For my 10th birthday, September of 1979, my dad took me to see Sarah Jessica Parker as Annie in the Alvin Theater. It was my first live musical, and it couldn't have been better!
Go ahead Sarah Jessica Parker....you hit that note that made you famous...I still remember when Dickinson got on the PA and said you're on Broadway in the 5th grade
I think that the company would have had the same singing teacher for the kids, and especialy for the Annies, cause no matter who does it, they all sound the same to me.
Sarah Jessica Parker looks exactly the same! And she can sing! Lol, they did mess up a part though... Annie is poor as a mouse, and Warbucks is richer than Midas. ;)
God back when kid singers actually had normal realistic voices, unlike these auto tuned sterilized modern signers with their “perfect digitally altered voices”
Well she was in the Original Broadway Cast with McArdle, in a smaller role before taking over the lead.. possible they received instruction from the same people.
@@dantezuccaro She was? I thought in the documentary life after tomorrow she mentioned seeing the show with her step dad who told her "You're not really Annie material" and that she joined the cast a few year later. I know she was the third Annie (Shelly Bruce was the second)
@doso don I guess you're right .It's funny ,when you think of Parker ,Annie isn't what comes to mind. Andrea on the other hand ,is Annie. Probably in the long run ,didn't help her career. I know she did other things ,but kind of type cast. Kind of sad really.
She can be found on several Broadway cast recordings. She starred in the Broadway revival Once Upon a Mattress where she played the princess Winifred. Carol Burnett originally played the role in the original Broadway cast. SJP has been in several musicals on Broadway, including starring opposite Matthew J.Broderick in How to Succeed in Business without really trying. She replaced Megan Mulally (Karen from Will and Grace) in the role of Rosemary. This show coincided with matthew and sjp marriage in 1997
She was the weakest of the original Annie’s consisting of Andrea McCardle, Shelly Bruce & Allison Smith. She wasn’t a belter like the others were for Tomorrow which is the most important song. I think she was an orphan for a while behind Bruce and then got the promotion when she left.
That’s how Shelley Bruce got the job, too - she was one of the orphans when McArdle had the title role, and got a promotion when McArdle left the Broadway production. McArdle herself was one of the orphans in the pre-Broadway tryouts, and got promoted to Annie prior to the Broadway opening.

I always loved SJP. Thanks for posting these wonderful steps on the way to her illustrious career.
While her voice is thin, her vibrato is beautifully controlled in her upper register. Lovely rendition and a wonderful Annie! 💕💕💕
It adds to her youthful sound
Your comment was four years ago, but I will still tell you to shut up. While her voice is thin. Who the hell are you?
Remember that singing in that seated position--especially for a kid--is enormously challenging. A+ for SJP!!
agreed. my vocal coach told me singing while sitting is the hardest.
The only thing I can see when I look at SJP is Carrie Bradshaw. I didn't know she had singing chops like this!
Julie Delahooke she started on broadway
She later played Winifred in Once Upon a Mattress 😊
She slayed that last note. Good for her👏 great job
I like her tone, very bright and cute
I agree..she said on the documentary "Life after tomorrow" that she felt like she never did it that well but I felt she did an amazing job!
Saw SJP play Annie on Broadway in ny started out as one of the orphans
Come little children I’ll take you away .
this 'Sandy' is the image of my childhood dog Sabre, a half Irish wolf hound/ golden retreiver, i had him 17 years, he was the best.!
nothing to not love about SJP! What a talent! (thank you for posting)!
Wow, I never knew she could sing! How adorable.
That dogs was so adorable 🥰🥰🥰
So talented and cute!!🙏🏻💕Thank you for uploading!
Such a hard hard song to sing for kids. I'm always impressed when a kid that age can pull it off.
she was like 14 though
Anyone would find it challenging ... her tuning in this is bang-on !! So impressed ❤️
Actually saw her on Broadway. Still have the playbill!
wow, she has the same face!!! wonderful
I heard her sing recently and she I think is in her 50s,her voice is still quite lovely although not as powerful as it was when she was this young
There is only5 girls who really deserve the title and shes one..adorable
Which others?
Lydia I’d say Her, Lilla Crawford and Andrea Mcardle are one of the most memorable annies (in my opinion)
Oh god, she’s so adorable! 😍
Her voice is enough to put a spell on you !
She could sing back then, very cute❣🐾🌄
love SJP this is so cute Annie was the first show I did back in middle school!
I kind of wish she sang this song when she was reunited with Pete when he ran off on her. That would have made a great conclusion to the episode. .
Actually, dumb dog would be better
she was ok. She did nail the last note well. McArdle did really set the bar high for this role. Its hard to emulate her voice for tomorrow.
Leave Sarah alone!!!!!
@Nunovurbznzsodontask
Yes, so maybe you should try being an adult too.
Sarah has a much softer voice then McArdle did, so by default some of the notes won’t be as easy for her to hit
Everyone is allowed to voice their own opinions. Come 9n! All of them were excellent. That's mine.
So talented
Tell me I'm not the only one who wanted to see this performance after watching the week 13 video of squared peg
What A Cutie As Annie
I had no idea she did Annie on Broadway and could sing
Really? She sang in Hocus Pocus.
Go ahead Sarah Jessica Parker....you hit that note that made you famous...I still remember when Dickinson got on the PA and said you're on Broadway in the 5th grade
I was NEVER a singer but a dancer...only the youth can have the strength for that song
What year was this? IMPRESSIVE!
So cute
Wow! Pretty.
Beautiful voice
I love SJP. She was okay. No Andrea McArdle.
SJP tended to scream those notes. Andrea truly sang them, and beautifully!
How come I never hear older sjp sing ?
lamine428 glee!
She’s reprising the role of Sarah Sanderson hopefully she sings again

Has anyone noticed how way too skinny SJP looked at this age
esther14 shes playing a poor orphan, isn’t that the point.
No
She looks perfectly healthy to me
Y aquí empezó la leyenda 😥
Can you upload Village People on that tv show
I think that the company would have had the same singing teacher for the kids, and especialy for the Annies, cause no matter who does it, they all sound the same to me.
I think they did...the writer was also the director so that is probably part of the reason.

100% agree
That is... if they had actually played the part where Bob and Sarah sing the duet. :/
Did she have Andrea McArdle's singing teacher?
Probably the record. ;)
Well she was in the Original Broadway Cast with McArdle, in a smaller role before taking over the lead.. possible they received instruction from the same people.

littlesongbird1 you’re correct. She was not in the original cast. I saw the original cast on Broadway when I was 8.
Wow SJP maybe the best version of this song ,ever.
@doso don What's she going to say.?? I'm the best. Andrea is ok I guess.

Andrea McArdle is still the best annie.....
Can't help imagining the younger version of Kim Cattrall joining in to tell stories about all the boys she blew in school that day.

Wasnt this parodied in the simpsons?😂
Werk ❤️
I wonder why SJP stopped singing

Andrea McArdle was the BEST Annie
1979
Nice but not a strong voice, it only comes her throat and not her gut, no one beats or comes near Andrea McArdle
Twins
What an honorable try
Hm, when can I catch YOUR performance on Broadway?
She has the ability to sing but doesn’t have a nice voice.
She was the weakest of the original Annie’s consisting of Andrea McCardle, Shelly Bruce & Allison Smith. She wasn’t a belter like the others were for Tomorrow which is the most important song. I think she was an orphan for a while behind Bruce and then got the promotion when she left.

How irritating.
