I knew this figure was going into the right hands. It was really fun watching you repair a toy that I had at one time on my possession. He looks amazing, enjoy!
Many thanks for this video. I have tried similar methods for many years to restore the muscle body figures but didn’t have the best of luck. Now I know i was at least on the right track. I probably just needed to be more patient as it could be very frustrating! Your approach is the best I’ve seen. Many involve cracking open the body and I’ve never been receptive to that.. After decades I finally find this video and its such a perfect solution to a long time problem. Many thanks!
I love watching him restring Action Men. It is the best part of the restoration process for me. Also, I swear it looks like one of those Tom Stone figures is taller then the other. I hope he keeps going with this one. It already looks great, and I am sure he can make it look even better.
Always such an irony that the bendy rubber hands get hard and brittle with age, severe toy arthritis heh. Same here, fingers snapped right off while cleaning them. Very nice completed restoration. ;)
Dave a Tip from a Doll maker Fabric glue, in the end, will be a better choice most superglues will eventually discolor or flake but a Good Fabric glue like Tacky or even a Washable glue from a Drapers or fabric dept of a craft store won't discolor and can handle a quick brush up if the fabric needs a light clean I did a few beading repairs with super glue and eventually had to replace the outfit due to color fading on the glue spots. and As Always Great job on Tom!!
The key to getting 4 strands of elastic through that neck piece is to have each piece slightly longer than the last... so you are only feeding one through and then adding another single strand to the previous strand, it wastes a couple of inches of elastic but it is so much easier!
Awesome job Dave. Just a tip: whenever I'm using superglue (or paint, etc) I use surgical rubber gloves. Always handy to have a box of them handy (I buy mine from Boots).
Great job. Gives my an idea what i had to do. Got 3 Tom Stone figuers to restore. (and another 8 from the bluepants era. Lets see how far i will get. My problem is that i am still searching for coloured hands. Again....great work !
Great fix, Dave. I always wanted one of these figures as a kid - but you never seemed to see them anywhere. You might find a set of dental picks/probes useful in removing that rubber. I'd be afraid of bending the tips of my tweezers. Those picks are good for any job that needs a bit of precision in a tight space.
Another great fix! Military berets typically have a short and long side. Short on the soldiers left side, with the longer side over the soldiers right ear. You could probably persuade it into shape?
Is it just me or does the Tom Stone with the original body look slightly taller than the one you had before? He turned out looking great in the end. I’m so happy you were able to get him, Dave!👊😎🔥
Hey Dave! Great to see another restoration video. Always amazed by the awesome ideas that you create in your head when it comes to restoring vintage toys such as that action figure. I've got to ask you my friend, Can you restore the hands of the Steve Austin SMDM action figure the same way that you did on this video or there's more difficulty in the process? My Steve action figure has his hands all crewed up & I purchased a new set of arms to restore it, but I just wanted to know if it could be possible to change only the hands without having to change the whole arms. Cheers my friend.
Thanks. I have not tried fixing SMDM hands as I always seem to have spare arms. I don't think they would be that easy to replace as the hands are made of a hard plastic and the fixing to the arm is not designed to be removed. Cheers
Another really enjoyable restoration, thanks. Did you come across any deterioration of the head plastic? Like the blue mould that other vintage Action Man head-sculpts suffer from? Just wondered if you know what causes the blue marks? Can anything be done to prevent them getting worse? Thanks.
Thanks. No issues with this head apart from a few areas of flock missing. The blue on other heads is most likely the plastic degrading. Unless it's pen marks.
Hi dave great video as always that Tom Stone figure looked awesome. I have a mego question tho, one of my pota figures has a broken/missing thumb, I've got a replacement hand and wanted to know if the hands can be "pulled" out at the wrist like an action man or do I have to do something else?
Thanks. On the mego figures, push the pin out that holds the hand on, put the new hand on and push the pin back in. It's a really simple process on those figures.
I like your accent that's what drives me to your videos because your accent is like awesome it makes you want to listen to everything that you're doing you know I mean it's awesome man
Brickle cheap plastic. Pallitoy Action man were built to last and take beating. In saying that I would still like to get hold of this figure hopefully boxed. I'm only just starting collecting. Thing is it's like an addiction. Once you bought 1 or 2 figures you want to go out the next day to pickup other ones
I think it is just a circle of fabric with some elastic sewn around the edge. Would be simple to do. Not sure I have the sewing skills for elastic just yet.
@@toypolloi I hear ya but I'll give it a try. What kind of fabric were those made of? It looks like felt. I'm in the States and have never seen anything but photos. I've been working on a reproduction box to finish off my custom. Used the muscle body Cotswold has been selling.
You would more than likely have to order it online, but that elastic cord can be gotten in brown colors as well. I know the clothes are going to cover the joints, but just as a mention in case there are any "stickler" repair-ists out there
I knew this figure was going into the right hands. It was really fun watching you repair a toy that I had at one time on my possession. He looks amazing, enjoy!
Thanks again for the trade. He turned out great in the end. Cheers
Action man is one of the best toys series ever. Thank you for the video!

