    This brought back some fond memories for me. I had the same motorbike as a kid in the 70's and the machine gun also broke at the same point due to me pushing it down the stairs lol. I also made my own parachuter using old scarves which would not always work as I threw them out of my parents bedroom window lol. He once got stuck on the gutter for a day or two lol. Thanks for sharing.

    The colored electrical tape is a Godsend to collectors and customizers; it can be used to replace or repair broken straps, belts, holsters and nearly any other bit of kit made of vinyl or rubber. I recently lucked into a couple of vintage Russian and German belt buckles, and by folding the appropriately colored tape over on itself in thirds, I replaced the belts and with a bit of polish and careful painting, they now look good as new.

      Historical accuracy was not really a concern for Cherilea, in particular those stickers and the machine gun. Not mentioning the colour of the vehicle which should be either dark grey or sand yellow, eventually with camouflage added.

    Most of those 'Cherilea' vehicles (my younger brother had a Jeep and a Kettenkraftrad) were made of Polythene and Polypropylene, both of which are resistant to most chemicals, although Polypropylene will weaken and go brittle if overly exposed to sunlight. The 'Kettenkrad' half-track motorcycle was a most impressive toy, and worth seeking out.

      Good question.

    • @flitsertheo
      @flitsertheo 4 роки тому +3

      Late answer but this is supposed to be a Zündapp KS750 which was introduced in 1940. The Indiana Jones stories precede that year. Though Zündapp made motorcycles before so it could be depicted as one of its predecessors and anyway as I mentioned elsewhere Action Man never was much concerned with historical accuracy when it came to vehicles.

    Nice piece! Wait... aren't those insignias for the Afrika Korps? That's a regular German Stormtrooper and bike isn't it? Shouldn't he be in Afrika Korps colours?

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  7 років тому +1

      +TheNightBadger I don't know much about the insignias. I just restored it to how it would have been originally. And I only have this German Stormtrooper outfit, so he got to ride it :)

    • @boblowes
      @boblowes 6 років тому

      It's certainly BASED on the Afrika Korps insignia - the genuine insignia had a swastika over the trunk of the palm tree. Palitoy made their own genuine Action Man Motorcycle and Sidecar, using the same motorcycle as the Police Motorbike, minus the fairing. It was available in two versions - in military green, with the sidecar on the left (as would be typical for driving on the left in the UK), with "Action Man Transport Command" stickers; and as a German Motorcycle and Sidecar, in Afrika Korps colours and with the correct insignia and the sidecar on the right (as would be correct for countries where they drive on the right, like Germany).
      In some respects, the Cherilea Motorcycle and sidecar as shown in Toy Polo's video is more accurate than the genuine Palitoy version, as WWII German Motorcycle and sidecar combos did typically carry a spare wheel on the back of the sidecar. Sometimes, they would also have extra ammo boxes fitted to the rear of the sidecar
      The Cherilea toys were a compatible line of vehicles that cashed in on the popularity of Action Man. They were usually more primitive blow-moulded toys, as is the case with their motorbike and sidecar. If you compare the Palitoy Motorbikes with the Cherilea one, the Palitoy version is much more detailed and accurate to a "real" motorbike, but because of that, it's a lot more fragile. Whereas the Cherila toys were the cheap and cheerful knock-offs that could be used with Action Man or the numerous 12" figures that existed to cash in in Action Man's success (and there were other companies that produced generic uniforms and accessories which were also compatible), they are often in better condition years down the line than some of the more delicate Action Man vehicles and accessories.
      The Cherilea Motorcycle and sidecar was also available in Afrika Korps colours, along with Half Tracks, Tanks, etc etc. Palitoy also had various other Afrika Korps colour vehicles, including a German Staff Car. Often, these would also be blow-moulded, as it was much cheaper than injection moulding, produced reasonable good results, and allowed Action Man to have plenty of variety in his vehicle pool.
      You can see a genuine Action Man Afrika Korps motorcycle and sidecar here:

    2 days ago called into a vintage toy store. Thought I pick one up came back with 2. A 1973 Field Commander and field radio boxed. He came with pilot jacket. Paperwork and couple booklets He's missing pistol. Reduced. À 1992 a G.I Joe. Duke US Army soldier unboxed. Came with large gun and stand. Missing backpack. Gun and holster and knife and holder. So had a great whopping save. Action man reduced from £195 to £155 and the G.i Joe priced £20 she let me have for £10. So picked up an Army soldier uniform. Now in cabinet on show including the action man box Even the woman said You caught the bug. Í definitely be calling in there again. Action man figures reduced to £125 unboxed. They've got the action man Skier I'm now thinking of purchasing. They've got the Mountie officer uniform bagged. I'm seriously thinking about ringing the shop up so they can put them aside me to pickup next month
