One thing about her performance that I especially love: she comes off as more than just cute and chipper and optimistic here. She also seems just a little bit tough, and tired, like she's actually lived a rough life. To me, that makes the song and its message feel that much more powerful, because it's coming from a place of dogged determination and grit. She's not just naturally optimistic - she's CHOOSING to be optimistic, day after day.
Outstanding. No one will EVER come close to touching her on this song. I’ve heard so many live renditions of her singing this and it is incredible how consistently amazing she sounds. Vocal cords of steel.
I feel like she did a great job with seeming like a tough orphan kid. A lot of Annies are all sweet and innocent, not like they've been through the depression
Original broadway Annie… and second ever to have played Annie only to Kristen Vigard who played Annie in Goodspeed Opera House, Connecticut on the 10th Aug 1976. When moving to Broadway, Andrea McArdle (singing here) was the first to ever do that. Kristen Vigard was the understudy. I too hold this as my favourite version I’ve ever heard. Just out of this world
Hands down the best Annie! The originals are usually the best and this is no exception . Her vocal talent is amazing even at such a young age. Whenever I think of this song I always think on Andrea . Great performance and performer 😎😎😎
I remember being taken to this iconic show Annie in London's west End it was spell binding and has become one of my favourites of all time , Annie the musical is very close to my heart, miss Andrea McArdles astounding strength of her singing voice was just phenomenal and still is a God given talent to her Bravo miss Andrea- Mc Ardle.
@PeachWNK Totally agree. I think that’s what, in part, made her so appreciated and successful in the role and why the show worked (aside from her fantastic talent). She was very cute, but there was something very down-to-earth and unpretentious about her. Martin Charnin says most of the girls who auditioned and the young lady who preceded Andrea in early pre-Broadway rehearsals came off as too affected, sweet, and polished, and Andrea was the antithesis of all that and when they moved her from supporting orphan to lead, the entire show seemed to change for the better.
Some songs get so well known that you tend to lose objectivity about them ... but WOW this kid had pipes and she sold that lyric! ........ great dog too!
Andrea McArdle, was, without a doubt, the *BEST* Annie. The funny part is, since my real name is Andrea, the chorus/performing arts teacher at my High School (who I had known since I was in 2nd grade), he would jokingly call me Andrea McArdle! HAHA!
I met Andrea McArdle when she performed in Washington, DC. I was lucky enough to get her autograph. She signed it a professional actress years her age and ignored me completely (we are about the same age). Regardless, she was the best Annie ever and one of the best Fantine's. Judy Garland would be proud to have her play her, aka Leather Lungs, Ms. Garland's nickname.
I came here just to look at her hair and got a great performance. Actually, the hair looks blonde in some lights and red in others. The OG Annie title had her as a blonde, then it got changed to red and now everyone thinks she's always been a redhead.
Not just the best Annie, the ONLY Annie. The others just don't seem to fit the mold which was broken by Andrea McArdle. Hard to believe she was 13 or 14 singing here.
@Joy Neureuter What's up with your stupid comment? Your name is Joy and your profile pic is a peace sign....kinda ironic when you're going after people's profile pics like some 3rd grader.....
Shalisa Sloan age 11 did the extended version voiceover for Rock-a-fire explosion's char; "Mitzi Mozarella" At 11 years old, Shalisa became the voice of Showbiz Pizza’s animatronic mouse, Mitzi Mozzarella. Later, she was the voice of Tessa on the Emmy award-winning PBS show, “The Reppies”. Currently her voice can be heard on over 500 national jingles, hawking everything from laundry soap to liposuction. Winner of the Accappella Community Awards “Favorite Female Vocalist”, Shalisa’s regional stage credits include: THE CHILDREN’S HOUR, 110 IN THE SHADE, ANNIE, VANITIES, and IS THERE LIFE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL? When not performing in Vox Audio, Shalisa is the vocal director for all live shows at Universal Studios, Florida. ua-cam.com/video/QQsrhI0rWZs/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/d5u4WorKNqI/v-deo.html

Perfectly put!
That’s been my issue with most of the modern Annie’s they miss what you described.
she had some serious pipes on her as a kid...still does.
This doesn’t even seem pushed, this is clearly short of full throttle.
Outstanding. No one will EVER come close to touching her on this song. I’ve heard so many live renditions of her singing this and it is incredible how consistently amazing she sounds. Vocal cords of steel.
She had the package. Adorable, pretty, could act, dance, and man could she freakin sing.
Every note....you could feel it....such emotional depth for a young singer
Sister brother before
She was playing no games !!! SHE SLAYED !!!!!!!!!
The reason the show was a hit. They could never come close to finding another like her.
I feel like she did a great job with seeming like a tough orphan kid. A lot of Annies are all sweet and innocent, not like they've been through the depression
Best version I heard, and she's singing live.

Just out of this world
The yardstick that every Annie will always be measured by. The best ever.
Easily
She’s so lovable. Even as an adult; something about her.
The Enunciation is unparalleled
My favorite Annie!

She was fabulous
Her voice resonates with me. Even as she and I get older....still true sound...theres something there that's so real...
My God I just went back 40 years in time.
No one will ever sing it like her
Andrea mcardle is such a fabulous singer🤩 i Just love this young lady🥰 She was fabulous in RAINBOW: The Judy Garland Story!! What a prodigy!
I remember being taken to this iconic show Annie in London's

My favorite Annie. What I like is it’s just pure singing. Not that “Broadway Kid” singing, affected and too trained.

Wow. Awesome!
Such talent, some other versions get screeching imho
I didn't realize this is this old.
She was the best Annie easily
Love it when she sings to President Roosevelt!
Awesome ...always 👌
She looks like that famous child actor in the 70's - Ricky Schroder.
Goodness!!!

I think you’re missing a few words in this comment. It makes no sense.
One in a billion!
Incroyable

Not just the best Annie, the ONLY Annie. The others just don't seem to fit the mold which was broken by Andrea McArdle.

Anyone thinks she sounds like Jojo siwa?
No. Jojo Siwa can’t sing, I’d like to see her try singing the end of this song like Andrea could at 1:13
Michael i meant just 0:46-0:47. Sorry for misunderstanding..
but I agree, jojo cant sing
....No.
No- I see it too. There’s something about her that reminds me of Jojo. Maybe her eyes?
