve got to do whatever it takes to keep the marriage together so you end up exhausted and your confidence and everything are out of whack and people automatically don’t really want to hear about a man being abused bc they don’t understand the victims don’t realize it until it’s too late jn most cases and victims often kill themselves and go to their graves thinking it was their fault. I’m just saying s female narcissist will most definitely use the societal bias against a man so I can’t fathom how women in general can be at a disadvantage in court regardless of what gender the judge is. The only people not fooled are people who have been a victim and survived but their often discredited and weakened so nobody believes them by the time they say anything. They even fool marriage counselors and therapists of all kinds. Their whole life is a manipulation just one big ball of lies.

I stuck it out over a year so far. My atty reminds me of Rebecca, but scarier. She threatened to fire me in the first year.
Fast forward to this year, she told me she doesn't even trust her kids or husband, but after this year, every single prediction I made has come true. She trusts me now She said she was reading my marriage history to freshen up and that this is "the real deal" and "there was no way out".
She told me she usually doesn't feel anything about the defendant, but she groans when she has to deal with him. The mediator muttered "a$$h*le" the first time she had to deal with him, when she thought no one could hear. The forensic accountant doubled what he was reporting and thinks he is a liar and won't budge. Even his attorney seems overwhelmed.
Stick with it. Now, they all call him a narcissist and treat him accordingly.

I’m ready to be free! Even if some days I feel confused, other days sad, other days exhausted, other days empowered…. I am working on my confidence, informing myself as much as possible, being in contact with my family and friends (on the phone and social media, as they are most far from me), going to counseling, and reading all the books I can about divorce and narcissistic abuse. Anyways I feel scared and overwhelmed. I hope everything goes fine for both of us. I just wanna end this nightmare and sleep for a couple of weeks.
Thank you Rebecca! You are so generous!!! You’re giving the world a super great service!!! Wish you all the best in your life.
Sending you light, love, and wishing you peace, health and happiness.

Got a narc slayer shirt for my awesome wife who has fought a covert one for 10 years now 6 of which I've been around to support her custody fight and seen it up close being dumbfounded of what I'm witnessing. Everything you say in your videos is absolutely spot on. Thank you again!

My Lawyer was the worst. Told him everything except that my husband was a Narc. He threw me under the bus with a financial question from the Judge; claiming he knew nothing about the 20,000$ debt I held. I disclosed everything to him. It was on his documents. He stood there and told the Judge I didn’t have a clue about money because I’d never taken care of myself, lived on my own!

Exactly. The lawyer calls the shots. Just keep them informed, and keep calm so they are confident you have all the evidence organized, and will make a strong witness. I have twice hired lawyers for very limited purposes - like help with specific motions without taking on full representation, and both instances had very good results without costing me an arm and a leg. Not all cases can go that route, especially if you have zero legal experience. But if other things in your case are not of great significance, it's sometimes helpful to inquire with a lawyer to help you with only one aspect of your case like that.

I've been falsely charged and I tested the public defender the judge ordered to my case ,I know I commented no crime so I had to test attorney to see find out who is behind this charge ,my sister has been calling to every place I've been ,my sister has called and accused me of being on methamphetamine ,so since the charge truly never happened and is a lie I had to find out who was behind doing this to me ,the first public defender stepped in it the first words he spoke to me first time meeting him ,I always check my first thought belief and he got fired the first word he spoke to me ,I am on my third public defender and I will have to test him because my dad has ask me if new public defender was a male or female because I never said his name on purpose and my sister uses my dad to try find out things about me , ,thank you for these videos ,this has truly reassured me that I'm correct I'm right about who has lied set me up on false charges ,the answer of who the CI is keeps bringing my sister in the picture , if new public defender has been contacted from my sister he will be fired too ,this is truly unreal please pray for me thank you for being here reassuring me and knowing I'm right about my Case

    I declined her..
I went and request mediation the x declined.. So I informed her of form 60c which I don't need to go through mediation I can go straight to court with what you have done to your daughter (verbal and physical abuse).
It makes me so angry but i won't let her see me like that..

Once I divorced her is when things have gotten the worse. That was 6 years ago. Know lawyers I have dealt with no nothing about narcissist. I have been dragged in to court so many times I can’t could. She has lied, and twisted everything. And I have lost every case. I am begging you to help me and my 13 year old daughter find a lawyer/ attorney to help and save us.. I have lost everything, and have nothing more to give within myself. Please, I know you understand, please help me. I am sorry tired of asking for help, with nobody listening or hearing me. She is not going to stop until I am dead.🙏🙏🙏

I was in a will challenge case and my lawyer kept treating me like I was withholding something, so I told him I had been involved with and abused by a narcissist, which a good friend had advised me under no circumstances to reveal to him, but I had to because the other party knew. After that, I could feel his opinion of me drop. He tried to take advantage of me by squeezing more time out of me (he was paid hourly), as if I was an abusable moron, yet he refused to read the emails between my Dad and me, which I had printed out for him all organized and chronological and the most important ones flagged for content, and he soon thereafter told me I could not go to court, because "there was not enough money now to make it worth it", where beforehand he had been telling me he would only proceed if I assured him I would not back down on going to court, seeing as I have an anxiety condition (CPTSD). I was crushed and my panic attacks got worse. He seemed to think the court would deny me justice due to my mental state, as if "crazy people" don't win. He also seemed to have too much sympathy for the other party. I don't think he wanted to help me any more, felt like he was no longer on my side. Maybe someone called him a narcissist at one time. He even told me flat out that success for a lawyer is a big paycheck, not obtaining justice for people. He wasted the legal budget on back and forth volleys with the other party, he pissed them off and I had to settle for less than was due to me, allowing my narcissistic father to win, and we didn't go to court. All my lawyer said was that he was disappointed, and that he had been "sure" I had a strong case, as if he had been lying to me earlier. I am a poor person and I don't think anyone should be paid $400./hr, when others are paid $14. Totally unbalanced. Justice was unattainable due to it being too expensive, and too subjective. Am I analyzing the situation correctly? Did he simply get annoyed with me and not care to help? Why did he not care about my case? Is it because I used the word narcissist?

Sooo many inconsiderate people out there. I used to work as a security guard for divorce court, the judge had the attitude that since the litigants were going through a tough time that it excused them to miss treat the security upon entry of the court building. Needless to say I quit, I'll never work in a public capacity again.

what attorneys can do : is Educate their clients - right out the gate, regarding do's/don'ts, What the Attorney Needs from their client - like you discussed ; regarding accusations , proof etc. I think if they exercised at least a SMIDGE of compassion, & educate their clients, EVERYTHING would be more streamlined, efficient, AND effective. ya'll need to play 'fair' as well .
