There is something so special about Andrea McArdle. She has the most amazing presence and a voice that just effortlessly pours out of her. She has done other Broadway musicals well suited to her voice: the lead roles in Beauty and the Beast, Annie Get Your Gun, and Les Miserables (as Fantine.) Wow. Andrea is magical. No wonder people think of her when they think if Annie. She’s just incredible. Brings me to tears. I had the musical album with Andrea as a kid and I was in AWE. What a vocalist. Brava! I was the same age as Aileen when the film came out and I thought, oh no, I’m not going to like it! I was so scared because I’m a little girl singing to Andrea McCartle over and overcast again. I dreamed of being an orphan. @@MeowingCookie_ This was her first appearance after her chemo was done. SHe still had stomach issues from it. I am good friends with her and she still sings now and then.. She can belt that song out to this day.
Can we just talk about how mature Allison Smith was throughout the entire thing? She didn’t try to ham it up for the camera/audience during Hard Knock Life, she was focused on singing it correctly and giving a good presentation. She was the first clapping for Andrea McArdle, as if she were in awe with admiration. She was late to coming around the piano for a final bow from this. To think she was only 12 or 13 at the time deserves some huge recognition.
If you watch at the beginning you can see she is telling Martin Thank you when he hands her the mic. I love on how so many clips of her when someone hands her the mic she makes sure to tell them thank you. You can tell she was very well brought up.
Marlee Suarez I love how her face was acting out the song. At the start, her face looked annoyed because the song was a song where they were all annoyed and singing about their circumstance.
What a gem of a video. Thanks so much for posting. Brings back so many memories as I used to go see Annie all the time when I was a teenager. I was there for Shelley Bruce's final performance when Martin came out on stage after the show to introduce SJP as the next Annie and said she was on her way to get her hair cut and dyed for the role. Nobody will ever come close to Andrea's phenomenal vocal performance in this role. Sorry. Nobody!! And every single one that followed in her footsteps was influenced by how she sang it! And though some may have been phenomenal in the role, in 40 years none have sung it as well.
I was just able to preform at a gala with Andrea McArdle and it was amazing. She’s so talented and nice. She’s such and inspiration and I’m so happy that I got the opportunity to do this.
I have to say the pianist has such a cool voice! Also Alison Smith's performance in this video is absolutely iconic. Over 850 performances! Insane to me. And another thing, i never watched the full video until on the 3rd watch, i read Sarah Jessica Parker in the title. Wow. crazy to see her in this and so young.
Andrea's voice is literally spine-tingling! And even though I think they lowered the key a little for her more mature voice here, she still nailed those loud high notes! What a phenomenal singer! 🧡
The others were good but Andrea brought tears to my eyes. I still have the album of the original Broadway cast that I got when I was a little kid back then. She will always be the definitive Annie to me.

That's a good friend. Personally I love Allison.
Wow. Almost auditioned...But I do love the movie as well and Aileen is like a little Shirley Temple. Loved it, love them all. But Andrea has the most splendid voice. This made me cry!
I totally agree with you
Andrea brought her to life. That song is hers, period.
Omg! I'm just seeing this but Andrea McArdle gave me the chills... that was awesome!
Me too holy shit real goosebumps....
Sharetha Riggins I've watched this so many times and she gives me the chills every time!
I'm just here for the Gunne Sax!
I actually really enjoy Shelly Bruce
Yea, I keep coming back to watch her.
Andrea's adult voice is like velvet.
Andrea's voice is beautiful and powerful.
I agree re: McArdle's voice.. wonderful!!
Sex and the city was the last shit I was expecting
I know Shelley Bruce went through 6 weeks of treatment for leukemia in 1982 - I wonder if this was before or after that?
Angelle Horste I think she was diagnosed in October of 81 so it would have been after
@@MeowingCookie_ This was her first appearance after her chemo was done. SHe still had stomach issues from it. I am good friends with her and she still sings now and then.. She can belt that song out to this day.
I noticed that he held her hand when she came on stage, where he didn’t for the others, so it would make sense this occurred after.
It looked like a wig...
Awww! I really loved her singing. She sounded so strong that it seems so much more amazing that she had gone through treatment before this.
So hard to believe that Andrea is a grandmother now. Where did the time fly?
Can we just talk about how mature Allison Smith was throughout the entire thing? She didn’t try to ham it up for the camera/audience during Hard Knock Life, she was focused on singing it correctly and giving a good presentation. She was the first clapping for Andrea McArdle, as if she were in awe with admiration. She was late to coming around the piano for a final bow from this. To think she was only 12 or 13 at the time deserves some huge recognition.
I don't know what you're seeing. She is definitely acting it up.
I see her trying way too hard!
She seems like a good kid very kind u can just tell
If you watch at the beginning you can see she is telling Martin Thank you when he hands her the mic. I love on how so many clips of her when someone hands her the mic she makes sure to tell them thank you. You can tell she was very well brought up.
Marlee Suarez
I love how her face was acting out the song.
Andrea is from the old school Broadway when performers didn't have their own individual microphones so you had to be louder and more theatrical
That has nothing to do with why her voice was so extraordinary. It wasn't special because it was loud.
agree, she had a depth to her voice even as a young performer that others have yet to display.
I was just able to preform at a gala with Andrea McArdle and it was amazing. She’s so talented and nice. She’s such and inspiration and I’m so happy that I got the opportunity to do this.
i loved andrea in rainbow..she was a fabulous judy garland
I have to say the pianist has such a cool voice! Also Alison Smith's performance in this video is absolutely iconic. Over 850 performances! Insane to me. And another thing, i never watched the full video until on the 3rd watch, i read Sarah Jessica Parker in the title. Wow. crazy to see her in this and so young.
Andrea's voice is literally spine-tingling! And even though I think they lowered the key a little for her more mature voice here, she still nailed those loud high notes! What a phenomenal singer! 🧡
Sarah Jessica Parker was a little pitchy imo.
Yes, found the full version . . .Finally i can sleep
yes it was an odyssey to find this damn video
...and then Andrea McArdle comes out and shows everyone how it's done.
Alison is 12 n sounds better than her
Now I understand why SJP’s voice is so bright and thin- she started as a kid on broadway. That’s a whole different voice.
She began in the Mickey mouse club.
Her role on Glee made a lot more sense after this.
I saw Ms. McArdle in a cabaret in Orlando a few years ago, she STILL has the pipes of power. and she's pretty funny as well.
McArdle makes this song sound EASY to sing. 👏🏼👏🏼
The others were good but Andrea brought tears to my eyes. I still have the album of the original Broadway cast that I got when I was a little kid back then. She will always be the definitive Annie to me.
I really don't care how old she or I ever get, Andrea McArdle WILL ALWAYS be "Annie"!
I agree!!!
Damn, Andrea McArdle, way to give a dude goosebumps. That was awesome !!!
The third Annie, wow. These girls are all phenomenal as are the many many other Annies that have come and gone but her voice is just wow. I'm speechless...
Allison killed it.. just snapped right in lol
The incomparable Andrea.
Andrea McArdle takes you to a magical place where Broadway songs shine the brightest. FANTASTIC!