Thanks. They can be tricky to do. But you don't need to split the body apart. Just go slowly. Cheers

Great repairs / restoration, Dave.
This vintage Tom Stone now looks amazing.
With the elastic if you take a lighter and melt the tips it will be easier and it keeps it from fraying
Hey Dave
Thanks so much.
Happy weekend
Great toy line and repair

Great toy line

Action man was my favourite toy
Same here I do animation with them

I did find putting the head in warm water was best way to remove neck piece
It does work well. You just have to be careful with the flocking that it does loosen and lift up.
Thanks Dave, enjoyed watching that. Looks like new again.
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome work mate
Great job & review
Thanks 😊
Man pls give us a collection tour one day would love to see your collection
I have a Tom Stone needing a complete reattaching. Great figure, had him as a kid.

Great video Brother. Great Respect for Vintage Toy's. Thanks for sharing Your passion and adventures 😀 👍 ♥️ 🇬🇧🇨🇦🇺🇸🌎🎉🎉👏👏👏👏🎉🎉💯💯💯💯💯
My pleasure
I'd recommend using a lighter on the frayed parts of the elastic. This will melt the end and make it neater, and easier to pole through gaps.
It depends on what the thread is made of. As this is elastic it doesn't really melt.
you cant beat a bit of action man
Is it just me or does the Tom Stone with the original body look slightly taller than the one you had before? He turned out looking great in the end. I’m so happy you were able to get him, Dave!👊😎🔥
Could be. The bodies are very different in construction and shape. The neck is much longer on the classic body. Cheers
Great repair! If you can't find 2mm black elastic maybe use a sharpie on the white. 👍
Great repair . 👍🖖

Hey mate, you should try the GI Joe muscle body rejoint kits. They take a little more work, but are eons better than the elastic method.

@@toypolloi thanks so much for the answer - I really appreciate the way you take time to answer questions in the comments section. Thank you. 🙏💫
Another great video as ever Dave. Would this repair process be the same for a blue pants dynamic body action man?
Thanks. Should be as they have the same construction if I remember correctly.

I looked but couldn't find the link to the store for Action Man replacement hands. Does anyone know if they ship to the U.S.?
Awesome 👍🏻👍🏽😀
Tom Stone was modelled on actor John Kani who played Sgt Jessie Link in The Wild Geese . This information came from him personally.
Use a brown marker on the white elastic.
Wow I really didn’t think that doubled up 3mm was gonna fit through the small arm hole on the body.
What about adding rucksack holster pistol and what about finishing touches like knife and holder and binoculars?
I wonder if you could dye the elastic black?
I napped today so I'm guessing I'll be good for tonight. Though I am tired. We'll see.
Was my video that soothing?
👍🏽
I like your accent that's what drives me to your videos because your accent is like awesome it makes you want to listen to everything that you're doing you know I mean it's awesome man
Thanks! That's very kind of you.
Might it be easier if a lighter was put to the end of the elastik

I bet a Lego traffic cone can be modified to look like the neck cone if that part is missing.
I'm looking for a way to make a reproduction of the beret. Does anyone have a pattern?
I think it is just a circle of fabric with some elastic sewn around the edge. Would be simple to do. Not sure I have the sewing skills for elastic just yet.

Tom Stone…..what if 1970’s Michael Jackson enlisted in the army instead of continuing with his singing career….🤔😂🤣
We don't have Tom Stone in the states that I know of.
He was released in the US first I believe.
I am still waiting for Cotswolds to get them body back in they take forever smh

He's a dude, playing a dude, disguised as another dude
Next time just dye the elastic to your required tone
If you don’t glue your finger to something you aren’t really doing it right. I spend a lot of time picking CA glue off my fingers.
So do I. It's part of the fun 🤣
